Not completely true. The BT-42 was designed to engage enemy armor if needed and that's why the Finns copied a German designed at-round for the howitzer. The German round was capable of penetrating the armor of a T-34, but the Finnish version could not. This is because Finns used low quality materials to produce their own version of the round which meant that the ammunition did not have the same effectiveness as the German built ones. I think it was a heat round and the problem with the Finnish version was the fuse which did not go off when hitting the target.

Wooden logs are a feature that Soviet tanks carried since the day they were born, if the tank is stuck on a muddy terrain, they can attach the log to the tracks, and so it will help the vehicle to move out
More protection is only a bonus that you get from carrying logs on a tank. Since most soviet tanks are designed lightweight enough to cross the relatively weak Eastern European bridges (≈50t), and with a light enough ground pressure to drive well in the snow during the russian winter, it is possible to get the tank out of the mud without needing an armoured recovery vehicle, all you need to do is to press a log against the tracks so the tank can get the slightly better grip it needs to gain traction. As a result of this it has been common practice to carry logs on soviet tanks for a long time, and is thus not a new thing in the Russo-Ukrainian war.
How much do you think it matters protection wise when a log can barely take an RPG-7 grenade, and the log is likely placed on ERA anyway. They carry extra logs because there are no recovery vehicles, not as heavy and bulky improvised composite armour.@@robertdeen8741

The Jagpanzer 38t is really a misnomer. In practice iirc, it was used to replace the anti-tank gun companies within infantry divisions. Most other "Jagdpanzers" were organised in independent companies with which infantry OR armoured Divisions were augmented.
The true mother of all frankentanks are the Type 64 and CM-11 from Taiwan. One is an SPAA hull with a TD turret and the other is a mishmash of three generations of MBTs.
BT-42 surely is one of the most multi-national tanks, it's modified BT-7 by the finns, the BT-7 being soviet-made, the gun is British and the ammunition they used for it is German, and the ammunition half the time did not work, mostly because the gun was inch design while the ammunition was millimeter design, so there was very small but in this case crucial gap left over. Edit : hypothetically the ammunition could penetrate even a jagdtiger from the front (the lower front plate), but obviously they struggled even against T-34s so... hypothetically stayed very hypothetical, meanwhile the only BT-42 left has been pretty much animefied by the Japanese who have shown huge love towards the weird tank.
The Type 64/M64 Light Tank is such a cool vehicle. Tank Destroyer level Armament on a Light Tank that can get up to decent speeds for a tank if its size would've been quite terrifying against APCs and such
another issue with the BT-42 was ammo. Since they couldn't get supplied by the British, they got cannon rounds from the Germans that often didn't spin fast enough in the BT-42's short barrels to arm their explosives, effecting their efficiency.
That is true. The BT tanks used a Christie Suspension which had the ability to run without tracks as it main selling point. They carried it over on the T-34 (and the Brits used it on many cruiser tanks) but they dropped that feature due to being too complex.
NI or NI-1 is abbreviation of Na Ispug (To Scare), name allegedly given after successful attack of 20 NI's on 20'th September 1941. Due to it's loud and rattling noise, Romanian soldiers, advancing on Odessa, under psychological effect, were scattered. Ersatz tanks were created to compensate the lack of armored vehicles in the area. Although it had anti-bullet protection and some weaponry, it was no tank, and was made to create an illusion of tank divisions and slow the Wehrmacht invasion by doing so.
The thing about history: is that the best weapons are often the weapons belonging to the enemy. The Romans stole ship designs from Carthage. Native Americans used American rifles with devastating effects against American troops. The Germans were taking Mark VI tanks and making them their own during the war. They had more Mark VI tanks than their own home brew designs. To quote the original Mech Assault handbook; "What's mine is mine and what's theirs is mine too."
0:31 the top cages are common in all armys where the tank is expected to operate in an urban environment, its to prevent debris from falling onto the top hatch. The wooden logs are for the muddy terrain that is pretty much all of east Ukraine
The Skink was a good design. Unfortunately, the Luftwaffe had decided to virtually cease to exist by the time it reached the front lines. But it was also found to be an excellent tool against ground targets in the last weeks of the war. 4 20mm cannon were very successful in taking out infantry positions.
AFAIK, NI-1 was never meant for combat. It's in its name, NI - Na Ispug - На Испуг - For (a) Scare. It was more intended on halting German advance even for a bit.
Two 25mm naval cannon are actually rather powerful rounds. 25x210mm rounds they are actually devastating against ground targets and the gun itself is no longer fitted to new ships so the barrels and ammo in storage can be used up against enemy troops hiding in woodlands. The trees set off the rounds in the air to you get an airburst effect that is deadly.
taiwan also has CM-11, a hybrid version of M48. it's a mix of M48A3 turret, M60A3 tank hull, combined with M1 Abrams' fire control system and a M68 gun. my guess is it's not just economic wise, it's more about serving the military while playing Lego.
Both sides are getting creative with welding stuff to things Cannibalizing tanks to repair other tanks is standard practice in every military on earth "The Log" (the unditching beam) has been a feature on soviet tanks since the 20s. Nothing perplexing about it, and any "eyewitnesses" observing Russian armour in Ukraine would not be feeling perplexed about anything due to being on an active battlefield. The MT-LB is not an amphibious fighting vehicle, it's a multipurpose tractor, welding stuff to MT-LBs is a tradition in that part of the world. That's the first minute of the video.
Part of it's uselessness was a lack of proper ammo leading to the rounds they did use not arming properly. GuP would be able to order proper ammo, not having to deal with wartime logistics.
canada gettin some lovin! we didnt really develop a lot of war material from the ground up, but we loved to modify american and british stuff for our own uses!
There was the Canadian Military Pattern trucks. They provided almost all the trucks for the British, a large part of the Soviet army moved on them, and were the reason why by the end of the war the Canadian Army, and First Canadian Army in northwest Europe, was the most mechanized army in the world. There was one vehicle for every 3 personnel.
The Skink may have been a bit too late to the War, like the British Centurion which by the time the first tank made to the front, Germany surrendered and it was paraded through Berlin with a few more. The Skink and its 4 20mm cannons would have been more then effective against ground targets, especially when firing anti-tank ammunition which could rip through buildings, and be devastating of course if someone was unlucky enough to be hit by one. Sure, they wouldn't do much to a tank despite having anti-tank rounds, but they are mostly just solid shot, no explosive inside the rounds like the anti-air rounds normally fired at aircraft. It would be ideal to have with a group of tanks travelling in an urban area, if they tanks were suddenly ambushed by enemies in near by buildings, the Skink would be able to melt the buildings by spraying them with the 20mm cannons, saving the remaining tanks if any were taken out. Simply put, the Skink may have been designed for Anti-Air work, but it would have been crazy good at anti-infantry work and would have had more purpose if used in that way.
Skinks did see combat, and were well loved and respected... The catch is, they were NOT used as AA vehicles. They were used as anti-personal, with their 4 cannon flushing out enemy infantry. 1 unit with a single light burst, was enough to flush out and convince some 40 Germans to surrender. They were good against enemy light vehicles, trucks, half tracks, and such, as well as towed guns. Finally they were useful in urban combat, as the enclosed turret and ability to aim high at buildings, allowed them to suppress upper floors during building to building combat. Now, sure, using a 20mm against infantry is technically against the genoiva convention... But this is canada. When the Sorrys stop, the warcrimes start.
It may not have been strictly designed as such, but the T-34s that were actually built during WW2 certainly were frankenstein’s monsters. Specifically from a certain factory that was moved to the urals.
Wowowo.....Hetzer doesnt share the same chassis😮 as LT vz. 38. It looks similar, but you cannot simply swap them between each other. It is a common mistake, so I'm not hating 🙂 But it's good thing to know .

Man, you forget the UC Bren Carrier being used as makeshift AT Tank and fully enclosed Tankettes
And a Chi-Ha fitted with QF-6 pounder
The logs are for the mud not extra armor and the cages are for loitering muniitons are are quite effective in that regard.
Correct , most log are for crossing mud . Adding extra feeling of protection is a bonus .
10:11 Dudes playing both sides, so no matter what; he ends up on top.
The few skinks that made it to combat were loved by ground soldiers for the ease of clearing out Forrest.
Tank Destroyer level Armament on a Light Tank that can get up to decent speeds for a tank if its size would've been quite terrifying against APCs and such
three words: Improvise. Adapt. Overcome
They knew what they’re doing with the title of the video
BT-42 may be terrible but they are great fun in video games^^
another issue with the BT-42 was ammo. Since they couldn't get supplied by the British, they got cannon rounds from the Germans that often didn't spin fast enough in the BT-42's short barrels to arm their explosives, effecting their efficiency.
Its also says that the BT-42's can possibly drive on wheels even without tracks but it does fast...
Finally someone recognised Czechoslovakia being invaded too, thanks man
Son: Daddy, how was the Bob Semple born?
Daddy: You see son, when a Tractor and a Tank loves each other so much ~
You should make a video on the battle of Berlin
Bob sample tank is a only tank is prohibited in wars. Even atomic bombs is less terrible and causes less death than a single bob sample tank attack...
Damn those tanks are 🔥🔥🔥
AFAIK, NI-1 was never meant for combat.
NI Tank v Bob Semple Tank - what a fight that would be for the ages...
taiwan also has CM-11, a hybrid version of M48.
it's a mix of M48A3 turret, M60A3 tank hull, combined with M1 Abrams' fire control system and a M68 gun.
my guess is it's not just economic wise, it's more about serving the military while playing Lego.
At 6:05 grizzly looks like silly tank while the skunk looks to serious
Czechs were ahead of the time. Just unprepared.
It's a surprise knowing that Michael Chiklis owns this channel 😱
I'm a big fan of The Shield btw. Subscribing 😊
Original Title: Frankenstien Tanks
New Title: Tanks in History Engineering Fails
*"You're playing a fast & loose game here..."*
A "Worst tanks" video that DID'NT include the "Bob Semple" tank !!!
As a Canadian, I approve of the thumbnail
The cages on top of tanks keep the used of cheap drones off the top of tanks. Even the IDF is using them now
The BT40 can also speed while playing Säkkijärven Polkka
the Skink was a good mobile AA vehicle for it's time period but it came way too late in the war to be of any use.
Both sides are getting creative with welding stuff to things
Cannibalizing tanks to repair other tanks is standard practice in every military on earth
"The Log" (the unditching beam) has been a feature on soviet tanks since the 20s.
That's the first minute of the video.
this video was so good! but i didint know crossout added air vehicles il check it out!
Hey, if it works it works. The Hetzer work, and Hetzers gonna Hetz.
The BT-42 does work though, and to great effort, just in anime.
Ah yes, Girls und Panzer das Finalle
@@sargeyoukai6860 Der Film was where the BT-42 was first shown, and where we got the full display of its power when unleashed upon its opponents.
I knew the original was useless but never knew it was this useless.😅
@@inductivegrunt94 Ah yeah, Das Finalle come after Der Film. Ma' mistake.
Part of it's uselessness was a lack of proper ammo leading to the rounds they did use not arming properly. GuP would be able to order proper ammo, not having to deal with wartime logistics.
Surprised the Ontos wasn't here
canada gettin some lovin! we didnt really develop a lot of war material from the ground up, but we loved to modify american and british stuff for our own uses!
The Skink was used to good effect against ground targets actually.
Too good.
That was only because the only planes the Luftwaffe had were static gate guardians and models.
Make an Ork mekboy smile
Deez ar' da greatest tanks I've eva' seen!
The BT-42 is one of y favorite tanks in warthunder for sure.
the hetzer was not really a frankenstein tank but a purpose built design
6:40 is the BT-42 from the anime Girls Und Panzer’s
Not from it. It existed in real life.
The skink might’ve actually been a good AA tank of it entered production near the beginning of the war
6:37 couldn't they have used it as an infantry fighting vehicle?
Specifically from a certain factory that was moved to the urals.
can you make an episode about how the B52 were shot down, I’ve always thought they were invincible
4:25 to skip the ads.
Scoff if you wish, but the Bob Semple tank never lost an engagement or even a single vehicle in combat.
Missed opportunity not titling the video “FrankenTanks”
Wowowo.....Hetzer doesnt share the same chassis😮 as LT vz. 38. It looks similar, but you cannot simply swap them between each other. It is a common mistake, so I'm not hating 🙂 But it's good thing to know .
Well, this is magnificent video that managed to be inspiring.
PzGr40 on the Hetzer was rather rare and not needed for most enemy targets.
Ah but, no one built a tank out of a brewery. I would think that would be important.
Surely you meant.... Tankensteins
Great video
Yall need to cool it with the in video ads
Heeey, you forget the australian tanks from WWII - that was something!
The best Tank
the Missing link between Infantry and Artillery
METAL GEAR
A quartermaster's nightmare.
Kinda sad that yall looked at the most factory produced units like Hezters rather than the fugly but useful series like SUs and Marders
Most of these tanks are in War Thunder for a long time and their design was weird but fun.
One or two errors in the video , too late at night for me to list them as I’m bloodshot in the eyes, I’m sure others have already elaborated on them anyway. However, amazing animation and faithful descriptions/depictions as always!
Tankenstein was right there man c'mon
We All Know That The Hetzer Is The Most Popular At This List Due To
War Thunder And World Of Tanks
You Expecting Something Else?
