Love love your videos. I watch them all but unable to comment since I watch them on tv. I had a pond in my back yard for many years. I learned quickly that you need to put a rock or stump that stick out of water so the frogs can swim and able stop to breath. Otherwise they will drown...ONE MORE THING, WHAT KIND OF NETTING DID YOUR SOUSE USE, I LOVE THAT IT IS ATTACHED TO A HAT..

    • @HiddenSpringFarm

Aww thanks. Chunk barn cat will swat the rabbits butts but that’s about it they get along fairly well. I’d keep the cats out if there were baby bunnies though. We add all of the manure to our compost system but I just set it up last year so it hasn’t produced enough yet, a lot of it still has to compost down. Do have plans for a greenhouse but I’m tired of supporting Home Depots lumber yard so I bought my own sawmill to make my own lumber. Thanks so much for the comment and welcome to the farm 😁

Aww thanks, welcome to the farm. We got this place almost 4 years ago now and have been running it as a farm stay for about 3.5 years after getting the farmhouse ready. We want to build our house somewhere on the property while continuing to develop the farm stay, but we live about 18 mins down the road. We have a family staying in the farmhouse right now for a 2.5 month booking and more bookings lined up after that. It’s a great way to supplement the income for the farm cause let’s face it trying to sell animals or crops on a small scale will not cut it in life.

Well, now that you have a frog, not sure how you'll get rid of the algae in the pond...
I see you didn't mulch your planted beds. I wonder if you'd consider a living mulch instead of the straw, hay, etc... First thing I thought of was radishes, short grow time, but probably will go to seed before producing a radish for you, in this heat. Perhaps dwarf peas? No trellising required, harvest the shoots (very yummy), you'll protect the exposed soil and therefore you'll reduce evaporation (and access to random weed seeds), and, by leaving their roots in the ground at the end of the season, you'll have some added nitrogen in the soil, as peas are nitrogen fixers. And their roots will not compete with the brassicas'. For which you might consider some insect protection, because the white cabbage butterfly of death will eat them to a stub - ask me how I know :) There's also some perennial herbs and leafy greens you may want to look into - it's always nice to visit the garden for harvest only :)
Speaking of harvest, I miss your egg collecting :) Aren't you going to get some blue or green egg layers? :)
