Montage is a great synthesizer. I have the Modx7 and it has the same sound engines. However I don’t like Yamaha’s “Seamless Sound Switching” because in scenes you can only do 4 sounds to seamless switch and sometimes it jumps the sound volume when switching. I like how Roland and Korea does Seamless Sound Switching. It just work no matter what sounds you are using and up to 16 per scene.
I had a motif xf8 sold it during covid hard times for $2500 what a steal this dude got. I can only imagine the sounds that come out of this one. One day I'll own it. I WAS USEING A TC HELICON EXTREME TO SING AND PLAY WITH THE MODX. MAYBE IF I WILL HAVE THE MONTAGE, THIS WILL RESOLVE AND SIMPLIFY TO RECORD SINGING AND PLAYING. I WILL CHECK OPINIONS ABOUT THE SINGING POSSIBILITIES AND RECORD AND ABOUT THE DIRECT PLUGGED MIC. I THINK IN THE MONTAGE ARE MANY POSSIBILLITIES TO COLOR AND SET THE VOICE. THE DEMONSTRATION IS WERY USEFUL AND UNDERSTENDABLE IN THIS VIDEO. ALSO THE PLAYING DEMONSTRATES VERY REAL THE QUALITY OF THE INSTRUMENT.
Hi Andrew - great video. I have the Montage 8, but for church I still prefer my Alesis and my Korg N364 for their B-3 sounds, esp. with Leslie effects. On the Montage, the mod wheel only seems to add coarse tremolo to the B-3 patches. Have you found a good way to add Leslie, then save it in a real-time knob or slider? (I wrote to Yamaha but only got a "you can change anything you want" answer). Thank you!
I have a Kurzweil SP4-8 as main piano and master controller. A Karma for arrangements and Synth pads and arpeggiator. Finally a vintage Yamaha sy22 for atmosphere design. Plus a midi Alesis v25 and Ableton Live (to alternate). Greetings from Lima.
Hi Andrew, I love the demonstration. I have a MODX 6 but the sounds are as rich as yours sound. Are you using a sustain pedal and other effects? I am curious as to the setup you have. Thank you
Nice 👌 I’m getting a Montage 6 this week to go with my CP88. Starting to get offered some more work now things are getting back to ‘normal’!! I would consider a MODX but the keybed is too ‘bargain basement’ for me.
Amazing playing. the Montage 8 has been calling my attention for quite some time now. i got a roland fantom G7 that i have had for years but the sounds are getting old for me.
Hey Andrew! You play so good, you got that musician's touch! I've played a MODX at the music store and it's something else, interestingly I also came from a Casio CT-390. 😂😂😂 Let me ask you though, do you feel you are missing anything in this keyboard? I've seen some people on forums complain that this board is missing a VA synth engine, like the Roland or Korg. I know gospel musicians love the Roland for the synth sounds (Hugo bass, J-Pop Brass), so do you think you are missing those sounds (or the ability to create those sounds) on the Yamaha? Or do you use alternatives (Roland Cloud, an actual Roland synth keyboard, Korg etc) to cover those sounds, or program them in FMX (if you do that's impressive, people complain about FM programming too, lol). Or maybe the ones on the board are good enough?
Hey bro!! Thanks for checking out the video! So the Montage/MODX has a lot of really great sounds but there’s definitely some different sounds that it would be nice if they had originally on the board. But since I first got a MODX I’ve found so many different sound packs where I have pretty much every sound I want on there now. Like I have a pack with Hugo Bass, there’s people that have sampled the Roland MK-80 and MKS sounds. So even though other keyboards might have more capabilities, the Montage does everything I need it to do and the ability to add extra sounds makes it even better
@@AndrewMcKain Bro! Thank you for replying! Wow, I had to read your comment maybe more than twice just to take in that the MODX is a very capable machine. I just thought that I would struggle to make very nice synth sounds like on the Roland or Korg boards because Yamaha doesn't have a VA synth engine in the Montage/MODX. BTW, where did you get the Hugo Bass pack? Did you sample it yourself, or are you playing it from I'm guessing MKSensation?
@@tonylancer7367 I got the Hugo Bass from an ES soundpack that somebody made, I have to look for which one. Most of the sounds that I have, including the Roland ones, are from a guy named Adrian Charras on RUclips. If you search him, he samples a lot of sounds and gives a lot of them away free
@@AndrewMcKain I know about Adrian! He put out some sounds I asked for, he's pretty dope. Thr only trouble I guess is having all these sounds in one board, especially with the MODX only having 1GB of memory. 😅

I’ve noticed the seamless switching is good in Roland, I don’t use scenes much on the Montage but I definitely see what you mean
The MODX can only Seamlessly Switch up to 4 parts while the Montage can Seamlessly Switch up to 8
GREETINGS.......Thanks for the nice review. Please, would the MONTAGE come with a SMOOTH SOUND TRANSITION feature.
How’s it going! It does have a smooth transition the first time you switch from one sound to another
I had a motif xf8 sold it during covid hard times for $2500 what a steal this dude got. I can only imagine the sounds that come out of this one. One day I'll own it. Yamaha is pretty solid on their prices, I watched the motif xf8 for 5 years and the price never went down, and one day I bit the bullet lol. Hands down best keyboard I ever touched. Good piano playing btw.
Yea the prices don't drop too much, I had been watching the prices on the Montage for a while and I saw it for a steal price one day and had to grab it lol I actually had the XF8 before and got that for about $1,900. They were both secondhand, and I got them both from Facebook Marketplace
@@AndrewMcKain I picked up a second hand Montage about a year ago for 1800$ it was a Montage 6, oh boy what a beast this has been to learn, it's deeply complex. But today in hindsight it has been the best synth purchase I ever did. I have all kinds of synths, Korgs, Rolands, etc. Nothing even comes close to the "power" of the sound that Montage have. Also the keybed of the montage is nothing less than legendary, it has this special feel about it that is so comfortable to play on.
@@joonglegamer9898 yea I agree. The Montage is an incredible synth, I got the Montage 8 used at $2000 and it’s been great, love the keybed on all of them
Yamaha eterno ¡¡¡ ♥️🎵 que naturales suenan esos pianos👏
Beautiful playing! Praise to Jesus! ❤️🤗🙌
Thank you so much!
I love the way you play man.
Really appreciate it!!
Hi Andrew, good stuff. I also have a modx8, I agree with you about the quality. If you are able to upload a detailed video on how you connect your modx8 to Mac etc, that would be much appreciated. Either way, keep up the good work!
Thanks for watching! I think I’ll make a video doing that since a few people want to see it
Thanks Andrew ! ❤❤👌👌🌲🌲
I love keyboards and am blown away at all they can do, especially my korg kronos. the only problem is I don't know how to play them
It takes some time to get familiar but once you are, its amazing all that you can do. Im still not close to exploring all the possibilities
Amazing playing, great review, and subscribed!
Thanks a lot!!!
Nice bro...you doing well!!!
Thanks bro!!!
Great chops, audio started clipping a bit once you started playing from the laptop.
Great video, the Montage is a great board as well!
Yea I love it bro!
Bro, you sound really good !! Love it ❤️👌
Thanks so much!!! I appreciate you watching!!
Thus Amazing .Please a tutorial on to use the scenes on the montage.
Great review and playing!
Thanks a lot!!
Great demo bro! Montage
has a great sound!
Thanks a lot!! And I agree
Great review!!!!!!!!!
My brother you are so amazing
Reassistindo pela 5° vez, incansavelmente. Muito bom meu mano
Muito bom mesmo!
Wonderful Playing Bro. 🙌🏽
Thanks so much! Glory to God!
I WOLD LIKE TO KNOW, WHAT IS THAT DEVICE, WHERE-I SUPPOSE- THE MICROPHONE IS PLUGED. I HAD A MODX AND AS I KNOW THE MONTAGE HAS GOOD POSSIBILITY TO PLUG IN MICROPHPONE.
Thank you!
You mean Alesis Recital Pro...
Your playing is great. Do you read sheet music? And glad to see your using your awesome talent for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
I appreciate it!! 🙏🏾🙏🏾 I can read sheet music, I’m not great at sight reading on the spot though
Nice!! That's a great setup!!
Pick up my MODX6+ tomorrow from Sweetwater. The FA06 that it’s replacing has a far worse keybed. It’s my top board with a CP73 below.
Glory be to God. So inspiring
Great stuff as always doc!
Appreciate it bro!!!
High-end Yamaha sounds ... great synth
Definitely
Amazing playing. the Montage 8 has been calling my attention for quite some time now. i got a roland fantom G7 that i have had for years but the sounds are getting old for me.
Thank you!! And yea the Montage is a really great board
Hey Andrew! You play so good, you got that musician's touch! I've played a MODX at the music store and it's something else, interestingly I also came from a Casio CT-390. 😂😂😂
Let me ask you though, do you feel you are missing anything in this keyboard?
@@tonylancer7367 yea I had that problem when I had the MODX, I have a lot more space for sounds now that I have the Montage though
