    Good DIY. Thanks for doing it. One thing it is always good practice to remove the fill plug first and then remove the drain bolt to drain the fluid. This is because you don’t want to drain the fluid and find out the fill plug is seized.

  • @geoffjefe2000

    Note that the proper torque spec for the differential drain/fill plugs is 45 Nm. 60 Nm is NOT the correct torque for the diff drain/fill plugs.

    • @eurospec905

      This comment should be pinned to avoid further misinformation. Per ISTA 45 Nm for both fill and drain plug on rear differential (33 11 5 AZ torque spec) Otherwise great DIY.

    Great video. I would recommend taking the the filling plug first for both transmission and the differential. If the fluid is drained and the filling plug doesn’t come out then you are in a big trouble 😀

    In terms of fluid temp, where would I want to be? I plan on driving to a shop where I can rent a lift work on my M2. I assume an oil change on a car that was just driven to temp is probably not the best idea… What order do you suggest doing these fluids in assuming that I just finished a long drive should I wait a while before starting? Any thoughts and suggestions are appreciated.

    I did mine recently and I fitted the oil filter in the engine first, pouring fresh oil in to fill up the oil filter. The oil filter top screws on and seats fine and it means theres already some oil up there and the filter is primed before start up.

  • @stevesas632

    Thanks for great video. I need to change the engine & transmission oil on my 2011 1m soon. I see you just went with BMW MFT-LT-5 OEM, but I've been contemplating trying Redline MT-LV as have heard good reports of smoother shifts. Not sure yet though.

    • @skrrtgarage3922
      @skrrtgarage3922  2 года назад

      Thanks! Yea I’ve heard redline is a great aftermarket product. Sometimes I hesitate with gear oil but I think that would work out just fine.

    • @chrisbradley3224
      @chrisbradley3224 8 месяцев назад +1

      I don’t know if you’ve done it but that Redline MT-LV is not the right fluid for this car. This transmission actually takes DCT fluid. The OEM BMW MTF-LT-5 is actually cross referenced by ZF to Pentosin FFL3 which is PDK fluid. The BMW OE fluid is a less good clone of it supplied by Febi Bilstein. The correct Redline fluid for this trans is the DCTF, and yes, it’s a superior fluid to the OEM. Genuine Pentosin FFL3 should be quite good as well.

    • @stevesas632
      @stevesas632 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@chrisbradley3224 thanks for reply, I went with Fuchs Titan FLL-3 in the end, as I use their 5w30 oil in engine, so kept the same brand for transmission.

    A little easier to do then on the F-Type! I wish the F-Type had an opening in the belly pan to get to the drain plik like the BMW.

      Yea as far as DIY oil change go, this car is very easy. I was surprised that the sump plug area is open all the time though - I would have thought they'd be a removable access hatch for that portion.

  • @godbelow

    Always, ALWAYS remove the fill plug FIRST. If that thing is seized in there, after you've removed the drain plug. Well, you're screwed until you can resolve the fill plug issue.

I’m looking at the repair manual table and it says 40 NM, I’m guessing you’re looking at the S55 entry that says 43+4 (kind of a strange way of listing it). But the OG M2 is an N55 engine.
