Holly J went through an arc similar to Paige where she had to get a job and she couldn't do a lot of spending. Zoe was a former teen actress who after a breakup gets attacked at a party, same as Paige when she was attacked at a party. I like all of the mean girls cause they grow and develop over time
I unfortunately had a similar start to college like Paige. I think that’s why I favor her character. I tried to be this perfect person and got way to in over my head. It was humbling to watch and then experience first hand a few years later, because at first I thought she was just being dramatic lol
I don't think grace was every bad though. she was a BAD ASS, but i feel she was a good person. idk why she was in the rubber room but i assume it was because of hacking. she never reminded me of alex or bianca in any way but maybe her outward appearance may have caused our internal bias to make assumptions. this was pretty much a fight between paige and holly j (sorry zoe) but honestly these 2 are some of my top fav degrassi characters, paige more so for the nostalgia factor and the iconic status with her killer one liners to read people to filth. but holly j is my favorite because her storyline was the most naturally progressed, the writers did so good with making her go from one of the most hated to loved characters and it makes me wonder how other characters ended up not being written that way. plus like you said each of her plots were intriguing, every time holly j was on my screen i was immersed

But it was pretty clear that Holly J was there to replace Paige. Zoe was one of the worst characters, but on the plus side, the actress handled the assault storyline very well.

I like that all three characters walked different paths through their time in the show and wasn’t the same “mean girl”. Holly J was an entitled snobby sassy mean girl who gradually got humbled down and changed. She still has that sass but definitely was not a mean girl when she left Degrassi. Zoe’s is a mean girl who didn’t go through a complete change she just became more neutral with time. Her character can be annoying at times but you obviously get why Zoe acts the she does. She is entitled and thinks she’s better than most but she’s really just an insecure mean girl. Her sexual assault and sexual orientation awakening I feel changed Zoe by making her emotional and conscious and compassionate. The fact that in the end she has friends but she also isn’t friends with Maya. She and Maya and are just cordial somewhat shows some grow. It’s Paige who I guess would be the ultimate mean girl cause at the end of her character in Degrassi goes Hollywood movie. She doesn’t exactly have anyone. She kicked out Alex before that. Her and Ellie were friends for the sake of Marco really. And her friendship with Marco was on a very thin line. Paige did mellow out here and there throughout the show but she will always be Paige. Paige lets herself get in her own way from actually making wise decisions.
Zoey always felt like the standard insecure mean girl to me. Paige was the original queen bee trope that developed some then regressed as a character by slapping Marco who was only trying to give her a reality check on how childish she was still acting years later after graduating from high school. Holly J Sinclair is what I like to call "reformed evil" mainly because her character development was so damn good and compelling from bullying Anya, Ali, and everyone to humbling herself and getting a job after her family lost all of their money, to battling a serious illness. She was definitely the worst bully alpha bitch trope character in the show, but she transformed her life despite facing adversity over and over making her a solid three dimensional character, this is why I think she is the better character among the three.

The way Zoe treated Maya, the way she treated Frankie, Becky, etc. Also, Zoe gets Ashley-points for being the only character besides Ashley that I can remember maliciously announcing someone’s pregnancy to the entire school (she did it to Clare and Drew in order to hurt Becky, while Ashley did it to Manny and Craig). Let’s just remember how Zoe acted towards Becky in season 14. Becky, who literally destroyed her own family life in order to bring her brother (Luke) to justice for what he did to Zoe. Becky searched endlessly to try to figure out who did it. And when it turned out to be her brother; she didn’t take his side. Becky’s threat to possibly out him is the reason Luke admitted it to Zoe. Becky giving Zoe the video evidence is the only reason charges were pressed against Luke and his accomplice. And Becky’s testimony at the trial is the only reason that there was a “guilty” verdict.
Also, Zoe picked beefs almost entirely with characters who were more likable. Early Holly J tormented everyone, so it wasn’t all that personal or selective Besides Manny, Paige did not really have major long running drama with fan favorites (Ashley sucked; Rick was a violent abuser, and she showed ultimate remorse for how far things went against him; everyone hated the unseen Heather Sinclair; Alex was a bully when they had beef, etc.) she had brief drama with Darcy, but that did not last long.

Unpopular opinion, Holly J should've stayed a savage in reality her being exposed wouldn't have worked instead she would've gotten defenders and followers like Regina George when they tried to sabotage her. Paige would've gaslight Hazel, Holly J staright up told Anya I treat you like a doormat because you're weak that's savage asf. 😂

Okay but in Zoë's defense with the lack of chemistry with the boys she was with, she's gay so (with Rasha, think they just did not have enough screen time), think her rivalry with Maya was more of a secret crush. Also with getting back at Grace, Grace did lead her on. For me Holly J is the best, although Zoë is one of my favorites, mainly because of her SA storyline and coming out storyline. She does become a better person in next class.
I just want to point out that you spoke about zoe and paige's sa storylines but holly j has one too. it's just not portrayed as such. in declan's last episode, holly j doesn’t want to have s3x with him. but he doesn’t care and doesn’t listen to her and coerces her. this is r*pe. even though the show doesn't completely portray it this way. holly j didn't want to have s3x and clearly was upset afterwards. she never said yes. so they were all sa'd.
also with this all these storylines are so so incredibly important and i unfortunately relate. but i don't like that all the hbic archetype characters are sa'd. bc it just kinda feels a little malicious on the writer's part. but then again they're not the only characters to get sa'd on the show so maybe i'm overthinking it idk.
Paige might barely edge out Holly J in terms of character, but Charlotte Arnold is objectively the most gorgeous person ever on Degrassi and it's not even close
It’s always tough comparing Degrassi characters from different generations tho because the audiences are different. Like on any post comparing them you’ll see a lot of comments favoring the earlier characters with the reasoning being “I didn’t watch the later seasons” or “I don’t know who those other people are”
I think Tori & Zoe wouldn’t have liked each other and would’ve had a rivalry. They would’ve had a frenemy relationship later on . I also think Maya, Tori & Zoe would’ve ended up being a trio

Okay but in Zoë's defense with the lack of chemistry with the boys she was with, she's gay so (with Rasha, think they just did not have enough screen time), think her rivalry with Maya was more of a secret crush.
Also with getting back at Grace, Grace did lead her on.
For me Holly J is the best, although Zoë is one of my favorites, mainly because of her SA storyline and coming out storyline. She does become a better person in next class.

I just want to point out that you spoke about zoe and paige's sa storylines but holly j has one too. it's just not portrayed as such. in declan's last episode, holly j doesn’t want to have s3x with him. but he doesn’t care and doesn’t listen to her and coerces her. this is r*pe. even though the show doesn't completely portray it this way. holly j didn't want to have s3x and clearly was upset afterwards. she never said yes. so they were all sa'd.
also with this all these storylines are so so incredibly important and i unfortunately relate. but i don't like that all the hbic archetype characters are sa'd. bc it just kinda feels a little malicious on the writer's part. but then again they're not the only characters to get sa'd on the show so maybe i'm overthinking it idk.

It’s always tough comparing Degrassi characters from different generations tho because the audiences are different. Like on any post comparing them you’ll see a lot of comments favoring the earlier characters with the reasoning being “I didn’t watch the later seasons” or “I don’t know who those other people are”
