GSC Fatguy Razor. 1st use of this chrome plated replica of the 1960 Gillette Fatboy.

- This literally arrived about 1 hour ago and I’ve just did a quick sanitize of it and I’m going to try it on camera for the first time.
Specs from their website-
Construction. Made of a brass and magnesium alloy which has a higher tensile strength than brass itself
Plating. Chrome or 18 carat gold
Weight. 70 gram
Blade Gaps. From .011 to .037 (english)
Adjustment Mechanism. The blade gap will only change when the head is unlocked
Differences. Our Fatguy weighs a bit less than the original because the Swiss alloy it is made with is lighter & stronger than brass itself. We use chrome plating instead of nickel. Also our Gold Fat Guy does not have the horizontal knurling on the bottom knob. It keeps the original knurling throughout

I’m a little bit skeptical, to say the least. I ordered the Fatguy and, like everybody else, have been waiting. But that is not is bothering me. I ordered two other razors and blades from Global Shave Club THREE months ago and have not received them. All attempts to contact the seller have come to nought. As I said, I am skeptical. Three months without an explanation is not good, even in a time of covid and the fact that i am in Australia.

I've been looking forward to this razor. Can't wait until this one gets to me. I have always had a quick response from Sheldon and great service from Global Shave Club. My grandfather used a Fatboy, but I wasn't fortunate enough to get his when he passed. I really like these replicas.

Best razor I've used yet, and I was extremely satisfied with my Rockwell 2C.

Thanks for the review. I can't wait for my Fatguy to arrive!!! My SOTD was with my Fatboy and Proraso pre-shave and Proraso sensitive soap with a Pol Silver blade. A fine shave indeed.
I never could get Pol Silvers to shave well for me, always turned out like shaving with a cheese grater lol. Gillette Silver Blue blades are the charm for me.

Great shave. I’m glad someone finally took on bringing the Gillette Fatboy back to life. If my money is good, I’ll be interested. The chilly fall weather has returned, which has brought back the climate that’s needed for the season. My shipment of various artisan soaps still hasn’t arrived, but it should be delivered to my house soon. A used but new to me razor also comes with it, and I can’t wait to use them

Nice review and shave Ken💈💈 As a dyed in the wool collector, I have many original Gillette adjustable razors, NIB, new unused, mint etc., Executives, Aristocrats, $1.95's, Slims, Super 109's and some Black Beauties. I don't really need one of these for many reasons but it looks good, seems to work good and will be a cool addition to those whom are unable to acquire the real deal. Great video as always, thanks. I have to say, I do like the look of the Fatguy's chromed look - my K-2 adjustable and 1920's ball end open comb are both polished to a mirror finish, I prefer how they feel on my face. From the sounds of things, it looks like a really good replica. It's so nice to see footage of it after what feels like an eternal wait. Setting number 9 looked like not a very big blade gap from what I can see? My adjustable on setting 9 has quite a significant gap.
Overall though, it's really cool that it's finally here, and an awesome review as always Ken 🪒💈

I’m glad that somebody is doing it but I’m not to crazy about the chrome finish… seems like a fingerprint magnet. Nothing beats the quality of the vintage Gillette razors IMO. Especially with the special blend of alloys used today I still think the original Gillette Fatboy is better quality and for the price of the FatGuy I’d have to hold it in my hand to see if it’s worth the extra money.
Medical grade mineral oil is dirt cheap at the pharmacy. Used for a lot of things, from constipation to cutting boards in the kitchen. Won't turn rancid or hurt your skin. Much, much cheaper than WD40 or 3in1 and safe.

It would also be interesting to also see you review more lather bowls. I just used my new one today by fine shaving and it is amazing, never going back.
I don't think he uses lather bowls. He usually loads from the tub and smears it on his face without adding any more water.

Great video. Thanks for posting it. Tell Mike that banging razors on the sink isn’t good for them. Gillette says it knocks the blades out of alignment on their cartridge razors. I used to do it, but no more. Stay safe!

I'm confused about not adjusting it with the doors closed. I adjust my 1960 Fatboy with the doors closed snugly and it doesn't seem to hurt anything. Of coarse any instructions that may have originally come with it are long gone. My new adjustable Vikings Emperor says to make sure the doors are closed before adjusting it. As far as lubricating the Fatboy I recently hosed it down with WD 40 and it sure worked smoothly after that. I enjoyed the video.
I was worried the WD40 might leave that smell
My Vikinga Blade Emperor will not adjust properly unless the doors are loosened slightly. If I adjust from 9 to a lower setting, it works fine. But if I try to adjust back to a higher setting, the adjustment knob will spin unless I loosen the doors. Check that out on your Emperor. I seem to recall reading that somewhere on the Vikings Blade website.
Actually Ken demoed the razor based on my cryptic instructions on how to use it. You do not have to open the butterfly doors to change the gap. Just unlock the handle to the closed position, select the gap that you want and then lock the doors again. That is how the original Fatboy is designed to work.
@@sbcwinn Ok, I guess I have been adjusting mine wrong but it always seems to work fine and I can hear the clicking noise when I adjust it but it may be a moot point because I am sure enjoying my new Vikings Emperor adjustable razor.

Say Ken you don't have to open the doors to change the gap. Just unlock them by twisting the knob a quarter turn.

Ken, the key to having successful shaving foam is to bloom the soap well. Drip out all the water from the soaked brush and you'd have a good lather.
The bloom water also makes a good pre-shave in a pinch! 😁

Ken, please use Balistol, two tiny drops should do. Put the drops in and get some canned air. Blow one burst of air in the hole to get the oil everywhere inside and your good to go. I use a syringe to get just two drops in there. You do know Balistol is edible? Good for knives too.

It's funny: you had not touched the razor to your face and one of your first comments was; "I can't wait to see it in gold..." Classic example--never satisfied. Still, you did a good job demonstrating the razor's core functions and at the end of the day that is what's important. Bravo.
