I’ve been trying to download this for a week with no proper instructions, and I just download it in two minutes with your help. Thank you very much.
if you just got your Baofeng this is a MUST to watch. Simply done!
I select my F8-HP and it fails to load it. Any ideas?
@@yourface3154Your plug pushed aaaaalllll the way in?
@@Omnonymous Aaaalll the way into my butt. Yeah, it's plugged in.
The UV-5R is VHF-UHF so you can put both in it. You can put in something like 25 miles and it should give you the repeaters within 25 miles. The radio should go more than 25 milse, maybe 50 miles if there isn't much in the way.
Thanks Darryl , im brand new to this stuff so that was a big help, Greatly Appreciated
Thanks alot! You just cost me $50 because I saw this video and and now I had to order one from Aliexpress. Now I have to wait weeks to enjoy. Thanks alot :-)
Excellent video, following the video and my radios work perfectly. Thats a bunch
Thanks man! Studying for my exam and just ordered my first Baofeng :)
You won't be disappointed! UV5R is a gateway drug! 🤣 Good luck on your exam!
Thank you for this video, greatly appreciate it!
Hey Darryl. Just found your channel. Thanks for sharing this. Just ordered the uv-5r yesterday and looking to get my license soon.
Hey cool! Yea, taking a course will definitely open your eyes to lots of possibilities of the hobby that's for sure!
Thanks for the comment!
Where did you order from? Couldn’t find it on Amazon.ca
@@PrepperDad I ordered it from baofengradio.ca/
Hi Darryl. I'm in Burnaby. Can you hit the North Van repeaters (VE7RPT and VECTOR) from where you are (your general location)?
Hi! Thanks for your videos. They are great! Could you please, next video, go across the Chirp screen and explain to us all those other options on each channel? Thanks
Thanks for info. Considering CHIRP
Great Video.
Can you pls advise how can we receive full airband RX on Baofeng UV5R Radio using Chirp programming
Hey thanks for the video, I have a question I hope you might can help. I have the uv5r, i am using chirp. The name of the channel is showing up and changes with channel change but the frequency don't change when scrolling the channels . I hope this makes sence.
Also I saved channel on top and frequencies on bottom on chirp settings.
Great video man!
Great video,, quick question, we are always high up on mountains fly fishing off rivers in Kootney BC, can I make an emergency call if I spot a fire, I understand you need licence to transmit but how would I transmit an emergency call if needed?
Thanks for the video. Can you program BC RR channels into this?
Great vid matey
I'll try it later on
Rookie question. Is it possible to program a baofeng to work on the same frequency off a for example kenwood Nx-1300 digital radio?
Does the software works with a MacBook Air M2 ? Usbc. I also bought the uv-16 max v2 …
Super helpful video!
I am having trouble getting passed the cloning process. So I bought two baofeng uv5r radios with the usb cord I have an older laptop a hp windows 7 so i had to download the chirp legacy as chirp next is not supported on my outdated computer i guess it let me download chirp ok but when i put in all my radio info and go to clone it just gives me error code im not sure if its just an outdated system now that they have the new chirp software out or if its the radio. thank you for any advice given im a newb.
Chirp was a slightly different but I figured it out. Thank you
do you know where to get "General Mobile Radio Service" list channels for UV5R through CHIRP
So I just got to the part of query my city and noticed the radio had turned off. Now it won’t power on or anything, like it had completely died and idk why or what happened. I didn’t do anything except query my city? Any idea what happened?
I have a little problem - whenever I try to download from radio, the cloning screen does not come up and I do not get the flashing light on the radio. It might be something wrong with my laptop because I tried doing it with both of my radios but it still did not work.
Is there a software for a Motorola XPR 7550e radio? and if you know how to program just like how you did with the Baofeng UV-5R
Just getting into off-roading on the Island. Would you say this is a "must" set up when going out in the bush or will a decent 2 way walkie be alright?
Depends how far you want to communicate! If you are just chatting with your fellow wheelers, 2 ways should be just fine. I would get your ham license and a baofeng if you want to increase the distance, or have something like a 40w mobile vhf to have contact to local repeaters etc.
Sir how about for Ranger R1-U radio with NO DATA appears on screen? Can you help me what to do on this please? Thank you.
so my chirp doesn't look like the one in this video or other videos' im trying to learn off of. mine is missing features
Can you please add the website to the description section, where you found the software needed, before programming on chirp. Thank you
Hi Darryl, I was actually looling at programing by Baofeng and notice no channels seem to be working but 1 weather channel.
I was wondering if you could help by giving some working frequencies in Canada. I try to set mine with this order:
1. Simplex Freqs
2. Weather Freqs
3. Repeaters
You will definitely want to figure out frequencys to monitor that are in your area. Try looking up Repeater Book or Radio Reference for a good place to start.
Hmm it doesn’t let me upload it after I’ve selected for my radio.
So at 7:03 for me repeater book itself doesn’t have the drop-down box.
is there an alternate for chirp for mac users?
@Darryl Downey Hello man thanks for the video, Ive heard there are fake cables being sold on amazon I keep getting the message radio did not respond and once i got an access denied error can you provide me some info if you know anything about this I live on the other side of the country in Ontario. I paid like 15 CDn on amazon for the cable but when i heard there were fakes i rechecked amazons stock of cables and saw that they ranged from 15 to 50 dollars but the one i bought had 6000 reviews like 4.5 or more stars so im not to sure whats wrong here
I have no tell tale signs, I know some aftermarket cables do work aswell. But I would recommend trying maybe a different computer if you've only got the one cable to try. Or do you know anyone with a known good cable you can try with your computer?
wont let me upload to radio as its greay shaded out so i can click it ??
Hey Darryl good video thank you for the help but I have a problem I am hoping you can help with if you can. The problem I have is I just got a acer chromebook 315 and can't seam to find the chirp software and was wondering if there's anything I can do ?
Hey Ken, Thanks for the comment! I'm really not sure about the chrome OS. I really don't have any experience with programming from it. Sorry I can't be of any help! But let me know if you get if figured out, maybe we can help some more people!
@@garrettj3972 thanks garret for the info but I should express i am still learning tech so to speek and not that savy with it yet lol. They say a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing and thats the boat im in. And also never used Linux system before is gonna create one hell of a learning curve for me
You've got this Ken!
I have tried to do this many times, says baofeng will no longer connect on Com port 2.
I think those programming beofeng cables can be used on any brand.
Do we need Ham license if we just want to use Baofeng UV-5R (or other Baofeng variant) much like off the shelf two way FRS radios between our family at the provincial park 2-3KM range.
The short answer yes.
Basically any radio that you can manually select a frequency will require a licence. As opposed to a frs/gmrs radio that has pre-programmed channels that are all locked and non-editable.
Also in Canada UV-5R's are not really legal for licenced hams either, they have not been specifically tested and approved for Canada.. 🤔 But I also have a pile of them, so.....
If you are curious how shitty the electronics are in a baofeng, there are lots of videos on YT showing the harmonics that are produced on unintended frequencies, spilling signals into emergency service frequencies, airband etc, all while you may only think you are transmitting in gmrs/frs frequency.
Cannot access the radio error. This is really complicated any help?
Hey i have a UV-5R5 does not matter cause i just cant seem to get it to connect
Thanks alot mate, very helpful & easy :)
I am running windows 10 and it will NOT open and run like yours. What's the fix?>?
Why did you try to change that first frequency?
What's the link to download?
Does it work for every model?
Is it compatible with windows 10?
These 5R still good or have they moved on?
I am trying to use Chirp and my chirp download is windows.I don’t know why my chirp is different than yours and everyone else.
windows comm port speed?????
Hello sir can you help me out baofeng screen lock
Thank you
how can I program the 16 PMR channels on this radio with Chirp?
That’s disallowed.
Please do a video for Baofeng UV-6.
I can get all the way to where I select radio, then upload. Except I can't click on upload
Very helpful for noobs like me, thanks and subbed :)
This is the definition of lets get right into it!

Thanks bro
Help with my codes my town codes 42.606 up to 46.500 how to program help...thanks
I get to the part where you upload to radio except on my computer this option is greyed out in chirp and will not let me click it.
Hello! We're you able to successfully download from the radio?
@@darryldowney Yeah I was following your video step by step and was able to do everything prior. But when I try to upload the 1 repeater I found in my area this option is greyed out in Chirp and won't let me click it.
Hmmm. I'm really pretty new to this as well. It's hard to say what the problem might be. I might suggest checking your usb cable. Also maybe try saving your new profile that you've created, then re download whatever is currently on the radio, then open the profile you save and see if it will program now?
@@darryldowney Figured it out, you have to make sure the tab you are working on in Chirp says Beofeng and not Generic. If you somehow accidently create another tab and click off the Beofeng one, that option will grey out.
@@Gyva02 Great you have if figured out! Yea, different brand of radios have a different profiles for different available settings. Great Job!
Thanks for the video. 73.
I haven trouble programming mine
How do you program gmrs?
Lol
I keep get ting 'Error communicating with radio'.' I have tried several times.
Do you need any other software or is it just the Chirp download? When I try to do it it says error
You shouldnt have to. But it also depends on the cable you are using. Here is some more info on error messages and cables. www.miklor.com/COM/UV_GettingStarted.php
does chirp cost money?
No PORT shows on my screen
you need the software driver
@@exittech1282 what driver
@@exittech1282 Where do we get it?
@@Jeff-xy7fv my own came with a cd to install
Word of note. I tried the CHIRP software and it did not connect with my UV-5R, so chances are it may not interface with the radio(s) you have. I had to purchase a programming cd by ABBREE that had the program that would interface with mine. It performs much like the CHIRP software.
On mac??????
Thanks and that was helpful. I wish I could find a "fix" video for the issue that doesn't allow connection between the PC and radio - it's a well known issue and am still looking for a solution.
Most of those problems are with the USB cable you are using. Some of the cheap ones don’t work. Make sure you are on the correct com port on the computer. Test it with a friends cable. To get a good cable go to Amazon, they will recommend the best cable.
The link dont worm anymore
is it easier to do it on a PC or manually on the radio
Upload to radio is grayed out
So I used your steps and everything worked perfectly but i still can't hear anything nor can I scan through frequency mode? I feel like I'm missing a simple step...along the way.
Where can I get the license here in Canada (toronto) ? Website ? Is it hard to get
have you done a video on the uv-3r?
Hey Bobby! I haven't done a video on the uv-3r but if it's on the list of radios chirp supports, then programming should be identical.
Wont work on my UV82
I did everything you showed. I get an error message. An error has occurred Radio did not respond. So i uninstalled CHRIP and reinstalled it , and started the procedure again. Again, an error message : An error has occurred Radio did not respond. I cannot get through the cloning process that where the error occurs. That's on the Windows 10. So I go to my iMacOS Big Sur version 11.3.1 and download CHRIP, and it downloads on the computer. Now a totally different error message or warning pop up. CHRIP cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified. Mac OS cannot verify that this app is free from malware. That message is not foreign, I have seen it a lot. If the app is not from Apple, this is the normal message they will not let it work.
I would suggest starting with trying a different USB port (and make sure it matches in chirp) on the PC, and if that doesnt work try a different usb cable. I've heard of an unreasonably high failure rate for the usb cables. Even "oem" cables.
@@darryldowney This cable is the BTECH PC03 FTDI Cable Dual Pin. Should work, the Window 10 Pro recognizes, but doesn't work, there is a "quick start user guide" incert in the plastic bag with the cable. It's a misnomer, it's not a quick start. I'm getting somewhere on it, going to the www.ftdichip.com website and find and download drivers. It should be easier that than this. It's not plug and play, and I'm not a computer programmer.
@@1naturaldoc You are absolutely right, it should be easier. I'm sorry I can't be of more help, I didnt experience the same issuse. Im also on windows 10.
@@1naturaldoc Try a different COM
i can not even get chirp to down load onto my phone
the only thing i have connected to the web.
Sorry @larryjanson4011
I don't have any experience trying to use chirp on a mobile device.
it says:frequency mode
I keep getting an error.. I have reinstalled the CHIRP software.. Still ERROR when I click radio/download from radio.. then the error pops up. "could not open port 2 system could not find the file specified"... I saved to wherever it recommended, didn't change anything.. I tried both ports on my laptop.. nothing but error
Does your computer recognize something USB has been plugged in? I would suspect the programming cable itself if you cannot get it to read from the radio. I've heard lots of reports of differing qualities in cables causing issues. Do you have access to another cable to rule out that possibility?
@@darryldowney ya, windows recognizes the cable. It's the baofeng cable that came with it. I got 2 radios, I'll try the one from the second one tomorrow. Thanks for the response!
Funny we all have fm and never for licenses lol 😂😆😉
Getting error
Well done! Gets right too the point with minimum irrelevant blah blah talk
mine came in english
This is now obsolete as Chirp doesn't work that way anymore.
I hope everyone realizes the Baofeng UV-5R is not approved by the FCC. License or not it is illegal to transmit.
Nobody cares
@@ZaxCal😂😂😂 😎👍
Another useless UV-5R programming video that fails to deal with the COM channel issue. I've lost count of how many times, I've had issues getting the right COM.
Thanks for your positivity! I haven't had any of these issues, that's why I haven't addressed it. However, I am aware that a lot of cables including branded "baofeng" cables have issues. I would suggest trying a known good cable. And by "known good", I don't mean a new cable, I mean a cable that someone else has no issues with.
