Maynard James Keenan: this will be our last song.. crowd : awwwww.haawwwwww... :( :( Maynard James Keenan: we're not fucking green day its not 3 minits long
The Aenima tour was a crossing point for Tool. In the earlier part of the tour they played smaller and medium sized venues like this. Within a year they would be playing stadiums and never looking back.
Maynard say's he is not a rock star but 100 years from now people will still be listening tool like we listen to the doors or led zeplin or even pink floyd now let me know if i'm wrong lol
I love how Maynard goes into that little squirmy dance move he does right when the beats kick in. It's like he can't help it. The music just channels through the little demigod.
Maynard and Tool will never be duplicated !!!! they have a lead singer & a sound that will stand the test of time, even through the earthquakes & tidlewaves !!!!!
some people would go back to see Dinosaurs.., or the first day Star Wars opened, or maybe the day of Independence etc etc..., If they asked me if I wanted to go back in time when and where ? ..I'd say... October 16th, 1996 The Glass House in the front of the pit.
re:covarubias prison sex at 31:50 "show me something (x4)/ thought I could make it end/ thought I could wash the stain away/ thought I could break the circle if i/ slipped right into your skin. So sweet was your surrender/ We have become one/ I have become my terror/ and you my precious lamb and martyr."
I saw them in Tacoma at the UPS field-house (tiny) in October of 1996. It was basically this show, the sound was like wearing a second skin. I've seen them maybe six times since (an in Eugene on the 7th of march next) no matter where Maynard stands, he rules. BTW, he was painted blue for that '96 concert.
Thanks for the upload of this concert...it's nice to see Maynard up front and in the spotlight unlike now.Saw Tool in Charlotte last year and it was freaking amazing!!!Had tickets to see them at the Ritz in Raleigh in 1995 I think and didn't go...wow how stupid of me!!!Small venue's like this are so cool to be at!!!(:
Yeah even though most enjoy seeing a frontman in front hes actually making a statement that there doesnt have to be one and it still works the same even if he chooses to sing from the shadows. I personally enjoy the tool shows with maynard in front doing his awkward dancing moves....epic . Plus i think its his way of letting the band shine a bit more.
g0ddamn, this was an epic show, Tool at the peak. Maynard's voice never sounded better. It's going to take generations for any band to get close to this kind of genius.
Best band in my books of the past half century! Harmony is everything,,It takes all of them to be as perfect as they are,or were if they choose to come out of the closet and perform for their fans....
I've been a fan of Tool since high school, but I've been revisiting their albums again after a few years of them being absent (no recent album) and it's nice to see their evolution as a band in comparison to my evolution over the years. From pain to acceptance to meditation to self-education...I'm a librarian now and have lightened up since the early 2000's, but I'll never dismiss the importance of their music and how wonderful it is to enjoy with other people. Thanks for the upload.
So cool how many techniques Tool utilizes... like around 1:19:00 during "Third Eye" when Justin is just banging on his bass to get that rattling feedback sound, WTF! Also, this show was on my sister's 5th birthday ;P she should have asked my parents to take us as her present lol
thanks for posting man!! I was at this show, & used to have a copy of this but it got lost over the years.... the energy was amazing. better than any tool show I've seen since (all of which were also great, btw) thanks again!!!!!!! =]
Tool kicks ass, justin was fresh in the band, they jus released Aenema, Maynards talkin between tunes which is rare nowadays, no intro nether, just in your face METAL!
Thanks for posting this video, I live in London but had kids at the time so didn't have the cash to go to gigs, had to make do with studio albums. This video shows the musical strength of MJK's lyrics and the Band as live performers. Wish Tool, A Perfect Circle &/or Puscifer would play in the U.K, sure a tour would sell out!?!
This is amazing!! I was there, was surprised they were playing the Glass House in Pomona as the first stop on tour. It's such a small place. I love that you posted this.
Maynard's voice is freaking PERFECT here!!!Would have loved to have seem them at the Ritz in Raleigh NC back in 1994 but didn't go...how stupid could I have been!!!!Saw them in Charlotte NC in 2012 so it made up for it!I love, love absofreakinglutely love MJK!!!
I watched when he was on the Joe Rogan podcast a little while ago and he said the reason why he turned his back to the crowd was because all the flashing lights from cameras would have triggered a seizure.
See, I'd add lateralus in there too, 10,000 days is a great album but it never had quite the rotation everything else did for me, I still sit and listen to Undertow or Lateralus from beginning to end to this day, hard to describe why...the songs on 10,000 days are just as strong, they just didn't "meld" together as completely for me. Felt more like just a collection of awesome tool songs than a cohesive Tool album if that makes sense.
omfg that guy yelling "Nikki!! 3rd eye!!" was so god damned ANNOYING!! my sis & I were standing right next to him, & kept telling him to stfu! it didn't help, of course, & this video is proof. when they finally played 3rd eye, of course he stopped - but that was the last song, lol!! if you're reading this, 3rd eye guy: you were bugging!!!
i was at this show, front row, just to the left of maynard. fucking amazing show. we will never see them like this again :( luckily we all knew what we were witnessing while we were there
Maynard James Keenan: this will be our last song..
crowd : awwwww.haawwwwww... :( :(
Maynard James Keenan: we're not fucking green day its not 3 minits long
wow anyone else notice the utter disappointment on maynard's face when his voice cracked at the end of Third Eye? He takes this shit seriously
Maynard looks like one of the Engineers from Prometheus
This is Tool in their prime and one of the BEST bootleg live shows I have ever seen. Danny Carey is an absolute fucking beast.
Holy fuck I wish I could have seen them before Maynard took to the shadows...
The Aenima tour was a crossing point for Tool. In the earlier part of the tour they played smaller and medium sized venues like this. Within a year they would be playing stadiums and never looking back.
I love watching early Tool shows before they had lighting shows and stuff. Really reveals them as true performers. Beautiful.
MJK is the perfect voice, the perfect attitude, and Tool is the biggest band ever and forever
Maynard say's he is not a rock star but 100 years from now people will still be listening tool like we listen to the doors or led zeplin or even pink floyd now let me know if i'm wrong lol
This is one of those time machine moments. What I wouldn't give to see this show in person.
I love how Maynard goes into that little squirmy dance move he does right when the beats kick in. It's like he can't help it. The music just channels through the little demigod.
kinda looked like Maynard was disappointed he didn't belt out the 10th and last "prying open my third eye", it was still fucking epic
I love how Danny uses the drum part from reflection as the intro to sober
guys im gonna start listening to tool again
Maynard and Tool will never be duplicated !!!! they have a lead singer & a sound that will stand the test of time, even through the earthquakes & tidlewaves !!!!!
Stinkfist 00:00:00 | Forty-Six & 2 00:06:50 | Eulogy 00:13:37 | Hooker With a Penis 00:23:01 | Prison Sex 00:28:25 | Jimmy 00:34:47 | Undertow 00:40:59 | Sober 00:48:00 | H. 00:53:31 | Ænema 01:00:12 | Opiate 01:08:11 | Third Eye 01:13:59
I ffeel like tool is one of the few bands that are still around that sound comletly amazing live. They dont just write music they write masterpieces
I'm not a huge Tool fan, but wow. watched this entire show. Everything about this is 100% awesome.
some people would go back to see Dinosaurs.., or the first day Star Wars opened, or maybe the day of Independence etc etc..., If they asked me if I wanted to go back in time when and where ? ..I'd say... October 16th, 1996 The Glass House in the front of the pit.
did i really just witness the first live 46 & 2????? EPPPICCCCC
Wow! One of the best sounding! And FINALLY a good shot showing Danny.
Man it is so awesome to see how he plays those absolutely unique noises with the guitar!
typical Maynard in a trance while he performes, still remember my first show, Hollywood palladium in 97, havent missed any shows since
re:covarubias prison sex at 31:50

Stinkfist - one of the best song ever!!!
Un-f-ing believable !! Thank you Tool for taking me through all the up's and down 's of my life. What a ride it's been since the early nineties.
They are so out of this world amazing, they shouldn't even be categorized as music. They are just TOOL.
Glad to hear that bands can sound exactly the same as they would recording in the studio.
I saw them in Tacoma at the UPS field-house (tiny) in October of 1996. It was basically this show, the sound was like wearing a second skin. i would do almost anything to go back in time for the lateralus tour!
This set list is EPIC. To say the least....
Yeah even though most enjoy seeing a frontman in front hes actually making a statement that there doesnt have to be one and it still works the same even if he chooses to sing from the shadows. fuck thank you to the camera man
This is pure gold.
g0ddamn, this was an epic show, Tool at the peak. Maynard's voice never sounded better. It's going to take generations for any band to get close to this kind of genius.
I must say I'm pretty jealous of Maynard for having the balls to dance in the exact way he pleases.
this is my dream set list
It never gets old to me... seen these boys many times. Wish I could see em again.
a relaxing cup of Tool
chills...period!!!!
Best band in my books of the past half century! Harmony is everything,,It takes all of them to be as perfect as they are,or were if they choose to come out of the closet and perform for their fans....

26:19 Danny Carey drops a stick. Ah so he is human.
Back when Maynards voice was perfectly on key during a live performance
Billy Howerdel at 40:30 !
The poor soul was too overwhelmed by Tool. That kind of stuff happens!
I know people change, grow, progress, and age, but this version of Maynard is my favorite to remember. So serious and seemingly wise
Ohhh yeah! That's the only tour I ever heard Third Eye on. Friggin awesome!
This concert was incredible.

one of the best bands ever
What I would've given to see them back in the day. Saw them in 2006 and 2008 and it was amazing... but this... this is fucking amazing.
Possibly the best live audio/video I have seen of these guys . Thanks for sharing.
thanks for posting man!! I was at this show, & used to have a copy of this but it got lost over the years.... the energy was amazing. better than any tool show I've seen since (all of which were also great, btw)
thanks again!!!!!!! =]
great concert..sound quality is excelent
I got at home the vinyl version of " AENEMA " . A pretty piece of art !!! + a special Customed colored vinyl EP .
Just how good is this album? I just can't fathom it anymore. Please come back.
he doesnt hide in the back. he said the band is equal and a front man takes too much credit for the other members talent.
Maynard's voice...so pure.
Amazing. What a treat. Thank you for uploading.
thanks for the upload, that's the best voice of Maynard.
Tool kicks ass, justin was fresh in the band, they jus released Aenema, Maynards talkin between tunes which is rare nowadays, no intro nether, just in your face METAL!
Jimmy is amazing... so awesome to see it performed live for the first time...
They were just so freaking epic with MJK down front
super quality, amazing concert! thanks a lot!

was best, best now, best in future!
Perfect example of a fenomenal live performance, there's no words to describe how I feel about Tool
This video is perfect. One of the best performances. Smaller venue. Thanks uploader.
cool thanks, gonna check them out
Wow! best youtube video ive seen in ages..
This tour was the first time i ever saw Tool, at Sydney's Hordern Pavillion.
EPIC!!!
Maynard's eyes. My god.
This is GOD
haha "we're not green day,our songs aren't 3 minutes long"
This is amazing!!
Could they be any more perfect timed?
I think Danny Carey is a human metronome!
FUCKING awesome show.
I have not seen another band like them since.
good lord i love danny carey.
hell yeah this is where i see most of my concerts cant believe tool was here seems small for them
I watched when he was on the Joe Rogan podcast a little while ago and he said the reason why he turned his back to the crowd was because all the flashing lights from cameras would have triggered a seizure.
First time I saw Tool was for this tour. It was awesome.
"Look we're not Green day, it's not three minutes long..." BUUUUUUUUURRRRRRNNNNNNNN!!!!!!
...YEARS looking for this, thank you so much
THANK YOU much obliged man seriously
drummer rocks big
thank you so much for posting. I just watched the entire show, I love that they closed with third eye! I feel a bit more complete today
Fucking Brilliant.
CONGRATULATION EXCELENT SHOW AND DESCRIPTION!!!! THANKS!!
If I had been lucky enough to go to this the last thing i would do is tape for an hour and a half, so thanks!
fabulous observation my friend, fabulous. i dont think he recovers because everything he does is on purpose. hes just that good!
thanks for the upload...making the work day fly by!!!
I'd vote for him. Adam Jones for VP, and Danny Carey for Secretary of Defense. Justin can be oh shit idk... Ambassador of Awesome?
this is actually the first show from the aenima tour. used to have this on vhs. crazy
omfg that guy yelling "Nikki!! 3rd eye!!" was so god damned ANNOYING!! my sis & I were standing right next to him, & kept telling him to stfu! it didn't help, of course, & this video is proof. when they finally played 3rd eye, of course he stopped - but that was the last song, lol!! if you're reading this, 3rd eye guy: you were bugging!!!
i was at this show, front row, just to the left of maynard. fucking amazing show. we will never see them like this again :( luckily we all knew what we were witnessing while we were there
Dat Eulogy ending!
This is a valuable video
