Hi Ken, I realize I'm not a guy, so I don't shave my face, but thanks to your videos I've switched to a safety razor for shaving my legs and the results have been phenomenal. No more razor burns or ingrown hairs on my legs. Love Creed Aventus too!

@@kensurfs I'm definitely going to look into the vintage Gillette razors for women. I like all sorts of stuff like that from the 50s, 60s, and 70s. I think I was born in the wrong era.
Chauntel, check out Gillette Starburst razors. They have long textured handles (perfect for use in the shower) and come in three different colours (pink, champagne and baby blue).

A bit of googling shows that £7 10/6 [=£7.55] in 1960 is equivalent to £172.44 in 2019 (roughly $228 accoring to today's exchange rate)

That’s definitely a once in a lifetime 24 carat gold shave. Thanks for showcasing such wonderful products. Did you see Bond 25 has Started production. £7.10.6 in old money converts into around £160 in today’s values. That price would have been 5 days Wages for a skilled workmen.

My opinion may not be a popular one. But i would suggest you to use the toggle as much as you can. Obviously dont use it if you are traveling. You may loose it. I have a Gillette Aristocrat 15. It was my dream razor. It is in good condition. But i use it more than others. I like the feel and shave of the aristocrat 15. I know the plating may wear of if i use it more. But the real treasure in having these razors is using them and not keeping them on display. Whats the point if i use a super speed or merkur 34c when i love the Aristocrat 15 shave more than them. I have ATT H2 which is my second favorite razor and i use that occasionally as it is very agressive. Regards.

Neil, I could not agree with you more ! I bought a MINT 1962 Gillette Slim Aristocrat that looks nearly untouched. I know the care I take in cleaning my razors after every use, so I started treating myself to using it every so often. Heck, I collect nice vintage razors, many that are in nice, original sets, but I use them all ! I don't collect with the thought that I'm ever going to sell them anyway, so why not enjoy them ?!

Order a R1 or R2 baseplate for the Above The Tie razor.
I have a Calypso M1 that was way too mild and ordered a R1 plate. It turned a dud into an excellent razor.

Great shave. For the record the Toggle was produced for a few periods of time, first in 1956, second in 1958 and for the last time in 1960. Because of this, the Toggle is pretty hard to come by so anyone wanting to find it, good luck on it. Nevertheless, it's still a valuable item in the razor collection. It's always a pleasure watching a shave video featuring rare shaving gems. Have a great week

I just used a blue blade in my Gillette new 3 piece open comb. Has a little crack in the handle, but works well. Did a bit of a throwback. Used the cube from PAA just in case. Then palmolive cream, 60's era everready brush, and some aquavelva. Wouldn't use the blue blade, unless I was feeling nostalgic. Get a little too much tug

That Toggle looked phenomenal, Ken! As did every other product used in this video. Creed is one of my all time favorite scents but I try not to use it too much, that way I can stretch it out a little longer.

Love the vintage Gillette commercials. I think what first turned me on to the notion of wet shaving was going to a screening of historic baseball news reels a few years ago at Ohio State's Wexner Center for the Arts. They played several of the baseball-related commercials. Looking forward to trying Stirling Soap's Executive Man which is coming in tomorrow's mail call. Everyone I've read says it is a good rendition of Aventus.

What a great all-around setup, Ken !! I love the Staffordshire scuttle, and you've once again inspired me to be on the search for one...The first thing you inspired be to buy was the crystal skull brush soaker (which I obtained at an after-Halloween clearance sale @ Home Goods for cheap !)
The Toggle is my "Holy Grail" of vintage Gillette, and I hope to acquire one some day ! I enjoy your videos every day as I ride my commuter train in to Boston. In fact, I pass by the Gillette factory every day!

Hi Ken! Nice razor. I haven't seen many people shave with a Gillette Toggle razor. The Gillette Blue blades: I like those blades and they do deliver a nice smooth shave, if you can stand the plucky feeling. They are good for two shaves in my experience. If you can get the Super Blue blades, those feel much smoother to shave with. Personally, I love the post-shave feel of a carbon blade shave. I have some Creed Aventus...very popular with most ladies...they seem to like the scent. I get told "You smell nice". Never get that with vintage Aqua Velva...lol. Thanks for sharing Ken.

I had started to think the Toggle was defective or someone stole it since you had not done the vid. What a wonderful razor. I just don't use those/any vintage blades...i don't care for them....need a very sharp blade else it all goes wrong w my scalp. Now use it w a Gillette super thin or nacet....on setting 5.... congrats: that razor is pristine....

If you like the creed aventus cologne, you should go and see how you would feel about the new adventus they made (light gray instead of black). Its a more citrusy sent, but smells much better imo

Ken the bottom dial although less popular, is much more satisfying to adjust. The toggle is cool though.
Your fat boy is mechanically more complex. Turning the dial smoothly raises the top of the razor in such a satisfying manor I can not imagine the toggle offering the same although it’s quick release mechanism is clutch I prefer the bottom dial on my aristocrat.
Man, how awesome would it be if Gillette would remake the toggle. I would love for Gillette to remake some of their old razors. Have you heard any rumors of them producing more safety razors since the release of the heritage?
