The KV2 was an awful design. It could only rotate its turret on flat ground, incredibly top heavy. The turret would rotate on slopes and unbalance the tank. The main gun would often break the turret housing when it fired as well.

@kevjtnbtmglr because the environment of finland was not suitable for heavy tanks as the KV that's why the USSR focused more on lighter and front protected tanks to be mass produced

When the KV-2 design was finished two weeks later they are already participating on the front lines fresh out of the oven because the Soviets thought it would be a good idea to put 158mm navel gun on a tank
Fun Fact - when the German invade the Soviet Union, they really expect it gonna easy ride since the initial attack, they encounter bunch of easily destroy T-26 tank but as they get deeper into the Soviet territory, they suddenly encounter the main backbone of the ussr armor corps, the T-34 and Kv's, then that were they trouble start. Worse that majority of their frontline anti tank gun were 37mm, they pour alot of shell of this tank but simply all of it bounce off, so it quite a shock the German. Hence why they develop the 50mm and later 75mm PAK and Panther and Tiger tank
Its worth noting that the KV-1 could be penetrated by the longer barreled 75mm Panzer 4's during the earlier years of its introduction against the Germans, the 88 want the only gun that could take it out. Its also worth noting that the designation for the KV-1s front armor was 90mm, not 110mm. The KV-1 also had 75mm side armor, not 90mm side armor. The Kliment Voroshilov tank was practically immune to the 3.7 cm KwK 36 and howitzer-like, short-barreled 7.5 cm KwK 37 guns mounted on Panzer III and Panzer IV tanks but long 7.5 cm KwK 37 guns were very much a threat more then even 8.8cm various flak guns of the Germans as number fielded & ability mount a gun is very important. 10.5 cm leFH 18 was another dangerous German piece. Mind for all your mention of guns from what I read mines were more of a concern by Russian Kv tank crews for such heavy vehicles with a high ground pressure has limited paths of terrain they could follow when compared to a T34 let alone a T70 which the latter light tank doesn't get the praise it should. If you know solid ground from soft ground you know were any Kv tanks will cross which is why they were not the super weapon the soviet union was hoping though were effective when the transmission wasn't buckling or breaking. The tiger 1 tank had 1.10 kg/cm²= 15.646PSI minimum & why the tiger 2 was purposely reduced it down to 0.96 kg/cm²=13.65PSI but they slapped stuff on it again that defeated the point on later variants. I would assume a Kv1 has a similar ground pressure if not more then a Tiger 1. Britain for perspective never went above 0.92 kg/cm²=13.1 PSI though lighter & stripped down variants for the north African campaign had a 11PSI which is low pressure for a heavy tank. The Churchill also had the highest incline climb of any tank in ww2 so the British popped up on high vantage points the German thought no one could or would occupy in the deserts of north Africa but slow British infantry tanks did creeping into position most would ignore. British tank had a lengthened front compared to other to house 11 bogies to distribute the tracks which & increase ground area of contact for a reason as it wasn't aesthetics but practicality.
Hull clearance, ground pressure & climb is something many ignore about tanks & vehicles in general but is a lot more important then most militaries give mind. The average human foot exerts 16 PSI & a tank needs to be that if not less for what happens when you or I stand in mud? I look at KV1 & I guess 15 to 16PSI by eye. No wonder mines were a concern as paths of travel are limited. I'd argue the Churchill was the best heavy tank of ww2 as it had 6 inches of frontal armour at 152 mm with a lower ground pressure & no transmission issues. It was a snail but who cares as what infantry men are going to run faster then 15 Mph? Bigger does not equal better & their a point of gun size which it is just a impractical show piece on vehicle for loaders are only flesh & blood. when you go above 3 inches for a mounted gun you add a lot of weight for little return hence both Britain & the yank with eventually the soviet union settled on 3 inches be it imperial or 76.2mm. Even putting shells into a vehicle & transporting them is massive pain in the aris. Only time a 90mm or similar size might be acceptable is a shorter HE round for ant infantry purposes. Mind auto loaders change matters but still not perfected.
The fins absolutely wrecked the KV-1s in the winter war. They only ramped up production in the Soviet union because they had nothing else better to use.
Germans and fins had no direct means of destroying kv-1 since 20-37-40-50mm didn't do anything also at the time anti-tank rifles were not enough Fins destroyd a lot of BT light tanks that finish could penetrate with anti-tank rifles 20mm and 45mm they also had help from winter ussr tanks performed poorly in Finland breaking down a lot and by that time KVS were poor in number. By the end of war 1940 I think that Finland bought stug 75mm from Nazis but never had to use it against new ussr tanks such as t-34s is-tanks etc... They would't no been able to stop these new machines without their own new tanks and weapons. 75 mm high velocity and 88mm were only effective weapons.
Lost maybe, but kept our independence without soviet occupance or being forced to speak russian, I consider it a win no matter how you want to view it.
9:25, fact is disputed. While yes, some sources say that it’s a KV-1, other sources including some of the most recent research points towards it actually being a KV-2 during the battle Rasniai.
One thing I find hilarious about the KV-1 is that the Soviets wisely decided to have a 3-man turret of ergonomic reasons. The 3rd turret crewman faced backwards and was unable to help spot targets or load the gun! But the design did meet the 3 man turret requriement.

People always praise the T-34, but the KV was pretty revolutionary for it's day. When you remember it entered service in 1939, it's quite shocking when you think about what other tanks existed in the world at the time. Overall it was a vastly better tank than the T-34. I often refer to the KV-1 was the Tiger Tank of the early war years of WWII. I honestly think it's the only tank that entered service during the first year that would only a few modifications would have been relevant tank right up to the very end of the war. Sadly the KV was more expensive than the T-34 to manufacture and by mid war it's survivability rate was the same as the T-34. So the KV ended up getting pretty much phased out and and it's hulls used for other vehicles and it's Heavy role replaced by the IS series. It's ironic as the T-34 has been overhyped by tankies and wehraboos alike. Meanwhile the KV didn't get the love it deserved. KV is among my favorite tanks of WWII, right up there with the Panzer III and Tiger tanks.
Ironically, the KV prototype almost killed its namesake, Kliment Voroshilov. During a life fire test, a shell narrowly missed the observation point where the marshal was.
I am from the town Raseiniai (9:22). We have a memorial for the tank crew and many people who are interested in war still talk about that event to this day
I wonder what rhe KV1 veteran crews thoughts too were when they encountered the Panzer III or IV or the PaK 36/37 and then eventually Panzer IVs with longer barrelled guns or the 88mm Flaks or the Tiger I or PaK 38 and 40s
The KV-1s is probably one of the most misrepresented real tanks of wotb, since most play with the larger turret and 122mm gun which only a couple were made in that spec(I think)... most KV-1S had the 76mm and maybe some the 85. Sadly, the video did not tell us what the "S" stood for in the lightweight variant... it's basically Russian for Speedy. Scorotznivoy(sorry I butchered the spelling). Still, the KV-1, and KV-1C were terrifying tanks when introduced, the latter with it's cast turret being resistant to attack from the air(from what I've read), but like dinosaurs of the Jurassic period, they went extinct and were superseded by the Cretaceous period dinosaurs....which also went extinct.
It feel disappoint that he talk little about KV-1S the KV-1S is lighter variant with thinner armor and a smaller, lower turret in order to reclaim some speed. The KV-1S had a commander's cupola with all-around vision blocks. It also had a sophisticated planetary transmission that significantly increased the reliability, and allowed use of more efficient regenerative geared steering, unlike the solely clutch and brake steering systems used by the Panzer III, IV and T-34 and previous KV tanks. Its reduced weight allowed it to achieve a top speed of 43.3 km/h. Over 1,300 were built before production ended in August 1943. Although the KV-1S was, according to some, the best of the KV tanks, overcoming its predecessors' problems (at a cost of losing the heavy armor that made the earlier tanks so valuable, making it more of a slow medium tank than a heavy tank), more modern tanks were already in sight.

2:45 Oh man, the nightmare from Company of Heroes 2 is back 😨
The fins absolutely wrecked the KV-1s in the winter war.
Consider they lost twice , maybe they didn't destroy them as well as you think they do
Hmm but they lost, they was so mad that they allied with German
@@huyhoangtahuu9733 "Lost" LOL they were never in the Soviet Union even. Cope.
Lost maybe, but kept our independence without soviet occupance or being forced to speak russian, I consider it a win no matter how you want to view it.
Thank you as always for your great videos Simple History 😉
9:25, fact is disputed. While yes, some sources say that it’s a KV-1, other sources including some of the most recent research points towards it actually being a KV-2 during the battle Rasniai.
Кв 1! Кв 2 не мог так быстро разбить колонну немцев из-за медленной перезарядки... V
one of my favourite tanks
I'm always learning something new from simple history, I love this channel! Thanks guys!
That was the greatest sponsor clip you’ve done.
The War Thunder ads caught mr off guard because of hos fittingly well your voice is to be used for War Thunder comme
One thing I find hilarious about the KV-1 is that the Soviets wisely decided to have a 3-man turret of ergonomic reasons. The 3rd turret crewman faced backwards and was unable to help spot targets or load the gun! But the design did meet the 3 man turret requriement.
I think the words Carnival of chaos describe War Thunder the best and I love it
Finally, one of my Favorite Tanks finally get to be in a video.
I am playing War Thunder right now. I wish you guys had a special for subscribers with current accounts.
Anyways, great video! It helped me understand for myself and in game knowledge
"Most comprehensive battles"
Random HEAT shell: *Bounces and changes direction 3 times before returning to the original strike point and finally working as intended*
Warthunder and Comprehensive definitely don't belong in the same sentence, unless Comprehensive is prefixed by a non.
Keep up the good work and I love the kv1 tank it is so cool to look at
Ironically, the KV prototype almost killed its namesake, Kliment Voroshilov. During a life fire test, a shell narrowly missed the observation point where the marshal was.
The Commander that you show is actually the Loader, the Commander of the KV-1 on the right side of the Gun Breech.
Keep doing more tank vids, i'll waiting for Tiger II 🐯
Great video Can we get a crossout section of the M26 Pershing? its a medium tank many don't associate with except in Korea
That's not a KV-2! It's Stalin's refrigerator!
please do one for the French Char B1 :)
Hull armour on the kv1 is not 110/90mm
That would be thicker then a tiger
WE MAKE BEST THINGS
Now we need an interior of the Char series, Liberty tank, Independent tank, and the T-35.
Fun fact, when it took a hit in turret the whole thing rang like a church bell and the poor crew suffered badly 🫨🫨
Didn’t the KV-1 get sent in to the winter war as a experimental tank along side 2 other experimentals
Have a great week everyone ❤😊
KV-1 is my second favorite tank in WW2 (Favorite one is Churchill mk.7)❤
7:50 Does this creator think the entire crew was in the turret? Look at the top-down view.
Lmao 😂
Might have been a animation/animator error xD
I am from the town Raseiniai (9:22). We have a memorial for the tank crew and many people who are interested in war still talk about that event to this day
and historians still can't decide to this day, but it was actually KV2
This ad read felt like Badger wrote it and I love it
Those planes looked well below stalling speed!
I wonder what rhe KV1 veteran crews thoughts too were when they encountered the Panzer III or IV or the PaK 36/37 and then eventually Panzer IVs with longer barrelled guns or the 88mm Flaks or the Tiger I or PaK 38 and 40s
The Finns brutalized soviet Tankers lol
I read that as Soviet tanks at first
They still lost tho
@@okand1921yeah but soviets had 10 times more casualties and Finland still kept its independence

KV-1B is one of the few tanks out of Russia I will see and go " Well, for awhile they were onto something. Good work. "
When will we have tiger 2 cross section?
the kv-1s was a attempt to rectify the reliability problems of the kv-1
Can you make Char-2C Super Heavy Tank cross section next with the 105mm variant, or even the Lorraine variant? Or B1-bis?
Please get a story about Christman. The forgotten serial killer in history!
"Skorostnoy" from "skorost" (speed).
@@Tanaicus thanks for the spelling correction, I knew it was something along those lines 👍🏻
It feel disappoint that he talk little about KV-1S
the KV-1S is lighter variant with thinner armor and a smaller, lower turret in order to reclaim some speed.
You should do a cross section of the is2 tank
do video on turkiye
Please do life inside of a KV 2
9:42 - 9:53 : Russian war movie named "Tankers" was inspired by that 🗿🍷
Here's a Fact
Alexander's keen interest in exploration led him to the Oracle of Amun in Siwa, Egypt, where he was allegedly recognized as the son of Zeus. This divine validation further fueled his belief in his destined greatness and influenced his leadership style.
Interesting that the commander is so far from the radio operator. Wouldn't he want easy access to the comms?
I think it is more likely that the „monster of raseiniai“ was a KV-2, but we will never know for sure
Pls do a video on the IS-1
Me being a German main I also like soviet tanks an I must say KV-1 is underrated
Please keep doing more tank vids like this
We have a photo of my grandfather with destroyed kv1 behind he served in rukajärvi area
I don’t know why but now I wanna see one of the m18 hellcat or centurion
why in the animation the KV-1s had White Stars instead the Red Soviet Star
Last time I was this early, the USSR still existed
Good Russian film called Tankers with KV1. Think it's on RUclips
Please Do a WW2 Bomber Planes Next I Think It Would Be Cool 🤞
Could you do any battleship cross section
Now we must see cross section of t-35. Guess it would be hour long to cover all crew positions.
Do kv2 next
Very nice, can you able to "life inside of strumtiger" next?
Russians are excellent at tank chassis
@Simplehistory Hey, you know what thats the best War Thunder AD for a YT creator because every other person just reads what Gaijin gives them and they always say there is over 70 million players. Well, that right there is a flat-out lie because there's no more than 250k on at max in the peak time in the year of 2024. So anyway props given for your AD for WT It is actually WAY better than anything I have seen this year from anyone besides the actual company itself Gaijin.
Atleast the KV was spacious
8:53 This is incorrect. The KV tanks were used on mass on day one of operation Barbarossa.
KV1 A good example of the Soviet Armor!
10:42 Comparing a 1939 and 1944 tank is genius. Moreover, KV was built at least 5 times more
it shouldn’t be compared at all. i believe is2 is on the same line, and even if the KV is built 5 times more, it still could never penetrate the tiger II’s front armor
I'm now wondering if you'll make a kv2 (Stalin's fridge) video
Can you guys do a cross section of the B-52?
Don't forget the smk and the t35 is not a prototype
@simplehistory
I beg you make a video about the Soviet ISU-152 please🙏🥹🥹
