Welcome to Our French Chateau!
We are Amanda and Lincoln. With our two daughters and pets in tow, we moved across the world from our home in San Francisco California to buy and restore a petite chateau on 40 acres in the beautiful French countryside of Brittany.
Our channel documents our triumphs and failures in restoring the 19th-century Chateau de Lingourdy. We plan to return the gardens, cottages and barns to their former glory (on a tight budget) and open them up for events and luxurious stays to the public. So if you're interested in observing daily life through the eyes of an American family whose French language skills are quite lacking and who have amassed a menagerie that includes cats, dogs, and donkeys. Amanda, your dry humor is addictive, and Lincoln's shy ways and ability to fix and rebuild anything are quite endearing. What was most impressive with this episode was your color sense and graphic selection of darks and whites have produced a mix of elegant restraint with a slathering of dry humor (hand motif). I love the bathroom. It’s elegant. Pure elegance! I wish there could be before and after videos every week. I’m sure you’re cursing me right now because there is so much hard work. Involved just to get one room done and we get to enjoy it in less than 20 minutes. But I watched every video throughout the process, and I look forward to many more from you two Funny. Agrre with all that was said before me. Love your honesty and dry wit, and love how Lincoln always laughs with you. That was some dang hard restructural work Lincoln diid. And you finished it off with simple uncluttered tiles. And the little hand theme wasthe icing on the cake besides the armoire and chandelier. The reno gods were with you!!

The armoire in the bathroom is a great choice. It's amazing for how little money you can find the most gorgeous armoires in France! The bathroom has come together beautifully.

I like your mix of modern and traditional. It seems like plumbing is one of the ubiquitous problems for chateaux. Chateau de Purnon is having to run new drains because the mid-century ones were run down the exterior walls (not okay for a Monument Historique). Someone said (was it you?) that "water is the biggest issue - keeping it out, getting it in, draining it away, etc."
You are incredibly courageous and gifted in so many different craftmanships. Just stunning !!!

I’ve watched this episode a number of times and it amazes me how much of a transformation that you both were able to accomplish. The hand motif is fantastic and the changes to the armoire are on point.
Your bathroom is an absolute triumph! Gorgeous!! I love the colour, the fixtures, the layout, everything.
The cabinet is stunning and your treatment of the inside is well thought out. In my opinion you should leave the outside of the cabinet, "as is " the patina shows age and it gives a look of authenticity and history. So that can be crossed of your to-do list, so you can focus on the windows! I do the painting at my house (a lot smaller), so you have my sympathy although it is very satisfying work. The bathroom looks amazing. It’s beautiful. I love the armoire the way it is, the earthy tones of the wood add to the beauty of the room. Feel so bad for Lincoln he looks like a man whose left it all on the field with all he’s been through. Not easy on you as well. We started renovating our beach cottage in February 2020 moving the kitchen to the back of the house. Then Covid so getting supply’s etc…. Nightmare. Then back on track in 2022. My husband like Lincoln does 98% of the work here had a heart attack. He’s always been healthy, very unexpected. So thankfully he is doing well. Then just as we are near the end of the kitchen from hell he injures himself ( long story) and now for two months can’t lift over 5 lbs . So he can’t even put a cast iron pan on the stove 😉. I hope one day we will love the kitchen as we envisioned we would when we started. I love your channel, you both are so relatable.

It's one room at a time for 40 years for us. Now very retired it's sitting in a chair and thinking we have to start again? We just renewed our upstairs bathroom and I think the living room needs a refresher. Well, maybe the next family can do that. Grandma and Grandpa have done enough. Very pretty. I would have had all the fixtures in the shower and the faucets brass since you were using brass. I’m not into the mixed metals. 🤷♀️ Why not paint the window hardware brass?

I can’t even describe how beautiful that bathroom wardrobe is!! I love the timber in the new bathroom. It reminds me of devol kitchens which mix timber and marble and tiles too. It’s a stunning piece you’ve found, and perfect size too! Well done. And yes to leaving the old, worn stain. I’ve just done a very budget kitchen reno (on a regular sized house, not a chateau😂) and mixed an antique timber hall cupboard and sideboard with new cabinetry and faux marble benchtops and new tiled splashback (but old looking. White basket weave). It looks good mixed in with the beautiful timber with age and patina. I say definitely keep the wardrobe as is. It has so much character and adds another layer of character to the beautiful bathroom.
