    Great vids Fred, please keep them coming. I did the power and the lights to my Maverick and it all works....except the lights only stay on when the ignition is on. Turn it off and the lights go off.Any thoughts as to what I may have done wrong? Thanks

    • @fredsgarage1925
      @fredsgarage1925  7 месяцев назад

      Ok, so the Maverick keeps the power on to the back plugs for 90 minutes after the key is turned off. So if you try to turn it on after the 90 minutes you have to just turn the key all the way on and off to reset the 90 minute timer. If the lights are turning off as soon as you turn the key off then what I would do is make sure the power is still going to the bed wires. I would get a test light and check for power, there should be power. If NO power then it’s a ford dealership issue. If there is power then make sure your power is going to your switch and comes on the opposite terminal with the switch on and then clicked off. Hope this makes sense. Let me know what you find out. Thanks

    Looks great , i might do that to my maverick , but im wondering if those lights will adhere to the spray in bed liner …????

    • @fredsgarage1925
      @fredsgarage1925  8 дней назад +1

      The double sided sticky tape probably won’t hold well. I learned that lesson when I mounted my rear dash camera on my broncos roll bar. It fell off 2 days later. So what I did and what would work great for you is I used gorilla hot glue sticks, that stuff has held a heavy camera for about a year and it is also flexible enough to be pealed off if you wanted to. So between the glue and the zip ties it should be very secure. Hey good luck and let me know how you made out.

    Great video Fred! I ordered everything to get this project done- thanks to the links you provided. I wanted to ask you if you had any suggestions on how to mount the 2 lights on the back of the truck bed where I will be installing the Ford modular bed liner. There will be no roll up cover added. Since the bed liner has not yet been installed, is there a possibility to make openings in the liner or just run the wires behind the back piece of the liner (sacrifice the back 2 lights) and continue over to the other side of the bed and install the other 2 lights down the side.
    Please let me know what you think!
    Thank you again!

      Hi thanks for reaching out. Well there are 2 ways. 1) on the passenger side under the bed next to passenger corner there is a black plastic shield with about 10 screws. A lot of people will run the wire through the same hole under the passages bedrail ( identical to the one on the driver side that I ran the protective sleeve in the video.). The wire will fall to the ground and all you have to do is wire tie the wire across from passenger to drivers side and connect both wires to the switch. Then reinstall the black plastic cover. 2) when you get your lights they come with a lot of extra wire, you could tape some wire along the inside of the drop in bed liner ( between the Bed liner and the bed ) feed the wire under bed rails so when you wire up your lights you will have the 2 ends to connect the lights to. then place 3 light under your bed rails instead of 2 lights. Running a wire in between the drop in liner and bed is a good idea for the future if you ever decide to wire something else you will alway have a wire to tap into. I hope this makes sense, please feel free to reach out to me with any questions, if I can help I will. Thanks again Fred.

    Thanks for this great video! I'd like to do the same thing, with the only difference being I have the Lariat with the one factory bed light already in place with a switch. How would you recommend a novice adapt your instructions as far where to wire in these additional lights? And related to that, how does this impact which parts I'd need to purchase from your list? Trying to make sure I order everything I need in one go and that I'm clear on what to wire where. 🙂

    • @fredsgarage1925
      @fredsgarage1925  8 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you. I need to look at the back of a lariat panel. You must already have a switch there to turn on the current light? All you would have to do is tap into that switch’s positive wire that turns on the light after the switch is turned on. The ground can just go to any bolt on the body, since the entire body is negative. Or you can always add a new switch to a small free space on your panel. Let me see if I can find a photo with how it’s wired and I’ll add another reply. Thanks

    • @fredsgarage1925

      I found this, you just need tapped into the bedlight using those T-Tap connectors . Just remember to tap into the light, and not the on/off button. Your LED strips's positive wire will tap into the black/white wire, negative wire will tap into the black/green wire. And since you will doing that, you'll be able to utilize the existing bedlight's on/off button, so no need to bother with the LED strip's supplied button. It just looks so much cleaner and functions like it was factory. Are you familiar with T-tap connectors? I’ll post a link for you.

    • @fredsgarage1925
      @fredsgarage1925  8 месяцев назад +1

      Here are T-Taps. I know it’s a lot but it cheaper the just buying 2. So all you need is the T-tap on each wire and the plug in to the lights. Hope this helps and question please ask and good luck. amzn.to/472xjsB

    Thanks Fred. Did you say in another video that the power for the bed is only on for an hour or so after the truck is turned off? If so, then if you return to your truck after an hour or so, to check for your daughters backpack, you have to first turn on the truck before going to the back of the truck for the bed lights to turn on?

    • @fredsgarage1925
      @fredsgarage1925  9 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, the Maverick will only keep the power to the bed for 1.5 hours to keep it from lowering the voltage. So I have to get the back pack within that time. Now I haven’t tried to see if the power is activated to the bed if u click the unlock button? Maybe that will do it. I won’t be back at the truck until tomorrow but I will try it. Thanks for the comment and have a great day.

      I’m sorry, I haven’t seen your comment. If you can access the positive power leaving the switch to the lights you could tap into that. That would let the exciting switch to work the new lights. Just make sure you’re not overloading the circuit.

    Hey Fred, thanks so much for this. I followed your instructions but the bed lights aren't turning on. The switch that powers the USB and 12V work find and the indicator light on the bed light switch illuminates but the actual bed lights don't turn on. Any ideas?

    • @fredsgarage1925
      @fredsgarage1925  6 месяцев назад

      So the indicator on the switch lights up. Check the ground wire for the bedlights. Did you ground the wire to all the other grounds ( black ) wire. Also if I remember correctly eastern the black wire with the white hash marks is he ground wire? If you have both wires from the bed lights connected, try swapping them. Maybe you have the positive connected to the negative circuit and the negative to the positive et me know. Also if you have a test light you should have positive coming out of the middle connection on the switch?

    • @kazshamael
      @kazshamael 6 месяцев назад

      @@fredsgarage1925 Sorry, I worded that weird. My set up is exactly like yours. I was just saying my switches have the little led indicators letting me know it's getting power. So they both are getting power from the truck but the one switch isn't turning the bed lights on for some reason.
      I'll see if I have a test light to confirm whether or note the positive wire is hot.

    • @fredsgarage1925
      @fredsgarage1925  6 месяцев назад

      You can always unplug the positive wire to the usb and plug in the bedlights because you know that switch works. If your bedlights come on it’s a bad switch. If they don’t then it’s something with the bedlights wiring. Let me know what you find out. Thanks

    • @kazshamael
      @kazshamael 6 месяцев назад

      Thanks for the advice! I just swapped the wires. The switch that was originally hooked up to the lights turned the USB on so I can confirm both switches work. The other switch didn't power the bed lights so yea, looks like there's something going on with the bed light wiring. I'll keep you updated.
