    ℹ️After spending the summer RVing Alaska, it’s finally time to head south. Wow, did the drive back seemed longer than the drive there! On our way to Alaska, we were filled with curiosity and each leg of the trip was part of the journey. From Mile “0” in Dawson Creek, Liard Hot Springs, crossing the border and arriving in Fairbanks to experience an 11pm sunset. The drive home, however, was just...long. We did decide to take the Cassiar Highway back so we could report if it’s worth it. In our opinion, it is better to take a different route home and the Cassiar Highway is easy driving due to the limited traffic, gorgeous views and wildlife. However, we pushed the envelope too much and ended getting a screw in our tire likely at Flying J looking for a place to dry camp. We ended up relocated to a Canadian Tire at 1am to make it easier to fix the next day.

    hey guys, i can assure you, as a Canadian, Canadian tire is a great place to get work done. however, the reason why they cant work or touch vehicles outside the garage is for liability reasons and the mechanics only come in around their starting time. Only the managers come in early to set up their day. I was on the road once and had an issue, told them i wasn't from around the parts, they catered to me and squeezed me in so that i could be on my way. But its case by case in whatever area you are in but in general an all round good place and they are everywhere.

    On Stopping To Help. 20+ years of RVing in the continental US, five breakdowns (VA, UT, WY, NV, SC) . Not one single person stopped to see if we needed help. No RV'ers, No Good Samaritan, No Law Enforcement and they "all" just pass on by. Our biggest disappointment was in Wyoming where we were down for 4 hours, walked 3 miles on I-80 (12 mi east of Evanston) to get cell reception; thousands of vehicles passed by (including 3 troopers/sheriffs). Only vehicle that stopped was the 2 wreckers that were dispatched. On that occasion, we were truly concerned for our safety, truck engine failure and it was August, extreme heat conditions, no cell reception, and high speed expressway where there was barely room to get out of the traffic lanes. I wrote letters to the State & County about the law enforcement vehicles that came by at 80 mph and kept right on going. Never received any reply. One year later, very similar situation in SC on I-95, broken axle on trailer. traffic didn't slow down or move over for recovery vehicle. Wrecker driver requested SC Trooper assistance, never showed up. No one offered any form of assistance. Sadly, we feel it is a sign of the times.

    Marc, you are so lucky to have such an amazing wife. You are really good at what you do but it is easy to see you have lots of support from Trish, she is such a character. I am sure you both have your "moments/melt downs". I know you have talked about them before where things don't go as planned but you guys reset and move on. I look forward to your weekly uploads, I think your weekly schedule is great as you get to show great content but these other RVers that are doing daily uploads don't have the same quality you guys do. I am a pretty regular viewer and comment often. Have you ever considered taking a week and doing just what the boys want to do? I would watch it.

    • @KeepYourDaydream
      @KeepYourDaydream  6 лет назад +13

      Thanks Barry. I agree. Daily or content several times per week means I would have to record more daily stuff. I know it's interesting (to some) but really not all that fun to record and edit. I think we'd get burned out faster. We like focusing on the destination and family and inspirational stuff when possible. If I left the recording up to the boys, they'd game all day! We'll see what we can come up with. Harder than it sounds!

    • @BRBTechTalk
      @BRBTechTalk 6 лет назад +1

      I understand, the boys seem pretty outgoing but that computer bubble is all consuming for them. I am not an RVer but I love the adventure and I have hopes of getting a class C and towing an off road rig, eventually to do some trips around Nevada, Arizona and Utah. 2013 & 2014 I went to Burning Man and fell in love with Nevada.

    • @danielramsay4594
      @danielramsay4594 6 лет назад +5

      Agreed, as a Canadian, I would only use Canadian Tire as an absolute last resort, Store side is great! But the vehicle service side was/is/always will be the worst for customer service and I question their quality of work as well. They asked me to park my car in their lot for up to five days to put on winter tires and said they will let me know when they can get to it. I said no way. it was the last time ever I stupidly considered using them. Kal Tire served you right all the way.
      Your videos are always so honest and true to live. Keep up the great work KYD Family!!!

They come in handy to mark our clearances when slides are out at CB or WMT overnight or to mark our GD Reflection 5er hitch after disconnecting from F-350. Use in parking lots, Harvest Hosts, so we don’t get blocked in. Spray painted (stencil) our initials on them. - Jersey Mike

    Lol yeah no Canadian Tire is crap, it's more of a Home/Outdoor Retail shop these days then a Tire/Car Maintenance place. Kaltire is the place to go! They actually started in my town of Vernon BC in the Okanagan, named after Kalamalka Lake :)

    Ya... don’t go to Canadian Tire for service... Canadians don’t even go there for service (I’m Canadian). Great place to pick up parts and fluids, or kitchen stuff, like a Walmart ... but don’t count on the mechanics. (There are a couple of really good Canadian Tire service centres, but they are typically in really small towns.. like ~15,000 pop.) You’re better off at a specialty shop like Kal Tire.

      Based only only references from Canadian RUclipsrs I guess I was 50 50 on whether or not they still sold tires. :-)
      But its my understanding they sell the same kind of stuff Harbor Freight Sells in the US. Even that it comes from the same over seas Manufacturer.

    • @Kitchguy
      @Kitchguy 6 лет назад

      Cliff Hartle Yes they still sell tires and anything car related as well as household, garden and outdoor products including RV. I’ve never been to Harbour freight.

    • @chartle1
      @chartle1 6 лет назад

      It appears to be just like Canadian Tire but mostly tools and a few household items but no tires, well they sell trailer and cart size tires on rims.
      I've bought lots of stuff there I think the largest a small wood lathe.
      There are a few Buy this don't buy this videos on RUclips for HF. I think I've seen the same for Canadian Tire.

    Hi Marc, an easy fix to your RV master window flapping in the wind...tie a thick rubber band around the handle. Doesn't impead its use, holds it firmly in the mount, doesn't leave a footprint (just replace the band with a new one if it breaks) and prevents the handle from ever sliding out of the frame. You guys make a great team, really enjoy your videos! Livin' the dream...

    We have the same window and to stop it opening I drilled a small hole through the arm into the metal below it and put a small nail in (make the hole larger than the nail so that the nail just sits in there and locks the window closed. I actually drilled a series of holes in the arm so I could 'lock' the window in a variety of open positions when we were overnighting somewhere.

    I'm Canadian and Canadian Tire is NOT my go to store unfortunately. We were just up in the NWT, YK, AK and bC ahead of you and went to Kal Tire 3 times for different Trailer/Truck tire fixes and they were very customer oriented. In Whitehorse, you can actually make and blow glass at Lumel Studios. We went once and had so much fun we booked and went a second time!

    I always travel with a tire plug kit. But with truck tires, it is a LOT more difficult to clean the hole in your tire and to push the tire plug in. One trick I found that works well is to use a medium wide screw and a cordless driver to help prep the tire hole. Also if you DIY it, you need to take the tire off. This helps with the leverage you'll need to repair the tire..

    Kal Tire was excellent for us. This year we travelled 5 months 24,000km/15,000 miles to western north Canada. 3,000km on gravel across the Liard/Mackenzie and up the Dempster to Tuktoyaktuk. We replaced 3 (old original) trailer and one truck flat. Kal Tire was amazing. Our biggest problem is we have 14" rims and can't really mount car/truck tires unless we replace the rims with 15" rims.

    When we went down the Cassiar, it was basically a dirt and rock road. Sometimes you’d drive in the middle. Sometimes on the left side. Just depended where the most rocks were. At the end there was a sign that said “road deactivated”. Would have been nice to know that on the front end. Good to see is in better shape these days. It was a really rough ride!

    My only Alaska tire issue was in Chicken AK. with a screw. Was a slow leaker and the ViAir compressor was a great item to have. But they (Fairbanks Toyota) since it is within 2" of the sidewall you can't patch it. So I had to get a new tire. I did have a tire warranty...thru Toyota...

    What an adventure. Lived in Alaska when I was a kid (60’s) and loved it. You brought it back to me. It was fun watching you guys and “less junk” travel the state. The trip isn’t for light weights as you traveled a lot of miles and it wasn’t cheap that’s for sure. You all are very pro in your presentation of video, and photography. I enjoy your banter as a family. You guys have a great sense of humor and sarcastic wit. Hope your daughter is doing well. Clearly your boys are. You have a better show than most of the realty tv shows on the tube. Season 6 next.

    Loved the Jewell Gardens when we went there in 2015. Saw celery growing for the first time. Knew they told us about the shape of the beds when viewed from the air so thanks for the drone footage! Love the glass art. Thanks for sharing.

    “Nine O’ Ten. New early time standard in Skagway!! Haha. We stopped at Skagway on a cruise ship and you are right - wall to wall people. I loved it.
    I think we took the train up toward Canada which was a nice break from all the humanity.

    Great video. You are one of 4 full timers that I follow...regularly that is. I do watch a couple others once in while, but two of you went to Alaska and I love how even though you both did the Alaska thing it's been two very different styles. Anyway yeah your videos and those super cool kids too. Caleb has me smiling all the time with his super high energy, wishing I had just a smidgen of that in my older age.

    For a cruise ship town, it depends on the town or the island the ship is at. I have been on 2 cruises. Some islands, you can only access by a cruise ship and other that you can access by ship or plane. They all seem to have hotels that you can stay at. Also, there is a lot of Jewelry stores mainly by the port.

    I noticed you mentioned heading to Sacramento. If you stop in Chico Ca (north of Sac) I can set you up with a free tour of Transfer Flow. They engineer and manufacture the 60 gallon fuel tank that you had installed on your truck. I've worked their for almost 15 years. 100 plus employees 4 robot welders an 2 Cincinnati laser cutters. An you can dry camp a day or so if you needed. It's a great company and an awesome product! Keep up the great video content. Been following you guys since the original Ginger and the F-150!

    What a video, Marc (and family). Loved the look at the back-side of Skagway: the gardens and the glass were awesome; can't imagine fighting the Main Street crowd of cruise ship crowd. Then, we saw a really good example of "looking after our own (RVers)" when the folks on the side of the road saw your storage door open, then, we got to see how to handle a bad tire and willingness to walk away from rudeness. Y'all are an inspiration. Am glad you're safely on the way "home." Y'all Be Safe!

    I enjoy your videos so much. I also have enjoyed your trip to Alaska. I have friends that live up there, that invite me to stay with them, but I always put them off. Now I am so impressed I'm looking into it, for summer anyway. It looks like an area that can rival my love of Montana. Although I really liked your Mexico trip too, and much warmer :-) I'm getting old and warmth sounds good these days :-) welcome back to the lower 48.

    We had a blown engine in the mountains of California, we were there for 6 hours before a cop stopped to ask what the problem was, by then we had a tow truck on the way AND that same cop had gone by us several times before deciding to stop. Oh yeah when the engine blew and a big puff of smoke exited out of the RV a young women stopped just as we stopped and asked if she could do anything(not an RV, she drove a car). If we see an RV on the side of the road and we can stop we certainly will if we have room to pull over..
