    Little fun fact about this song: When Corey had it all written out and ready to go, he was having a bit of a crisis when deciding whether to have it be a Slipknot or Stone Sour song. It got so bad that he was going to trash the song altogether. Paul Gray was the one who told him he'd struck gold, and that no matter what, he should see it through.

    • @MissDillinger1
      @MissDillinger1 2 года назад +15

      There is an interview Corey did at TFW in 2021 saying that he actually wrote the song specifically for Slipknot, not expecting the band to actually use it 😊

      Another correction if you excuse me, Corey said that it was joey who said this song was good and decided to put it on the album

      I just listened to this for the first time. It sounds very Stone Sour, but I agree with the idea that the song needed to be released, no matter which band released it

    • @MarcioNovelli

      That is how you know there are too many similarities between your two main projects when you can’t decide which project it belongs to or the song sounds like it can be interchangeable.

    Getting to hear one of Slipknot's slower and more cerebral songs multi-track is absolutely badass. The sounds are each so textured and unique, it's almost like you can't catch it all together even if you want to... Masked, in a sense. Love it!

    great song. i remember using it years ago to set my mind to the right state for reading a book. so this eventually turned the tune into an unofficial soundtrack for so many of them for quite a long period of time in my life - for everything from Philip K. Dick to King, Orwell, etc, etc, etc.
    Now when I think of it - I remember that it was kinda funny when people occasionally asked me “how do you get yourself to read” back then, something changed in their look when I started my answer with a phrase “well, there’s this Slipknot song…” looool.
    also, can’t avoid giving a credit to your commentary on this one, Chris. production- and songwriting/performance-wise - straight dead on point with everything you mentioned. but that honestly applies to every piece of content you have on the channel. that’s really what educational contribution to the community and society in general is. thanks for it!
    no doubt, this man knows what he’s talking about, everybody!

    4:32 I'm not sure if I have remembered the sound correctly, but the bass reminds me of an example I read in a book by Thomas Juth about the Neve 1073. It was some Neve low-end magic trick where you boost the lowest frequency possible on the Neve 1073 (around 35 Hz) and then do the reverse with a second Neve (or Scheps 73 as I tried) on a bass. It sounds very tangy. I should probably research the engineer/producer and studio use for this to see if they have one there or used one to work out whether I was close with this guess.

      Just finished your The Weeknd's, "Blinding Light," analysis. It was great! Follow-up request: If you could analyze one of his songs where he does more vocal gymnastics?
      Another interesting one would be a vocal comparison between The Weeknd and Michael Jackson. I love both artists. The Weeknd has Michael influences. Now, I'm not saying to sit there and judge who is "better." I love The Weeknd, but there is no comparing to Michael Jackson. They are two great Artists.
      If the video was strictly comparing both of their vocal techniques, tone, etc. The Weeknd receives the Michael Jackson comparison a lot and I'm curious how legit it is, as far as singing similarities. Thank you Chris. 💕

      Not my experience with a lot of the Michael Jackson stuff I've done. I had several of them outright BLOCKED, taken down and I even received a STRIKE... I had to rework some of them and now I know what is acceptable for the way copyright owners consider "fair use".

    • @warhoofd74
      @warhoofd74 2 года назад

      That is horrible when that is happening. And in that case I made a wrong assumption and you deserve my excuses.
      With that out of the way, you are aware that there are companies making a living out of these copyright strikes, some even make certain synth and sampler preset sounds as their own, and when you use that, the algorithm gives you a strike. It’s the equivalent of a digital minefield, but I’m blabbering … keep it up, love the content and its very interesting
