Noticed something quite interesting: running at 3200MHz is less taxing on your CPU usage. Something to consider.
More RAM frequency make the CPU work Better and use less ram
3200 paired with 64 GB
That's because it's not having to rely on the memory controller as much due to the slower speed. Better to get the max speed your system can support
And less ram usage, cause there is less information to process because of the velocitu
The real reason is threads stalling on unprefetched memory access that stalls after cache misses. SMT means another thread can run, but the original looks to the OS like it's busy when in fact it's blocked on the memory load.
The CPU isn't truly working less, it simply is spending more time in an idle state.
A very large cache would minimise the effect, the difference varied a fair amount in each game.

it seems that more gpu bound games like assasins creed odysey don't benefit too much from fast ram but when you want to play fps or e-sports games faster ram does seem to give you a significant boost in performance
prob more cpu got strained more it benefits from good rams (usually yes esports and rpgs, or anything with many objects/npc/players)
well bcs memory controller in the cpu i guess
observation only but - in Witcher 3 test as the main example, it looks like the GPU was able to physically work harder by almost 15-20% with the faster ram timing available- almost like a bottleneck to the GPU performing as it should. Honestly didn't consider RAM frequency as being such a large contributing factor to GPU performance - apart from the physical amount (16GB min is recommended) - so definitely worth the extra coin when seeing over 10 fps performance increase via ram frequency alone - those frames will be needed when trying to game at high res or with RTX on. Be interesting to see how that scales with the ram amount.

I bought a pair of DDR4 sticks rated at 3200MHz but could only run them at 2400MHz because the XMP on my mobo was broken. A few months later, a BIOS update eventually fixed it. The difference was... not all that noticeable, to be honest. I work with fairly large photoshop files and do a little bit of video editing and, yeah, I guess it did get a bit less hiccup-y on some more intensive tasks. As for gaming, the difference was very subtle on almost all titles but more noticeable on strategy games, which I guess are more CPU intensive.
bro, I built this pc like 5 or 6 years ago, and at the time my mobo bios wasn't updated and turning XMP on would prevent me from booting so I've been running at 2133mhz ram for years and years now, for nothing, because I turned it on just now after remembering I had updated my bios a long time ago and this time it booted without a hitch.
Today I learned about XMP... and I was able to turn this on within a couple minutes of work. I have been running my 3200Mhz memory in 2133Mhz since the day I build the computer. Seems to be the default in Windows 10. So, double check yours and XMP might also give you an insane boost in your games!
Straight to the point. Well done!
Could it be tht one the other side the gpu is running at a slightly higher core clock hence the difference between 3200mhz and 2666mhz?

I'd be interested in seeing the differences between single and dual channel as well at some point, should be possible without having to get any new tech as well which is nice
Single vs dual channel difference is massive. I'm pretty sure most builds don't use single channel memory anymore so it's not a difficult decision for people.
I know this 3 years old but dual channel has been around since forever. There’s a reason why we abandoned single channel to begin with. Not to mention RAM modules commonly come in a pair so there’s that.

I know this comment is two years old but do you know anyway to make different corsair kits work with 3200mhz?
Throughout the entire week, I have been grappling with my motherboard issues. When using a single memory module at 3200MHz and 1.35v, there were no problems. However, when attempting to run in dual channel mode, I encountered frequent blue screens every 30 minutes. To resolve the instability, I reduced the memory speed to 2667MHz at 1.2v, which allowed me to utilize the full 32GB RAM (2x16) without any further complications. This experience taught me about the disadvantages of using a budget motherboard.

Thanks for the video appreciated but you are comparing speeds with different latencies and the improvement will be obvious. you should have kept the latencies the same to see the difference in bandwidth.

2666 cl13 = 9.75 latency
3200 cl14 = 8.75 latency

I have 2666mhz ram and a friend sells me another 16 at half price do they have a few more fps in gaming or do I keep the money?
RAM capacity doesn't affect gaming performance unless for some reason you have less than you need. 16 GB is more than enough for gaming, and 32 is WAY overkill except if you want to edit photos or something. Now, if you only own a single stick of 16 GB and you get another identical one, you'll see big improvements because you're going from single to dual channel. However, it's generally not recommended to mix and match sticks that weren't sold in a single kit, even if they're of the same model and brand.
tbh, I also wouldn't update from 2666 to 3200. The performance difference is not that significant to make it worth the cost IMO. I'd save it for a better GPU or something. I tested my RAM at 2400 then activated XMP to boost it up to 3200MHz and honestly didn't notice that much of a difference. ofc, since I've paid for it, I'm using it.

This test is great for those with high end hardware, but meaningless for those with mid or low tier hardware. It shows there is a visible performance difference between the speed of RAM, if you have money to spend on the hardware like an i9-9900k and an RTX 2080.
But I'm positive the differences will be less noticeable on a system running mid-tier hardware and low tier hardware like Ryzen 5 or Ryzen 3 combined with any GPU south of $300.
Additionally, at higher resolutions it is even further meaningless. There won't be enough of a difference in FPS to feel the difference.

would this even make a difference on a gpu-limited setup? because in a lot of these clips you can see how the gpu and cpu usage simply go higher as you're not limited in any of the scenarios whilst I have a gtx970 which is always at 100%
It will probably help your lows more than anything but in your case it'll likely be better to save the money for a better gpu + higher ram speeds needs better cpus to really make a difference as, depending on the cpu, they have a point where diminishing returns hits hard.
My 3200 ram has been on 2133 for 2 years 😞 thought I already adjusted it. Just managed to get 3200mhz running because Msi mono does not like over 3000mhz so I had to put in slot 1 and 3 the the fps is marginally better
Human eye: "i see no diff." Insane graphics tho!
if your screen is 60FPS bots 3 benchmarks run over 60, then you won't see differences. Even with a 144FPS screen, cause youtube is stuck at 60FPS
you won’t see difference you’ll feel difference

im hyped, i ordered 16gb of DDR4 ram with 3200mhz today, huge upgrade from my 8gb 2133mhz!
Make sure to turn xmp on
@@user-oh4ky7rv5i what is that
@@iqmalhakim8227 go to your bios and change ram clock speed, if u don't do it, even 3200 mHz ram will run at the 2133 mHz frequency
make sure your motherboard support 3200mhz
For i3 12100 and RX 570 will it make a big difference too?
what cpu cooler did you use?
