Craig’s storyline is probably the messiest and chaotic storyline there. Abusive father, suicidal, father dies. Live with his step-dad and half sister, has bi-polar disorder. I really think they could've done more with Jimmy. For the most part, Jimmy was just an all-around nice guy, and when you pair that with Drake's acting ability, you strike gold. It makes a lot of sense as to why he was your favorite. Although I did not mind Spinner's redemption arc, I found it annoying that the show spent more time developing Spinner instead of focusing on Jimmy and how he deals with the aftereffects of the shooting. It speaks to a large issue with the show as a whole and how the writers treated their Black characters. While Jimmy was more fortunate than other Black characters who were completely neglected or just poorly written, he still was sidelined at a time when he should have been placed at the forefront.
It was probably more of that they saw audiences were relating more to Spinner than to Jimmy. And towards the end I think they knew Drake was more focused on life after Degrassi than on the show. But you’re definitely right about the character development of their minority characters. Manny definitely had some of the most development on the show, but most people didn’t know she was filipino because other then her parents, you would of never known her ethnicity. Alli and Sav were probably the only other Minorities that got significant development.

I've noticed more and more how much the writers just give up on the characters once they get to college. As much as I liked seeing the 2006 and 2007 classes in their university years, it was more out of attachment to their characters and not because their stories naturally progressed past the high school years. And I think that's the same problem the writers had. The writers grew attached, they liked working with the actors, and the audience was attached too, so they figured keeping them even though they're not in high school anymore, would be a plus. There are some gems in the university storylines (some are genuinely great, others are iconic for not so positive reasons) but ultimately, in a show where high school is the central premise, following the characters into college is useless and boring and does nothing for their arcs, which should have been completed when they graduated. I hope the reboot doesn't make this same mistake.
Arguably the best post high school arc was for Jay, who didn't go to college. He didn't even finish high school but become a good guy and something of a renaissance man.

I always hated how Craig stole Ashley’s song and nobody cared even Ashley. It’s like the writers wrote a situation where she has the right to be mad and then they were like ‘Nah let’s make Ashley the villain again’
The best Hazel episode was when she was not even in the cast yet. They have international day at the school and she pretends to be Jamaican because she cares too much about what people think and doesn't want to admit she's actually Somalian.
This class was really enjoyable and had great plot lines. I think most can agree Paige, Spinner, Ellie, Marco, Craig, Jimmy, and Ash had pretty decent stories while they were main characters. Paige, Jimmy, and Craig were probably my favs. Craig is probably the most distinguished and lovable despite his vices. Spinner paid for his sins s7-s9 cause argue wit ya momma, he was not a real friend to Jimmy. Hazel…was done wrong and we all know. They ain’t give my girl 3 solid episodes. Marco was so sweet and I loved him s3-s4 specifically. Ellie was cool (outside of her obsession with Craig) but got boring in the college years. Ashley actually wasn’t that bad unless it came to her music😭. I didn’t really care for her returning just to get with Jimmy then break up get weird about her music again lol. Jay was a bad influence and I guess developed to tolerable. Alex was cool but making her homophobic initially just to become a lesbian who wants Paige to accept her sexuality was odd. Terri deserved better than insecurities about her size and her abusive relationship. Overall they were a great first class of TNG but I wish Hazel was followed into college, Craig didn’t do drugs, Marco/Ellie/Paige didn’t seem so “adult like” in their college years, and Jimmy had development (outside of basketball) after getting shot
Alex clearly had some internalized homophobia going on which is all too common in reality tbh. I think that’s why she and Marco ultimately end up becoming friends. There were some degrading shorts and a few deleted scenes that kind of showed her struggle with that a little better.
yes!! always happy to see more degrassi content on here. spinner is one of my favorite characters in anything ever and they really put him through it, but it was so cool seeing him change when he realized what he did was wrong. not just apologizing, but actually behaving different. also, i like how they kept his punk-ish look through everything. idk i just think he's neat.
@@THTGUY just discovered you because of this video ( YEAH DEGRASSI ) I see your a recently started RUclips since last year, what is it that I would need to be a RUclipsr ? Do I have to go to school for that ?
For me, there's definitely a nostalgic value to this original class as well as the next one from the original series. They were great actors and characters but I feel like there are a couple classes that were better. I loved watching this class grow so much throughout the first 6 or 7 seasons. Nobody got as many episodes as they did and it shows for the most part. but my personal favorite is the next class bunch that came in during season 12 through 14 were my favorites. Except for season 4, which is generally acknowledged as the best season of the whole series and rightfully so. 6 is great too
so many life lessons learned from degrassi. I wish they would have explored more with college years/had a spin off where it follows the characters from previous seasons into their adult years and what challenges they face as adults

Last time she saw ellie nash she found out her dad was back and wanted to see her but he had ptsd and ellie was scared to see him so she left to go to holly wood to avoid seeing her dad.Her mom accused her of not caring then see craig and him string her along and turning he down again might be the thing that pushed her over the edge of wanting to kill herself.
Amazing video! Really glad there’s people out here giving degrassi more recognition on RUclips; though, I think the storyline where hazel accepts she’s Muslim was overlooked. Other than that thanks for making this, it’s a pretty good recap for all the characters on the show for when im feeling nostalgic lol
Looking back specifically on this video i definitely missed a few storylines with this class including marco not being able to give blood bc the blood drive people were kinda homophobic. I honestly never thought the vids would blow up so much 😂 so now i try to get most of the important storylines. But thank you 🙏🏾 I agree there aren’t enough degrassi vids out there

It’s been more than a decade, and im still so salty about Terri and Hazel. The two characters I liked the most and they just vanish off the face of Degrassi, Canada.
I've never noticed how Paige pronounces the word sorry until this video 🤣 I love these videos and I love that I don't have to rewatch the series for a third time
Not that all of them do, but that's one way I spot Canadians from a mile away lol. For the most part, other than a few words and phrases... most people in the show don't really have an accent to me, or talk differently from where I live. And that's probably because I'm in MN lol
2:54-2:59, Abuse is not love, it's hate. Rick was evil, a monster and a coward for abusing Terri and he didn't deserve her or any other girl and I don't think he knew what real love was and he never really loved Terri, she was just someone to manipulate and control. He had no respect for Terri and he didn't value her feelings or thoughts at all and the episode where he put her in a coma explains why we shouldn't stay in an abusive relationship because if your spouse and/or partner hurt you once, they will hurt you again and again and again. That's who they are. Every abusive relationship has warning signs that we shouldn't ignore. They say they're sorry but they're never sorry. They're only sorry until the next time and then they're sorry again. Your spouse and/or partner who abuses you will just never change and if they are hurting you physically or emotionally, they don't love you or care about you at all. They may say that they love you and that they're doing these things to you because they love you but they're lying to you and from 2:59 to 3:06, what I have to say about Terri's dad admonishing Terri's friends who knew that Rick wasn't treating her right and not speaking up is that what happened to Terri is what can happen to a friend of yours who is in that situation if you know about it and you don't speak up and it is true that a victim of abuse may beg you not to tell or threaten your friendship if you tell. However, they are saying that because they are worried about making the situation worse and don't know how to get out of it. They need help! If you recognize their need for help, help them.
@@scottmcneely1927 What I meant was that her friends didn't speak up to Terri's dad about Rick and that what happened to Terri is what can happen to your friend who's in that situation if you're aware of it and you don't tell an adult about it.
I use to watch it and watched it a little after the New York Movie when Spinner got married to Emma. The classes of 06 and 07 were the original TNG group of students but after that that's when the show changed from the Next Generation change to just Degrassi at the beginning of season 10 even though Seasons 8 and 9 wer the start of the new students and the end of the old group of students even though they were in college those years mostly in season 9 its focus more on the new students I know Emma and Manny wer only in the Degrassi Manhattan final
What always bothered me is the gang shunned Spinner and to a lesser extent Jay (although they were never friends with him in the first place) for the prank on Rick. Yet Alex gets a pass, when she was the one who literally pulled the rope and dropped the paint and feathers on Rick.
The reason why the Abortion episode was a deleted episode was when it aired in the USA it was considered taboo and yet it wasn’t because many movies and tv shows had abortion in them back when this episode aired it made no sense why they did that and it took years to air in the USA because of that and it’s ridiculous like we didn’t already have Taboo issues in movies and TV shows 🤦♀️🙄
Too much censorship of Bible Belt issues in 'Murica. Southern states would have caused riots if these Conservative anti-abortion Christians who run the laws there allowed this episode to air. Think about how backwards so many states were when it came to laws for abortion, especially when it's a storyline written from a teen show, which was aired with no issue in Canada but forbidden in the States. It's pathetic
Yo I’m pretty sure the young girl that played Craig’s little sister Angela, is actually sisters in real life with the gal who played Mannie (Alex & Cassandra Steele)
I knew you were an unserious person when you said besides jimmy and Sean, CRAIG was probably the most affected by the shooting. When Emma, the girl who had a gun pointed in her face and literally went crazy, was right there

Hi. Ran across your channel, watching this episode and Hi! I recently found your channel. I’m old enough to remember when spike & snake were main characters back in the day, but I started watching this when only season 1 existed & there was a marathon on the cable channel “the-n” & once I saw spike, snake, Caitlin & Joey I was sucked into the show until after Jimmy got shot & I kinda stop watching after that. Speaking of Aubrey graham, I love the song/video for “I’m upset” because of the Degrassi theme. I legit yelled “do we have to?” when you got to the Rick segment. Which I have currently paused to write this comment.
But we do hear of Terri again. When Paige, spinner, and Ashley go visit her when they skip school in Dylan's car. And Ashley freaks out when they come to change Terris bandage.
Man Eli and Mannie were my childhood crushes for real. Also don’t remember how well they explain this since it’s been forever but I believe Eli too. Maybe explains the swings in emotion.
I personally think sean was more effected just because of how he left the show and him not having a good family structure around him but craig and emma were both heavily effected. I only feel like craig was more so bc he saw jimmy one of his best friends dead and it triggered him alot. But emma had the gun pulled on her so I feel you.
Craig only saw Jimmy, why does he care so much? Sean was the one who actually got Rick killed by intervening, I understand why that haunts him. If he didn't do it, then Emma would have been shot dead if she didn't run.
Okay, I really don't understand how Gavin "Spinner" Mason was not respecting Johnny in season 7? If anything, Spinner was helping Toby out and saved him from being bully by Lakehurst and I read somewhere that Johnny finally met his match.
I used to watch Degrassi back in the days when a German music program used to air it. Last year I started to watch it again and I really miss these shows. Now, teeny shows are way too dark. 😅
I know I’m late to this one, but I’m not worried about HBO Max; every inception of Degrassi has been over seen by Linda and she has come to include Stephen. They have a stack of requirements, including having kids play kids so they bring the kid life experience and perspective, the storylines have to be educational and realistic, and more. For they Shyullers to license to HBO, they had to agree to all of that *and* keep Linda or Linda-approved people on the set.
Is there a reason why Linda ALWAYS makes the drug episodes seem worse than what they actually are? Like weed is the devil's lettuce and will always make you confess to being high to your teacher or college interview, ecstasy turns you into an asshole who cheats and proud of it and cocaine causes you to talk at a million miles per hour non-stop and excessive nose bleeds on stage after using it a couple times? Literally exaggerated the effects of these substances to the point it was unrealistic.
The irony that Jimmy always had beef with Sean, and Sean was the one who killed Rick after he shot Jimmy. We also never saw Sean and Jimmy interact after the shooting. They could have done a lot with that.
OMG!! During the Spinner segment, I saw the the scene from which Spinner gets shot and immediately said “OMG, Patrick from Schitt’s Creek shots Spinner!”
These characters all deserved a proper send off but sadly got dismissed without a trace never to be heard of again, or in a very absurd randomly grand way. 🤷🏼♀️

The cut aways are almost on par with family guy. You kept my attention lol nice vids. PS I have no friggin clue how I stumbled on Degrassi shit lol
yes!! always happy to see more degrassi content on here. spinner is one of my favorite characters in anything ever and they really put him through it, but it was so cool seeing him change when he realized what he did was wrong. not just apologizing, but actually behaving different. also, i like how they kept his punk-ish look through everything. idk i just think he's neat.
Great summary and editing brother. Hilarious!!! “Coincident I think not.”🤣
I love this so much, pls do more 💫
Thank you 🙏🏾 I definitely will very soon
6 is great too
If you’re old and Canadian, the news about HBO Degrassi is exciting since some iteration of this show has been on since the 80s ;)
so many life lessons learned from degrassi. I wish they would have explored more with college years/had a spin off where it follows the characters from previous seasons into their adult years and what challenges they face as adults
I just found your channel literally minutes ago I'm going to check out all your Degrassi videos! I just restarted my full rewatch of the series and it's been so many years since I've done that I'm currently in the Middle of season 10! You've got my Subscription (:
Also your commentary is really good it's great to see another guy giving his insight on the show I feel I can connect more
this was great! so well put together
Bro these are so well put together and so funny 😂😂😂
I just finished the class of 2007 video, but the way how you are going super in depth is amazing
hi! thank you so much for making these videos. please keep it up. I'm literally in love with your channel lol
Jimmy and Spinner are technically Class of 2007 along with Manny, Emma, Liberty, and Toby. Both of them were held back a year for different reasons.
But thank you 🙏🏾 I agree there aren’t enough degrassi vids out there
@@THTGUY I totally get that! Esp bc there was so many things going on w so many characters at so many different times- literally forgot so much stuff happened like with marco haha, so totally understand 👍
Damn, this shit unlocked some deep memories. Don’t know how I got here or why I watched the whole thing, but good work bro
It’s been more than a decade, and im still so salty about Terri and Hazel. The two characters I liked the most and they just vanish off the face of Degrassi, Canada.
Our man Craig is about to be a super powered blob on Umbrella Academy 🤙🤙🤙🤙
YESSS can’t wait to see him
THAT WAS HIM.... I thought he looked familiar
Ellie also played a Supervillain on Superman and Lois.
@@ECKohns no shit I need to catch up on that show
“Oh my god this is so fun to watch” me the entire time they aren’t at degrassi. that college shift had so much waisted potential
…Then we find out, Jay be at that ravine…sh!t goes down there, literally….” 😂😂😂😂 I DIED!! 😂😂😂
Class of '06 was my high school graduation year as well. These Degrassi characters will always be pretty nostalgic
i’m so glad i found your channel omg we need more degrassi video essays
Idk why I just realized that Ashley broke up with Craig over email and then got upset when he didn’t shout her out on his album 😂
I've never noticed how Paige pronounces the word sorry until this video 🤣
I love these videos and I love that I don't have to rewatch the series for a third time
it's a Canadian thing
Not that all of them do, but that's one way I spot Canadians from a mile away lol.
For the most part, other than a few words and phrases... most people in the show don't really have an accent to me, or talk differently from where I live. And that's probably because I'm in MN lol
the rowdyruff boys...i am DONE! LMAO love your vids man!
Amy was also friends with Jay and Alex, and she got bracelets in the ravine, possibly Patient Zero for gonorrhea!
literally so good!!
QUALITY, content my guy 👌🏻 bout to binge it all. The editing & commentary have me absolutely deceased 💀
First Degrassi vid of yours I’m seeing and it’s GOLD. I can’t wait to watch the others. I eat it up LOL
Her friends did speak up about Rick, she just didn't listen.
@@scottmcneely1927 What I meant was that her friends didn't speak up to Terri's dad about Rick and that what happened to Terri is what can happen to your friend who's in that situation if you're aware of it and you don't tell an adult about it.
My dude…Rick is a fictional character…
I feel like the video glossed over this a bit but exactly.
@@gretchengeorge5302 so? lmao people like him exist
I use to watch it and watched it a little after the New York Movie when Spinner got married to Emma. Then during 2020 I saw it was on the Roku channel so I watched as I could every day after work and once I finished all the ones that aired on tv I watched The Next Class on Netflix and I loved it and I'm 37
me who has watched the entire series around 11 times watching all your videos super intently lmao
this video was amazing. i normally dont have a ton of patience for long youtube videos but i sat through the whole thing start to finish and didnt look away. also side note , watching the video i felt like we may have been mutuals on degrassi twitter once upon a time or i was following you. great video! definitely gonna watch all of these, we both have similar thoughts on characters in class of 2006. this video was so funny too, loved it!
Ashley may be annoying but she is the most realistic teen character on the show. We all went to school with multiple Ashley’s
I remember more Paige's and Holly J's from high school.
Emma and Spinner getting married was not on my list of theories
loooove your videos!! just found ur channel, keep it up!!!
Sean yelling “man what’s wrong with you” to Craig’s back as he runs away has to be one of the most accidentally hilarious moments on television
I love love love your reviews. Very rare that you miss something
I'm enjoying watching these videos of degrassi storylines from all the different seasons and of different cast and eras of the show
Me: watches full video
Also me: has seen the show more than 5 times all the way through
I love watching these kinds of videos because I know what happened in the show but I have other people reinforcing my STRONG opinions.
@@codesm96,
I know it’s ridiculous
Ashley gets way too much hate
I honestly think it’s because shes an early character and kinda hypocritical but she’s not even top 10 worst characters in Degrassi overall
It's true.
I love this show
i respect this channel, finna need more videos!
these videos are excellent. I subscribed
ive never met ANYONE who likes Ashley
Hi my name is Iyahna, nice to meet you.
My sisters fav character is Ashley
I love Ashley, she is the one I fantasize about
"Sean takes one for the team and kills Rick" I have no idea why that made me laugh so hard lol
Yo I’m pretty sure the young girl that played Craig’s little sister Angela, is actually sisters in real life with the gal who played Mannie (Alex & Cassandra Steele)
correct
I knew you were an unserious person when you said besides jimmy and Sean, CRAIG was probably the most affected by the shooting. When Emma, the girl who had a gun pointed in her face and literally went crazy, was right there
I loved this cast, it was my favorite
Jimmy was definitely the best degrassi character of all time he seriously had nothing wrong with him he was the most like able one
I’m in the middle of the video and idk if you say it in the video but if you have Tubi or can get Tubi all season of degrassi are on there. Love this video omg
Jimmy is really the best character who has a great story arc
very excited for the next vid!
I’m rewatching these videos and I’m bummed that the reboot was scraped
And Spinner also bullied Marco for coming out
But we do hear of Terri again. When Paige, spinner, and Ashley go visit her when they skip school in Dylan's car. And Ashley freaks out when they come to change Terris bandage.
You are definitely correct! I wrote this script really fast because i had no idea it would blow up 😂
Man Eli and Mannie were my childhood crushes for real. Also don’t remember how well they explain this since it’s been forever but I believe Eli too. Maybe explains the swings in emotion.
‘Kind of Famous’ Director Kevin Smith is a understatement. Dogma is phenomenal.
whahahhaah that outro is everything 🤌🏽 a perfect ending to a great video
I look forward for more degrassi content videos too I just keep watching these videos it's awesome 👌👏😎
Lmao, Paige was the original Euphoria Maddy and Im loving it. I need to rewatch this shit sooooo bad.
I just found this channel and I love the Degrassi content I may have to give the series a 8th viewing
I mean, I would argue Emma was as affected by the school shooting as Sean and Craig
If he didn't do it, then Emma would have been shot dead if she didn't run.
this class and the one after were peak degrassi. i love that there are still fans of the show out there with me! :~)
I don’t understand how I was 7 watching this show … but still did a lot of dumb shit as a teenager 😭
Super funny and entertaining 👍🏽✨
I hate there’s no reboot now. 😢
@@jaxstalgic nooooooooooooo
They could have done a lot with that.
hotdog dude making fun of a literal model from his hotdog stand was straight wildin
First 8 seasons I was locked in
OMG!! During the Spinner segment, I saw the the scene from which Spinner gets shot and immediately said “OMG, Patrick from Schitt’s Creek shots Spinner!”
Haha I had the exact same reaction!! Literally every Canadian actor ever has been on Degrassi at some point.
These characters all deserved a proper send off but sadly got dismissed without a trace never to be heard of again, or in a very absurd randomly grand way. 🤷🏼♀️
