In my paddle data analysis - Pickleball Apes Proline Energy S ranked 1st when comparing these four categories: spin, power, pop, and price. The pro line energy came in 11th. Very respectable among the giants. Raw data spreadsheet included 78 paddles and was provided by John Kew.

I've been using the Apes first release (Pro Line Energy) since July and absolutely love the balanced combination of power and control. Early Gen 2 paddles like the Legacy Pro and CRBN 1X are all power with very little control and requires you to be an advanced player to really get the most out of the paddle. I'm a 4.0 and I've lent the S model to several players and right away they noticed how soft it is while still retaining power and pop.
BTW, JohnKew's review indicated that the Apes has more pop(top tier) than you have indicated.
It is a surprisingly great paddle for a great price!! Thanks for the review.

I am super happy with the softer thermoformed paddles, as well. It was the next logical step so very impressive that brands came out with such good products so quickly!

@@RacketsandRunnersPickleball Agreed. 6.0 will be releasing the "Ruby" in December which is a hybrid shape Kevlar-RC F face. Sound familiar? They are also looking to release a longer version of their DBD paddle (16.8" with a 6" long grip) - again, sound familiar to the elongated Pickleball Apes PLE?

I have just started playing with this paddle and I love it. Easy on your arm , heavy on spin, easy to control on soft and hard shots. I got alot of free points off of my serve. Resets very easy. So is 3rd shot drop s

FYI, the material damps vibration, it doesn't dampen vibration. If you dampen something, you make it more moist, which is something you probably don't want.

So which paddle do you grab when you’re heading out for competitive play?

I ended up switching paddles with my son. He got my DBD while I got his Pro Line S. His biggest complaint was that Pro Line S has a higher swing weight (closer to elongated) vs. other hybrid gen 2 paddles.

Totally, the S is shorter than fully elongated but swings more like an elongated paddle than a hybrid one.

I'm not sure we're doing a full review of that paddle, so many other things to cover 😅
