It's easy to forget about the keyboard and get caught up in the beauty of his skillfulness. He should have a channel for strictly playing. Phenomenal!!!
The board is great and all but Man your touch is undisputedly AMAZING!!! Oh and thank you for the camera angle as well. I've learnt a whole LOT to cover me 2023 through to 24.
Bruh!!! This is the most well played a Fantom I watched since they dropped this board to the public!!!! I’m new to your channel and I’m a fan!!! But I just sold my G6 so when I upgrad to the new flagship version!!! At one point I won’t 3 Fantom families!!! G6 FA & Juno Di along with MO and MODX!!! Want 3 of these!!! 8 for home studio and 2 for stage!!!!
Good Lord, dude. I came to watch a review out of curiosity. But I’m absolutely mesmerized by your playing. But the best part of this video was when you accidentally showed your character and integrity: “…charge it to my head and my lack of experience, not my heart…” In a frustrating world of know-it-alls, this was wonderfully refreshing. Good job, dude!!!!
First of all, let me say, this was one of the best demonstrations videos I ever seen concerning the phantom OC, with keyboard wells, thoroughly explained to say the least. I am now your new subscriber.😅
Now listening back to this demo again, Only thing about this board impresses me is the Synth AUX Stuff, and I agree as well this keyboard was built for sound designers like yourself 😆
Thank you !! obviously a very accomplished player so I can truly respect your opinion...the "feel" is what worries me..There must be velocity settings to adjust the key touch, no? I wonder how the yamaha YC or PC feel in comparison.. Obviously they are not workstations, but more important to me is it should feel like heaven when playing piano!!!
@@AndrewMcKain Thanks. that’s what I thought. I don’t know if it’s Covid but stores don’t seem to have the “new stuff” on display any more!! I’m in WESTCHESTER NY. Have yet to spot a fantom 08 on display yet.
Fantom 7 owner since 2019 here. Honest opinion: don't buy a Fantom if you plan to use it in the studio. Too expensive for what you get, sounds are not up to date compared to even cheap VSTis. If you want the sounds, just buy Zenology Pro and add a decent controller. Don't waste time with the DAW integration, it's really not worth it. It's a good MIDI controller but again, there's better options for much less money available. If you're a live player, it COULD be a very good machine. The hardware is excellent on the 6/7/8. But the software is horrendous. FX is limited for such a top-of-the-line machine, sampling capabilities are a joke. Tonewheel organ is great. Pianos are no comparison to the Nord and even the V-Piano from the RD has been stripped down. All other samples are mediocre, don't fall for that "SuperNatural" thing, it's old. As a synth, it's great. Polyphony is a real problem. I don't have any problems using a loop based sequencer but the one in the Fantom is just too limited and basic. There's one Undo and that's it. Many good ideas which are poorly executed. I use it as my main board live but it's so frustrating to know what COULD have been if they just put some LOVE and DEDICATION into this board. It's a really sad story, Roland has lost it's will to do it right decades ago it seems. If you plan on buying the cheaper 06/07/08 beware of the really limited space and some serious problems with the pitch stick. Search RUclips to learn about it.
Great playing. And relevant according to church musicians. I’ve heard somewhere that you will run into issues with polyphony more easy than on montage/modx. Did you encounter issues when layering piano, ep, pad and string on the fantom? On the montage?
Thanks! I didn't have any issues on the Fantom, I also didn't go too deep in my layering. I have had some issues after 3 patches or more being layered on the Montage at times
Has anyone played the fantom using a high quality headphone like the V-Moda 200 or other from Sennheiser? Does it really make a difference playing it with a HighRes headphone? (I mean plug the headphone directly into the fantom and not using other equipment)
Great review Bro always delivering top notch videos! This is why I love the Fantasy plug by Junior P. The sounds are identical in my opinion. Even tho all the sounds are not on the plug, but there are enough play with lol. Great work Andrew!
May I ask, how do you just "play around" on the piano like that? Are you just playing chord progressions and such? Is it bit of songs you know? Awesome playing!
Thanks man!! And I'd say it's a combination of chord progressions and ideas I come up with on the spot. I've been playing for a long time so it's a lot of information that I've compiled over the years
Thanks. But you should also tell how did you find the sounds here compared to the Yamahas (which model ?) that you said you play. That way it'll be a useful understanding for us otherwise we are just hearing you play 08 sounds through RUclips that compresses sound files.
That’s true, for me personally, the pianos, guitars, bass, etc are better and more distinctive on Yamaha Motifs and the Montage. The synths on the Roland is better in my opinion
Nice video brother I love roland, I know you are a yamaha guy so am asking you this , the motif es or xs can the octave shift up or down in split mode/performance
There should be an overall function in the utility menu that effects the entire board and not just that particular patch. If you want that performance/layer to stay in that octave, I believe you should be able to edit that from the edit menu while in performance mode.
I want to buy montage and fantom both keyboards. For live performance But I'm confused for. Which keyboard should I buy in 88 keys and which one in 61 key For example = 1 (Fantom 8 and montage 6 or 7). 2 (Montage 8 and fantom 6 or 7) So What do you think about that please share your opinion 🙏
@@AndrewMcKain I want to ask that. Which keyboard should I buy in 88 keys and which should I buy in 61 key. From both of this keyboard fantom and montage. According to you
Amazing playing man. 🙌❤ As you said action on this is good but very authentic like acoustic grand but still action feels great and very responsive. Only thing is this doesn’t have impressive combinations sounds like a Kronos & Montage. But piano and synth sounds are definitely impressive. As a pianist I like the action of Kawai MP11se. Piano sounds on Kawai MP11se at-par. Thanks! ❤
I have learn basic clasical piano playing. I have learnt just for 4 years but whatever I have learnt I have learnt fast. My goal is to become a composer and God has put composition skill to me and I wants to explore more music, classical is now in my head but when I see someone like you playing Jazz style it inspires me a lot to learn beautiful voicing. Your musical approach touch to my heart I can feel the voicing you had played in this demonstration. Too compose and arrange music your style of approach will definitely help me a lot. Do you teach? I have one more question. I am getting a real good deal on Fantom8, I am getting this for below $3000 as I personally know the Roland People. Just confused because action on Fantom8 is definitely good but I have experienced that Kawai MP11se is more feel like a real acoustic and piano sounds are also very close to the real pianos. In workstation category I always like the Yamaha piano sounds but I feel Fantom8 has different and better piano sound then Korg & Yamaha. I don’t like the action of the Korg & Fantom8 has little better feeling key action than a Yamaha Montage8, It May be a personal choice. I have a Yamaha YUS5 acoustic piano which is an amazing instrument. Just need your guidance whether I should go for the Fantom8 or not? It would be a great help if you can guide me. Thank you so much 🙏❤
Thanks for your kind words. I’d say if you can get the Fantom 8 for a good price then go for it. It’s not the best for strictly piano but it’s a great synthesizer
It's really dusty! PLEASE, clean me! :) It looks like a midi sequencer... Can anyone enlighten if this is true? I came to exactly the right review. I wanted to see the back board... :) So many of Roland's keyboards have an excellent natural sound. I own an A-49 which is a beautifully weighted natural keyboard, the worst is the JD-Xi which has a terrible keyboard but the most amazing sound bank! Those two midi together very well...
Sounds terrible - Somethings not quite right - either it was not recorded properly, or the sounds of the roland are simply not as good as Yamaha's alternatives, unless one wants to sound dated.
