      My husband is the guy that takes our 32' rig to places I always freak out about! We always get great boondocking spots while I'm constantly saying "Scott! We can't do this!!!" I have gotten out of the camper many many times and prayed my face off lol. I'd never recommend anyone else to do it, that's for sure!
      Okay, I'm going to stop now cuz I could respond to every last thing, but it would on be positive feedback. You guys have done an excellent review. Thanks for sharing your journey, I loved it. When we were up there in 2019, we would go to Fred Meyers and Walmart. A green, wrinkled green pepper was 3.50 and it was grown in the state. So apparently prices have dropped astronomically in these 5 years. Consider yourself lucky. You did not go the wrong way. You followed the exact way around Alaska we took so you are the rare traveler who is smarter than the average bear. You didn't get stuck behind 1500 RV's all going where you were going at the same time. I'm glad you enjoyed it. i watched your compatriots video last night and they concluded the trip was a one and done which was always my take. It has been fun watching you two on your trip. Rosie and I completed our last of three trips to Alaska last summer. Each time we left in early June and basically spent the summer travelling from Wisconsin. The first two trips were the best. The weather, the fishing and the roads were good. This last time not as great but still good. The roads were awful, the fishing wasn't good, the State parks were almost impassable because they had not graded the roads. Still it was Alaska so it was worth it. We have a Brinkley like your friends and it held up well. The first two times we had a Mountaineer, and then a Reflection. They did well also. A couple of my favorite thing were fly fishing for Arctic Greyling near Delta Jct. and Salmon fishing near Valdez. Watch our Grizzly bear video on Burlington Bill on You-Tube. It was shot near Kluane Lake in the Yukon. Anyway thanks for letting us view your adventure. Burlington Bill busking on the road and here on you tube. Rosie and I have been side by side travelling this and other countries for over 54 years.

    An hour of Open Roading! 🎉
    If you're ever back in the Homer area, water taxis will take you to some really great hikes only accessible by boat across the bay to Kachemak Bay State Park - Grace Ridge is an iconic one with really great views.
    As an added bonus, there are kelp forests in the bay that make really great habitat for sea otters, so it might increase the odds of seeing them up close. It's not unusual to come across sea otter rookeries in the area and the taxis will slow down a little bit for passengers to enjoy them :)

    Thank you for the very detailed & informative breakdown of your xpenditure, which all made sense. I’m still not convnced that stocking up some groceries beforehand was necessary - there may have been a price differential but actually you spent $$$$, just at a different time. And if you left Alaska with some of the items???? But in the end, wharever floats your boat (as we say in New Zealand!)

    • @OpenRoading
      @OpenRoading  9 часов назад +1

      Oh we would do it differently the next time around.
      We would stock up only on items that we know might be hard to find
      - Dairy free specific items
      - Protein powder
      - Anything that we are brand specific on
      Then we would only "stock up" enough on the rest for the amount of time for us to get to Anchorage and then stock up again until the next time we'd be in Anchorage or a bigger city in Canada.
      Because trust me...if you end up doing a normal grocery trip at a rural town in either Alaska or Canada...you will spend soooooo much more money.
      But yes! We would have split up the stock ups. -J

    Your Canadian prices must be from Southern part of BC or Alberta because the farther north in the provinces and the Yukon prices are closer to Alaska. Same with your fuel costs, Alberta tends to be the cheapest fuel in Canada due to all the oil and gas production in the province.

      Kalyn’s right.
      Flying over something and seeing it is completely irrelevant. Being in the airspace above any location doesn’t mean you entered that location. Even from a legal standpoint.
      In a court/legal situation, flying over, is not the same as stepping foot on the grounds.
