You pulled alot more than needed for this job. I done one today and just used socket, extention and swivel. Didnt have to remove anything except sensor. I used long needle nose pliers to unhook harness
you should be doing these videos then dude!! but until then who cares really?
@@hgcbigballs I do make repair videos. Your welcome for making it simple. 😆
My 2000 Buick Century is starting hard after running to operating temperature in hot weather. You know you shut the car off go into the store and30 to 45 minutes later the car cranks but starts hard after a few attempts. Sometimes you have to give it a little gas. After a few seconds it runs fine. Starts fine when cold. Could this sensor be bad? Another video suggested this!
What did you do with the throttle body???
how u screw on the sensor w/ the pliers?
Wow. Looks like Gm needs to make up there minds on where they are going to keep their sensors.
Right
Glad to see your nut wasn't flush because I just replaced mine and was afraid I would f it up it I tried to seat it all the way to the nut on the sensor. There isn't any leaks when I start and put it under pressure so I am hoping it'll be alright.
Thanks that helped a lot in finding the location of the sensor!!!
Good information. At 2:56 something falls into the sensor hole.
And what is the reason you are changing it is the fans kicking late or temperature gauge passing half
Awesomely detailed bro I like how you point everything out

muchas gracias fue de mucha ayuda .saludos desde costa rica
Thank you very much for your help. Greetings from Costa Rica.
Great video! Shows where each sensor is for each model. Couldn’t ask for more.
Where is 3400 engine
If you put a little wrap of tape on the sensor and socket to hold it on for installation. Get it started and pull the socket off ,remove tape and tighten it up now that it’s started
Once you loosen the sensor, use a piece of garden hose to put over the sensor and finish unscrewing. Put the hose over the new sensor to get it started in the hole.
Great if you have a piece of hose around...
Graet video ! thanks
ooow multichange there :-))
And while you were moving your camera on the first car someone changed the whole car while you wasnt looking, sneaky sods he he :-))
I have an '04 Century with 3.1 and mine is located where you say the '98 was underneath the throttle body. My coolant reservoir also does not look like the one you say is a 2001 and the under hood fuse box appears to be in a different location and the air intake looks different. Maybe it was a 3.4? I am getting a "Service Engine Soon" light with code P0128. I thought this would be a job I could tackle but I think I will let a professional handle it. Looks like it is in a pretty tight area and I am worried about over torquing it and cracking the housing.
I am glad that Rich is back; I thought you got lost in a junk yard and were removing random parts from random cars for months! Never mind, you are still in a junk yard :-(
I wish a GMC Acadia was this easy to fix😳
E Z fix on the 3400 its the piston return spring, just clean and replace : )
Thank you!!
You sound like Peter Griffin
He must live in quahog
Thanks ....I'll be attempting this replacement on a 2001 malibou today. Hopefully it can be done without removing the throttle body intake.
You can do it. I removed the engine lift bracket and I had a straight shot at it.
will the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor make a car die when it warms up if its bad my Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor light flashs on and off and now my car dies when it warm up and wont start back till the car cools off it runs ok till it warms up and it dies and wont start back
What problems/ symptoms were you having with the bad sensor?
Is the 2007 3.9 on an Uplander in the same location?
Hi Rich overheating message air conditioner won't work temperature sensor high at C change 2 oxygen sensor n therostat nothing changed will you help me?what's wrong? Engine light stays on. Had vehicle serviced 2/19/18 45k maintenance service 2 dys later engine light stayed on
Would have been nice to see you put it back in on the second one.
That would have been too much like right 😂
My 3.5L Uplander coolant the coolant temperature sensor is on the top right at the radiator hose. And it's only one 🙄
Hey rich, My husband attempted to install this on my 2004 Pontiac Montana and cracked the unit it is housed in? Do you know what that is called? Trying to replace it.
a little late here but it's the thermostat housing. Parts about $30. How did he crack it removing it or installing it?
my ne sencer was oval n the old one was round ever seen 5that they dont carry a round plug one any ideas???????
Wish mine came out that easy...
What kind of Teflon tape is that? Is that normal plumbers stuff or is there something special for cars due to the heat involved?
Just normal plumber stuff there is no special type it’s Teflon so not effected by the heat.
Thanks a ton!
You're welcome!
Hi Rich. I have the 3400 in my 03 aztek. I am losing antifreeze on the back side of the engine. It appears to be a freeze plug that has come looses but has some type of sensor in the middle of it. Any idea that that sensor is?
Figured it out. Apparently the aztek's came with a block heater.
hey I need to locate temperature sensor on a 98 dodge ram b3500 van can u help me out
Same engine on my daughter alero.. Where is the thermostat located..can u show me please
Is it necessary to remove the top of the engine?
Whats the difference between that and the thermostat? is this what controls the gauge in the car and the fan relays ?
The thermostat actually controls the FLOW of coolant to the radiator from the engine. The temp sensor just sends a signal indicating how warm the coolant is. Some use one sensor for fan/ecm reading, and another for the gauge, some use just one. GM 3.1 usually 2 sensors. The one up top (as shown here) is for the fans/ecm.
This sensor controls the guage. The thermostat is located inside the coolant system and will open to let the coolant flow through when it reads that the coolant reaches the proper temerature.
A 2 wire sensor just tells the ecm/pcm what temp it thinks the coolant is and has nothing to do with the gauge.
Great video. I did notice, it appeared, that you used the old sensor. Is that what's typically wrong? You just need to improve the seal by adding Teflon tape to the threads instead of using a new sensor?
Coba tolong tunjukan letak sensor suit temperatur radiator pada mobil avanza tahun 2004
Nice junkyard repair !!!!
Steve Koszuta no kidding man very good vid👍
What year is this 3.1 you are working on?
I have a 2001 Grand Prix with a 3.1 engine in it,
Do I have a sensor for the computer and also one for the temperature gauge or just one sensor altogether?
Looking for coolant sensor on Northstar 4.6 Cadillac 99 de ville. Any idea where it is? Thanks.
What's the part of the motor that the sensor switch is located called? I have a crack in that part. Do you think it's fixable? Because people saying i have to replace the whole head part of the motor
It's the thermostat housing part is about $30 , a bit of labor to replace it though.
I see you trust your human torque wrench
What is the normal operating temp for this engine would love to know
Me too, mine seems low but then if sitting and the heater switch which turns fan on is off the car over heats like the other fan isnt coming on when needed. But it does come on. ?
I guess the Pontiac Montana 2007 SV6 3.9 l must be pretty good as there are no videos or information on them on you tube. Can't even find the bleeder valves on images on Google.
06' Buick rendenvouz 3.5 litter...do u know where is it...?....Tanks.
Do you have to use the tape on the threads cause I didn’t see any on mine when removing it
07 buick rendezvous cxl 3500 v6 temp sensor location. Whats the other loaction it can be other than what u found.
isn't there a sealant already on the sensor?
Yes they're definitely is when it comes to buying a new temperature sensor it's usually coated red around the threading but you can reinforce it with something extra like Teflon tape not recommended I'd rather use a compound sealer for a high temperature pipe threads like that but Teflon table not hurt it at all telephone tape just shrinks due to temperature but that's all
Where is it on a 2002 Oldsmobile intrigue 3.5 motor and do I got to take a lot of stuff off to get to. I can't seem to find it anywhere
Hi did you ever figure it out? I’m searching on a 1999 intrigue v6..?😮
@@RibeyeSuze so long ago t know I did it but don't remember where it was. I actually found it on another video after looking for what seemed like forever. I haven't had that car for over three years it was totalled in an accident.
@@veritasaequitas4800 ok thanks for replying. It’s for an elderly lady who bought it new, it’s red and only has 61,000 miles on it, stores in garage, and she stills drives at 81, only drove it to store and church. Like new practically but now having this issue. Was trying to help her out. Thanks
Hi there!..
I've had the opportunity to remove the coolant temperature sensor from my 3400 '02 Aztek, but for the life of me, I CAN NOT get it to thread back in. I've bought 4 different sensors that said exact "fit" and even went to the GM dealer and bought one, and I still CAN'T get the darn thing to go back in!! My Coolant temperature sensor is located behind the throttle like in your video. Do you have another video showing how you get it back IN?, or have any suggestions on how I do this or do I have to remove the throttle body to reinstall it????
Have you tried putting the old one back in to see if it was a problem with your new sensors.
richpin06a
I scanned before removing and it said faulty. It was broken in half but I was able to remove it. It was in half at the connector point. I tried to reinstall the old one and can't get it back in either.
Drove up to the dealer and bought the OE part from them, took the old one with me and they did a thread test on one of there fitters and it was exact. I can't seem to install any new one or the old one. Been trying by hand slowly to get it to grab and nothing. Just spins around and doesn't grab.
I felt down in the hole with my pinky and nothing feels off. No sharp edges or gouges from what I can feel. Everything seems proper and I've been at this for 3 days now... I've tried different angles too.
Tammy Hollenbeck did you ever get the sensor back in
The sensor you replaced on the GM '98 3.1 is actually the coolant temperature SWITCH with the 3 blade terminal or sometimes called the temperature sending unit (which you didn't show the terminals, but the round versus oblong top where the wire pignut attaches is a giveaway) There are 3 wires for this sensor, not 2, and as I found out the hard way, if you tell the parts store you need the coolant temperature sensor, you'll get the wrong part for THIS engine. You'll get the same part as you showed on the newer 3.1, which is a coolant temperature sensor, but only has 2 wires. Again that one has the oblong top with the 2 pins for the 2-wire pignut to attach to. The switch only controls the gauge function, whereas the temp sensor has to do with the control of the cars fuel injectors, timing advance and retard, and EFE and EGR valve functions. I had to take the sensor back and that's when I found out that there are 2 different ones for this car.
So where in the GM '98 3.1 is the actual coolant temperature sensor? If I could share pics on here I would! And my car is a '98 Buick Century with the 3.1 V-6. And I bought the Duralast sensors at Auto Zone.
That’s the sensor, he was and is correct 😂
there's bare wire that loses its shield down behind power steering pump
Onthe 3400 can I change it out without removing the engine cover?
where is the sensor located on Chevy cruze
How do I get my radiator fans to run without leaving the AC on? It seems like the only way to keep it cool is by running AC or being constantly in motion. At idle without AC it overheats. Suggestions?
4:20 he sounds like peter griffin {giggity}
I took it off I can not put the new back. #why?
anybody know where the sensor is on a 1980s Chevy 350 for water temp.
Shane Copeland it's on the intake manifold
Of course GM had to place the sensor behind that throttle body part...LOL...
Well I put the engine coolant temp sensor in now my car is spraying fluid everywhere what’d I do wrong and how do I fix it
what about 2001 3.4 aka 3400
Anybody figure out where on a 1999 intrigue v6..?😮
No 3400?
I'm staring right at a 2004 Grand am 3400sfi. The sensor is in the same location as 1:30 in this video.
position sensor crankshaft position sensor
219 degrees 3.4 v6 engine
WTF this gotta do withh the 3.4L?
Im Gooma!
I replaced the temp sensor on my 97 lumina and the fans won't turn on
+melvin mcmichael I had the same problem, its due to a relay fuse that is under a black fuse box under the hood of the car, they are usually silver in color and they are square shaped. There is a legend on the top of the box to let you know which one is the fan relay, Sometimes you can just replace that and it will work just fine.
Obviously, something has to be removed before you can get a tool or a hand to where you can do this. What and how?
If you have the setup I see a lot, the throttle plate bellcrank is in the way, yes? If you don't have any combo of wobbly socket that can worm in there and get it done, you'll need to remove the throttle body. Not a big deal. Leave the coolant lines attached, if you can move it out of the way with them on it. It doesn't need to move much, just enough to get a straight shot in there.
Honestly cant Even tell where you're at V the motor for that temperature sensor you needed to back the camera off so we can see something it just looks like a mangled mess
Engine little crusty
This not a 3400 engine
