Most of us grew up with the english version of Pokemon with all of the english names for everything; but what if I told you some english names are COMPLETELY different in Japanese? For example, Ash's Pikachu's most notable move 'Thunderbolt' actually translates to '100,000 Volts' or even the attacking move 'Leech Seed' translates to 'SUCK BLOOD'... And that's just two of the fifty I go over! Also a big thank you to Carden_F, Dougbro1, and Laprasrules12 for helping me with this video!

I actually have two of those bottles just sitting on top of my vanity/dresser next to an empty box of Mochi (the box has a really pretty Sakura tree branch on it and a really cute picture of some Mochi buns on a tray and I just thought it was really adorable so I, being the Japanese culture fanatic I am, decided to keep it and put it up on display. Same with the bottles).
I just randomly found some Ramune sofa (the name of the drink) in the Japanese candy section of a store and so I got one of each flavor since I had never seen any before in all my 20 years of living (although I was actually younger back then...) despite the fact that I almost always go to the foreign foods/sweets/imports sections at stores when I see them. It tastes really good honestly...a bit weirder than I'm used to but it literally tastes like a mix between soda and candy (because that's literally what it is...)

Umbreon is literally Blacky lol. Another humorous one is Mandibuzz. It’s Vulgina which is from vulture and Regina or queen but sounds a lot dirtier. And I like Braviary’s which is Wargle from war eagle.
    Forewarn ability is Prophetic Dream
Selfdestruct is actually “large boom” or something but the kanji is the same as suicide bomb, hence the meme.
Aerial Ace is Swallow Return. It refers to cutting both ways with a sword, like a swallow tail.
Double slap is actually Round Trip Slap. It hits 2x for each hit, even though it sounds like it should just hit twice.
Fire Blast translates to the tradition of lighting the Star shape on a mountain side…that’s why it has the animation it does.
Take Down is Life Risking Tackle.

The reason for "Mistletoe Seed" drains HP is because Mistletoe is a parasitic plant. It grows on other plants by draining the nutrients from the host. You can see it growing sometimes by looking up into trees and looking for clusters of leaves that aren't those of the tree.

1:47 Due to the fact that Thunderbolt is called 100.000 Volts Giovanni actually thinks in his battle against Red in Pokémon Adventures that his Pikachu's strongest Move is undoubtedly 100.000 Volts. (But we can cut the Translation Team some slack here. The Manga Team is not above just making up Moves, so...)
3:42 Funfact about Return and why it's called that way: The Woman that gives you TM27 Return in FireRed LeafGreen on the Guard House on Route 12 actually talks about how well-treated Pokémon will return the favor to you with this move.
I am now convinced that there is a pun at play in the original Japanese.
4:08 The german localizers had the same thought. Because Glaciate is literally called "Eiszeit". Also, any Pokémon (with Nature Power in its movepool) can try its hand (or paw, etc.) at starting an Ice Age in ORAS' Shoal Cave Depths. I was pretty baffled when I randomly came across it whilst hunting for Shiny Snorunt.

The move Assist aka "Cat paw" actually has nothing to do with copycats.
This move came from the Japanese slang "You even want to borrow a cat's paw" meaning you are so screwed up that you will take any help you get. and literally, any, like even a cat wants to help you you will take it. This is why this move's effect is to randomly pull an ally's move in battle because you will take anyone's help, so whoever comes out you just take it.
In other words, they are not copying moves. They literally just get the effect of the move from whoever is willing to help them at this point.

Quick question. Can these weird translation explain pokemon moves that don't make sense?
Such as Wooper can use ice punch, or Charmander can use wing attack?

When you know a lot of these terms cuz you watch Pokemon subbed
Also, thought Crossroad Kill was 'Brutal Swing' in Japanese cuz Ash's Galarian Farfetch'd used it a lot. I didn't even know G. Farfetch'd could learn Night Slash... it can, through breeding.
Ash's Pokemon get the best moves non-legit cuz anime protagonist, right?

I refuse to believe that ash used logic and maths to name the z-move since he is canonically the person who named it
And he's too dumb for maths
He was probably like "100,000 volt, but stronger, hmm 10M sounds cool and is higher, okay 10M volt thunderbolt it is"

About Poké Balls, let me talk about the Spanish adaptations (at least European Spanish, 'cause for we, the Latinos, the only current existing adaptations are anime & manga), we have
    Poké Ball
Super Ball (just like the Japanese for the Great Ball)
Amor Ball (Love Ball's literally adapted from English)
Ente Ball ('cause we call 'em "Ultraentes" instead of "Ultrabestias" (that's for the Ultra Beasts, "Ultraente" "means " ultra being/entity"))
