Dick was my favorite. Loved going to Bristol to the fan club meetings. The year he finished 3rd in the cup race the party was on. Thank you Kenny for always quoting him. "To finish first you must first finish."
Dick Trickle was the best short track driver I've ever seen. I used to follow the ARTGO series back in the day & Dick was a threat to win at every track. Mark Martin was the best I've seen at hustling a car around the track in qualifying but when it came to the race, Trickle was top dog. And he was great with the fans. Spent many late nights after the race in the pits with Dick, drinking a few beers. He treated every fan as if he'd known ya for years. To me, he was a great guy.
Dick Trickle and Rich Bickle. Wisconsin racing legends. I saw Dickjust about lap the field at Rockford Speedway in the Short Track Nationals. The year the fireworks lit the American flag on fire. Wheewwww what a night. Mark Martin, Jim Sauter, Bob Senneker and a few other great drivers of yore. Difficult to beat Trickle on a short track- P.S. At the end of my mom's life she was addicted to pain pills and "the patch" because of all the arthritis she had. Dick was as brave and as tough as they come. Thanks Kenny!
I got to meet my hero, Dick Trickle, back in the late 90's. It was at the Gods Country Auto Show in LaCrosse Wisconsin. We were standing in line before his meet and greet. Suddenly I heard a hushed tone from the crowd. I look up to see my hero, larger than life, (about an inch shorter than me) walk right past me, holding a cup of coffee, walking with his signature limp. I met my hero that day and I'll never forget it. Kenny, if you have any Dick Trickle stories that you would be willing to share I will appropriate it. Most people say he was a great story teller. He would hold court anywhere he went with people who just loved him and just wanted to listen to him.
High power pain pills are no joke people. 7 years ago I burned my lower leg real bad, 95% 2nd and 3rd degree. It hurt something fierce. After a week, I was at my Dr. in horrible pain and the Dr. gave in and prescribed so Oxycontin. As soon as he said he would do it for two weeks, he turned and looked at my wife and said, "when he's done, we are going to have to work together to get him off these." He also told her without my hearing, to keep a close eye on me for the side effects. I took them for two days so I could get some sleep and let my body start healing. Never took any more. Those comments scared me, made me stay as aware as I could at the time. Thank God for my wife. She never stopped caring for me, and still does. RIP Dick, you earned it
I read " the life and times of Dick Trickle" years ago. I certainly don't want to argue, but I will comment from first hand knowledge that chronic pain also causes suicidal thoughts...without any pills involved. Also, most meds used for depression, anxiety, adhd, pain, sleep...are labeled with suicidal tendencies...it's a very common side effect because if anyone reports a suicide while taking that prescription, they have to add it to the list. But pain, chronic pain, can mess with your mind something awful.
I will never forget when I was a kid my first tailgate party was at Daga and a bus rolled by with a huge sign on the side that said “ nascar racing makes my Dick Trickle “ 😂 I will never forget it.

Yep
Some of the best racing I saw was at state park speedway. Lots of asa racers there. Your brother, mark martin, the Allison’s,Alan kulwaukie. Wow lots of good local talent too.this was how good he was. I raced go carts at state park and golden sands. One night trickle comes in no car on the hauler. I ask him where the car was he said I wrecked it last night he said I’m using so and sos car. I said that car has never made the feature he said ya,it’s all I have. His tire guy was a huge man dick took the car out came in the tire guy changed a fey things. He went out again came in pointed to each corner the tire guy jacked wedge in. Went out put it in the dash. I was stunned. I don’t remember for sure but I think he won with that car. Unbelievable but I watched it happen.
Herm great video😎
Kenny my mom had surgery and she was in a lot of pain they ended up going back into that area and found out that the doctor left a sponge and a small instrument in her body😳
Thanks Kenny you are so right about pain pills. And Dick Trickle. I live in pain pills. If it wasn't for my Wife and Grandsons I wouldn't be here. Living in pain 24 7 sucks.
try marjiuana
Herman, the pills may have been the final blow but if the pain was bad enough to start taking the pills, blame the pain.
only two names ill call someone that seems to have taken a short time to reach their destination, "what in the Dick Trickle!" or "hot damn Parnelli"
Never knew about the pain pills. I thought he was just broken hearted about what happened to Chris. Im sure that just made those side effects 10x even worse.
Used to be prescribed pain meds for pain management but turned to weed as my medicine instead
Sad story but thanks for sharing
You looked a lot more like Rusty in that photo.
I'm not getting notifications Kenny of your lives or videos 😔
You’re right Kenny. Also, anti depressants can lead to suicide and worse even, mass shooters! Meds are a huge problem in the world
I Named My 86 Monte Carlo SS After Dick!!!
a cautionary tale
