@@Shadow0fd3ath24 well it's death metal. If you like death metal, his vocals are actually really cool and unique. If you don't like extreme metal vocalists, then I'm sure his voice sounds terrible because it's growling and snarling, not singing

Not all extreme metal fans love all extreme metal vocalists. You talk all condescending as if you are explaining some objective truth. Seems silly. I think a better frontman could help get a little more light on the band, but of course it would be upsetting for the many current diehard fans, so, tough tradeoff in this genre, really.

Although I am not a fan of this particular style of music, this drummer is nothing short of Phenomenal. Anyone whom is dissing him, should take a closer look at themselves. It may look like he's just tapping the bass drums, but he's kickin' it for sure, they are not just taps, and if they are just taps, they are working just fine and so I ain't going to criticize his technique. It's whatever works best for whomever is doing the deed. God Bless, and my hat's off to your drumming Spencer, and I have been drumming for over 40 yrs now, 20 semi-pro and professionally, so I think I just 'might' know a good drummer when I hear and see one. A # 1, stay loose and happy drumming.
For all the people criticizing that he is using triggers and is just tapping, it really wouldn't make any difference if he really pounded the bass drums as the output will be the same as it is triggered. And it is triggered because at that speed, a mic cannot capture all the hits and would ruin the whole thing. He's also tapping IMO to conserve energy which he can use for his hand works. It's pretty clear that he has put in a lot of effort to play the way he does.. So, all the keyboard warriors, either appreciate it or stfu...
Santhosh Srinivasan I agree. It's the same concept as electric guitars. Try playing any kind of metal on an acoustic guitar; it'll sound like shit. Triggers are just like pick-ups on a guitar, no difference. If anything, sloppy technique is more audible through triggers.
+Santhosh Srinivasan You're wasting your breath. They can't really grasp the concept because they read it some where else and really have no clue. Just repeating what someone else said like it actually has merit.
+Santhosh Srinivasan I know your post was super old, but I must respond. Triggers can be set so that every time they go off, they are at the same volume. If this drummer has done that, then he does not have to worry at all about his strokes having dynamic consistency. This gives him a huge advantage over drummers who try to play this fast without triggers. Non-trigger using drummers would have to spend a lot of time not only getting quick, but making it so that every stroke has the right volume. Trigger using drummers can bypass that dynamic difficulty. If this drummer is using uni dynamic triggers, then I doubt he has trained to play with consistent stroke volumes. Thus, if you removed his triggers, his bass drum playing would sound bad (though it may be quick and on time). Thus, some people consider triggers cheating. I don't. If the drummer doesn't mind only being able to have one volume coming from the kick, then they might as well use triggers to improve the sound quality. But a drummer who needs adjustable dynamics can't use uni dynamic triggers. Thus if they want to play fast double bass, they must train to have consistent dynamics, thus being at a disadvantage to trigger users. And I'm pretty sure a mic can pic up all the hits. If you were to mic your speakers with this song playing, the mic would pick up all of the bass drum hits. A mic is thus capable of picking up fast bass drum playing. Mics don't fail to pick up fast bass drum playing... it's just that many drummers play fast double bass so quietly that you (and the mic) can't hear the bass drum. You were relying on the idea that "if he really pounded the bass drums," he would sound similar. But the problem is, he probably can't really pound the bass drum. Not quickly anyway. Dudes still a good drummer.
amidst a sea of nearly identical sounding death metal bands, one band continues to be unmistakable... Archspire. How they achieve their astonishing speed and technical abilities, modern science may never know.
Creative. Precise. Technical. Mind shattering speed. And it's in perfect time. So glad I got to see this band live. Blew my mind. To this day, I haven't found it.
I disliked it because it keeps coming up on my RUclips music station. Kinda don't want drum videos on my recommended. I took the dislike off but it keeps coming back.

This dude is pretty awe inspiring. As I have progressed in my musical taste I am really appreciating all this great technical death metal that is out these days. Keep up the outstanding work!! I need to learn that snare trick he does off the rim.
I just knew him, and was so flabbergasted. I previously know Austin Archey from Lorna Shore and was really amazed by his playing. But when I see this mans', I was like bro, there's so much underrated beast drummers. Austin has a great fast-stable tip n' toe technique, meanwhile Spencer has that inhuman snare triplet technique. Both has pulled the bar to the max 🔥 I noticed at 00:44, he changed the beat so fast that it seems there is a frame skipped from the video.

I'm hoping Archspire plays a show in my neck of the woods soon so I can check this madness out live. \m/
