"With the 5 day week and the 8 Hour day" Oh Walt, if you could see your company now
He’s responsible for all it, don’t fool yourself
Good old Uncle Walt was practically a slave driver from the early days of Disney animation. I´m sure those animators would have loved to have just an 8-hour, 5-day work week.
The animators that actually worked on this likely had no employee benefits, long hours, and were practically slaves, no?
@@ericfelds6291Don't forget Henry Ford. For the first production line and workers' scheduling.
I love that he pulls out the wind sock and just blows into it. Such a classic Goofy move lol
Would you look at that, it's windy out!
"LET'S TAKE THE KEY TO THE FUTURE, OPEN THE DOOR OF THE PRESENT, STEP ACROSS THE THRESHOLD OF TIME, AND JOURNEY BACK THROUGH THE DIM, DARK CORRIDORS..."
Mickey: Did someone mention the Door to Darkness?
Donald: Maybe it's on Goofy's keychain
Goofy: Ahem, let's see here. We've got a car key, piano key, skeleton key, keyboard, key to the city, key hole, key lime pie, key to my heart.. aw, gawrsh.
Florida keys, high-key, low-key, on-key, off-key, trick-key, okey dokey, Don Key-hote... oh, now that's a stretch. Get rid of that one.
Smokey, hokey, pokey, mar-key, Chero-key, malarkey, Frank-key, crank-key, spank-key, hanky pan-key, monkey, donkey, para-key-t, and... hayuck, get ready,
Mickey!
Mickey: That accomplished.. absolutely nothing!

I find it funny how this video frames the eight hour work week an improvement over the simple days of farming. It’s this new system that has people stressed.
As yes, "Two Weeks Vacation", where among other things Goofy had to content with some roadhog with a trailer.
Once the camera cut over to Goofy he dived under his desk and started devouring entire packs of cigarettes.
hello? brain? this is foot
Wow, there was a brief period where people had FREE TIME?
Employees: Walt, what's our new project?
Walt: A cartoon about "How to relax?"
Employees: "Relax"? What's that?
Walt: I don't really know either.
Had this on VHS when I was a kid.
2:03 The original definition of gay meant "happy and bright"; a completely different meaning of its definition today.
Was? The cave man? So relaxed? Wasn't he like. Hunting mamoths and shit?
And, I'm pretty sure the science on early man is more complex, never mind the history
This feels like one of those ARG VHS tapes.
was thinking the exact same thing lmao i was expecting an analog horror jumpscare to come out at any second
Thank you for sharing this video.

This WAS DISNEY, when they use to make great cartoons like this one before they became way to greedy, they are not the Disney that I grew up watching in the 80's and 90's.
Why did they go back to “cave man age” if the end of Leisyre began in the Egyptian age?

2:12: Not funny at all!!😨😡🤦♂️
That man was a fraud. He never relaxed after he caused a strike and had many artists damaged or worse. His company was always a scam and better to use its own materials against it for hurting many lives. Found better relaxation techniques from spiritual and caring folk.
2:18 Sharp dirty joke. 😄

Watching this made me realise how easy those damn baby boomers had it. God I hate that generation.
Why? They had no control which generation they were born into.
4:54 Goofy has human feet... 🤢
Lol, I mean, he has human hands
Just gonna say, Disney of all companies telling folks how to relax... Kinda uh.... kinda funny. Considering Walt's labor mentality.
I don't think I understand. Did Walt Disney oppose vacations and days off?
@@PaladinDusty He was incredibly anti-union
@@viktoriatheskinnynerd2674 What does that have to do with relaxing?
@@PaladinDusty he couldn't "relax" if he heard his overworked employees wanted to start a union
Their employees are indentured servants.
This is the reason why I like the Mickey cast as an actual cartoon character, not just as a company icon.
the VCR glitches and crusty audio add so much
“ then he made a grave mistake he discovered his thumb”😂😂😂
lolll

I wish Disney still made specials like these, I loved them even as a kid =)
If I'm not mistaken, homeboy popped up before Snow White on the vhs copy I had, pretty sure it had a thing about EPCOT and it had like lasers and dinosaurs n shit. Easier times.
he can't 'still make them' he's no longer with us, though I'm sure Lucasfilm could use their ILM technology to bring him back in some form - Peter Cushing style
He's talking about the Disney company.
I always loved the footstep sounds, when Goofy went to the past.
The tracking on this is so hilariously bad that I thought this would be some Gen Z trashy creepypasta
2:04 Goofy travels back to the "GAY NINETIES" Take me with you, Goof 😭
Thank you so much for uploading this, even if it's not the whole special
Shame a better copy couldn't be used, but it's probably hard to find ones that were preserved good.
Really enjoyed seeing these again after so many years. Thank you for posting them. Walt Disney had the best animator cartoonists.
**hint** to avoid rolling video, try adjusting the "TRACKING" control. The picture quality was very good otherwise.
It's 2022 and great chunk of this short STILL applies to us as a society, if not more than ever
Do not let this propaganda for you, in the modern day we have less leisure time than any other time in human history, our time has been taken from us by capitalism, you have no free time compared to the people of the past only 200 years ago
I suspect we actually have less leisure time now than people did in the '50s. That was a time when the Post-War prosperity meant prosperity and leisure for everyone, while now is the era of "rise and grind."
the funny part is at 1964 shortly after this was made the gold standard stopped and then after that compensation for labor had a huge divide where it all fell apart.

This entire piece was incredible anti-union propaganda. Look how much time off you get thanks to industrial giants!
But even cavemen were stressed, it’s quite literally built into our system
But nah. Relaxing is good. Also, it’s nice to learn in a relaxed fashion

#1 I believe you'll find in The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad
@@tahutoa It wasn't just the Sleepy Hollow segment from the "Ichabod & Mr. Toad" film by itself, it was proceeded by a 15 minute short about the book's author Washington Irving
Minor nitpick: the "Disneyland" (1954-1957) and "Walt Disney Presents" (1957-1961) episodes weren't "colorized", they were *filmed* in color. They were shown in Black and white as color TVs were a novelty at the time, however some of the episodes appear to exist only in black and white as they were shown even though they weren't filmed that way.
2:03 I'm sorry, WHAT IS THAT SIGN...!? 💀
If you're not simply joking, "gay" popularly meant "happy," and the 1890s were/are referred to as the "Gay Nineties."
@@bleepiestofbloops Oh... thanks!
@@bleepiestofbloops I wonder if the 1890's was a happy time for many people, like how the people of today think of the 1980's as the happy times.

This is where everyone's favorite Goof came from.
I love those George Geef cartoons as it turned Goofy into the most human, recognizable guy-on-the-street. Sadly, the topics those toons were addressing as still very much relevant today as they were back then 70-odd years later.
Yeah, George Geef still is the most recognizable, realistic Disney character ever.
The old Disney Channel!!!
("I'm Vincent Price..." 😊)
~
I appreciate Goofy more as an adult than I ever could have as a child. He's sort of a hapless Everyman character, like the early Homer Simpson; I wouldn't have recognized the archetype back then.
My favorite Goofy cartoon is the one about golfing ("PLAY THE BALL WHERE IT LIES!").
“Cavemen had nothing but leisure.”
Um… the several gihugic predators that routinely stalked prehistoric humans would like to have a word with you.
Not bothered now, but I remember HATING these when I was a kid. pretended to be a new show, but was all just a compilation of cartoons I'd already seen =p Ofttimes with little interstitial bits of animation linking them together, but, 95% rerun.
I'm still a kid and I'm still annoyed when seeing stuff like this happen
@@klas-6 There was a period when Loony Toons were really, SUPER guilty of this. They'd call it a 'TV Movie' and they were just a few related toons strung together.
@@Babbleplay I got tricked by them so many times tho XD, it wasn't until I saw a Foghorn short (the one with the hen that wanted a man) and was like...wait a minute she didn't wish for that in a well! (The TV movie was the Daffy and Speedy Gonzalez one where they were on an island)

No talk of unions? The thing that actually gave us the 8-hour 5-day week? Ok then…,
Oooh, bad idea to mention “The U Word”, around Disney. 😉
The discovery of the thumb was man's biggest mistake.
I remember these 5 cartoons of Goofy's. But still I don't want this Disney character to give up on Mousercise because I just him to try his best. Actually that clip is from Goofy's Glider. And the other one is from Hawaiian Holiday and that's on Disney plus.
Was this the start of the "George Goofy era" ?
Because Goofy or George, never wore the traditional Goofy outfit.
Seems more like later in that era.
@@mdalsted Possible I say.
Never had seen this one before, and I thought I had seen them all.
God I could listen to Walt talk all day
You do realize that it’s not Disney narrating this? Says as much in the title
ya dude it says right there in the title that it's not him talking
Crazy to think about how long ago this came out and how much the world has changed since then, like we still have more leisure time than the fifties but stress is at an all time high. Crazy to think about
I actually think we have less leisure time, since we're always connected 24/7 and not in the typical hurr durr social media bad way. There's pretty much no excuse to not answer your phone anymore.
@@mr.nazareth4501 we are assaulted every single day by all kinds of pollutants and stressors, from radiation to xenoestrogens/hormonal disruptors and blue light and EV and metals in food/water and more. Plus most of us are disconnected from nature and heritage in ways that help explain why so many especially young Westerners are messed up on every level. Lord have mercy!
I really miss the old Disney Channel.
Cavemen probably didn't relax as life was constantly dangerous
The goofy war cry 2:21
The sudden change between George Geef and Goofy gives me whiplash.
Goofy could injure himself just by answering the phone.
I wish this is full special
Let’s face it. Cartoons like this were the best compared to what’s on tv now and days.
I recently watched something about dangers in the 1950s home, and one thing it actually touched on was the era's general encouragement to homeowners- inc. by popular magazine- that they undertake household renovations and repairs themselves. People were electrocuting themselves, falling off ladders, etc., but the attitude of the age seemed to be that every man ought to know how to do every thing, independent of help from electricians and the like; this attitude did (and does) result in real fatalities. While each of my "Greatest Generation" grandpas did manage to build something amazing, these material things would have also been nothing worth dying over.
Mickey may be the logo but Goofy is the real star carrying the show😂
Did you get it on a VHS that you bought at a garage sale?
How much I would like to buy and collect VHS'S, DVD'S & BlueRays ^_^
1:49 So this is what Chain of Memories looked like in it's production stages。
the 50's were deffinetly the golden age for disney and they're best decade.

It's important to relax because if those who don't they will overreact too much, become too suspicious, refuse to clam down, maybe can't control their temper, become more complain, and suffer in their lives with misery and pain.☮
Whenever you need week off or a vacation. Just ask your boss about it and hopefully they'll give you a chance, if they understand how stressful you are. 💡
What make you stress out? Noise, overwork, someone who you can't stand off, or something you hate? Just ignore( walk away or run ), move to another area, leave somethings be, and maybe take beep breaths.
8 hour day 5 days a week in USA?! Lol
In the Postwar era the nation's prosperity meant prosperity and relaxation for everyone (at least all white men), now it's the era of rise and grind for our corporate overlords.

Relaxation is so forgotten that most of the "leisure" activities computed here are just the unpaid work for yourself and your children. Nobody puts the kids to bed or washes their car for fun.
For those of you saying, "what free time?", take a look at your "time watched" on youtube to see how many hours you've spent on RUclips this week. *That* free time.
Oh hang on... Stone Age people didn't have leisures, and I'm talking BEFORE he "discovered his thumb".
What about food and shelter? You still needed to find somewhere to sleep where small predators couldn't get to you, AND you needed food, and a couple of random berries DEFINETLY wouldn't give you the nutrition you need.
Actually, they're right, hunter gatherer societies actually have tons of free time compared to farming ones. They typically only need to do 15 hours of work per week.
