the "don't always play matches" advice is honestly so insightful, i definitely have felt this foreboding sense even going into a match for the first time in a day where it just didn't feel like i was going to learn anything from the match, to say nothing of how droney things get after a 10-20 match set or whatever

All very sound tips, you had me immediately at rhythmn games as someone who's played IIDX, Pop'n, DJMax, and others for over a decade.
They're the main reason using macros on pad feels less comfortable than manually inputting to me, along with my uncontrollable urge to try and IB everything under the sun.

10:50 "is a 30 frame overhead unreactable? Maybe to a BABY" 😂 The delivery on this killed me

I really like this video because most of these tips are things we all had the root idea of using, but didn't have the full understanding of why. I definitely knoe the reason why I would follow these ideas now.
On the idea of playing rhythm games to help improve, been playing Osu! and Osu! Mania much more to help recently. Even though I'm playing more league recently rather than fighting games.

Literally never listen to what people say. All the worst shit I've had to get over in this genre is stuff I heard from idiots I didn't know were idiots yet. Until you can understand internally that every single thing you see is contextual, and that part of the context is that most people are bad at fighting games, just don't listen to them in the first place.
I count myself as an idiot here, so whether this post is good advice is your call.
Edit - I find high level rhythm gamers to be absolutely ludicrous with how they can process things. Godlike.

As someone who has played rhythm games for a rly long time i could not agree more with the first tip lol, execution rly isn't much of a barrier for me when i pickup characters, which i always felt was likely because of my skill in rhythm games.

Do mobile rhythm games count like Cytus?

I actually did like cytus a lot, I think the difficulty top end is not super crazy but its still great for keeping your eyes sharp, imo. Doubly useful cause it's mobile lol

What are some challenging rhythm games do you recommend on console?

The console go-to is definitely dj max respect, imo. Most of the other solid rhythm games are all on other platforms lolol.

For PS4 DJMax respect like SKD already said, and another good one is project diva future tone if you buy the bundle of future sound and colorful tone to have well over 200 songs.
