I have a theory, if a TV show or movie is filmed in Toronto then there is 75% chance that a Degrassi actor is featured in it. Proof you may ask? Ginny and Georgia, My Babysitter's a Vampire, Supernatural, Grand Army, F the Prom. Need I say more?

@@jessika_katrine Baaz (He was a character in Degrassi: Next Class) played Sid; Ms. Dawes, who was the quirky drama and art teacher, played Leila's adoptive mother, and Chris Sharpe (Emma's boyfriend in S3)'s actor made a small appearance as Joey's dance instructor. I think there might've been someone else, but those are all the actors I can think of off the top of my head.

I was an extra in She’s Too Young 😂 Some of it was shot at my high school. I haven’t seen it, but I vaguely remember being in a scene where we had to line up to get tested and one of the actors says, “get in line, sl*t!”

It’s literally one of my favorite movies of all time tbh. I actually watched it before I had ever seen degrassi so I always new Emma as the girl from she’s too young.
My school showed it during sex ed(why I don’t know??) It became a school meme. We kept quoting “guys, I have syphillis” lol
So in my sophomore year at my all-girls Catholic high school in 2010, we watched She's Too Young in health class, and my friends and I were like, "Is that... Emma Nelson??!!" In any case, She's Too Young became iconic for my entire sophomore class because of how insane and unintentionally hilarious it was. So happy it wasn't just a fever dream!!

Omg super similar story! Our football couch was our sophomore sex ed teacher so we basically just learned sex ed through Lifetime movies and THIS WAS THE BEST ONE!! Plus Grace from Secret Life of America Teenager was in this (I think) so we were obsessed!

As an unironic Miles fan, I find Eric Osborne so fascinsting as a human and as an actor - like, he really gives his all, no matter how wild the scenes are. And I have to give him credit for that lol.
Marcia Gay Harden is an absolute iconic Karen character actor and we need to put some respect on her name.
I love her. She's a truly amazing actor, even when the writing is terrible. And you're right, the Karen character belongs to her.

I love the continuation of mia kirshner lore bc not ONLY was she in the vampire diaries and the movie listed here but she played the infamous universally hated jenny schecter from the L word for 5 seasons and that is what I recognize her from. legendary
I only know her from The L Word. I never watched the Vampire Diaries or that movie which looks so boring.
I grew up in the Toronto area, graduated high school in 2013. Everyone in Toronto has some kind of Degrassi-adjacent story. On a day in class when nothing was happening, I was watching a Degrassi episode on my laptop. The guy behind me pointed out one of the extras. The extra was a girl in my grade, in my class, sitting literally 2 rows behind me.
And I went to summer camp with the girl who "Kiss and Cry" were based on, as well as her sisters. They were all really sweet. Sarah Fisher also happened to be close friends with the girl, she had a big part in the production of the movie.
How many extras on the show did you go to school with? I bet it was a surreal thing to experience

My favorite is Emma's two line cameo in Orphan Black. I remember she was in the preview for the episode, and they kinda made it seem like she was gonna be a guest star, but she had an utterly forgettable two line cameo that anyone could have played.

Something that might be fun would be to do a "Where are they now?" segment for child actors of the past that are still in the business. Clearly, I started this thought from a Degrassi standpoint (and I find it really funny Cassie Steele is on Rick and Morty), but you could do others from Lifetime movies. Or Lacey Chabert (Gretchen from Mean Girls) being in a bunch of these Lifetime movies. Admittedly, I don't know how large this pool will be, but it's a start.
I find it hilarious how all lifetime movies come up with the names of their titles by just basic plot of the movie in two or three words 💀

Me and a HS/college acquaintance(who I pretty much exclusively communicated with through snapchat) for some reason bonded over “She’s Too Young” and would randomly send each other quotes and clips from it over the years. One time, they just messaged me simply saying “hey I got syphillis lmao” I still wheeze anytime I think about it. (Also they are syphillis free thank u medicine)

EDIT: The best part of a lifetime movie is how they end. They have the climax, they kill whoever is doing the "bad thing", and then they move on like nothing ever happened. No trauma, no anxiety, nothing. Just back to normal.
True, except for "Devil's Diary" and "Possessing Piper Rose", the 2 Lifetime horror movies I've seen.

I agree so much. Maybe it's just because I have BPD, but I really wanted to see more of Esme. I kind of assumed/hoped they were going to diagnose her with it.

in the “friends who kill” movie the third girl at the picnic table was Alli’s friend at the all girls school in Degrassi
I remember seeing "She's to young". I had just started watching Degrassi next generation 3 years prior, so I was excited to see these characters in other movies after the fact. Considering that I was a teen at the time, I actually loved the movie. I haven't seen it since that one time on TV in 2004.

I know jake Epstein has always been a working actor since leaving degrassi but I think things are really gonna blow up more for him thanks to his involvement in season 3 of Umbrella Academy

also- i think it’s worth mentioning that Ricardo Hoyos(AKA Zig Novak) has recently become a recurring character on the CW’s Riverdale as a mafia hitman
It makes me giddy with excitement to see a deserving creator make their breakthrough, and be a (small) part of it. Another great video - I think you're at your best when you cover this obscure stuff, because there's no established narrative so you get to cover it from which ever angle you like. Even Degrassi, which is far from obscure, isn't covered much outside its own fandom circles.
I used to LOVE Devil’s Diary!!!! The main character is even played by Alexz Johnson who sang the Degrassi theme song in later seasons.
Also worth noting that Alexz Johnson is actually a super talented singer and led her own show called Instant Star where she played a teen pop-rock star. It had the same showrunners/producers/writers as Degrassi so I definitely recommend checking it out as well LOL.
I've noticed that three Degrassi actors are on Ginny and Georgia (there's characters Sav=Joe, Frankie= Maxine, and Nora= Esme
the most interesting part of film and tv is actors who got enough success from a project to potentially bring in viewers but not enough to be in genuinely good/well funded projects.
my guilty pleasure is looking up actors from successful tv shows and seeing who got mainstream success from it and who got screwed over. it’s a depressing habit when you realise how many people are in the “screwed over” jar
your channel has literally been a godsend. i’ve been watching degrassi since i was little, and up till now, have had literally NO outlet to be able to share my opinions with others since i’ve been unsuccessful at managing to convince my friends to watch a 20 season tv show for me!!!! i’m someone who needs to hear my opinions on media regurgitated back to me and with youtube SEVERELY lacking degrassi content i haven’t been able to find that!!!! i’ll definitely be watching the rest of your videos since you’re extremely eloquent and funny as well!!!! thank you!!!!

honestly i'm so glad that my recent binge back into degrassi led me to your channel. you've become one of my faves. funnily, while i was watching degrassi i made a note of how many actors in degrassi appeared specifically in schitt's creek like.. dan levy, tim rozon, stacey farber, jennifer robertson etc. that could be a fun video idea because i kept catching myself like.. wow they look a young version of "insert schitt's creek character"

Your video actually inspired me to watch Degrassi! I’m on a brake cause once the younger group of the og’s went to college, it got a bit boring, so I need the will power to make it through the lull
One time my parents were watching one of those low budget teen films on Netflix and I swear to god, one of the main characters was none other than the actor for Campbell Saunders and I turned into Tiffany pollard that day. (Someone pls help bc idk what the actors name was, also I don’t even know the name of the movie)
Also I really love your content. Might I suggest a video on “Dance Academy”? It’s kinda short to sit through and it was airing alongside Degrassi s11-13 ish on Teen Nick at the time. Would love to see someone talk about that show for once bc it gets just as crazy dramatic as Degrassi.
lol I think that actor is Dylan Everett! yeah so many Degrassi actors show up in those movies. I did start Dance Academy once, I'm currently trying to get through a couple different teen shows but maybe I'll return to it!

theres also a movie called “dog pound” (2010) which stars shane kippel as a main character and its actually a really high quality film, it follows shane kippel’s character and 2 other incarcerated teens and is a commentary on the violent nature of juvenile detention. fair warning it is extremely graphic and dark, the only way i was able to make it through was with multiple breaks and the knowledge that i’d be able to watch more shane kippel because im a hoe for spinner lmao. if youre interested in seeing shane kippel in a non-comedic role (he was also in life of ralph for a few episodes) i’d recommend but again massive warning it is very very graphic.

Devil's Diary also had Deanna Casaluce (Alex) and starred Alexz Johnson who sang the theme for season 11, not just Miriam McDonald. I haven't watched it in like ten years, but I def recommend it.

Degrassi former child actors feel like the center of the Canadian Cinematic Universe. I was big into canadian tv in middle school and I was always connecting the Life with Dereck actors to Degrassi to 18 to Life and My Babysitter's a Vampire, it's just so funny how a show becomes obviously canadian bc of the one degrassi actor in it
the actors who play craig and paige randomly showed up in charlie bartlett and had a combined total of like 10 lines but them coming on screen together blew my mind

i loved when i first started watching degrassi in high school and i recognized all these actors from family channel (basically canadian disney channel) shows like life with derek, wingin it, the latest buzz, overruled, how to be indie, etc. i know you dont want to become a degrassi channel but if you ever wanted to watch some of these shows for a video id be here for it

I fervently watch Mayday: Air Disasters, which believe it or not, is about airplane crashes; and imagine how pleased I was to spot both Caitlyn Ryan AND Anya in the same episode. Also, Manny's father is piloting planes that are destined to crash *suspiciously often* .
tbh i'll watch anything you make but would love more deep-dives into weird low-budget movies shot in italy with american actors that you find on tubi, that one video you did made me laugh very hard. also more bollywood videos!
This is so side note but I know Mia Kirshner from The L Word and she’s actually an amazing actress. And tbh the “line fumbling” is a thing she does a lot in that show too. But she has some range like seriously and I’ll say The Vampire Diaries didn’t do her justice lol.
I have been unintentionally watching movies starring Degrassi stars. I just put on She's Too Young and let it play. I watched Dog Pound starring Spinner (Shane Kippel), Boot Camp starring Mr. Oleander from Degrassi, and Do Not Reply with Lola. There are so many of them! I hope you can include these in your part 3.

yikes, I just realized how much "She's Too Young" "The Truth About Jane" and "Defending Our Kids: The Julie Posey Story" informed a lot of my teenage anxieties. definitely watched "She's Too Young" for Miriam at the time....and "Julie Posey" for Annie Potts....and "Jane" for Stockard Channing. damn you lifetime! although all three of these movies touched on real-life issues i was facing as a teen in the early 2000s.
“Julie Posey” is so good, though! I watched it a few weeks ago and it did give my the creeps. Scary stuff!

The choking game movie hit home hard for me cuz that's how my friend died in HS and his mother was such an advocate for talking about it and I'm pretty sure it was bcuz of the work she did to get the word out there about this game is why the movie was even made in the first place.
Okay, I've never watched Degrassi before, but the last video was so well made, I binged the rest of your videos. And surprisingly much of the media you covered are my random niche interests. Like where else could I find a deep dive into the madness that is tiger shroff films alongside that one Taylor Lautner movie I watched in sixth grade. regardless, rooting for this channel cause I haven't been this hyped about commentary in a good bit!!

The choking game, that head injury is accurate... I remember when I was a kid, they played that, and a girl fell and hit her head on the edge of the window sill... she was bleeding... and no one rushed to help her, I was the only one acting like something happened... but she woke up and no brain damage, but yeah I could see how the fall would be the thing that would damage you.
