    Thanks for this video dude, i am having it installed today and knew there were 2 x boxes to be installed but didn't know where the 2nd would be installed, but as you have shown it is a stand alone box that can be moved with just the 1 box on the wall. It saved me moving loads more furniture out of the way! i watched the update video too, but this is the one with the most pertinent info on for installation. i couldnt find this level of detail on the community fibre website even! top man :)

    Thanks for doing the video.
    A good overview of the Community Fibre residential service and an installation to a typical house.
    I've had the Community Fibre service installed and for what it is worth, thinking through carefully how you want it installed and what is practical, will help you get a job you are pleased with. A team of two took a couple of hours with my install and it is very neat.
    I have a copper phone cable overhead. That isn't touched so I have now got two connections from the pole, the old copper phone line (Openreach) and the new Community Fibre fibre optic connection.
    There isn't an obvious process for ceasing the physical copper connection from the pole.

    I imagine it would be more expensive down the line, thats how most new businesses work, they lure you in with great offers. Im getting free installation, free for first 6 months then 25 per month. I live in a 3 level mini block and my current concerns are how the cable is just dangling from the buidling with no protection. doesnt give me much piece of mind. Im currently still in contract with BT and im thinking of cancelling while im in my cooling off period with comm fibre, because the outages are frustrating. im pretty sure although bt might cost more, they wont have cables dangling off the building. it will be more secure once they get around to it.

    • @Westerdd
      @Westerdd  2 года назад

      I can't really speak for them so not sure. Are you sure it is a fibre cable? I would imagine that they would prefer to run a new cable, but if you already have a hole they would probably use that instead of more drilling.

    Thanks for the review. Was the black box just a router? If so, how many ethernet ports does it have? At the moment I don't need wifi, just wired ethernet to a pc, so I just need ethernet to the pc now and maybe ethernet to wifi at some point in the future, if I ever get a tablet or smartphone, so two ports.

    • @Westerdd
      @Westerdd  2 месяца назад +1

      Hi. The black box is more like a cable modem. It has 1x Ethernet port that you can use to your PC. CF will give you a Linksys router as well . You could use an Ethernet port from there also to your PC. Either way will work. When you need WiFi in the future , you will have it via the Linksys. Hope that helps.

    • @Westerdd
      @Westerdd  2 года назад +1

      Hi, I think it took him about 1 hour, maybe slightly more. He was really only able to drop the cable just inside the front exterior wall so I was able to choose where inside the front wall he could make the insertion. Because of the nature of fibre optic cable (basically it is a glass conductor) , it is more difficult to route through the house under floorboards and such like unless you have good access to those areas.

    Thanks for sharing. As others said, your video is very useful and informative.
    I have a few questions if you don't mind me asking.
    You mentioned not having good reception in some rooms. Do you think reception would improve if you were able to move the wifi router in the middle of the house?
    Similarly, how’s reception in the other floors of the house? I am currently renting a 3 story house, so I wonder if moving/placing the wifi router in the middle of the house in the first floor, would cover the whole house. At present I am able to do so with the wifi router provided by Vodafone, my current service provider.
    Thanks
    A

    • @Westerdd
      @Westerdd  Год назад

      Hi Alex, If the wifi box was in the middle of the house then I think it would cover the whole house. (assuming it is a normal sized house) This wifi box seems better than the old Virgin one I had previously.
      I think your suggestion would work placing the router in the middle floor. You should get CF to bring the fibre into the middle floor. The only problem might be that you may need to then run a network cable from the grey box that the fibre is connected to (that you see in my video) to the Linksys wifi box in the middle room of the middle floor. Remember CF only can really drop the fibre cable inside the front wall of the house and so that is where the grey box would be located. Did what I wrote make sense?

    • @alexmulas6766
      @alexmulas6766 Год назад

      @Westerdd Thank you for answering my questions. Your explanation was very clear.
      I will contact CF to see if they can answer/confirm if the installation can be carried out as I wish ... e.g. pass the fiber cable in the house on the 1st floor; and If CF has to/can only install the wall plug near the front wall of the house, provide a fiber cable (from wall plug to modem/grey box) long enough to move the modem and wifi router to the middle of the house. Channelling a CAT5 cable under the floor will be more challenging than passing a fiber cable ... I think.
      I have subscribed to your channel - is there a 6 and 12 months CF review coming :)
      A

    • @Westerdd
      @Westerdd  Год назад

      @@alexmulas6766 They might be able to provide the fibre cable but you'd probably have to run it yourself. Maybe it would just be easier to buy a linksys mesh extender?
      Also before messing around running cables under floors it would be good to test that having the linksys box in the middle of the house would give coverage to the whole house, so you could test by running a long cat 5 cable (or fibre from wall point) through to the middle room via the doors.
      Not sure if I will do another video. Not much to update, but maybe I could just to report in that it has been problem free since 1st video

    • @alexmulas6766
      @alexmulas6766 Год назад

      @@Westerdd Yes I'd run the fiber cable under the floor. As you suggested, probably a good idea to do a dry-run before I start lifting carpet ect. Hopefully, it will not be a problem for CF to provide a 10 meters fiber cable.
      I am a bit unclear how the modem and the wifi repeater connect and work together. Am I correct in assuming the modem connects to the wifi router with cat 5 cable but the additional wifi routers connect/talk to each other wirelessly? and there is no need to connect each other via cat 5?
      Yes adding one or more wifi router makes sense, the only thing I'd want to avoid is getting one or more pieces of equipment that in the future will be in a box ... sadly got lots.
      CF currently has an offer for wifi in every room for an additional £10/month but I need to understand/ask if the additional £10 is for each wireless router or for as many wireless routers are required to cover the whole house.
      Thanks
      A

    • @Westerdd
      @Westerdd  Год назад

      @@alexmulas6766 Hi Alex. What you wrote in the 2nd paragraph is exactly what it is and how it connects together. I didn't go for using an extender so can't comment how good it is, but its an option to consider. You can rent an additional Linksys box from CF which might be worth doing to try it out before purchasing as long as you don't have to rent it for the full term of the contract.
