By 1923, fifteen iconic baseball stadiums had been built so fans could enjoy America's wonderful pastime. By the time this documentary was filmed, four of those fifteen ballparks remained standing as they had when they were first built (without experiencing any upgrades): Comiskey Park, Fenway Park, Tiger Stadium, and Wrigley Field. Jeff Daniels hosts this inside-look at the legendary Wrigley Field told by those who knew it the best.

Saw several ballgames there as a kid during the 60s. What great memories.
Still the greatest sports stadium I've ever set foot in. Wrigley Field is my happy place.
I liked old Comiskey better, and Fenway the best of the old parks.

Went to a couple games there while in town. Infield seats. Back then, compared to Fenway, they were a bargain.
First time around , actually my first seat in ball game, brought by a work colleague, got to see Sammy Sosa against the Brewers, back then they looked like a bunch of kids from the minors . It was s cold misty, and windy day , we were behind home plate. I got to talk to a knowledgeable senior citizen and his grandkids. No home runs from Mr Sosa.
Second time I went on my own. Against Toronto. Derek Lee and Aramis Ramirez were the sluggers. Sunny afternoon. Sat around on infilled seats lower deck by third base.
Concourse was tight, and restrooms were crammed.
Loved the experience.
Put a trip to Wrigley field on your bucket list. You won't regret it. Plus Chicago has a lot of other things to see and do.

Even if one hates the Cubs, one has got to take in a game for once in their life at the shrine of a ballpark like Wrigley Field.
I'm a Twins fan and it's defiantly on my bucket list to make the drive to Wrigley and watch the Twinkies take on the Cubbies during some interleague play. I'd love to see Fenway too but Chicago is much closer to the Twin Cities.👍😃⚾

@@zacharybinx8642 Definitely do that. I went to a Twins vs Cubs game at Wrigley back in 2009, and it was one of my favorite baseball experiences of all time, which includes game 163 at the dome that same year. Chicago is an excellent city, and Wrigley is something every baseball fan should experience.
I’m very grateful or Wrigley Field. It’s my favorite place to watch baseball. No matter what renovations they make, it’s always Wrigley Field. It’s heaven.
They couldn't have found a better host than Jeff Daniels. From what I know of him is that he is a real baseball fanatic and this is probably a labor of love for him. I believe he is a Tiger fan. I wonder how he feels about Tiger Stadium? I think I know.......

I miss my Tiger Stadium in Detroit....
Used to take the train from the NW suburbs to Wrigley and sit in the left field bleachers with the bums for $3. Most memorable game was the Big Red Machine with big time HR hitters like Johnny Bench and George Foster on their side. 9 HRs in the game, 5 by Cincinnati, 4 by the Cubs. The Cubs won 10-9

every player interviewed was a hall of famer. went to my first game ever here in May 1969, against the Mets....the hated Mets.

That would be so cool to have a apartments over looking the stadium . I will deck my deck out like a luxury suite and plenty of beer for my countless friends I bet I would have . Lol
They damn near ruined wrigley field with those changes. They should have left it the way it was. I don't know why they felt the need to make it look modern, but it looks all mangled now.
@@SteelRhinoXpress If that's the case then the Cubs should have abandoned Wrigley Field and built a stadium out in the suburbs. They HAD to make the modifications to the ballpark not only to stay competitive, but to keep the place from falling apart. The Cubs, as we know, were notorious at being holdouts. They were the last major league team to add lights to their stadium. In that case just like today, they pretty much held out until they absolutely HAD TO make the changes!
Personally, I felt Ricketts should have been more aggressive in getting the renovations made. He should have threatened to move the team if it didn't go as planned. That means the ballpark would have been abandoned. It would have fallen apart and all the businesses surrounding the area would have folded because, let's face it, they rely on the Cubs and Wrigley Field to stay in business. Now I was never in favor of this. I have always wanted the Cubs to stay at Wrigley, but I would have loved to have seen what would have happened in an alternate reality where this takes place. Who knows? In thirty, forty years this situation may again occur, and maybe Wrigley will then be at the point where it can't reinvent itself and therefore, has to be replaced. Of course, by that time, who even knows if major league baseball will still be around.
No they didn't they could have just restored it without making all these modifications to it to make it look the way that it did. Go look a the red soxs Fenway park, that's a prime example of how you can restore something without screwing it up.

I was going to visit Chicago the same week. I have tickets to the two games against Baltimore, plus the Monday game against Cincinnati. I am heartbroken.

Wrigley Field is a phenomenal ballpark. Seeing the ivys, food, and all... it is absolutely an incredible experience. I was so grateful that it finally had the renovation and it looks 10x better with the video jumbotron to see the "instant replay." If Fenway Park can have a video jumbtron, so does "The Friendly Confines." It was way overdue for the renovation to keep up with the 21st Century, and now it's in the U.S. National Historic Landmark status.
They tried to mix and old and new unsuccessfully. Fenway blended old and new seamlessly.
Is Wrigley Field still there? Or has it been knocked down in favor of condos?

That was a very sad season. I spent most of my summer there. Have hated the NY Mutts ever since.
@@alicebergerom1429 as a Mets fan or what you call the "Mutts", yeah the Mets screwed over the Cubs in the Pennant race of 1969, and in 2015 swept the Cubs in the NLCS.

This is how I want to remember Wrigley Field not the one with the oversized scoreboards and signage that the Ricketts shamelessly felt they needs to bring in for more money
The recent renovations ruined that place. The people sitting on the roofs across the street. Ball being hit into the street are all gone . Thanks for nothing!!
