Pusifer - Money Shot *really* reminds me of this first album for some reason. It does more for me than the other APC albums. ...and I love Mer De Noms. One of my favourite albums of all times. It's probably the album I've listened to mostly overall.
Some amazing musicians on this one.. Maynard, Billy Howerdel, Josh Freese.. really impressive piece of work. That entire album is fantastic. One of my all time favorites. “ The hollow” is one of the best rock songs ever written in my opinion.
Believe me or not, these videos are incredibly meditative to watch. Next time I get myself some coffee I should just turn one of these on and sit back in my chair.
one of the best hard rock songs of all time.. so dope to be able to hear all these tracks isolated. Especially those guitars!! Top 10 best tones ever!! Thanks for the vid, dude 🤘🏼
This was huge, man. I love how you dive down into every little nuance. Like tasting for different notes in a cigar and picking them all out. I also never heard that big scream in all of its glory the way you can hear it hear... really have me a much deeper appreciation of not only the music, but production of the song. Amazing.
Aww yiss, one of my favourite songs. Man I love this series and you're doing such a great job dissecting those tracks, on a technical and emotional level, really something special here. Love that you talked about the meaning of the song at the beginning aswell
After many years today I listened to this song and been thinking on how amazingly he sang it... And now I'm shocked seeing you uploaded this video in the exact same time. Like, WOW, Chris, you're reading my mind or what? 🤔😄
Yeah man I know what you mean about the big note at the end, I've always focused on that and tbh never really 'heard' those harmonies over the top, so great to hear isolated and also just an awesome texture in what was already an awesome vocal performance, pure class. Thanks for another great vid Chris 🤘
I'm glad you clarified it was the edited version so quickly; for a second I was like, "Did I just hear what I wanted to hear all these years??? @_@" hahahaha. Great video, as usual! 🎶 🤟 Rock onnn!!!
I love the jumping back and forth between the heavily compressed almost scream to the really clean: THANK YOUR GOD your lord your christ HE DID THIS took what you had and... Love doing this at karaoke bars, it's challenging and if you can pull it off people flip out.
If I do it with false chords it’s possible if I’m careful with breath control. I played this song with some guys and I kept trying to get the guitarist to do the second part but it was a no-go. Took me practicing about 9 months nearly every day to be able to do it. If you can do it with the tone Maynard/Billy can total respect to you.
Found your channel about a month ago and I binge-watched almost every single one. Your videos are awesome and super entertaining! I hope you are doing well sir, thank you for these amazing analysis!
Great isolated vocal video. The guitars were cool too. Amazing what they did with the vocals that would not have been identified when hearing the song with all the instruments.
Thanks for the great breakdown, Chris! As a fellow human, I understand Maynard’s pain, anger and frustration; as a redeemed sinner I understand better that Judith is now experiencing the weight and bliss of glory! May he know it too…
I have followed Maynard’s career for over 25 years-it could be said that he once had much animosity towards whatever form of Christianity he experienced growing up and witnessed from his mother’s church-but I have never heard him announce that he is an atheist. A person can be critical of religion without being an atheist, just as a person can be an ordained minister in Christendom and in fact be an atheist, as French priest Jean Meslier was a perfect example of. Meslier also sexually preyed upon servants, which is another example that religion isn’t the issue, it’s men’s hearts. Christ didn’t make him abuse people, Meslier’s own wicked heart decided that.
Cool. Subscribed. I found that really interesting. Certainly one of my favourite vocal performances ever put on a record and a fantastic song that as you say you really can identify with.
What surprised me was hearing the vocal stem at the end where that high vocal phrase was much cleaner than I originally thought. Before then, I thought Maynard did a vocal fry on the highs at that part but he was actually only putting some heat on the low part while singing totally clean on that high note!
This song got me in to APC, Tool and somewhat Pucifer. Thought I recognized Maynards voice in "Parabola" and I was hooked. This song is so amazing both musically and meaning.
Love this man, you know I have been with you a long time I love the breakdown stuff like this. Also, you hit me in the feels with one of my favorite songs. Looking forward to more good shit as always. I need to catch up on some of your recent content. But I appreciate the broader musical analysis here. Love you man, you're my go-to.
Too often do I throw on this song when I need to get situational anger out, Maynard's history with this song is another strong connection to this track. If there was any of their songs that deserves this level of analysis, it's Judith.
The songs isn't about asking why tragic things happen, its about his mother' unbending faith in Jesus, despite his supposed allowing and causing of her suffering.
I can relate to your opening thing as to the lyrical question and painful content as to Why and wtf!! My late wife and i loved this song and Maynards lyrical writings , but just killer tune all around ..great overall timbre , drum trax, guitar trax everything about it rules!!!
This and The Outsider I think are my favorite Maynard vocal performances. Everything about this song is great though, especially the music video where it doesn't really show their faces at all and things like Lenchantin fixing her hair in the middle of the guitar solo really gives the feeling that they're just jamming in a garage
The thing that’s always awesome about an isolated Maynard is the weird textural stuff he does on certain lines that you CANNOT hear in the recording. Parabola is a great example: the first chorus “all this pain is an illuuuUUuuUusionnnnnn”. He does some weird note runs there that you can’t even pick up otherwise. He’s a master
maybe its just me since i have been listening to his voice since undertow but i never failed to hear those runs on parabola even form the first time i put it in the CD player. I feel like its pretty prominent in the complete track
Hope your doing good Chris, I love these vocal track breakdowns you are doing and being able to hear what someone like MJK is doing technique wise and being able to really listen and pick it apart. Also if you haven't heard yet RICK BEATO just interviewed MJK on his channel and what he had to say was very interesting. He always wants to sing in a way he hasn't before, I won't give anymore away but you should check out out, I think it's 55 min interview. 🤘
I've found a really interesting way to actually get a similar duality of tones in my bass recordings by running mine through a solid state 8" regular guitar combo amp. I use some pretty basic passive jazz pickups on my 4 string and then run it straight into the amp with a rhythm channel and a tiny bit of gain on it. The lower strings immediately overdrive the speaker but the higher notes are able to stay crisp and well defined. I've kept my solid state combo amp specifically for recording bass parts because my primary instrument is guitar. But I run my guitar into an all tube Peavy 6505 head (with a tube screamer before the input) with a 15w 8ohm celestion greenback cab. It gives me the headspace on cleans but that speaker is phenomenal at riding the line for rhythm and then snapping into screaming distortion. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't really want to try and mic either amp up for a gig because it probably wouldn't maintain the same characteristics through a PA. But recording with both of those amps makes my life a LOT easier. I mean, they're not carrying nearly enough ass to play live like my old Mesa Road King, but I'm also not gigging at all anymore. I just record stuff for me and play for friends/family. But seeing the look on people's faces when I tell them that I literally record full songs in my basement with less than $3k in all of my gear (including guitars, amps, track recorders, effects, editing, and a full 5/6 piece acoustic drum kit.)
What is the 8" solid state amp that you use? I have an old Radio Shack 15W amp that I love for the same reason. I don't record music, but I like the sound of the higher bass notes through it.
@@insanejughead it's an older Orange Crush that has some mediocre digital effects built in. I found it for pretty cheap to use with headphones when the kids were asleep. I decided to see how the effects sounded with a bass one day and was shocked at how much more versatile it was for bass than it was for guitar. It's a really cool, cheap amp for my very limited use l ok l
15:51 that first high note on the final backing harmony sounds like Paz Lenchantin. She is credited in the liner notes on the album for the vocals on this track, and this is the moment where I can really hear it prominently.
As a kid I didn’t like this song, the religious lyrics made me uncomfortable. But once I grew up and gave it a chance, I fell in love with it! It’s always the song I think of when asked what a prefect song is.
Hey Chris, so glad I found your channel. I’m a long time singer who got discouraged during the pandemic and completely stop singing for at least a year. Before I was easily able to sing stuff from Maynard, Chris Cornell, and Thom York. Now, it’s just gone. Any advice on getting it back? Thanks and keep up the great work.
Interesting video throughly enjoyed it like your Bass comments 😀 do you think Paz being classically trained offers that crunch sound 🤔? The difference between a Male female ? .
Is the snare triggered? That might be why it's not totally lined up. This era is pretty notorious for everybody using triggered samples, even with monsters like Josh Freese.
The auto subtitles does something weird at 11:32, what's the word ? can't hear anything else now ! Great video nonetheless, love hearing APC tracks stem by stem, seems so simple yet so intricate, keep up the good work Chris, cheers.
Really wish APC had stuck more to this style. Amazing music.

Word! I respect every artist's desire to evolve nad expand their style, but man, was this one hell of a debut album.
They're doing just fine. Not everything has to be alt/metal. They're older. Not much left to scream about
Some amazing musicians on this one.. Maynard, Billy Howerdel, Josh Freese.. really impressive piece of work. That entire album is fantastic. One of my all time favorites. “ The hollow” is one of the best rock songs ever written in my opinion.
And Paz Lenchantin on bass 🤘🏼
@@RK_peace That's true! Paz is an awesome musicist!
Agreed! One of my all time favourites 🔥

This whole album is…perfect. Definitely in my top 3. It’s totally nuts when you discover it was recorded in a garage in 1999.
These sessions are amazing. Honestly, I find them very valuable, with a lot of production and singing techniques/tricks to learn from. Thanks Chris,
Glad you like them!
One of the best songs in their library…a true test of time. Beautiful.
This is the way to listen to music. Now everyone can appreciate this fantastic piece of art even more. Thank you, Chris!
That’s definitely Billy singing some of those long background (synth like) reverbic vox! I can just hear him. Killer breakdown Chris thanks for this

One of the best songs ever. Great to hear these tracks isolated.
I love that the video for Judith was directed by David Fincher.
I have the honor of being the guy that recorded Maynard's first attempt at singing a song he wrote lyrics for. 1987 or so, on my Tascam 4 track!
OHHHH.. NICE :) !! Some good stories?

Mine is 3 libras when he sings “you don’t see me, you don’t see me at all”
14:45 I just love the way he sings this line, it's so powerful.
yea the center panning is great for hard rock and metal for the main guitars because by contrast it lets the leads really glow.
