My dad was born in 1911--a young man during the '29 Depression. He married my mom after his obligation to WW II was finished. He could have been a grandfather by then. In my early 20s, when I knew everything, he used to shake his finger at me and say, "You wait, there'll be another 1929 and it'll make '29 look like a cakewalk." I now know my dad was a genius.

My mom taught me and my 2 sisters how to do it too. Pray for New Orleans. Crowd jammed by truck, 10 dead, 30 hurt. New Years Eve.
In 1974, I was a newlywed and we lived 40 miles from town, no TV, mail just 3 times a week, closest neighbor was 6 miles away, no telephone, so pretty isolated.. I kept having this dream night after night where I saw long food lines, people were out of work, banks were closing, and the message was we were in a Worldwide Recession.. Get your bills paid and don't go into debt!
We NEED a MAJOR Total Repentance all across our country!! Supposedly 68% of Americans consider themselves "christian". YET, the majority of Americans are now willing to accept, and even support and embrace all manner of evil that the Lord God Almighty calls sin!! Only a truly repentant heart can experience Revival with the Lord God Almighty and His Son, Jesus Christ.
I think that's got to begin with the Body of Christ. Until we get rid of the woke Pastors, and stop the craziness among our own, we are NOT a good witness to the Nation... I pray revival comes, and I'm sure once most people are without basic needs, they will turn to the Lord. Let's Pray it happens, and we don't need to go thru another depression to open people's eyes!

I’m so grateful I found my little homestead in Aug. I was able to become completely debt free in 2024, I didn’t think it was possible when I lost my husband in early 2023. But I did it some how, my home isn’t perfect, it isn’t brand new like the apartment I had, but it isn’t costing me 2,300 a month for nothing to show for it, it’s paid off, so I just have my electric and water bill, and taxes each year. I’m so grateful for people like you that help
Trump was talking about a depression months ago during his campaign and some of us thank god have listened. He warned it wasn't going to get better over night either. We retired a year ago and sooooooooo glad we've filled the pantry and have no debt, but as prices of electric, insurance etc keep going up it gets tighter. My precious grandmother was a widow with a small child during the great depression! She hired on as a live-in 'do whatever needed doing' employee of a doctor and his wife. I remember her telling me the only protein they had was from eggs their few chickens provided. The doctor had told her she could keep them alive as long as they gave eggs but once they stopped laying, they had to go in the pot. She cried when the last one was cooked because all that was left for them to survive on was turnips - and she hated turnips! I remember her smile as she told me - "honey, trust me when I tell you, you can learn to love the taste of anything because I truly learned to love those turnips"! Thanks Patara!

I hope my 1st moments of 2025 do not reflect the tone of the year, but it sounds like that may be true. The house behind me has at least 2 families of Cuban immigrants- legal or not I don’t know, but they fired up a giant firework behind my house at 12. It startled us awake. We haven’t had rain in a long time. It is illegal and thankfully the police came and it stopped them from firing off more of them. I had about 2 hrs of sleep from being startled awake. I’ve been preparing food, water, garden, house paid off, but on retirement with part time job I don’t have much money saved up! I will continue trying to prepare. You’ve been such a help motivating me to prepare. Thank you! We are living in a time that makes you seriously question your sanity. I keep looking to the sky for the 2nd coming of Jesus. Come Jesus! Come!
We had several neighbors light fireworks through all hours of the night last night and the night before. I'm sure we'll hear them tonight. Several of them were very obviously illegal fireworks. I'm unsure what you intended by stating that they are Cuban, but all 4 of the families shooting off illegal fireworks where white non immigrants.
Thank you, Patara, for taking the time to connect us during such a busy time. My grandfather owned a business, a gas station, during the great depression up until the 70s. He was also a mechanic. He and my grandmother and my parents, who were both born in the very early 30s, always talked about the depression lasting a full 10 years for them. My grandparents on my father's side always said the same. They were all in Newbury Mass. I clearly remember my grandfather yelling at the news that they (the politicians) were trying to drive us right into another depression. This was something he did almost nightly. If he had been alive during the last 4 years, I guarantee that yelling would have turned to pure fury and it would have been followed by "I told you so."
Dad was born in 1930 and grew up during the depression in the mountains of West Virginia. He caught polio at age five. That left him with one leg half an inch shorter than the other and blind in one eye. He never let it slow him down nor deter him. He was the toughest man I ever knew.

Had chili yesterday here in the Cedar Bluff area (IYKYK) and only have a small container of leftovers to have with lunch today. While others were watching for the ball to drop in Times Square, I stayed home and watched the local temperature drop. I’m grateful for my cozy home. Depression or not, I’m looking for life to improve in the new year. I’ve been blessed by God and by my ancestors who endured the real depression and made my life so much better. My Dad was born in 1925 and my Mother in 1929. Their large families were farmers and sharecroppers in rural TN. All the children worked, the boys either in the fields and the girls in the garden and home. They were raised to know how to survive during those times. They taught me through example to be frugal, fix things that were broken to be reused and how to be self sufficient. I thank God for my Mama and Daddy every day. I may not be 100% prepared but I’ve done my best I love your channel.

A 1929 depression is a scary thought. When probably half the people in this country get some kind of governmental assistance, including some of mine, what happens when that's gone? They gripe when told to prep that their food stamps don't go that far. Almost 70, I could probably live years on what i've prepped, but I end up sharing with somebody. Thankful that i can!
Went to Aldi the other day, bought squash, zucchini, brussel sprouts, sweet onions, little yellow potatoes 2 bags, a bix of graham crackers, and shelled pistachios....was over $35. It should be half that. Fixed income due to hubby's disability. We've had to use credit cards too. I despise them. Our #2 son began listening to Going Home by A. American, and he has a sense of urgency to prep again. He wants us tobgo back to the food drives. All we can do is pray and prep. Thanks for all you do Patara! Have a Blessed New Year.

Amen. I grew up next door to my grandparents, a great-grandmother, and 4 great-uncles. They'd come through the Depression and war years but still lived simply, by choice rather than necessity. They were the biggest influences on my childhood, and I'm grateful for that every day.
I would like to offer our deepest condolences to the bereaved families of the atrocious incident in New Orleans. My Husband and I often watch the live webcam in the French Quarter as we find it a very vibrant and lively place. However, what we saw today there upset us very much. Those poor people just out celebrating the New Year, doing no harm to anyone, just mowed down for no reason. It beggars belief that anyone would be capable of committing such an atrocity, but they can and have done several times in the UK. Our hearts go out to their families and they're included in our daily prayers. May God draw close to you all and heal your broken hearts xx😢🙏

Happy New Year to you & James "the hunk" 🤣...I'm 74yo and my mom was a single mom & did the best she could for me & my brother, this was in late 50's early 60's....she worked as a bookkeeper & at times it was very tough, thankfully we moved in with my grandmother in a 2BR/1BTH, less than 1000sf house but we were safe & warm & had a roof over our heads...no govt assistance or anything else...my Italian grandmother did all the cooking bc my mom tried to pick up side work where she could....boy could she stretch a $$$, but still it's wasn't enough...I can remember some nights we had only buttered noodles, for supper but it filled our bellies...not a big yard but she planted as much as she could, meat was only once a week...I learned a lot from her....in the 70's when I became a single mom with 2 kids myself with little help from the Ex I relied on my grandmother's frugal skills to get thru everything, sometimes only $20 for 2 weeks groceries....now as a senior on a very limited pension I've relied on sales, etc & when I do I always buy xtra to build up for lean times.
My wife volunteers st Harvesters(mid-west agency). They distribute food to small towns once a month. The food is donated by different companies(some of the food might have a current expiration date). My wife has noticed that the food is becoming less quality and quantity, but the people lined up to get the food is growing. It is hard times for everyone.

The last 10 months I have invested a lot time into learning how to cook from scratch, simplify my meals, make them healthier, cost less (ale take away my financial waste), and more filling at the same time. All on cast iron pans we bought this year. This weeks project is to take all my receipts I created and learned that my household loves and turn them into a household cookbook. Trying to prepare for this 1929 like economy, deit, and eating/shopping habits.

Good evening sweet friend ♥ I completely agree with you on the future. Last year we bought a house on a little property sight unseen for cash. We are mortgage free and debt free. My husband just had his appt with the VA to get his rating for service. His Dr thinks he will get 100% which means he will not have to pay a property tax, no car tabs, free fishing license for him etc. He will also qualify for home improvements like solar for our home. We saw the writing on the wall back in 2020 and began our journey. Many of our family and friends thought we were crazy. We live below the poverty level but we are richer in life than most people. Luckily I have a very physical job as a custodian I essentially work out 5 days a week for 7 hrs a day and after my morning coffee with my creamer(the one thing I allow that is “bad”) it’s water for the rest of the day. Im loosing weight and feeling a lot better. I’m also going to start juicing I’m in Michigan yet already getting my garden planned out on paper of course. I’ll start seeds in feb-March depending on what they are. My husband bought me a food saver for Christmas so I’m going to have fun with that to help put things back. Next purchase is a new dehydrator. Happy new year to you your family and your farm.

Just got back from Florida. In TN we got off of 75 and took some back roads nice and slow though Appalachia. Beautiful. Stopped at a lot of small store and gas stations and talked to lot of great friendly people.
Happy new years everyone. I am a cna and am working tonight. The last week I have been buying extra to try to get ahead for the new year. I have my saurkraut in the crockpot with pork. So I am going home after work, take my pup out, put my chickens out, make breakfast and then sleep for a couple of hours then get up and get things done. Life is going to go on for me. Just going to live one day at a time.
Telling the truth, talking about the truth is good for everyone. We need to prepare for the next 2 years at least. Get right with God and take deep breaths. We will get through this, the lessons learned are awesome.

One year at work I worked with a lot of men. Another female and I decided to make traditional foods for New Years. It was the North versus the south. We made so much food and the men were so excited. We had so much fun!
I have more debt than I want, mostly medical (having a baby, and a medically fragile one at that is not cheap) and while I am working to do what I can to prepare, I know ultimately God will see us through, and even if He doesn't we'll praise Him. I totally agree with you, and have been preparing mostly for a depression for 10 years. What I think is that this depression will be so different from the 30's because far more people are urban, and don't have a family history of frugal living, gardening or food preservation, and working whatever jobs you can get to help your family survive (kids and adults). We as a people are far less resourceful and creative, and haven't a clue where food comes from or even the honor and sacrifice it takes to live and thrive as a family. My Mom is 103, but sailed through the depression comfortably. Even though my PopPop was well off, he had a large garden and lived in a small town. My grown children are capable and raising fine children in a small farming town, and are making sure they have a variety of skills and how to build community. Thanks, Patara!

A lot of us already know do we have been living in a depression for a while. And we have been trying to tell everyone we know that things are not going to get better anytime soon. I believe President Trump has said out loud what's going on so that more people will actually sit up and pay attention. I’m so grateful I found my little homestead in Aug. I was able to become completely debt free in 2024, I didn’t think it was possible when I lost my husband in early 2023. But I did it some how, my home isn’t perfect, it isn’t brand new like the apartment I had, but it isn’t costing me 2,300 a month for nothing to show for it, it’s paid off, so I just have my electric and water bill, and taxes each year. I’m so grateful for people like you that help

Trump was talking about a depression months ago during his campaign and some of us thank god have listened. He warned it wasn't going to get better over night either. We retired a year ago and sooooooooo glad we've filled the pantry and have no debt, but as prices of electric, insurance etc keep going up it gets tighter. My precious grandmother was a widow with a small child during the great depression! She hired on as a live-in 'do whatever needed doing' employee of a doctor and his wife. I remember her telling me the only protein they had was from eggs their few chickens provided. The doctor had told her she could keep them alive as long as they gave eggs but once they stopped laying, they had to go in the pot. She cried when the last one was cooked because all that was left for them to survive on was turnips - and she hated turnips! I remember her smile as she told me - "honey, trust me when I tell you, you can learn to love the taste of anything because I truly learned to love those turnips"! Thanks Patara!

I hope my 1st moments of 2025 do not reflect the tone of the year, but it sounds like that may be true. The house behind me has at least 2 families of Cuban immigrants- legal or not I don’t know, but they fired up a giant firework behind my house at 12. It startled us awake. We haven’t had rain in a long time. It is illegal and thankfully the police came and it stopped them from firing off more of them. I had about 2 hrs of sleep from being startled awake.
I’ve been preparing food, water, garden, house paid off, but on retirement with part time job I don’t have much money saved up! I will continue trying to prepare. You’ve been such a help motivating me to prepare. Thank you! We are living in a time that makes you seriously question your sanity. I keep looking to the sky for the 2nd coming of Jesus. Come Jesus! Come!

We had several neighbors light fireworks through all hours of the night last night and the night before. I'm sure we'll hear them tonight. Several of them were very obviously illegal fireworks. I'm unsure what you intended by stating that they are Cuban, but all 4 of the families shooting off illegal fireworks where white non immigrants.
Thank you, Patara, for taking the time to connect us during such a busy time. My grandfather owned a business, a gas station, during the great depression up until the 70s. He was also a mechanic. He and my grandmother and my parents, who were both born in the very early 30s, always talked about the depression lasting a full 10 years for them. My grandparents on my father's side always said the same. They were all in Newbury Mass. I clearly remember my grandfather yelling at the news that they (the politicians) were trying to drive us right into another depression. This was something he did almost nightly. If he had been alive during the last 4 years, I guarantee that yelling would have turned to pure fury and it would have been followed by "I told you so."

Dad was born in 1930 and grew up during the depression in the mountains of West Virginia. He caught polio at age five. That left him with one leg half an inch shorter than the other and blind in one eye. He never let it slow him down nor deter him. He was the toughest man I ever knew.

Had chili yesterday here in the Cedar Bluff area (IYKYK) and only have a small container of leftovers to have with lunch today. While others were watching for the ball to drop in Times Square, I stayed home and watched the local temperature drop. I’m grateful for my cozy home. Depression or not, I’m looking for life to improve in the new year. I’ve been blessed by God and by my ancestors who endured the real depression and made my life so much better. My Dad was born in 1925 and my Mother in 1929. Their large families were farmers and sharecroppers in rural TN. All the children worked, the boys either in the fields and the girls in the garden and home. They were raised to know how to survive during those times. They taught me through example to be frugal, fix things that were broken to be reused and how to be self sufficient. I thank God for my Mama and Daddy every day. I may not be 100% prepared but I’ve done my best I love your channel.

A 1929 depression is a scary thought. When probably half the people in this country get some kind of governmental assistance, including some of mine, what happens when that's gone? They gripe when told to prep that their food stamps don't go that far. Almost 70, I could probably live years on what i've prepped, but I end up sharing with somebody. Thankful that i can!
Went to Aldi the other day, bought squash, zucchini, brussel sprouts, sweet onions, little yellow potatoes 2 bags, a bix of graham crackers, and shelled pistachios....was over $35. It should be half that. Fixed income due to hubby's disability. We've had to use credit cards too. I despise them. Our #2 son began listening to Going Home by A. American, and he has a sense of urgency to prep again. He wants us tobgo back to the food drives. All we can do is pray and prep. Thanks for all you do Patara! Have a Blessed New Year.

Amen. I grew up next door to my grandparents, a great-grandmother, and 4 great-uncles. They'd come through the Depression and war years but still lived simply, by choice rather than necessity. They were the biggest influences on my childhood, and I'm grateful for that every day.

I would like to offer our deepest condolences to the bereaved families of the atrocious incident in New Orleans. My Husband and I often watch the live webcam in the French Quarter as we find it a very vibrant and lively place. However, what we saw today there upset us very much. Those poor people just out celebrating the New Year, doing no harm to anyone, just mowed down for no reason. It beggars belief that anyone would be capable of committing such an atrocity, but they can and have done several times in the UK. Our hearts go out to their families and they're included in our daily prayers. May God draw close to you all and heal your broken hearts xx😢🙏

Happy New Year to you & James "the hunk" 🤣...I'm 74yo and my mom was a single mom & did the best she could for me & my brother, this was in late 50's early 60's....she worked as a bookkeeper & at times it was very tough, thankfully we moved in with my grandmother in a 2BR/1BTH, less than 1000sf house but we were safe & warm & had a roof over our heads...no govt assistance or anything else...my Italian grandmother did all the cooking bc my mom tried to pick up side work where she could....boy could she stretch a $$$, but still it's wasn't enough...I can remember some nights we had only buttered noodles, for supper but it filled our bellies...not a big yard but she planted as much as she could, meat was only once a week...I learned a lot from her....in the 70's when I became a single mom with 2 kids myself with little help from the Ex I relied on my grandmother's frugal skills to get thru everything, sometimes only $20 for 2 weeks groceries....now as a senior on a very limited pension I've relied on sales, etc & when I do I always buy xtra to build up for lean times.

My wife volunteers st Harvesters(mid-west agency). They distribute food to small towns once a month. The food is donated by different companies(some of the food might have a current expiration date). My wife has noticed that the food is becoming less quality and quantity, but the people lined up to get the food is growing. It is hard times for everyone.

The last 10 months I have invested a lot time into learning how to cook from scratch, simplify my meals, make them healthier, cost less (ale take away my financial waste), and more filling at the same time. All on cast iron pans we bought this year. This weeks project is to take all my receipts I created and learned that my household loves and turn them into a household cookbook. Trying to prepare for this 1929 like economy, deit, and eating/shopping habits.

Good evening sweet friend ♥ I completely agree with you on the future. Last year we bought a house on a little property sight unseen for cash. We are mortgage free and debt free. My husband just had his appt with the VA to get his rating for service. His Dr thinks he will get 100% which means he will not have to pay a property tax, no car tabs, free fishing license for him etc. He will also qualify for home improvements like solar for our home.
We saw the writing on the wall back in 2020 and began our journey. Many of our family and friends thought we were crazy. We live below the poverty level but we are richer in life than most people. Exodus 14:14

Luckily I have a very physical job as a custodian I essentially work out 5 days a week for 7 hrs a day and after my morning coffee with my creamer(the one thing I allow that is “bad”) it’s water for the rest of the day. Im loosing weight and feeling a lot better. I’m also going to start juicing
I’m in Michigan yet already getting my garden planned out on paper of course. I’ll start seeds in feb-March depending on what they are.
My husband bought me a food saver for Christmas so I’m going to have fun with that to help put things back. Next purchase is a new dehydrator. Happy new year to you your family and your farm.

Just got back from Florida. In TN we got off of 75 and took some back roads nice and slow though Appalachia. Beautiful. Stopped at a lot of small store and gas stations and talked to lot of great friendly people.
Happy new years everyone. I am a cna and am working tonight. The last week I have been buying extra to try to get ahead for the new year. I have my saurkraut in the crockpot with pork. So I am going home after work, take my pup out, put my chickens out, make breakfast and then sleep for a couple of hours then get up and get things done. Life is going to go on for me. Just going to live one day at a time.
Telling the truth, talking about the truth is good for everyone. We need to prepare for the next 2 years at least. Get right with God and take deep breaths. We will get through this, the lessons learned are awesome.

Thank you Lord! My Dad always talked about the 1929 depression and told me he wouldn't see the next one but I would and it will be worse and would last for at least 30 years.

I totally agree with you, and have been preparing mostly for a depression for 10 years. What I think is that this depression will be so different from the 30's because far more people are urban, and don't have a family history of frugal living, gardening or food preservation, and working whatever jobs you can get to help your family survive (kids and adults). We as a people are far less resourceful and creative, and haven't a clue where food comes from or even the honor and sacrifice it takes to live and thrive as a family. My Mom is 103, but sailed through the depression comfortably. Even though my PopPop was well off, he had a large garden and lived in a small town. My grown children are capable and raising fine children in a small farming town, and are making sure they have a variety of skills and how to build community. Thanks, Patara!
