Hey Jack, as a Ford man I really did, and still do admire Larry and Perkins Engineering, it was kept simple, but boy was it effective, and I love your work mate, it's really good to see the old girls kept alive and well, it's a credit to and I'm sure Larry is more than proud, thanks for the great content, it's excellent 🤝🇭🇲
My Father built many race engines and was part of that whole Aussie can do era . He was always inspired by your Dad and Perkins Engineering amazing ability to build winning motor cars . Whenever the Great Race was on , we would always be willing you guys on . To this day it is the reason I still buy Castrol oil for my family's motor cars when I do oil changes. Best of luck for you and your family in 2024 and thanks for the memories ...Paul C.
Thanks for always bringing enthusiasts along for the ride and great to see companies have an interest to sponsor and be part of the journey too.. thanks Jack!
jack can you please say thank you to your dad for me for speaking up regarding the Australian motor sport voice bullshite, it has nothing to do with Australian Motorsport, it only divides us , we are all equal, i am so sick of nany state afl, cricket Australia and now motor sport australia telling us what to do, GOOD ON YOUR DAD, cheers mate
Mate love the amount of detail you go into every video and these holdens are just amazing to see till this day thank you for bringing us along for the journey
Love it Jack great video. I love the tower of power in the centre I think I saw Larry talking about how he used aviation switchgear because of the reliability and durability. Big fan from Wales U.K.
What a great bit investigating. Would have never guessed it had the system installed given 7 Sport didn't show too much of the interior. Great video as always Jack!
I think it's because it was such a new piece of technology and effectively gave no performance advantage, maybe the weight was seen as a slight disadvantage...
Yes, we are looking forward to powering up these original Data recording units (PI Systems) in both cars so we may be able to cover in a future episode.
Love the detail you are going to Jack. If it was there, it was there. Even if it wasn't for the race. I agree it should go in, just for posterity sake.
I recall reading the write up in Motorsport News after Bathurst and Im sure it was 1993, Larry blew an engine in practice at the end of Conrod and when explaining it to a journalist he pulled out his laptop to see what speed he was doing at the time. That would indicate that he was indeed running a data logger. From memory it blew at 277kph and sprayed oil over the tyres making it a little hairy into the chase.
Yes correct, lap tops were very rare back then too!!! We had a Toshiba sponsorship deal in 1992 so we ended up with 1 or 2 of them. In 1992 they were used to help tune the ECU at the track, and then more and more data acquisition as the years rolled by.
Awesome work Jack and great content. I also like the fact you are giving back to the sponsors that have supported you and your old man by giving them a plug 👍🏽 Can’t wait for the next video
So it imitated a HK Monaro with the tach on the console!! That car had some incarnations,James Rosenberg converted it to VR spec as well as a Chev, from Perkins. I can remember Larry under the bonnet at Mallala when it had valve train issues. Rocker geometry was very average!! And after that it was fairly beat up when running level 2.
Agree that it should be in the car! Otherwise you'd have to mount it, wobble it around a bit and then remove it so you got the same scratches and markings as there were on race day on the shifter plate ;)
That is a surprise. I was always under the impression that the link was made to the pits with a couple of modems running on the mobile phone network. Even going back to analog days of Group A. Oh well nice touch.
Well that's live telemetry, which is not something PE had until maybe the 2000's. The PI system or any Motec Data logger would give you all the same information but just after on track outings, not during, unless a laptop was plugged in to download.
Bang on job with this restoration continued. I love all the fine details you’re willing to go to and that you actually take the time for them to make it as authentic and period correct as possible 👍 already looking to the next one, cheers jack!
Yes that's correct, through Perkins Technologies they created a DAAM - Data Acquisition and Alarm Monitoring. This was sold some time ago to another company.
Another great show Jack and thanks for sharing. I laughed at the 5:58 minute mark seeing Larry checking out the chassis on the Peter Jackson grid girl😂😂😂. Keep up the great work mate
Larry won't remember he's too laid back and he just drove it........🤣🤣No seriously though, it was really new kit at the time so Latty was probably more race focused than worrying about new tech.
I get a real kick out of the level of “sleuthing” you go to to make everything as accurate as possible. Really enjoying these updates 👍🏻
Cheers Ross, yes lots of time and energy has gone into it. Most of it happens at night lol

Cheers for the note!!
Would love to see both of these rockets in action at a future Phillip Island Classic once the full refurb is completed.
That would be cool! Cheers!

My pleasure!
Great work Jack, I'm loving the extra mile and detail going in to these restorations.
Attention to detail!
Love it Jack great video. I love the tower of power in the centre I think I saw Larry talking about how he used aviation switchgear because of the reliability and durability. Big fan from Wales U.K.
Cheers! Yes that's correct, aircraft switches from an aviation surplus business based at Moorabbin Airport which is where we were based in 1993-2011.
great video Jack, love the attention to detail that you have for these cars. keep it up mate
Cheers Craig!
Thanks Jack, your attention to detail is amazing 👍🏻🇦🇺
Cheers!
What a great bit investigating. Would have never guessed it had the system installed given 7 Sport didn't show too much of the interior. Great video as always Jack!
Yes it was a lot of investigating, they didn't have an in-car camera in 1993 so that made it even harder!
Jack any reason why the PI system wasn't run during the 1993 Bathurst race? I might have missed that part in the video.
I think it's because it was such a new piece of technology and effectively gave no performance advantage, maybe the weight was seen as a slight disadvantage...
Hi Jack. Perhaps the PI system could be a topic you can cover in video. I’ve never knew about this system until now.
Keep up the great work.

5:57 Larry perving on the Peter Jackson grid girl. Those were the days.👍
Mum took the photo from the pit wall too lol

Fantastic just love the detail can't wait to hear there heart❤beat
Its not very elegantly put in or on, it does looks like it was just chucked in at the last min. 😄
100%
Attention to detail is excellent. Unearthing these little details is hard work!! Well done
Many thanks! Cheers

That's correct, Rosenberg upgraded to VR/VS and Chev. It did lots of racing, right up until we got it which was 2015/16.
Larry Perkins engines all ways had the best sound and HP
Agree

Hahah not wrong there, don't worry that thought had cross my mind!!!!!
the surprise cheeky data logger shenanigans
thats it!

Outrages tech, should be banned 😁
Should've been banned way back then, we could still be using Stack Tacho's and VDO gauges!!!
Great job Jack, beautiful cars . Steve.
Thanks Steve!
Another fantastic video Jack
Cheers!
i have a vague memory from years ago that Larry was also developing a data logger for helicopters ?
Yes that's correct, through Perkins Technologies they created a DAAM - Data Acquisition and Alarm Monitoring. This was sold some time ago to another company.
Hard to believe we are talking about cars that raced 30 years ago. Where does the time go? Great vid thanks.
Crazy hey! Cheers!
Very informative Jack... thank you
You're welcome!
Loved the tower of power.
So do we!
Another great show Jack and thanks for sharing. I laughed at the 5:58 minute mark seeing Larry checking out the chassis on the Peter Jackson grid girl😂😂😂.
Keep up the great work mate
Cheers!!!
Awesome episode again. Appreciate the time that goes into it
Thanks!
Hi there, do you have any clear photos of the Castrol Cougars car raced in Bathurst?
We have many clear photos of all cars :)
@@perkinsengineering what about the Cougars , not the cars
@@volksdeutschewaffenss9670😉😂😂
Was there a gag for Bathurst where a carboard bull bar was attached in 92? Some of the students my school made it.
Not that i can recall??
Nice work Jack thank you 👍
Cheers!
Hey Jack. Love your work 👍
Cheers!
You should have a crack at restoring my 07 VY V6 Wagon lol
That would be too easy
Awesome detail.
Cheers!
Very interesting stuff
Cheers!
awesome stuff mate ...... simply lovin the whole series .... keep up the great work
Cheers Coach!
Couldn’t you just ask Dad? 😂😂.
Larry won't remember he's too laid back and he just drove it........🤣🤣No seriously though, it was really new kit at the time so Latty was probably more race focused than worrying about new tech.
@@davidvincent2838 totally agree
Never thought of that 🤔
@@perkinsengineering I know you did Jack, was tongue in cheek
Cool thanks mate
You're welcome, cheers!
