When you've seen some more videos and a bit more of eurovision you should totally watch the years when Sweden hosted Eurovision. Oh, and I think the grey people performance did not get enough attention, it makes me cry whenever I see it :)
Old-school Eurovision/Mellodifestivalen watchers consider some songs specially tailored to the coopetition so they don't fit anywhere else. We feel cheated when the competition is sent to the typical teen popstar. If you look back a few decades you find more of those songs.

Hi from Canada! It's my first year watching Mello too, and is it ever interesting! I don't generally watch talent shows or reality tv, but this got my attention. Before starting to learn Swedish, I didn't know it existed, but it seems more fun and serious and weird than any other musical talent show. I'm curious how next year will be.
I think Ja ja ding dong is kinda meme'ing the Eurovision song contest hilariously accurately, that's why it got so popular online. Most ESC entries are sung in English, a lot of them are in other languages of course... but a good portion of the lyrics always have been and always will be sung in complete gibberish and that is also generally where the magic happens. To quote the winning song from 1975, Listen to it Maybe it's a big hit Even when your lover is gone, gone, gone... *SING DING-DING-DONG*

You may notice that quite a few of the singers competing in Melodifestivalen became famous through IDOL. Not sure if you have watched Eurovision before. If not you will have a treat! Nothing like it. The internet is already abuzz with fans discussing the different entries and everything Eurovision! There are so many fans of Eurovision all over the world. Everyone were just so sad when it was cancelled last year. So many great songs last year that never got to compete on that great stage. Did you know the concept is to be brought to the US with the help of mr Mello himself, Christer Björkman( he truly is responsible for Melodifestivalen being what it is)? Big plans for the US to have its own "Mello" in some form and join Eurovision... As I write this when Tusse already won Mello I can only say that I do think he had the best chance of getting to the top 10 in Eurovision this year. Last year my favourite was Dotter but the Mamas were also great and I did not mind them winning. If there had been a Eurovision last year I believe the top ten would have been Iceland, Russia, Lithuania, Switzerland, Cyprus, Sweden, Spain, Germany, Azerbaijan and Israel. Wow, never noticed how similar Erics performance was to Euphoria! I grew up with mello and always loved it, here's some things I've found about Melodifestivalen. Way back it was all about the songs and songwriters, the artists would even sing more than one song and some years they even had more than one artist for each song. Not long ago, the songwriters would be presented and shown on screen before the song, but for some reason, at least during week 2, 3 and 4, they didn't even say their names. This was also the first year in all of mello's history that every song had at least 2 writers
American song contest is taking place some months after ESC (Eurovision Song Contest) That is going to he the first American Song Contest and the ones who created American Song Contest is the EBU (European Broadcasting Union)
Take it one more step. Greta Thunbergs father Svante Thunberg, is an actor, and is a descendant of Svante Arrhenius, a scientist who came up with a model of the greenhouse effect. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1903.
I never watch eurovision, cause I don't really watch tv in general anymore. But years ago when I did, the numbers I liked, never ever won. I feel like the thing that brings people together about mello, is hating on the winner, cause "insert other song" was so much better. Of course everyone has a different "other song".
Everyone only says "Eurovision" nowadays as far as I know. And close to nobody says Schlagerfestivalen about Melodifestivalen anymore as was common until 20 years ago.
Miles came from the distance measurement of roads where a milestone was set up to mark the distance every mile. 1 mil is 18,000 alnar long, ie 10,688 km. The division was introduced in 1649, more than 100 years before the United States was formed. 1870 was changed to 10 km was equal to 1 mil when the meter system was introduced in Sweden. In 1895, the law on milestones was abolished, but you can still see milestones along old country roads 50 - 100 cm high at the roadside. The origin comes from the Roman Empire, which measured the distance from Rome with a marking of 1,000 double steps, ie 1,479 km. So the word comes from Latin and means thousand (mille) = a thousand steps with the right foot. In nautical contexts, a mile is 1,852 km. An English mile is 1,609 km.
Americans always seem to describe Erurovision as a "singing competition" - it is not. It's a SONG contest. It's about the SONG, not the SINGING. The song doesn't even have to have a singer - it could be just an instrumental piece, although I don't know that that's ever happened 🤷🏼♀️
Those same songwriters make songs for other eurovision countries aswell. Once G-son had like 3 or 4 songs in eurovision. Its the lamest part about mello/euro if you ask me. Oh and also the jury.. just let people vote! Anyways nice video :)
Meagan, Schlagler Lucas has a ton of videos featuring Melodifestivalen! So much fun!!! and of course they have their own terrific youtube channel as well!!! (:

Oh! Hello Meagan 😊 The beautiful and really really nice girl from Bachelor 😊 I held my thumbs for you when I watched the show (hehe yes, you know in Sweden we hold our thumbs). And now, suddenly from nowhere, I get the chance to send you a virtual hug 😊 Hope all is well with you 😊
Thanks ... I learned a new thing...You said something about a scandinavian mile and that made me google that and by so learned that a rast is ca 5 km by an old definition .... Ps Iam well versed in Swedish and somewhat in English/American
I'm currently working my way through previous Mello competitions! I watched 2020 and 2019 this week. Maybe I'll skip to 2016 next. :) Thanks for the suggestion!
Regarding the writers, you have to have in mind that Mello is a big deal in Sweden and gets a lot of attention compared to and same contest in another country. So you often have the same writers and artist enter the contest in Sweden. A lot of the songs gets a lot of play time on radio and higher on the Spotify list.
Rena rama ding dong should definitely have been in the final. The one who put them against Clara Klingenström (love her!) deserves a big pimple somewhere it really hurts. Going back and looking through older melfests you're going to discover schlager which used to be the most popular genre of music in the contest. It's largely irrelevant today but once Covid is over I promise you that it'll be impossible to have a night on the town without hearing it everywhere (unless you go somewhere desperately cool). Every Swede knows those songs. Even the ones who hate them.
I stopped watching Melodifestivalen some ten years ago and my spring depression went away, because I suddenly realised THERE ARE GOOD MUSIC out there. 😆 I get the thing, but Dotter not winning two years in a row just points to bad taste. 😉 But I had forgot about La Voix. Amazing song!
. . man kan dela upp låtarna i tre kategorier: 1. Det här låter som vanligt 2. Jag är för gammal för det här 3. Jag är för ung för det här Kategori 1 är helt klart vanligast." Hälsningar från "Nördig gubbe med jävligt konstig musiksmak"!
Hi Meagan! Have you been watching the 2022 Melodifestivalen videos on youtube? I mostly like this year's songs but am really disappointed that Shirley Clamp's "Let There Be Angels" was eliminated ): I don't care for Lillasyster or Medina - not a fan of hard rock/heavy metal. I think they will send Liamoo's "Bluffin'" to Eurovision but I am never certain what the televoters will decide! Love almost all of the finalists/semi-finalists this year though! (: Italy's submission to Eurovision - "Brividi" - is one of my all-time favorite songs I have ever heard so I will be rooting for Italy to win this year - I always expect the worst from Eurovision though! @@ronnopotter really??
I thought he retired
WAIT WHAT. Stop, are you serious? I'll have to look into this!
@@MeaganAfterDark it got announced like November 2020
Greta Thunbergs Grandfather is Bamses Voice😂❤️🐻
Really? That's some serious street cred lol
I really hope there is some youtube coverage of Melodifestivalen in 2022!!!!
Keep it up, det är toppen.
That brown fake wood tv stand, is a match to my stereo bench/stand. Cool! 1960s I think.
everyone loved frans "If I were sorry", (Me too), hehe
It was boring as fuck.
Tess Merkel's performance definitely had the best outfits
I haven't seen Melodifestivalen for several years and I don't intend to, but for some reason I watched this video anyway… 🤣👍
Every year about 20-30 million crowns is spent on this show every year. Hence the great production.
The Swedish name for Eurovision is eurovisionsschlagerfestivalen. Schlager is the name for the typical song that used to compete in mello.
Omg the Eric Saade thingg!! I am shooketh to the core😭🤯🤯
Thomas Gson is the standard songwriter of mello. He’s in the credits for like at least three songs each year.
i was looking for this one! the dude is attached to anything mello haha
You are both a nerd and an oracle, what a combo 😀
It feels like it would some break constitution law to not watch Melodifestivalen in Sweden.
So I have been a criminal since 1975.
@@herrbonk3635 I'm calling Säpo right now.
Meagan, Schlagler Lucas has a ton of videos featuring Melodifestivalen! So much fun!!! and of course they have their own terrific youtube channel as well!!! (:
You should go deep back into the competition and see how it all started :)
But but.... I AM too cool for Melodifestivalen. I took that personally :O
It's okay to enjoy Mello 💛
Love your videos👍. You know that the whole Mello concept will be brought to the US by the guy who up till this year has been the producer?
This is like a legit digital fikarast :) I usually cringe just a tiny bit because I am rarely involved in these talks at the office, but this video still makes me smile! You are becoming really Swedish :D
Oh! Hello Meagan 😊 The beautiful and really really nice girl from Bachelor 😊 I held my thumbs for you when I watched the show (hehe yes, you know in Sweden we hold our thumbs). And now, suddenly from nowhere, I get the chance to send you a virtual hug 😊 Hope all is well with you 😊
Aw thank you!! I appreciate the nice comment :)
All you need to watch is "love love, peace peace" to understand everything. :)
You can watch old episodes on svt play
I don’t like Mello but I appreciate you nerding out
See you were right! :O Once again I have to say I love your videos... Please make more of them. (No pressure lol) Tack så mycket för videon!
Thanks ... I learned a new thing...You said something about a scandinavian mile and that made me google that and by so learned that a rast is ca 5 km by an old definition .... Ps Iam well versed in Swedish and somewhat in English/American
I'm Swedish, but I lost it too when I found out about Greta Thunbergs mom!😄
Great video!
this comment might be late but if you're intrested in watching all participants I recomend 2016. Frans wasn't the best one that year!
"I have nowhere to put this cup" Tv stand no 2 be like: "Am I invisible?"
I stopped watching Melodifestivalen some ten years ago and my spring depression went away, because I suddenly realised THERE ARE GOOD MUSIC out there. 😆
I get the thing, but Dotter not winning two years in a row just points to bad taste. 😉
But I had forgot about La Voix. Amazing song!
Mello is the only program on SVT that makes money.
"Melodifestivalen. . . man kan dela upp låtarna i tre kategorier:
1. Det här låter som vanligt
2. Jag är för gammal för det här
lovad, nathalie and tess 😎💜
Italy's submission to Eurovision - "Brividi" - is one of my all-time favorite songs I have ever heard so I will be rooting for Italy to win this year - I always expect the worst from Eurovision though! (;
I didn't see it first, but after someone pointed out Malena is Greta's mother, you cannot really unsee it because they definitely look a lot like
you naild it, Tusse won.

you have minneapolis the jayhawks and the late great prince what are you thinking.
Don't worry about the pronunciation of Eric Saades last name though. We've been trying to figure it out since 2011 and we still don't know.
Dotters song from last year was a little bit better go listen to it if you haven't 😉
It's called bulletproof
I've been binging on that song all week! It's so good!!! I'd say I prefer Bulletproof over last year's Move, but this year I like In the Middle more than Little Tot. They're all bangers though 😁
