Acts 2:23 "this Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men." I took a promotion last year that - on the surface - was exactly what I wanted in the industry I have been employed in for the last nearly 5 years. Taking the job involved moving a few hundred miles away from home, having a family member move into our house, and effectively start over in this new area. Nothing went right: my truck was broken into and totaled by my insurance, I had emergency surgery on my daughter's 18th birthday, my family member backed out of renting our house, then the attempt to sell it quickly fell through. On top of all of that, the job was a nightmare and no training I had received prior to taking it could have prepared me for what I was getting into. We took on over $10k in debt to move over there only to move back in even more debt. God put the pieces in place for our return home to be relatively seemless, but there is still a lot of work to do and a lot of stress to overcome. Just praying to keep my head up through it all.

My high school boyfriend lived his adult life as a bitter and hardened man, full of hurt from his parents (mom specifically). He was diagnosed with kidney failure a couple of years ago. Bad got worse and he basically lost everything and had to move in with a friend and his wife. This friend is a preacher. The last I heard from my friend was January 9 that he was planning to be baptized because he had trusted the Lord for salvation. He never did get to be baptized. He passed away on January 25. It's easy to be philosophical and say we want people to be brought to salvation no matter what it takes. It is hard to see it happen in such a dramatic way, especially when you don't get to say goodbye. But praise God that he did not waste the last days of his life running from the Lord.

    • @chrisjohnson9542
      @chrisjohnson9542 24 дня назад +1

@@sbag11 that is actually not correct. I think you may just be confused about what calvinists actually believe. If you are listening to Leighton Flowers and Jason Breda and others with the provisionist label then that is going to be the case because they don't understand what calvinism actually is saying. Also provisionism theology is not just saying that God provides. Every Christian believes that. What provisionism teaches is that God provides every individual with the capacity and ability to believe of their own innate power that they are born with. That is what provisionism means and it's unbiblical. Would love to discuss with you more if you are willing or interested. I just want to let you know that I believe provisionists are true brothers in Christ. As long as they are trusting in the finished work of Christ. But there are some issues with the view that are problematic. Leighton tends more and more towards pelagianism and open theism and Jason Breda is also having some real huge problems with his theology. We calvinists can often not be very gracious in the way we handle online conversations. We are passionate but sometimes get over zealous and don't communicate properly. However, predestination and election are true and there's a lot of misunderstanding and false teaching on the subject online. It leads people to think calvinism is determinism and lots of other wrong assumptions. A really helpful way to understand what we believe is just to sit down and read the 1689 London Baptist Confession and the Heidelberg catechism. Those sum up the teaching of scripture very well and give a very good and helpful concise understanding of what calvinism actually teaches. I would encourage you to read those confessions so you can deal honestly with the subject. Then at least if you don't agree with it you will be able to engage with what we are actually saying as opposed to strawman arguments like Leighton makes.
      Much love and grace ,
      Chris

I’m confused about the use of terms. Providence is God’s providing for all his creation - which much I agreed with.
But what happened to sovereignty? The rule, reign, and kingliness of the Lord was absent. In the beginning there was some mention of God’s “directing all things” - which is yes and no. I was glad free will wasn’t mentioned (as it often is wrong asserted we have a free will and not a bound will).
Though God “allows”, He doesn’t direct all things He “allows”. Rather, like a father who warns “don’t eat soap”, but then “allows” the child to learn the hard way only to help the child afterwards, so what God “allows” He does always under His loving and watchful care.
Under sovereignty, some fall into the despair of double predestination - some destined for salvation, others destined for damnation - all by order of the “king” rather than verdict as “judge”.
So, I’m still confused on how people talk of sovereignty with songs repeating “He reigns”, “the King” - all without context or substance.

Except God Himself says He does/creates evil in scripture. I mean He does things we'd see as evil, but who's going to hold Him accountable for it? Nobody.
    Isaiah 45
"5 I am the Lord, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me:
6 That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the Lord, and there is none else.
7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things."
    Jeremiah 18
"5 Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
6 O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the Lord. Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.
    7 At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it;
8 If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them."
So God knows that the things He'd do to a sinful nation are evil to us, and would do them, but it's to His own creations, which cannot hold Him accountable, it doesn't matter if we perceive these things ad evil

I think the point is that God is sovereign over both “cause” and “permitted” and living under that reality informs our response. Lest we may think God is absent when someone sins against us “permitted” or think that He is absent when something is “caused.”
Often there is sin in our own lives which I think spans the realm of both “cause” and “permitted.” God being sovereign over both fuels the response to be thankful joy-filled repentance and refuge in Him. I think it’d be helpful to think and meditate on whatever is happening is “cause” or “permitted.”
For instance, in His providence He may “permit” you to sin such as watching RUclips videos to the neglect of your current ministerial responsibilities. Then cause you to feel the consequences of your sin, both relationally to those around you and inwardly between you and Him. The purpose is to bring you to greater hunger and thirst for Him and His grace, kindness, holiness, and righteousness more than that RUclips pleasure. Rather know the pleasure that He provides and be glad in it!
Anyway, His wisdom and sovereignty always work for His glory and the good of His elect! This video has been a great and encouraging reminder that my God is faithfully working sanctification in me, an undeserving sinner. I hope the reality of His sovereignty has been comforting to you too.
      Does this make sense?

    • @phieble
      @phieble 25 дней назад +1

"Caused," as it relates to God's sovereignty, means that God directly moved in people's hearts, animals, or the forces of nature to bring about his will. For instance, God caused Cyrus to look favorably upon the Israelites to decree that they return to Jerusalem while in exile, and earlier God caused Nebuchadnezzar to be humbled so that he would repent and give him praise.
"Permitted," as it relates to God's sovereignty, means that God allowed evil spirits to influence the hearts of men, and sometimes animals, to bring about God's will. For instance, God permitted the evil spirits to possess pigs when Jesus had rebuked them and sent them out of a man they had previously possessed, so then the pigs killed themselves. Most crucially, God permitted Satan to enter Judas Iscariot so he would fulfill the prophecy of betraying Jesus so that sinners would be saved.

Numerous times God declares that something is going to happen because He is the One Who would do it, even though the act (sometimes sinful) is clearly carried out by man. See Numbers 14.26-35; II Sam. 12.11-12 & 16.20-23; I Kings 11.11-13, 31, 34-39; 12.15,24; II Kings 19.7; Isa. 19.1-4; 34.5-7; 37. 26-29; 43.16-17, 44.24-28; 46.8-11; Jer. 5.14-19; 13.13-14; 15.3; 30.12-15; 32.42; 33.5; Ezek. 21.31; Hab. 1.5-6; Zech. 8.10.
To use the words to "permit" or "allow" to describe the activity of God displayed in these verses mentioned above (in which He Himself often claims to be the One doing these things) is, at best, a serious weakening of the truths being presented by these verses, and, at worst, a calculated denial of the sovereignty of God. John Calvin, stated a similar truth in his Institutes of the Christian Religion (1989, Eerdmans. p. 267) when he stated:
In like manner, what is said of permission is too weak to stand. God is very often said to blind and harden the reprobate, to turn their hearts, to incline and impel them.... The extent of this agency can never be explained by having recourse to prescience or permission.
Further, to understand all of these verses regarding the sovereignty of God in terms of "permission" is to change the meaning of countless verses to meet one's own theological position and to interject an idea into each text that is simply not found in that text.
It has not been my intention to make God seem cold and hard, or to charge God with evil, for the abundant testimony of scripture is that God is a holy, loving, merciful God. However, this being true does not give one the right to ignore the abundant witness of the scriptures to the fact that this holy, loving and merciful God is actively and intimately working all things after the counsel of His own will, even sin and wickedness, and is yet without sin (Ps. 145.17) in so doing. Just because we do not understand this does not mean it is not true.

John Calvin didn't teach this squishy "permits" thing. He taught God caused Adam to fall on purpose, and that the evil were made that way by God.
"The human mind, when it hears this doctrine, cannot restrain its petulance, but boils and rages as if aroused by the sound of a trumpet. Many professing a desire to defend the Deity from an invidious charge admit the doctrine of election, but deny that any one is reprobated. This they do ignorantly and childishly since there could be no election without its opposite reprobation. God is said to set apart those whom he adopts for salvation. It were most absurd to say, that he admits others fortuitously, or that they by their industry acquire what election alone confers on a few. Those, therefore, whom God passes by he reprobates, and that for no other cause but because he is pleased to exclude them from the inheritance which he predestines to his children. Nor is it possible to tolerate the petulance of men, in refusing to be restrained by the word of God, in regard to his incomprehensible counsel, which even angels adore. We have already been told that hardening is not less under the immediate hand of God than mercy. Paul does not, after the example of those whom I have mentioned, labour anxiously to defend God, by calling in the aid of falsehood; he only reminds us that it is unlawful for the creature to quarrel with its Creator." - John Calvin

Yeah, I don't think that's Biblical. Otherwise, how could God bring about all that He would desire? If He merely looks into the future and 'permits' the thing, He only allows it rather than brings it about. But what does Isaiah say? In Isaiah 10 God says that He WI bring about judgment upon Israel through the Assyrians. Is He merely allowing this or does He providentially bring about their judgment? I would argue that He brought it about for two reasons. One, the specific language used ie wielding the Assyrians as an axe. And two, because if He didn't providentially bring it about, He is unable to judge Israel when He chooses to judge Israel. So the evil MUST be ordained. Does that mean God is the author of evil then? No. See Genesis 50:20

Both categories bring about God's will, but God never directly moves in the hearts of men to make them sin. He sends evil spirits on assignment to influence men's hearts to sin, oftentimes phrased as hardening hearts, so that the aspects of his plan that include evil are not his doing and they are always dealt with by him in either justice or grace and mercy.

Falling headfirst there, his body split open, spilling out all his intestines. 19) The news of his death spread to all the people of Jerusalem, and they gave the place the Aramaic name Akeldama, which means “Field of Blood.”) 20) Peter continued, “This was written in the book of Psalms, where it says, ‘Let his home become desolate, with no one living in it.’ It also says, ‘Let someone else take his position.’

You think God needs to allow evil spirits to work in order for men to do wickedly? Interesting

Evil spirits were created by God in a state of moral goodness, then God allowed them to turn evil for his purposes within world history and they need his permission to do all evil works and he has the power to stop them should they try to do anything contrary to his plan. God governs all things according to his will and nothing can happen that is contrary to his plan / purposes.
Proverbs 16:4 - The LORD has made everything for his own purposes, even the wicked for a day of disaster.
1 Kings 22:19-23 - 19) Then Micaiah continued, “Listen to what the LORD says! I saw the LORD sitting on his throne with all the armies of heaven around him, on his right and on his left. 20) And the LORD said, ‘Who can entice Ahab to go into battle against Ramoth-gilead so he can be killed?’ “There were many suggestions, 21) and finally a spirit approached the LORD and said, ‘I can do it!’ The LORD asked, 22) “‘How will you do this?’ “And the spirit replied, ‘I will go out and inspire all of Ahab’s prophets to speak lies.’ The LORD said, “‘You will succeed. Go ahead and do it.’ 23) “So you see, the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouths of all your prophets. For the LORD has pronounced your doom.”

@AboveReproachPodcast we do wicked things because it's in our nature. And yes, God, either allows evil to occur or God causes it.

God didn't see it happening in to the future he decreed it, You view of God's sovereignty is weak. Also God is not temporal , within time as we are. The Creator does not pereceive the universe as exisiting in past, present and future as we do because is not withitn time at all. Time began when he said "let there be light" and will end when he ends this sin cursed creation. Goats do not become sheep. If God is saving someone they are lost sheep not goats. Your chart is too limted based on an inadequat view of God's sovereignty. God is not "trying" anything.
“If there is one maverick molecule in all the universe, then God is not sovereign. And if God is not sovereign, He is not God.”
    -- R. C. Sproul
"This is the most dangerous trial of all, when there is no trial and every thing goes well; for then a man is tempted to forget God, to become too bold and to misuse times of prosperity."
    -- Martin Luther

R.C. Sproul also said this, which is contrary to Scripture:
"AFTER a person is *regenerated* , that person cooperates by exercising *faith and trust* . But the first step is of God and God alone. The reason we do not cooperate with regenerating grace before it acts upon us and in us is because we cannot."
      -R.C. Sproul
🔸Titus 3:5 and 1 Corinthians 1:21 alone contradict the idea that a person exercises faith AFTER being regenerated.

Dang man, chill out. Are you on team Jesus or no? Truly I think you actually agree with him in all of his points. Y’all are saying the same thing. My only question for you is do you agree with the “cause and permit” part of his argument? Logically you have to since scripture says that God tempts no one. I love your zeal. Will you please go yell at a Mormon or JW?🙂🙏🏽

The main issue with you hyper Calvinists is that you’re not even aware that you are putting so many conditions on what God may or not do before violating his sovereignty that you actually violate his sovereignty by declaring that He is then limited by what He may do. A sovereign God has no limitations and may do things like ALLOW one to go their own way. Calvinism truly is a view through the narrowest of lenses.

There is a huge effort to prop up Calvinism. Certainly there are great scriptures to use. However there are other scriptures that talk about our "free will" to choose. Nobody wants to synthesize these two seemingly opposites. You either gotta join one camp or the other. Sound familiar? Pure Calvinism is a total turn-off to anyone with a brain. So there's that. Yet the theologians stuck in the 1500's "endeavor to persevere." Anyway... I don't have any issues with the "God knows everything in advance" scriptures... but I am also impacted by the "whosoever will" scriptures.

Certainly not "full blown" Calvinist, but I've yet to figure out what the "turn off" is yet. I've found the 'free-will" debate to be quite tedious, especially if that "free-will" leads you outside of God's will. A little addition, I've been resting a lot in one of most well know Psalms. "The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in in green pastures, He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His names sake. Yes, thought I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff they comfort me."
Yeah, I'm fine with the message of this video...

I came quite close to being swayed by salvation through election. However, quite a few years ago, I earnestly prayed to be shown the difference between only what is true ( at any given time, place and circumstances) and the Truth! (what is eternal, doesn’t change and never fails) Obviously, Jesus IS TRUTH! The things written in God’s word seem to be up for interpretation. But, He means it one way and only one way; HIS WAY! Some things have been more easily apprehended than others. Election salvation is one of those. It would take an hour or more to explain how I was shown to discern the Truth, but one of the big things was when He had me go back and look at the lives of the men who started it all. The things I found were alarming and rang gongs in my head. Their belief ( it was Luther and Calvin I found out) had anti biblical principles as some of their foundations. If they could screw up something as simple as the lies of replacement theology, they could be completely wrong about others. ( if you believe in replacement theology, you’ve got bigger problems than Calvinism!) Belief in a man made denomination is not a good thing. First, Man Made? When did man ever do completely correct before God? It’s time to let go of the rules and regulations (and some heresies) made by man and search out the source, the word of God. Until you do that, you’ll be spinning your wheels in the mud.
