The male icons of Japanese metal. Taiji the bass player in this and "hide" (pronounced hid-eh) the lead guitarist on the right of screen have both passed away. Hiroshi Morie (Heath) took over as main bass player of X-Japan and sadly he has now passed away due to cancer on Oct29. Rest in peace to you all. The story of hide is also something to look into. He was the one who created the visual Kai look of the band and also had a pretty good solo career.65,000 people attended his funeral in 1998.

Hide was something else...metal samurai as I call it, the looks, the talent and a good heart towards the fans,, even after he died the band members kept introducing him as the guitarist during the live shows (they even used holograms but stopped becasue it was too painful for them), he'll always be a part of X Japan, people still come to his memorial concerts, how many artists are loved like that after passing away? When I feel down I always listen to "Tell Me" by Hide, his smile and music make me feel better, even though he's been gone for over 25 years. BTW, some people say "November Rain by GNR was inspired by X Japan's ballad "Endless Rain

X Japan is like the godfather of rock and metal music in Japan.. Babymetal song Akatsuki is belived to be a tribute to this song Kurenai. its funny you mention Marlyn Manson because the drummer of X Japan Yoshiki is best friends with Manson they have perform together many times.

Definitely check out more X-Japan!! They are the godfathers of Japanese rock, every band after looks up to them. They are amazing, complex, tragic, and one of the best things to ever happen in my life. I have been a fan of them since around 1995/6. I recommend listening to them chronologically. You will not regret it!

I grew up in New England and was a teenager in the 80’s. I kick myself that I was not aware of X Japan. I discovered their music about 10 years ago and they are hands down my favorite band. Consider watching Blue Blood, Silent Jealously, Rose of Pain, and X. Always watch live shows. It’s also really fun to watch old vs newer live videos to see their changes to their sound and style.

Thanks for reacting to MY favorite song of all time. X Japan is so underrated. Unfortunately they also have had very bad luck. 3 of their members have passed and the lead singer left the band after being brainwashed by a cult. It sounds crazy I know. If you ever have the opportunity to watch their documentary called We Are X, it’s worth the watch. 🤘🏻

X and Loudness are probably the two biggest metal bands from Japan, Loudness actually started in the late 70's, and are more like Japan's version of Van Halen.

Nice reaction man, it's good to see a reaction for their savage era. I've been a fan for 23 years, I even had a band that tried to play their songs. This is my favorite era of theirs, after that, they changed their direction for a clean visual, clean voice, and soft songs, but all was still good. I saw them live in 2011 in Brazil; it was my dream come true!

This could be easily a BabyMetal fan suggestion if you would have watch Akatsuki live at Budokan 2014 first because trust me that's an spiritual successor and BM got some others songs (not covers) as a tribute to X-Japan and especially Yoshiki (drummer, pianist and composer of this group) in songs such "Headbanger!!" and "No Rain No Rainbow", he's a living legend and almost like a semi-god among Japanese, and you can see totally why.
The intro when Toshi the singer said "Kurenai daaa!" was borrowed by SuMetal when she also sings Akatsuki, btw kurenai means "crimson" or in reference to deep red color while akatsuki means "red moon" or crimson moon.
There are other live versions of this that give you even more chills when there's a crowd interaction.
Wait to hear more songs like Endless Rain, and if you got the guts then "Art Of Life" is waiting for you, just remember to go to the bathroom first and have a bottle of water near you lol
I know nothing about other bands doing cover of this, all I know is BM it's one of the first giving respect to this band and clearly got some inspiration.
    See you around.🤘🔥

      X Japan
Best ever heavy metal band you did not know !!!!
Also the GODPARENTS OF Japanese metal they cracked the door open then BABYMETAL KICKED OUT THE HINGES
BABYMETAL has two direct tribute songs to X Japan
KURENAI has AKATSUKIE from BABYMETAL a SU solo
ENDLESS RAIN has NO RAIN NO RAINBOW from BABYMETAL another SU solo.
      ALSO X Japan
Last concert when they broke up was on DECEMBER 31st 1997 just days after SUSUKA NAKAMOTO WAS BORN
      On December 20th 1997
The Stars 🌟 aligned not a coincidence.
The third song is HEADBANGER WHERE SU GETS THE NECKBRASE FROM THE FOX GOD
One of BABYMETALS most important songs ever,
      You need to react to
Endless rain from the last live
      It is insane
      Then react to
NO RAIN NO RAINBOW LIVE PLEASE
      🙏
The girls have great respect and admiration for
      X

Yup, I had to go back in time after following Babymetal to learn about X-Japan. Amazing band and I love the, “Last Live” performance of this song. Now I’ll have to watch your Nemophila reaction, but I can predict it. Tamu could easily be Yoshiki’s daughter, LOL.

What amuses me is that everyone in that audience has black hair, as at that time bleaching one’s hair was outside of societal norms, even for Metal heads. It’s funny because less than ten years later, virtually every woman in Japan had “chapatsu” (brown hair).
SHOW-YA, the original all-female band in Japan, were contemporaries of X-Japan. Watch the OMV for WATSHI WA ARASHI (I Am The Storm) and NEMOPHILA’s cover.

I'm glad you watched the original before Nemo's version. For me, a timeless masterpiece of a song. 🔥🤘🏻
Make sure to watch 'The Last Live' version in a quiet minute without the camera. Goosebumps from start to finish I just say. :)
X Japan is/was a so-called "Visual Kai" band, hence the exaggerated hairstyles and make-up. I think you can compare them to Metallica or the like and see them as the fathers of Japanese metal, whose influence will be felt for many generations of Japanese bands to come or the ones we see/hear and love today. For example, drummer Yoshiki who you see in action here is also the drummer who later played only with a neck brace that is referenced in some of of Babymetal's videos/performances.

Great reaction. X Japan, godfathers of Japanese metal and (I think) creators of 'Visual Kai'. I remember seeing them in the 80s (not in person, must have been on TV) and thinking they had seen glam rock (or hair metal as it was known in the US) and had gone a bit over the top with the styling.
X Japan are legendary of course and the drummer (also founding member, pianist and main composer) Yoshiki is a national treasure. They also sold out the Tokyo Dome 18 times I think it was, they were that big.
BABYMETAL pay homage to X Japan and Yoshiki in many ways - the neck brace they use so often for example - Yoshiki damaged his neck headbanging and had to have surgery and to wear a neck brace for a long time.
BABYMETAL's song 'Akatsuki' is also heavily influenced by 'Kurenai' - another Su-metal solo 'No Rain, No Rainbow' is their homage to X Japan's 'Endless Rain'.
I'm so glad you watched the original before seeing Nemophila's cover which I know you will love - it is possibly the best of the covers they've done.
