Ty for being a long time follower
@@PaintSociety I'm on the fence about trying to repaint a two door hatchback myself, vs. getting prep work done seperately before taking to a reputable Maaco or another "less expensive" option, though still wanting the high quality two stage options, and starting with primer and good surfaces, etc. HOW MUCH DO YOU THINK IT WOULD COST ME, ROUGHLY, TO BUY THE EQUIPMENT YOU USED IN THIS VIDEO (THREE SPRAY GUNS, PRIMER, BASE COAT, CLEAR COAT, AS WELL AS VARIOUS SANDING TOOLS). SO LET'S SAY, THE PAINT ASPECT ONCE THE TRIM AND GLASS HAS BEEN REMOVED BODY DENTS AND RUST HAS BEEN REPAIRED AND IT'S READY FOR PRIMER. It may be most economical and practical for me to try to bring a prepped car to a maaco for example. I feel like the results would probably be similar in quality, but at last Maaco people have experience and would be shooting in a professional booth, etc. On the other hand, it would be worthwhile for me to acquire tools if I thought this would be the first of many restorations/ sprays on my own. I have sanded and polished cars before, and sanded orange peel from other cheap paint jobs, but never stripped / surface prepped/ or painted a car (although I do think I'd be good at that if I tried).
Good job bro, I'm also a production painter and just started watching your videos. It's good to see someone who takes the time to help others. There's a good many tips and tricks to our game and it makes me feel good seeing people willing to help others have a better understanding of the process.
Hell
Yea bro. Thats awesome ty again for the comment
As a beginner painter you make a lot of valuable videos for us thanks for the valuable information keep going love from India ❤
Great job
Great work!!
I have been preparing, both mentally and physically, to paint my project car for at least 2 years. This is exactly what I need to guide and push me towards finally doing it! Really appreciate all your videos, especially as an amateur, this information is absolute gold.
Decision paralysis is a killer just start it you will wish u started earlier 😊

I have a great project car he can work on. My 1972 Pinto... I'm trying to decide:
Wimbledon White or redo a version of the stock brown color.
Im going to autobody school for the next 2 years. I've been watching your videos for years, so far ive painted a jeep and primed my rx7. The jeep didnt come out but it was a learning experience. The only reason i can do any of this is because of your videos.
Awesome! This video was designed for folks just like yourself 😇😇
Looks amazing
Man that really came out 🔥🔥🔥 thanks for teaching/ entertaining us all!!!
Glad you enjoyed it
Nice job!
I’ll be doing my second paint job this week. So excited! It’s a crew cab squarebody with a two tone scheme. I bought an inflatable booth with exhaust for this one. First one was my v8 s10 in my garage. I wouldn’t have attempted it if not for this channel! Thanks teach!
Good luck. Sounds like a great projectb
Yes….the nova in the pic next to my name was painted 4 yrs ago after watching several hours if paint society vids…..in my garage all by myself for the first time with actual auto paint…since then ive painted 5 of my other cars each one coming out nicer than the last…..dont overthink it folks….its just paint!!!! Just let that sink in!!!
Where do you get the inflatable booth and cost ? Thanks
@@edwarddaou9941eBay. Seller name is homnia, paid $600 , 30x20 but was supposed to be 36x20. My truck is 22ft long so I had to take the door down between the mix room and paint room. Set the booth up today to check it out, Paint tomorrow. I’ve been filming so I’ll let you know when I post it. Might make a new channel for garage stuff so it’s not on my business page.

That Eastwood epoxy says in the tds that it can be used as a sealer. I’ve done it and have had amazing results. I love that primer! Beautiful job btw!
Yes. It works great! Ty
This is awesome. Painting is one of those things where I think I can do it, but I don't know if I'm quite ready for a big job yet. Gotta get my toes wet first.
This is guide was designed with you in mind. To gain the confidence to get out there and try
Pro work 100%%% big up..
Great job Brian! I'm working on an RSX right now and need that paint stripper!
Check the description! 😇😇
Nice!
Thank you! Cheers!
Damn went all out and removed the glass 😮 nice!
Clean awesome job ❤
Thank you! Cheers!
So today I bought some useable paint liners and hopefully next week I’m going to get the 3m paint gun from Amazon because I seen the episode where you use it. I don’t have a way to clean a gun I need to find an air compressor. I know I’m going backwards but I’m getting the easy stuff first so hopefully 🤞🏾 I can paint my car by October 😊
Hi Brian. Hope everything is good. I really enjoyed this series and your dedication. Tons of work for you and your team. God it got to be smokin hot in Florida. You guys were soaked. Thanks for all the tips and tricks. Your ride turned out amazing. The finish looks like a mirror. I’m 6’3” but wish I had 3” more inches. 😂 Enjoy your weekend with your beautiful family brother.
Hi Jim! Some of those summer days we were 3 shirts deep throughout the day. Cintas couldn’t keep up, nonetheless i was able to knock a few unwanted pounds off the waistline this summer. Car came out great, could have used your 6’3” and wing span over that roof! Time to enjoy weekend. From my family to yours. Happy labor day!
An old timer at a local paint supplier said the shape on a block sandpaper is different from da sanding disc same grit. Block paper has a pointy material and a da disc has more rounded material.
Yup! Thats correct. Great point
Amazing work.
Look so nice. I would love to paint my supra
Make it happen
Brian great job but when are we Going to know who won the spray gun give away
Tonight 😇😇

A video on paint booth settings would be great.
For buffing I use the 3m 3 step products.
Appreciate the content ,how many novice people have the room or the knowledge to tear a cat down to just the nuts and bolts.thanks man.i gotta crawl before I do and marathon.not for me
Thanks for all the info Brian! Big help! What air regulator do you use/recommend? I will soon be spraying a Metallic and understand air settings need to be consistent throughout job.
Hi Brian. Many, many thanks for all the videos and the excellent information. Have you ever sprayed the old style cellulose paint, and if you have ,do you have any tips please. Best regards from the UK.
I remember seeing a video about trying to use a pancake air compressor, why isn’t that possible and can you add an air tank to make it possible?
Not enough air volume
could you do a video on body panel replacement documentation for motor vehicle and procedure Thanks great show
I wish you would add text, to help us take notes and it’s nice to know what you deem noteworthy. Thank you for all your help!
Good bro !
Hi Brian, I have watched and learned from many of your videos and I have painted my Tesla door with PPMR red and it’s 95% color matched and I still see somehow the color is lighter but some other angles the color looks matched. What can I do to make it darker to match the original panels color? Should I clean clear coat and apply 1/2 coat midcoat or mix midcoat with clear coat (tinted?)

NightHawkBlackPearl B92P paint was a excellent Color for early model Acura/Honda models.
They need to bring it back
@@PaintSociety They should or something similar. My 04 Accord has this color.
Awesome video. Have you ever tried using the epoxy primer as a sealer by reducing it 15 to 20%? If so, just wondering the results, pros & cons, etc. Thanks!
Yes I have. It works if you dont have any body work to do
Hi, I love your work!
Could I ask if you don't mind please. When you have a brand new panel (before attaching it) you prime, base and clear coat. How do you blend it to other panels next to it?
And when doing smart repair on small damage area. Do you sand damage area, then fill and sand. Then 1000 grit entire panel. Then prime damaged area, then base coat damage area but flick it so abit goes on other panel. Then clear coat it all?
I prefer never to blend clear. Its much easier to clear the whole panel for a longer lasting repair
can you review your air compressor and the filtration?!
Hi. Yes i have videos on it
Hey Brian thanks for the videos I tackled my 2011 Silverado repaint job. Single stage black 3 coats with aero pro a610 some spots turned out very glossy others had some serious orange peel wonder what the reason?
Just have to keep those passes as even as possible and watch the paint go on. Try dropping pressure 2-3 lbs
Great review! 👍🏼 what kind of sealer do you recommend for the price? Didn’t catch the name on the video or on the list in description
Sealer is tough to find online to suggest. We use colorbuild but you can reduce that sane epoxy primer by 20 percent as a sealer
Great video, Brian! I'm undertaking a frame-off restoration of my '83 Land Rover Series 3. It's an all-aluminum body (a.k.a., Birmabright). Would you recommend the same process for aluminum with an epoxy primer as the starting point? Thanks! ~Pete
Hi Brian, I have a couple of quick questions. My Mustang was painted about two year ago and has been sitting in my garage since as I have been working on it. I want to repaint the car since it has gotten a few dings and some nicks. I am also going to seal it before I paint it. What grit sand paper should I use to scuff the clear? After I scuff the paint, I will expose the dings, etc... should I sand them down to the primer or metal before adding body filler? I am normally getting many automotive questions but this is my first time asking a question because I never really got into the painting process. Lol. Thank you SO much in advance.
It be best to watch as many videos as possible so you can actually see it in person, but generally, you’re gonna sand your clearcoat with 600 and then scuff your dings with let’s say 180, this will create enough of a scratch for light filler on small dings.
Thank you SO much for replying to my question. I know you receive hundreds of questions daily and it can be quite exhausting responding to questions you have already answered in previous videos. I am very meticulous on how I do things that's the main reason I asked. You have MANY videos showing exactly what I need to do. Once again, thank you for your time, replying to my question and the incredible DETAILED videos you have posted throughout the years. Sincerely, Terence
Thanks Brian ------ you do -- Beautiful work ---- Thank you for the Technics -- the Tips and sharing all that with us ----- I asked a question in another video ---- and I would still like to know ----- I haven't gone out and bought a Respirator yet ----- You have a nice booth to spray in and you can get those fumes moving out ---- I'll just have a garage ---- Even you spraying the clear there are a lot of fumes ---- your suit has a hood ---- gloves on your hands ----- there's the question ----- the Clear / Urethane has those isocyanates that supposably get into the eyes and into the skin ----- Is this just with certain paints? You are only wearing a half mask with the good filters ------- Full Face Respirator or is a ---- Good ---- Half Mask? ----- Would like your input on it ------ Thank You Again ------ I really enjoy watching your videos ----- hoping to pick up what you teach ----Hope you have a Good Labor DAY ----- Rodney
Rodney. Its always best to completely cover up. Even i should be wearing a full mask respirator and i suggest you should if you dont have a booth.
On the 2k primer do you need to scuff it in between each coat? I want to paint cars but I currently paint boats and use a sealer you don’t have to sand at all. If you have dirt I’ve noticed it’s better to sand it out after base.
The Ultra paint stripper seems to work good enough if you follow the directions. Will save me a lot of sanding mess. I couldn't never afford to pay shop rates to do the amount of prep I want on my project car and truthfully I'd rather do it myself. Now if only I could get shop prices on good paint. ouch.
The ultra works just like the old stuff. Its great!
So on nice restoration jobs do you recommend the polyester primer all the way through ?? Or polyester primer then go to a high build 2k primer for the 2nd round of primer ?
On something you want really straight that’s a little bit older. I suggest a polyester first
If using a cheaper clear, would you want to put 3 coats if you're gonna cut and buff?
Yes
Sweeeet !!!
Maybe an odd question. If one were to be changing the colour of the car rather than repainting it back to (better than) factory, would you recommend painting some or all of the interior body work as well?
If doing a color change. Change as much as possible.
What a great video ... been waiting for this one!! I cant imagine what a paint job of this quality would cost in a shop. Amazing!
I'm the original owner on my car and I know there's no body work and it has only the original paint. Can I just use the paint remover on the whole car? (Do I need to use that air file if it's all original?)
Is that epoxy the same stuff you used in the rattle-can video a few months back?
Hi. Send me pics of your car on IG painf.society
Great video! I plan on doing my car soon. Any advice on tip sizes to use with a HVLP for each step of the way (Fuji 5 stage)
Use .8 fluid tip
Thanks, would you ever try paint a whole car with electric hplv gun with nozzle 1.5
Never would when there are better products
@@PaintSociety yeah i agree what about rolling on paint can diyers get some ok result with that method ? Do you have a video of this idea
On boats I don’t want to be there for 12-14 hours in a day so I’m a coverage junky. I put the base on so wet it’s on the edge wanting to run. Smoother the better. lol I need the base and everything to be as smooth as possible because we only do 1 coat of clear.. the clear has a after flow and runs super easy so it’s hard to get a good build with 1 coat. Leads to an orange peel I don’t like. 🤷🏻♂️
No need to hit the cut threw’s with etch before sealer?
no metal, thats gray primer
what is the correct way to use body filler over epoxy? sand the surface or just body filler straight over epoxy? been hearing people doing it both ways
I used 180 grit to scuff it
Good morning your channel is excellent. I have a question. I have a 2016 F150 all factory original paint. My question is I have to repaint the tailgate but I’m going to use a non-water based paint Tamco base and clear is product is what I will be using regular base clearcoat. Can I apply that over the factory paint or will I run into problems such as cracking, peeling and bad adhesive thank you..
If the paint is in good condition, then just sand with 600 grit and you’re ready to paint.
@@PaintSociety Ok the reason I am asking you for your expert opinion is because it’s the new aluminum body and I think it is waterbased paint from the factory and I will be using Eastwood products such as their urethane high bill primer and I wanted to use regular basecoat clearcoat, but just wasn’t sure if it was compatible with the factory water-based paint but OK I will take my precautions and I will carry on. I just need a little reassurancethat it’s OK for me to move forward. Thanks again for reaching out.
Hi Brian so you block sanded with water to make your sandpaper last longer ?
It ensures a cleaner cut
Hello, The TDS for the Evercoat Feather Fill says: "Once dry sand Feather Fill with 400-600 grit sandpaper prior to next step" but if I'm correct you used 180 grit. The TDS also does not say anything about not being able to paint basecoat over it. Can you clarify? Thanks
400/600 if youre painting over which is not recommended. Used 180 because the point of feather fill is to block and you need 180 to block. Then followed up with primer as you saw in the next chapters
Thanks for more information. The TDS leaves one in the dark about that. The car came out fantastic! you are one heck of a painter! Thank you for making these videos.
@7:00 My question to you is how/when do you know when to stop sanding?
You can use water to check if the panel looks flat
You said you used 1 gallon of already reduced base coat so that means its equivalent to 2 quarts of 1:1 base paint from the paint store. Did you drive it home with windows rolled down and arm sticking out the window? I know i would. Good job.
Yup but remember we used the same color primer/sealer as the car
Super chingo 🎉🎉 cuál es el clear coat que usaste?

It’s hard to get around a vehicle and keep a wet edge across the roof what temp do set the booth at ? I know you preach slow everything to help coats lay out but even with slow it’s very difficult to get around a full respray sometimes it’s almost impossible to get a good stop n starting point.
This is why its best to paint apart but at the same time if possible. We cant set our booth temp. It was around 90 when we sprayed
I thought you’d still see the sand scratches in base with 500 or 600? I use 800 grit on boats I have to repaint. I was told to only use 800 if I didn’t plan to seal. Maybe that’s just awlgrip.
Help!
First time painter here... I sanded & sprayed my car, and instead of getting this slick, smooth finish feel to it.. the surface came out feeling gritty and rough, almost like 600 sand paper. What did I do wrong?
How long did u take to paint the whole car from start to finish ?
2.5 months

does the 2k primer colour effect the base coat colour shade when trying to colour match or blend panels to the rest of the car?
