Happy Sunday Paul! Thank you Mrs. H for the lovely roses!! It is nice you are doing a comparison shave, these are always useful. I am quite positive the GSC FatGuy shave better than my 1959 Gillette FatBoy...poor FatBoy looks great yet has the habit of biting me no matter the setting. Oh, that steak...yummy. We call those Porter House steaks here; delicious no matter what it's called. SOTD: Rex Ambassador razor loaded with a PolSilver Super Iridium blade (3rd use). I adjusted the setting with each pass: WTG 3.5, XTG 2.5, and ATG 1.5. The Rex Ambassador delivered an extremely efficient shave and was very comfortable. Finished with Thayer's AF SF skin toner and 1946 Shulton Old Spice. BBS+ result. That was a nice shave from the GSC FatGuy, Paul. Enjoy that steak meal, sir. Take care.
Matt's review at Razor Emporium is very suspect. He is a direct competitor to the Fatguy, all the other RUclips wet shavers received their Fatguys in pristine working order, and Matt just so happens to get a lemon. Hmm.
@@patkaczmarek7362 I am not sure why this comment is directed at me? That being said, I did see Matt shave with the FatGuy. He said the WTG pass wasn't as smooth as the FatBoy. That is his opinion! YMMV. There was no mention of a lemon. I think the difference can be attributed to the weight of the razors, the FatBoy is heavier, so the heavier one will feel more settled on the face. His final analysis was both shave well, but he thought the FatBoy was better due to his sense of nostalgia. Again, YMMV.
But this is a brand new, 100% part for part replica that amazes everyone who tries it. I did something to bemefit the entire wet shaving community. A Fatguy that has been properly adjusted and replated would cost between $200 and $300.
I'd tell you to buy one for over $300 if it meant avoiding this absolute terrible company. Go RE or ebay. You'll get it before the rest of us even get a shipping notification.
@@sbcwinn I got 3 fat boys from ebay, one was for 20 bucks, got lucky.the other one I paid 45 and most expensive one was 60. all were in excellent condition mechanically ,two were very good condition appearance wise. the 45 dollar one got replated for $55 so under $100 bucks I got a real fat boy that looks brand new. I applaud your efforts and the fat guy is good for the hobby and no doubt it's a great shaver! just not for me.
Mat from Razor Emporium has a very good video on pros and cons on this Fatboy replica. Good thing to watch, taking into consideration he's 15+ years of experience in disassembling and revamping old Gillette Fatboys.
I dunno about Matt's review. All of the popular RUclips wet shavers received their Fatguys in pristine working order. Matt, who sell & refurbs vintage Gillette razors, which are in direct competition to the new Fatguy, just happens to get a lemon. Hmm. If anybody would have the knowledge and ability to rig a safety razor,, it's Matt. Very peculiar.
@@patkaczmarek7362 That stands correct. But on the other hand, those details about the manufacturing process gives a very good insight in the possible longevity and QC issues.
Paul nice flowers as usual👍 I'm not a big fan of knock offs and it's original for me , history is something that is important to me. I purchased my 1958 Fatboy for $35 and had it Replated in original nickel all for under $100. Looks and shaves like New and it is not a copy of someone else's design .
I have the same mindset about this subject. Plus the fact that your original fatboy still works like a charm after 62 years. I don't know if the fat guy will be such a tough guy after all.
I'm really glad you got yours and you love it. The rest of us however have been told it will ship and then be told later it will be several more weeks because (insert excuse). That story keeps getting told time and time again and I'm personally sick of hearing the excuses. If GSC can ship these to RUclipsrs than they can ship them to everyone else who has paid for them. I just got an email stating they will be shipping them in blocks of 200 over the next 4 weeks. That is ridiculous! Ship them all NOW! This is my first and last purchase from this terrible company and I will go out of my way to make sure everyone stays away from them.
Spot on. It’s a slap in the face to see these all over RUclips when the rest of us get nothing but empty promises. I tire of the Covid argument when I see them on RUclips.
Great video review Paul, and some very interesting conversation. To be honest, in my humble opinion, the negativity directed at GSC is a bit unfair. The production of this razor must have been a massive undertaking and very expensive at that. Seems like a smart business decision to get the product out and in public view the way they've done it. It's simply a matter of time before they become readily available, I wish them much success. We haven't seen a razor like this produced in decades, Ill be patient.
I'm very impressed with the chrome finish on the new Fatguy. Looking forward to taking delivery of my gold one. To those who've been put off by the wait, please keep in mind Sheldon took on the endeavor himself whereas Gillette had massive firepower back in the day, they still do. It will be worth the wait. Who knows, maybe Gillette could contract with GSC to bring back all the vintage Gillette adjustables we all know and love!? Your steak looks a good cut, Paul. T-bone is always fantastic, I trust you enjoyed it immensely. All the best from Wisconsin, USA! Stay safe everyone.
@@sbcwinn No worries my friend. Thank you very much for bringing back a classic. The gold one is for my collection, I'm also going to order a chrome one for regular duty. Fwiw, I'm a bit perplexed from Matt's review of the Fatguy over at Razor Emporium. I suspect a conflict of interest might've been the culprit.
@@kennethtucker7965 None of the other popular RUclips shavers had anything bad to say about the new Fatguy. Kensurfs, Mark Szorady and Kevy Shaves all liked it very much and were as equally impressed as PaulH. A conflict of interest is likely to blame for the critical demeanor of Matt's review, imo.
I briefly thought along those same lines. The GSC Fat Guy was manufactured with the latest techniques and assembled in Canada. Given the other RUclipsrs all received their Fatguys in pristine condition and working order, what are the odds that Matt just happened to get a lemon? He sells & refurbs vintage Gillettes, a great reason to sabotage a competitor.
I’ve been on the Global Shaving website regarding the Fatguy and it states that “final assembly “ took place in Canada, which presumably means the product was made in China. Unless a product of this kind was made in U.K., Germany, Canada or U.S.A. I don’t think you’re going to get a quality razor.
MOTD is fried flounder with lemon juice, tomato rice with lots of parsley and lettuce salad with lots of onion. For drinks a Portuguese white wine. Nice shave as usual and wonderful flowers. Have a nice sunday Paul and Mrs H.

That T-bone dinner MOTD was mouth-watering. And Mrs. H's flower arrangement was stunning, as you like to say. Take care.
@@TheDobbermn That's odd. Mine arrived at the Atlanta, GA USPS distribution center yesterday. So, I'm expecting to receive it on Tuesday, the 24th. It looks like "free" shipping from Canada takes about two weeks. Not surprising. My deliveries from China take a month.
Hello Paul, Interesting video of the FatGuy razor, btw, have you had the same faults has Matt Pisarcik from Razor Emporium, with the "barn doors" not aligned? All the best
Mat, though fair in his review, does make a lot of money selling referbished Fatboys, usually for about $200. Mat also tested a preproduction model to be fair.
I have a lot of razors, one better than the other, I love them all, I don't know where to shave. But. Fat Boi is the Philosopher's Stone, the I ching of wet shaving with DE blade.

You do NOT have to open it to adjust it. You DO have to unlock the head, just like the 1960 Fatboy. When you relock the head the blade gap changes. Paul, thanks for a wonderful video. Enjoy yur new Fatguy.
A short comment NOT about the FatGuy. The reason Styptic is better for cuts compared to Alum is that styptic pencils contain a "coagulant" which causes blood to clot thus bleeding stops. Alum constricts pores(tightens skin and is a mild antiseptic) but does not coagulate blood. Mystery solved.
Hi Paul, have you and Kevy been on the phone because he did the fatboy followed by alum. Great video BTW. Have a look at Foodwishes channel on RUclips because he does a killer gravy for steak and pork chops using sherry. See you soon
I was really really close to getting the “Fat guy” but the basically the pros out weighed the cons when I thought about it. I was already way past the point at downsizing my collection anyway. If I had a RUclips channel I’d definitely get it and review it though but I already have a nice Gillette Adjustable collection 1970 super 84 (short handle) black beauty 1964 Slim Adjustable 1959 $1.95 Adjustable (FatBoy) I had a long handle black beauty but sold it about a year ago to Julio that sadly just passed away recently. Fatguy is a very good razor. Fatboy is a very good razor. Fatguy is made from a more costly alloy and is in every way a 1960 Fatboy. It does weigh less because our alloy is lighter and stronger.
@@sbcwinn I don’t dispute any of what you say Sheldon but for me your razors are imitations and for those who want them they are great but I much prefer the originals, and I don’t have the cost and inconvenience of having them shipped over to the U.K. to contend with either. I do however wish you continued success.
@@stevenscott5073 Not exactly. We try to reimagine what a certain razor would be like if it were still being made today. They all have differences, improvements, changes, etc. It is only the Fatguy that is a part for part replica, and even it has some improvements. The alloy we use didn't exist in the 1960s. Its lighter and stronger.
@@sbcwinn oh don’t misunderstand me Sheldon I’ve no quarrel with what your doing. I am happy with the razors I have. I have nothing against your razors or your company financially I just can’t justify the additional expense of shipping and importing to the U.K. when I’ve got plenty of razors to choose from already in my shave den.. I personally have not purchased anything from outside the U.K. this year due to importing and shipping costs rising something I’m sure will get worse with Brexit. Fortunately I can get every thing I need for my shaves this side of the pond.
PS: There have been several comments critical to GSC on the FatGuy promotion and late delivery. I ordered mine about 4 months ago and it was shipped this week. Sheldon has sent out FatGuy updates from time to time to those who ordered early. Sure, it has been frustrating each time we were notified of yet another delay. But I've never felt like GSC was hiding anything from me. Sometimes things like pandemics, fires, and water damage add up to a perfect storm of delays and disappointment. After Paul's (and others) review I am even more anxious to finally get a chance to shave with the FatGuy.
It’s great you received updates, I never heard a word from any of my messages sent. I understand about the problems they had and heard from the shaving channels but would have been nice to have gotten a response from GSC and for that reason I will never buy from them again.
seems a pity to pay over the odds for what is essentially just a copy when there are plenty of originals out there. I'd be more impressed with a whole new razor design , Pearl for example is one. If anyone could make a great copy of a fatboy it would bethe Gillete 'Experts', Razor emporium, but they didn't even try, fair play to them.. Instead they designed and built the 'Rex' instead which is all stainless not just brass and 'some alloy' or other.

Greetings. I have a King C. Should I really use it or just keep it as a piece of memorabilia. You seem like a dependable person who can give an honest review. May you have many good shavers and you and all you know stay various free.
@@pathennessey6274 I am fairly new to traditional wet shaving after 30+ years of cartridges. I bought the King C Gillette on a whim when I saw it in the supermarket. I am very impressed with it, particularly if you need a mild razor like I do
@@northofenglandoutdoors6557
Thank you. I bought the razor just to let Gillette know that we are interested. Wasn’t sure of the quality of the product. Thank you very much for the reply. May you have many good shaves.
Great vid as always. I use those two Nivea products for 80% of my weekday work shaves. Quick and convenient. I go for more interesting stuff at the weekend when I've got more time to faff about.
Very good comparison Paul thanks ! fantastiic shave 💈💈 all the best from France
I got mine today, I see the chrome on the bottom of yours is like mine, kind of 'wavey' ...hope it doesn't bubble and flake.
Just bought this one a couple of weeks ago and did a comparison of this with my ‘61 fatboy and found them to shave exactly alike as well. I was wondering if you could do another shave with the fat guy in the near future?
Excellent video Paul. Have a Fat Guy on order snd am in queue. Was hoping for just this kind of review by you. Hope you enjoyed your t-bone Sunday roast. Cheers.
I don't know which I like better...the shave or the recipe for dinner!!💈🪒🥩🍽😁
HI Paul GOOD review as usual i think the Fatguy may be in my future! i watched you use the shave stick and you got a great lather i have never been so lucky.may have to try using one again! Cheers
All the best Paul, thanks for a great review of the FatGuy , I have one on order from Global shave club ( you know how it is ) and are looking forward to receiving it , mrs H flowers lovely hope you both are keeping well thank you 👍🏻🏴💈🪒
nice video Paul,very beautiful razor!!!
Thanks Paul ... now I have to spend more money to buy a new razor ...lol . the T-bone looks great , nice marbling . breakfast today will be blueberry pancakes with Canadian bacon ! enjoy Your day
Thanks very much for the comparison and a great shave! Enjoy the steak dinner!
Thanks for increasing the aggression of the razor to demonstrate the effectiveness of alum vs styptic pencil
La Toja shave stick lathered with a Graydog Spalted Maple 26 mm synthetic brush. I forget just how luxurious the La Toja lather truly is...wow. Tradition 3 pass plus pick-ups shave.
Very nice Paul. Hope all is well👍👍Great Goatee
Morning Paul very nice shave have a. Safe week god bless
Loos cool but if I am going to spend North of $100 US, it wont be on a replica. Great video Mr. H!
Great video Paul
Paul nice flowers as usual👍
I'm not a big fan of knock offs and it's original for me , history is something that is important to me.
Sunday dinner is . Roast beef joint with home made roasted pototoes and a Savoy cabbage. Washed down with some Speckled hen bèer.
The gold ones are held up a bit. You will have your razor (even nicer than the chrome....) around the end of the month.
@@nicetna2010 Matt's observations were technical and hard to dispute.
Very nice shave sir. Great comparison between both razors. I’d still stick to my original Fatboy.
Like a kid in a sweetie shop😂 Great to see you had so much fun and enjoyment with your Fatguy. Nice steak, shame about the Carling!
MOTD is fried flounder with lemon juice, tomato rice with lots of parsley and lettuce salad with lots of onion. For drinks a Portuguese white wine. Nice shave as usual and wonderful flowers. Have a nice sunday Paul and Mrs H.
Excellent review. The comparison video clip was a perfect addition. My FatGuy has been shipped and I should get it this week. Think I'll use my Nivea body soap stick to "replicate" your shave. That T-bone dinner MOTD was mouth-watering. And Mrs. H's flower arrangement was stunning, as you like to say. Take care.
Don’t hold your breath. Mine “shipped” on the 11th and there is still nothing on tracking other than they printed a label.
@@BartBuzz Yeah, mine still just says its in pre shipment. It's said that since the 11th.
Where did you buy it?
And how much was it?
Hello Paul, Interesting video of the FatGuy razor, btw, have you had the same faults has Matt Pisarcik from Razor Emporium, with the "barn doors" not aligned?
All the best
Mat, though fair in his review, does make a lot of money selling referbished Fatboys, usually for about $200. Mat also tested a preproduction model to be fair.
I ordered me 1 to give it a go.
I have a lot of razors, one better than the other, I love them all, I don't know where to shave. But. Fat Boi is the Philosopher's Stone, the I ching of wet shaving with DE blade.
Hope you enjoyed your curry on toast? I'm waiting for my Fatguy to arrive. So I really enjoyed your video. SOTD. Gillette black beauty (short handle) Rapira blade. Yaqi Mokka brush. TOBS cedarwood cream. Alum block. Florida water cologne. Nivea balm. MOTD. Roast chicken. Stuffing. Cabbage. Boiled potatoes. Carrots and lashentos of gravy. Washed down with Abbot ale. Hope you and Mrs. H enjoy the rest of your weekend.
does Paul ever reply to comments??
You do NOT have to open it to adjust it. You DO have to unlock the head, just like the 1960 Fatboy. When you relock the head the blade gap changes. Paul, thanks for a wonderful video. Enjoy yur new Fatguy.
The goatee is coming in nicely
If I had a RUclips channel I’d definitely get it and review it though but I already have a nice Gillette Adjustable collection
1970 super 84 (short handle) black beauty
1964 Slim Adjustable
1959 $1.95 Adjustable (FatBoy)
I had a long handle black beauty but sold it about a year ago to Julio that sadly just passed away recently. Great review Paul!

MOTD spaghetti and meat sauce 😍
Sorry Paul, the newone razor, it is nothing to do with the original ! for me of course.👋
seems a pity to pay over the odds for what is essentially just a copy when there are plenty of originals out there.
Zing of stings Paul.
Only 100 times the price of the original
