  • This is just a silly video! 😘
I love Sweden so much, so I decided to make a redemption video talking about 10 things I learned AND LOVED since moving here. There are many cultural differences between the USA and Sweden, so this video is dedicated to 10 things that I experienced for the first time in Sweden and really appreciated.
I understand that not everything in this list is exclusive to Sweden (such as the taxes being in the prices), but Sweden is where I experienced these differences firsthand, and therefore, I associate these experiences with Swedish culture.
I hope you enjoy this list!
    1. Bank ID - an electronic verification system
    2. Cheap, delicious coffee! Thank goodness, since I love Fika.
    3. Taxes are in the prices
    4. Filing taxes. Yes, it's true! Filing taxes in Sweden is so easy, especially using BankID ;)
    5. Cool stuff: swedish dish cloths, chip clips, plastic bread clips, laundry room dryer, etc
    6. Outdoor gyms. They're free and people actually use them!
    7. Queues
    8. Stroller ramps on staircases, also used for wheel chairs.
    9. Berry picking! Blueberries, blackberries, lingonberries... The bärplockare made it easy to pick berries. Raspberries had maggots and weren't as fun to pick...
    10. Fredagsmys! Instead of going out and partying, you stay inside and cozy up with family and friends.
    ----
    På svenska
Det här är bara en fånig video! 😘

I always thought that it was their own design, I think most people in the Netherlands do. You could save up for a machine with the coupon included on every packet of coffee, but I think you need to save for about 20 years worth of coffee to get the machine even for half price:)

    Regarding filing taxes:
some 20 years or so ago, Skatteverket (the Swedish tax office) decided to try an approach they had not had previously. They tried making it easy to fill out the forms! In those days everything was on paper, and they made it easy to fill out the forms, even for the more advanced things like profits from the stock market and selling real estate. And lo and behold: people did "the right thing", and actually _payed_ taxes! Since then filling in the forms, whether they are on paper on electronic, has been easy, with a lot of the numbers already filled in. If everything the tax office has been told by your employer and bank is correct, all you have to do is sign the paper (or electronic form) and send it in.

Coffee. That brings up a story my colleague told when he was flying with AA on a trip from the UK to somewhere in the US, back in the late nineties. He had a brit next to him when they were offered tea by the flight attendant. "Tea? You americans don't know anything about tea. But maybe some coffee?". So she apparently poured him some decaf, which is unheard of in Europe. He took a sip of it, threw his head back and shouted "BARBARIANS!".
And decaf. It's like drinking alcohol free vodka. Like, seriously: What's the point?

    • @borjesvensson8661
      @borjesvensson8661 3 года назад +8

In Sweden the point of decaf is to have something to drink after a meal so you dont feel like a social outcast (and some deserts really taste better with coffee, finding good decaf, thats the problem) and still can go to bed without vibrating after the daily minimum 3-5+cups of strong coffee.
I would not want to see Swedish (or even worse Finnish) society try to function without coffey. If we ever become naugthy and start to do bad stuff all the international comunity have to do is to introduce a trade embargo on coffey and we would come crawling to the negotiation table after a few weeks..

I have a collegue who is from the states. When his parents visited Sweden for the first time, they were out of sync sleepwise due to airtravel and woke up really early. So they made themselves breakfast without waking anyone else like 4-5 in the morning. When my collegue woke up his dad had downed his regular big pot of coffee, complementing the good coffee. Needless to say the dad was jumping around like a bunny on speed for the rest of the day, my collegue was afraid his dad would catch a heartattack from caffeinepoisoning. Lesson learned. :)

A tip for the bread sealers. Saving those and reusing those are good but they can also be used another way. If you ever hurt your fingertips or toes badly and you want to keep your fingers or toes away from touching anything because it hurts, just fold one of the sealers into a U shape, place them over your finger or toe (leaving a small gap) and then wrap around your finger/toe with bandage. You have just created a very good anti-touch protection.

Rasberries has usualy always some maggots. When i was kid and we were picking rasberries and after we came home we putted plastic wrap over the bucket so all the maggots comes out from the berries and try to escape out of the bucket so it was easy to take those maggots out and was much nicer to eat knowing that you don´t end up to eating maggots as well.
