I used this video to upgrade my civic sport hatch to the 2020 type r shifter. Omg I love it. Best 50 bucks I ever spent. Thanks for the detailed vid!!
Just installed this unit on my 2021 Civic Sport Wagon, along with the bushings and Poco knob. Quality is top notch, shifts are solid and firm. Took a little tweaking to get it dialed in, but it works flawlessly. My only regret is that I had to cover it up with the console. Oh...they give you enough stickers to wall paper a small room too.
Video is well made guy knows what he's doing.. i installled it in about hour and 15min thanks to him
This is one of the best instructional videos on anything that i have seen in a long time!!
Thanks for the love our instructional content 🙏!
Pawinn is so good at making these videos.
We agree!
Awesome video man. Thanks for all the guide video ! Looking forward to your next mod video :)
Thank you! You're welcome man 🙏
Can't wait to do mine! Soo much fun! I love the stuff! Awesome video! Thnks! Much appreciated over here!
Thank you for supporting us! You're welcome and we hope it helps you with a speedy install 😁
This is the best, most detailed video for this install and in the beginning it can seem intimidating but the video helped tons
Thanks for saying so! Glad it helped!
Still my favorite mod that I have in my 9th gen. Enjoyed watching this install video! #acuityornothing
Thanks for the love man! Happy shifting 🤘😎
Did you cover it back up or leave it exposed?
I known im 4 yrs late but ininstalled mines in 2024 after having my first fk8 and its Amazing. Best mod ever. Even my brother wants one for his fk8 to 🔥
Thank you for this!
TY for this video. Installing this part on Friday. I am super excited
Thank you for making this video brotha! This is by far the best explanation out here. The process took a while but it was straight forward thanks to your instructions.
You're welcome! Thanks for watching and choosing ACUITY 🙏💜! We appreciate the love!
this is awesome
My dude made It
just bought it....I'll tell you soon enough. Thanks!
Hope it treats you well!
Does the center console go back on after you put this short shifter kit?
Quick question, could i put this in a 2009 vw golf im just wondering cuz I really don’t want to keep it stock and stort modding it even if it is just cosmetic.
This thing is awesome, I got to compare it to the hybrid counterpart. The guy with the hybrid wants to buy one now
Very nice shifter. But I wasnt willing to pay $480 for it. So I bought the boomba racing short shifter and adapter for less than half the price. Anybody know the difference in throws between the two shifters?
Can we put the acuity on other manual cars or is it just on the civic’s
Just ordered mine, I’m excited😓😓😓
Probably a silly question - but if this is properly intalled and adjusted, does it cause any potential for transmission issues?
not a dumb question if no one answered lol
Awesome instructions! Could you tell me what to adjust so that when I’m shifting through gears, it’s softer? After the install, I noticed that I have to put some elbow into it going into any gear
For the mildest settings, adjust the throw and gate spacing adjustments to "1" and the height to its highest setting.
I really want to do this but knowing me ill fuck it up uhhh
I just installed mine today for my FK8
Sweet! Hope you're enjoying the upgrade 🙏
@@ACUiTYinstruments I am.
Hey, Acuity. I’m looking to get the Stage 2 Shifter kit for my 2018 civic lx sedan. Will everything be compatible?
Yessir, our stage 2 kit are compatible with the manual 2018 Civic LX 👌
The whole module looks so good I wish there was a solution to showing it off in an exposed manner... Need dat for my fk8
It's possible to install all the components omitting the main center console. Although you sacrifice cupholders/storage space, it's a good solution to have easy access to the adjustments during the shifters break in period/show it off at car shows 😎. Just don't forget to remove the car key sensor from the back of the center console and plug it Into it's respective connector in the car. Our videographer Pawinn should be covering this in a new video on his channel later this month 🤘
@@ACUiTYinstruments Thanks you put an image in my head that now I won't be able to get out. Must order this!!
Ugh this makes me want mine NOW for my FK8. I'm as patient as a two year old. Russ please expedite the new shift knobs for the Stage 3! Hahaha
Should only be about a week before the Esco-T6 knobs are released. :)
@@ACUiTYinstruments Whoo Hooo! Thanks and keep up the great work.
Is there a way I can see how it looks like when you put everything back together?
It looks exactly the same as stock, theres literally no visible difference if you put it all back together
does it need any lube at the shift points from the cable ? as the oem shifter has .
HUY HUYNH the shifters come already lubricated at the few points that require it. No need to anything anything else 👍🏻.
Great Videos - can u do a vid to demonstrate REV Match works on the FK8 after a full install?
Are you currently using the FK8's auto rev match feature that's enabled by default or have you disabled it? There' should be no change in the rev-matching procedure due to shifting-related changes. If you have the auto-rev match system off, you just may have to do things a bit faster than usual.
Hey acuity i was just wondering if i could have the product number for the rare white acuity esco shift knob as shown in this video?
It was "1886", but it's no longer stocked. Sometimes they pop up on forums and facebook groups for sale if you keep an eye out.
What is the difference between the Short Shifter Kit and Stage 3 kit?
It's best to view the various kits on the website, but basically the Stage 1 and Stage 2 Shift Kits for the 10th gen civic offer bolt-on parts to upgrade the OEM shifter. The stage 3 kit features our 1892 Fully Adjustable Short Shifter, which replaces the OEM shifter entirely. Here's a link to the 10th gen catalog if you need it: acuityinstruments.com/collections/10th-gen-honda-civic-2016-2017
I’m having trouble with my sports mode activating. I rechecked all the wiring 3x and my sports mode won’t kick on after installing. Any solutions??
Normally it relates to the harness just not being clipped into the buttons, but on super rare occasions, we have seen people damage the plugs. I'd try just checking connectors. Disconnect them, check the male and female pins for damage. If possible, check continuity between the wires and the pins in the connector to make sure you have continuity. If all of that looks good, try disconnecting the battery (with the car off), which will reset all of the car's electronics. Keep in mind, it will take a few driving cycles to reset everything after disconnecting and reconnecting the battery.
Any videos of shifter installation guide for type R? It didn’t show how to remove the wireless charger caz SI doesn’t have them.
We don’t have a video covering the removal of the wireless charging unit, but we have the disassembly steps for it covered in our pdf installation guide here:
drive.google.com/file/d/1Hr5liM-p-OuZ2cFBcw7WYrEQXi5BbIDd/view?usp=sharing
Do you need to buy an aftermarket shift knob for this or can you use the stock one?
The OEM 10th gen shift knobs (for all trims) work with this shifter and mount just like they do on the stock shifter. :)
@@rgareh1 awesome thank you for letting me know I really appreciate it 😭🙌🏽
I have just change this shifter, but I feel like the shifter is too hard to push in, what should I change in order to make less effort to push in the gears.
For the most mild setup on our shifters, do the following:
-If the height is adjustable, set the height to the tallest setting (normally marked "4" or "5" on the height adjustment rod)
-If the throw is adjustable, set the throw to "1"
-If the gate spacing is adjustable, set the gate spacing to "1"
This will give you the longest throw and widest gates possible. From there, reduce the adjustments to your liking.
Getting mine on Friday for my Si! What settings would you recommend for a daily driver?
Awesome 🤘😎. For daily driving I'd start off with the middle settings on both the gate and throw adjustments. Then the height and the position of the shift knob can then be adjusted to suit your arm length/preferences (a shorter height will reduce throw as well, and vice versa).
I broke the tab that the shifter cable is supposed to click in place to how screwed am I? Will it be fine?
Good news! You are very likely not screwed! :) Just to confirm, you are referring to the tab on the black bushing that prevents the bushing from rotating once you lock it into the shifter's frame, correct? If so, you should be ok. Realistically, the bushings may be fine as is, but just to be cautious, consider adding a zip tie that prevents the bushing from pulling out of the bracket just in case the bushing ever rotates. You don't need anything crazy, just some slight pressure to hold it in place.
can you still use the OEM shift knob with this?
Yes you can 🙏. Our shifter can retain both the oem knob and shift boot collar
For us Canadian Si owners - I am assuming we have to disconnect the charging pad connector as the last step in our disassembly? Can any Canuck owners confirm this last step?
Hey thanks for commenting! Yes you’ll need to remove/disconnect the charging pad before you can remove the upper console panel and bottom half of the center console. In short, once you remove the shift knob, shifter surround panel, side trim pieces, and the climate control module, you’ll notice the charging pad has a thin plastic trim piece around it that can be unclipped by hand. Once that surrounding trim piece is removed, you’ll see two Phillip screws that secure the charging pad to the upper console panel. Remove those, then you can pry the sides and back of the charging pad to unclip it from the upper console panel and then unplug the wiring underneath it. Then you should be able to remove the upper console panel and proceed to the steps to remove of the rest of the center console. Hope this helps! If you reach out to us on ig/fb/email I can help provide some reference pics for the steps I just described 🙏. ~Pawinn
@@ACUiTYinstruments Thanks man. I did this yesterday. I installed the Acuity Shifter Rocker, Gate Spring, Short Throw Adapter and the Base Bushings in one shot. Taking out the charge pad was a bit tricky as well as tightening the short throw adapter. I have to admit the shifting feels way better now with a bit of noise (I didn't zip tie the shifter cable as I saw next to nothing for play yet).
With the Short Throw Adapter you will not be able to go into 5th. Works fine after everything is installed.
NOTICE - For Canadian Owners who have the immobilizer and the Push Start - You will be unable to start the car normally as the immobilizer will kill the engine turning over. Nobody really knew on how to help me but I ended up figuring out.
AFTER reconnecting the Negative Battery Cable - on the very FIRST Start, you have to press the brake pedal all the way to the bottom and then start it with the clutch and Start button.
Has anyone ran a hybrid racing cable and acuity shifter setup?
We recommend sticking with the oem cables for now 🙏.
Can you put back on the oem shift knob?
Yes. The oem shift knob and shift boot can still fit together with this shifter 👍
Does this fit a right hand drive Civic Hatchback Sport?
Thanks for asking! Yes, our shifter should fit all right hand drive 10th gen civics 👍.
Question, I have this exact one on my 2015 civic si. How is this possible?
that should not be possible, are you sure you don’t have our 9th gen civic short shifter? If you look on the back of the shifter and see that it has a serial number that starts with “1880-….” then it is an 9th gen civic shifter.
Will this fit in the new 2020 Civic si coupe?
Yup! These shifters fit the 2020's as well as they do any 10th gens. :)
Will this fit on my 2029 2.0 sport accord ?
No, this shifter is dedicated for 10th Gen Honda Civics. We do offer bolt on modifications to the stock shifter assembly for 10th gen accords though. Here's a link to where you can find that on our website 🤘: acuityinstruments.com/collections/10th-gen-honda-accord-2018
Does it have to be on flat ground I can’t find any
Can you explain the question a bit better? I'm not sure what the comment is in regards to, specifically. If you're referring to the car itself, as long as it's in park, you should be fine for the installation. No jacks etc are required and you do not need to get under the car.
What would you recommend for a 17 accord sport ?
We got a few bolt on upgrades for the factory shifter system that will provide appreciable improvements in shift feel (cable bushings, base bushings). Check them out on our website!
I am so (im)patiently waiting for this to be released for the 11th gen/2023 Integra. Anyone have a release date on it?
No concrete dates yet as we’re still in the middle of development, but it’ll be worth the wait 🤘🏼
Are y'all gonna make a short shift kit for a BB6 Prelude?
I don't think we have plans to develop one for that platform unfortunately 😔. If we see a large demand for it then we might reconsider
@@ACUiTYinstruments Understandable, hopefully one day they'll be enough demand!
Hi pawinn I've watch this video a long time ago but i just got my new car would this fit in my honda civic LX 2020? I will wait for you reply pleace notice me I'm a big fan or your civic SI and type R
Hi Ace! Thanks for the love! Yessir, all 2020 civics with manual transmissions (in all trims) are fully compatible with all of our 10th Gen mods.
Do you make one for ep-3 SI hatchback
Unfortunately we do not have a short shifter for the EP3 platform, but we do have a Stage 1 Shift Kit that provides bolt-on parts to the factory shift linkage/shifter for an appreciable improvement in shift feel. Here’s a link to all the parts compatible to the EP3 platform:
acuityinstruments.com/collections/8th-gen-honda-civic-2006-2012
Does this fit 11th Gen Si/5th Gen Integra?
It does not, but Acuity's shifter for that application should be available in early '23
Need one for the 10thgen Accords 6spds
@@rgareh1 I already have it installed. Still no plans to make one for this platform? Even if we get a group buy going?
Will this fit a 2016 civic LX 2.0?
As long as your 2016 Civic has a manual transmission, this will fit. 👍
What knob was that?
The white knob? If so, that's the insulated ESCO knob we offer. It's a direct only item (acuityinstruments.com). Supplies tend to be limited due to high demand and the amount of handwork that goes into each, but we have a sign-up on the product page on the site where you can sign up for restock notifications.
Is it worth it for a 60 mile daily commute?
Probably not you have to take apart the car so far it’s crazy if I was in your spot and wanted a shorter throw I’d just buy their bolt on parts
This is today's project. Here we goooo
Hope all goes well! 🥳
@@rgareh1 pretty straight forward. feels ridiculously awesome. best purchase for the car, to date.
Will this fit a 2016 honda accord coupe v6?
It will not unfortunately, but we do have plans to release shifter upgrades for the 9th gen accord in 2021 🤘
@@ACUiTYinstruments thank you for your response. Do you know when in 2021?
@@ACUiTYinstruments Any new updates on this?
@@tor3040 We actually just released stage 1 kits for the 9th gen accords that include shifter base bushings and shifter cable bushings. Unfortunately, still no plans for a shifter for the 9th gen accords, presently, simply due to insufficient demand. :( The stage 1 kit provides appreciable refinement to shift feel in the 9ths though. :)
Is the torque wrench really needed?
That's a good question. We list torques to be safe and to try to help customers avoid over-torquing adjustments. The truth is, if you are an experienced gearhead, you can likely skip the torques and snug the adjustments, but to be safe, keep an eye on the torques to make sure you're not overdoing it. Also note that our shifters are (mostly) marked in newton-meters and inch-pounds. Please don't confuse inch-pounds with foot-pounds since a foot-pound is 12 times higher than an inch-pound. For many, this is common knowledge, so apologies if that's the case here, but we've seen the confusion arise enough that we like to just say it to be safe. I've installed these exact shifters probably 50 times now (mostly during our R&D phase) and for most of those, I just hand-snugged everything for the sake of speed (with no ill consequences to speak of). The one adjustment to be very careful with is the gate spacing adjustment. It uses a large hex to adjust it but the screw is an M6, so don't be tempted to over-torque it just because the driver size is large. An L-handle allen wrench is plenty enough to torque the allen-key adjustments like throw, height, rotation, and the mounting screws though. :)
@@rgareh1 i also lost the pin so im fucked
I believe the part number for that clip should be (54321-TBA-A01), hope this helps! You should be able to get it ordered from bkhondaparts.com
How lomg should this take??
1.5-3 hrs depending on your technical experience 👍
The torque spec can’t be 71 lbs right?
The torques in this video are in inch-lbs since it focuses on smaller screws. 71 in-lbs would equal just under 6 ft-lbs.
What does gate spacing do? 9:55
Gate spacing is basically the distance your hand is traveling left or right during a shift. So you have the 1/2 gate, 3/4 gate, 5/6 gate, and Reverse gates on a 6-speed honda gearbox. It's normally ideal to reduce the gate spacing slightly when reducing shift throw so that you don't have super short throws with wide gates (which can be a bit awkward). So basically the gate spacing adjustment and throw adjustment permits independent fine tuning of how far forward/back your hand moves and then how far left/right your hand moves during shifts.
@@rgareh1 Thanks for quick answer.
@@THXnDTS No problem! :)
@@rgareh1 so would 1 be the shortest distance of gate spacing or would it be 3 ?
Shortest distance for gate spacing would be setting 3 👍
Is it Aquity or a-cutie?
We pronounce it just like the eye doctor would: a·cu·i·ty
/əˈkyo͞oədē/
ACUITY Instruments will you guys be making a short shifter for the 2011 Civic Si (FA5)?
@@jorgeizDShiznit Yes we will. Stay tuned later this year.
It's a shame because I've been looking for FK2 and it doesn't exist
We're hoping to offer one; if we do, it'll like be release around the end of 2022 at soonest. :)
I think I threw away the little bag with the mountings screws 😭
Not a problem! Please contact us via the contact-us form on our website (here: acuityinstruments.com/pages/contact-us). Explain your situation, and they should be able to assist in getting replacement parts as needed. The cost on the replacement hardware bag shouldn't be much, and shipping should be pretty economical for such a small package. :)
Removing the console seems like a nightmare lol.
There are a lot of steps compared to older Hondas/Acuras, but each individual step is pretty straight forward. To us it's worth it since the quality of the interiors, or at least the consoles, is so much better than it used to be. The first time takes a while since you are still learning how everything goes together, but these days we can have the console removed and shifters swapped in 30-60 minutes at our shop.
So much hassle
