Few can comprehend the absolute power of the Bob Semple Tank. That's why Imperial Japan abandoned it's idea of invading Australia out of fear of the might of the Bob Semple Tank
Fun fact: The US army managed to loose one of the T-28 "doom turtle" for 27 YEARS, they later found it in Fort Belvoir, it was there So long that there started growing grass INSIDE of the tank...

The Bob Semple tank was actually an example of true engineering genius. The armor of the tank was so thin that the shaped charge of another incoming tank round wouldn't even detonate against it. The Semple would simply drive into the middle of a bunch of enemy tanks and they'd all shoot at it, and their shells would fly through the Semple's armor, out the other side, and hit their teammates by accident, Looney Toons style.
It's true and as a new Zealand citizen I can say no other countries have offered us tanks and we haven't invented another tank so obviously it was the best tank design in history, because as the man himself said I don't see anyone else coming up with any better ideas

It also ment that having every crew member having there own controls wouldn't be a problem as everyone can aim the gun if the gunner gets injured.

also strv 103 is designed specifically for the defensive. By not having a turret, the chances of getting shot are also lower. Low siluet are also give very good defensively
The problem of course is the Tank is only for defensive and cannot be used for offensive, being it unable to fire on the move or fire on the side compared to the newer comparative tanks with Stabilized Gun control.

The Semple tank has a record of 0 crews lost in combat due to malfunction *or* enemy fire. God created man, Bob Semple made men equal.
The 103 is a pretty interesting tank. I saw a video about the 1 surviving operational one. They had a very reactive drive train since to turn the gun they had to turn the entire tank. They could stop and turn on a dime, they also had hydraulic systems that allowed the tank to angle itself to change the angle of the gun as you kinda saw in the video.
the reason for the strv 103 became what it is, was that at the time, most MBTs and other vehicles that perform about the same role, still did not have a very capable gun stabilization system, meaning they still couldn't fire accurately on the move, so they still needed to stop to aim accurately and fire, thus the strv 103 was designed to work with that conundrum, fix the maingun to the chassis that has sufficiently capable armor scheme/design on the front arc, with mobility in mind that can allow the vehicle to relocate after firing. also adding this in, for those who still think or believe that the super heavy tank T28 and the T95 GMC as two different designs/vehicles, i will just paste what i have already commented to other people that is the WoT perspective as they split the two versions to flush out the tank destroyer line, even fabricating their own version of the T28, when in reality, it was still the T28 regardless if it had the external tracks, it simply was renamed the T95 GMC (Gun Motor Carriage) when Ordnance didn't think nor see that the vehicle fitted the classification it was being placed in, making the confusion that made people think (partly or rather mostly thanks to Wargaming) that the two vehicles are entirely different designs/vehicles. even Nicholas Moran had to talk about it in one of his Q&A videos.
Just so you guys know, I wanted to add this here because it wasn't in the video. The STRV 103 uses Gas-hydraulic hydropneumatic suspension to elevate it's whole hull (chassis, lower half) up and down, which results in the main gun going up and down. This is done because like said in the video the gun is welded to the chassis and can't move on it's own. So in order to aim the gun the whole tank needs to pivot In place for left and right and with the suspension up and down. It's rly a masterpiece imo, and the engineering and design of it are absolutely brilliant. The idea of this hull down monster is amazing. Sweden has the strangest tanks in history but, they are smartly built.
In the Philippines, they have V-150... They called "FREE WIFI" and that vehicle includes a ton of improvised wood armor and wifi internet inside (as a military joke)
there are some instances of entire tanks just being converted into fortifications, i can't remember who but i think they were old models that were simply repurposed
A lot of the defences in the infamous Maginot Line were either obsolete tanks or their turrets just concreted over, or they were tanks too badly damaged to be used in-field again. The Germans were especially fond of doing this when they occupied France and reinforced the Line versus the Allied troops.
There is only one t-28 tank in existence and it was found abandoned in a field in Maryland. It’s now being restored as a museum piece at Aberdeen Proving Grounds.
it not at Aberdeen Proving Grounds. in fact it never was at APG. In 1974, the last prototype was discovered abandoned in a field at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Camouflaged in the middle of some bushes, it is unknown where it spent the intervening 27 years. It is the sole remaining example of these tanks and was exhibited at the Patton Museum of Cavalry and Armor in Kentucky. In 2011, it was shipped to its new home at Fort Benning, Georgia. It was placed in the new Patton Park, which is a plot of 30 acres where nine of the tanks being stored at Fort Benning are now displayed.
*Currently in existence there were two prototype chassis built, one of them was lost to engine fire iirc, as what i know both chassis were used in experiments as the program to further develop the tank were cancelled.
The Bob Semple gets memed on for it's "crappy" design, but for the fact that it was an armored infantry support vehicle, it would have done its job really well. Also, I've seen the T28 in person. Absolute UNIT of a tank.
I honestly love the t95, but the speed really does hurt it. Otherwise it is a behemoth that is damn near impossible to penetrate by its contemporary peers.
I know you're joking, but..... Nope, both tanks are the exact same It was originally named T28 Heavy Tank, later changed to T95 GMC and back to T28, but now with the new designation Super Heavy Tank
Apparently, it was nobody's favourite. In a poll a few years back in the military magazine "pennan och svärdet", most of the people who served on it didn't like it IIRC. Mostly because it was a WWII tank with an added oversized (and underarmoured) turret in a 1960's/70's environment
Huge fan of the Bkan, but I don't hate the 74. I find it to be actually pretty fun for its speed and decent gun, and it's outstanding gun depression. I think the main issue is that some play it as a medium tank while it's a light.
The Strv74 was not organized into the armor (tank) brigades, but in lesser formations. It would not have faced off against Warsaw pact tanks on the plains, but utilized its small size to take up ambush positions in wooded areas. Even while being classified as a tank, it is more a mobile gun with a well protected turret. Sweden planned to employ the Centurion and S-tank for defeating armoured and mechanized units in open terrain. The Strv74 was functionally replaced by the IKV91.
Yes~, the Stridsvagn S! Or the 103! Love that design! It's such a weirdo mutant among modern tanks. Really wish more would have brought it, because it seems such a beast of a hit & run machine on paper.
I think if they overhauled the Design with the top Tech available today they could create a Tank that would possibly be one of the best Tanks in our time. After all it was already an good Design at its time, tho the gun needs an Upgrade unless they make it an infantry Support vehicle, cause the only Thing they will pen are Something like bmps? Dunno if thats their Name, aside from that if they want to destroy mbts of todays age with the old gun they will mostly only have luck when hitting them in the Side of from a higher Position through Tanks weaker top Armor.
8:08 Wich was not a big deal, when the Soviet tanks that was the primary threat durring its design phase werent stabelized either. Perfect for ambushing from prepared locations, and the subsequent escape with the high speed reverse. Though, when stabelized guns became more common, that marked an end for the Strv-103.
@@marekstanek112 Survival of the fittest. Make a load of different prototypes and send them to war. The ones that survive the longest are put into production! Seriously though, you missed my point. My point was that it wasn't some one off prototype or a tank that was tested and found lacking. There are plenty of tanks that were either only accepted for a secondary role or not accepted for service at all. In the scope of this video it's the an odd one out. It would be like showcasing one of the classic Soviet tanks of the era that never saw combat.
@@DaReaperZ That doesn't work when your nation's survival depends on producing the tank that you not only haven't started to produce, but even haven't finished developing or at least decided upon. I always thought the Bob Semple Tank wouldn't look out of place in The Walking Dead. It could pass as something a survivor group threw together to get through hordes of Walkers and hostile groups!
My favorite thing about the Bob Semple was that one of the machine gunners was forced to lie down on a mattress that was placed directly on top of the engine.
The final tank is actually something you can see in Generation Zero, if you can get past the Apex account requirements, and the question of how effective the tank would have been in a live combat scenario can be seen by the multiple amounts of those tanks being destroyed because they were overwhelmed by the hordes of robots, a fixed cannon might have a faster reload advantage, but that advantage gets skewered when multiple targets are present. One of these tanks can't take on an entire battalion of tanks by itself especially if that battalion has a mobility advantage.
The swedish also made a prototype for the strv 74 which had 4 rb55's strapped onto the turret. if you search up "Strv 74 rb55" and go to images you should see it And the strv 103 als ohad a prototype which had composite armour strapped on the front hull and sides. At that angle and depending on how thick the composite was it would have 300-600mm+ of composite armour. If you search up "strv 103 composite armour" and go to images you should see it

They could stop and turn on a dime, they also had hydraulic systems that allowed the tank to angle itself to change the angle of the gun as you kinda saw in the video.
There's more than 1 operational one.
But I assume you're talking about the one at Arsenalen.
Yes he is, I have been at Arsenalen
the reason for the strv 103 became what it is, was that at the time, most MBTs and other vehicles that perform about the same role, still did not have a very capable gun stabilization system, meaning they still couldn't fire accurately on the move, so they still needed to stop to aim accurately and fire, thus the strv 103 was designed to work with that conundrum, fix the maingun to the chassis that has sufficiently capable armor scheme/design on the front arc, with mobility in mind that can allow the vehicle to relocate after firing.
also adding this in, for those who still think or believe that the super heavy tank T28 and the T95 GMC as two different designs/vehicles, i will just paste what i have already commented to other people
that is the WoT perspective as they split the two versions to flush out the tank destroyer line, even fabricating their own version of the T28, when in reality, it was still the T28 regardless if it had the external tracks, it simply was renamed the T95 GMC (Gun Motor Carriage) when Ordnance didn't think nor see that the vehicle fitted the classification it was being placed in, making the confusion that made people think (partly or rather mostly thanks to Wargaming) that the two vehicles are entirely different designs/vehicles. even Nicholas Moran had to talk about it in one of his Q&A videos.
Fun Fact: (0:10) the T-28 scene used is clearly inspired by the greatest tank movie of all time "Girls Und Panzer Der Film". Literally the exact scene

It's more like a improvised ERA
I love how this video used an example with a late war emplacement where they ripped a turret off a tank and turned it into a fortification
there are some instances of entire tanks just being converted into fortifications, i can't remember who but i think they were old models that were simply repurposed
It was placed in the new Patton Park, which is a plot of 30 acres where nine of the tanks being stored at Fort Benning are now displayed.

there were two prototype chassis built, one of them was lost to engine fire iirc, as what i know both chassis were used in experiments as the program to further develop the tank were cancelled.
Otherwise it is a behemoth that is damn near impossible to penetrate by its contemporary peers.
the size was a huge problem too because if it was spotted by the enemy, it's roof would immediately be penetrated.

as a swede player on war thunder I immediately recognized the strv 74, I myself am not a fan of the tank. bkan 1c is where it's at for Sweden.
And now we got Archer instead of the Bkan 1

Now do weirdest firearms in history.
this is the weirdest tanks I have ever seen in my life
The Strv74 was not organized into the armor (tank) brigades, but in lesser formations.

Wich was not a big deal, when the Soviet tanks that was the primary threat durring its design phase werent stabelized either.
Perfect for ambushing from prepared locations, and the subsequent escape with the high speed reverse.
Though, when stabelized guns became more common, that marked an end for the Strv-103.

Seriously though, you missed my point. My point was that it wasn't some one off prototype or a tank that was tested and found lacking.

Simple History Logic be like
The final tank is actually something you can see in Generation Zero, if you can get past the Apex account requirements, and the question of how effective the tank would have been in a live combat scenario can be seen by the multiple amounts of those tanks being destroyed because they were overwhelmed by the hordes of robots, a fixed cannon might have a faster reload advantage, but that advantage gets skewered when multiple targets are present. One of these tanks can't take on an entire battalion of tanks by itself especially if that battalion has a mobility advantage.
I liked that you put the sponsor in the middle, since you show what we want to see first and appreciate your work.
The swedish also made a prototype for the strv 74 which had 4 rb55's strapped onto the turret. if you search up "Strv 74 rb55" and go to images you should see it
And the strv 103 als ohad a prototype which had composite armour strapped on the front hull and sides. At that angle and depending on how thick the composite was it would have 300-600mm+ of composite armour. If you search up "strv 103 composite armour" and go to images you should see it
iirc the latter were NERA composite armor blocks, and idk if it's really made of granite as alot of places i read about it do claim that it was.
The strv 103 with composite was only a mockup and the blocks were most likely just Styrofoam.
