I just love Russell. He is such a great "helper/supervisor"- never alone when Russell is around. My 19 year old kitty passed away one month ago and I so miss him. Please give Russell a hug and kiss for me.
Hi Laura, what your sunflower has is called Fasication or cresting. Look it up as it is a lot to type out. You will need to get rid of the plant and not save any of those seeds. :) love your videos. Happy gardening
Yes, Aaron...can't wait to see your compost castle! This fall, I'm upping my game from a cobbled together compost pile to a multi-bin system inspired by Charles Dowding's low-maintenance compost process. :o)
PS - the "year by year" playlists are great. It was a major hassle to figure out how to watch all your videos chronologically from the start (Hu-loooo RUclips...why don't you offer that option?!?)
In all seriousness, eh em, I think the kitties have a “sense” that they are celebrities! LOL Yay for the comic relief and fun of Cheddar and Russell! Garden Answer with Russell and Cheddar.....and Laura! 😁😁😁
Your comment about the Lindens makes me hopeful for a "tree tour" in your garden... of those that are mature and those that you've planted. Please?? 😁🥰
Here in New Zealand we don't seem to have the flower preservative. I generally use 1tsp of sugar and 1tsp of bleach in the water.Helps keep the water clean.
Yeah I’ve heard that the mix can be made at home, and I’d love to know a reliable recipe (ahem, Laura...) with percentages and info about the various components and what they do in the mix.
One of the things I love most about growing as a gardener is watching how my tastes have changed... I used to dislike yellow foliage.. now I love it. I actually didn't like zinnias for ages... now I love 'em. It's so fun to watch the evolution! Thanks as always for your wonderful videos.
The Cereopsis is every where in my garden, there is one spot that it blooms all summer, I like it there so I keep deadheading at that spot, and just left the others to withered away
Laura, The next time you are at the garden center would it be possible for you to show us some of the measurements of the seeds? I was looking at the website and it says that I can purchase 1/8 of an ounce of tomato seeds. I'm just curious to see how many seeds that is.
Just learned something new! Didn't know the videos were organized chronologically on playlist! Too fun to go back and see videos by year. Great call Aaron!!!!
Ive been following for years, i just wanted to say thankyou. I find after my day of being a stay at home mum in quarantine, I look forward to each of my nights to unwind to your videos. It has really helped me lately. I dream of a garden one day, but for now yours seems to heal my soul. Many thanks from Australia. x
Totally agree, it's a small world!! Two-ish years ago when I moved to Oregon, I drove cross country and happened to stop in randomly Ontario, OR as a brief pit stop. Fast forward several months, I'm watching one of your videos and realize that it's your town!!
I agree, except these videos are my dinner prep companion. I love how wholesome the videos are. It’s a nice reprieve and sets up for a nice relaxing dinner.
Yeah...I SOUND as though I've been gardening for years...now if only I could PRODUCE like I've been gardening for years! :( At least Laura inspires me to keep trying
Have you thought about planting Black Diamond watermelon? My dad had a grocery store and that is what he always bought for the store. I remember them being so good.
It seems to me in a previous video you mentioned your dad thought the dirt in the new area was going to be better than you thought. Looks like he is right
Hi Laura - You are right about your sunflowers! It must be a mutation because they look identical to a variety of sunflowers that I grew in my garden this season. They are called "Strawberry Blonde" ordered from Johnny's.
Laura, you know the satisfaction you get from say your watermelon or anything you grow yourself?? Well we built a 13 foot - would foot by 4 foot deep pond and there’s nothing better than sitting, watching the gorgeous koi swimming around and feeding them right out of your hands! You can’t keep koi in that small table top pond, goldfish or Siamese fighting fish but not koi, thy grow too big too fast but an in ground water feature especially one you build yourself is SO satisfying. Better to wait till kids are older and learn to swim though!!
O my! It really is a small world! Years ago, you could be a little bit more anonymous, but with technology today everybody has a connection to someone!
Russell & cheddar aren’t fighting unless you start to hear them howling & yowling at each other. 😂 When kitties play fight, they don’t make a sound, just a lot of rolling & biting, fun stuff like that. 🤣 I have 2 kitties that do this all the time.
I couldn't sleep AND WHAT A NICE SURPRISE TO SEE THE POSTING OF THIS VIDEO. My daughter's cat 🐈 ❤ pushes our cell phones out of our hands if he wants your attention how adorable that he layed on your pillow. Thanks you two, you're great.
I love your long videos. You always give us such a lot of information in them. Yippee! Hubby's laughing at me! Because when you said that I just went "YESSSS!" like I just scored. LOL 😆 🤣 😂 😹 Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge with us so we can be better gardener's. I so enjoy watching all of you on here. So thank you all for letting us tag along & sharing your families & your kitty's. 🥰😍🤗🤗🤗🤗🤭🤭❤❤💙💜💙
Someone from Proven Winners posted a recipe for flower preservative on FB - one teaspoon each of sugar, bleach, and lemon juice per quart of water. Sugar for food, bleach to keep bacteria from growing and citrus for freshness. Or one can lemon lime soda to a gallon of water. Hope that is helpful as an alternative to commercial flower preservative. Regarding the ads - I live in Canada and do not have a RUclips premium subscription. I NEVER (yet, anyway) have seen an ad of any sort before, during or after your videos. I guess it's different here, but I have to say I love that!
I too live in a high desert environment (in northern Utah). I highly recommend, as another viewer suggested, tying your compost into irrigation. It is extremely difficult in our dry environments to be successful with composting without regular moisture. It’s kind of like having to keep up with watering pots everyday. Just put it on drip to make your life easier!
Have you ever thought about Mountain Ashe trees? I have one in my yard and I love the rounded shape it has as well as the red berries for winter interest. They are super easy to clean up because the clumps fall off all together or I just clip them off.
I have a water garden as well (in ground pond). It’s got water lilies, water poppies and some sedge. I also have a gazillion goldfish. My weenie dogs drink out of the pond and they’re fine and they never try and eat the plants. They do like to chase the toads though. (Which are currently singing the song of their ppl😂 🐸)
Oh daring Laura...there will be no more free time in your winters after this winter LOL. Enjoy this one because with 2 little ones you are going to be very busy every season for the next 18 years or so LOL. Why learn calligraphy when you can download it? That leisure time should be for resting up. You are going to need every ounce of energy you can save up.
Vermiculite is GREAT for cut flowers!!!!Makes them last longer too and some of them will actually reroot and you can replant them. Plus the Vermiculite gives them a Unique look in a vase!!!
I have noticed similar issues as the Rediculous Coleus. Such as the 9 Black Cherry Supertunias in a bed this year. Weirdly, one bloomed with faint stripes - but only for 3 weeks when the hot weather started.
Hi Laura and Aaron! As usual, really enjoyed the recap video! There are some great questions that you answer. Thank you for sharing! BTW, I agree with others that Aaron needs a mic, too. He could turn it off when not needed.
I start my week by watching the recap videos and watch the video that best interest me. Thank you for taking the time to do these videos and helping us. I cant believe you forgot about the cats though🤣
I envy your upcoming weather! Glad you get to sit outside and enjoy the weather. For me, it will still be a few more weeks to enjoy the weather. Enjoying your videos emmensly!
Manchurian pear is a nice round tree, but not sure how well it would do in your area. Mine is a MASS of blossoms right now, and LOOKS stunning. (stinks but LOOKS amazing! LOL) It does have small fruits (which all the possums and wild parrots here LOVE), so might be a bit messy for what you want, but it has stunning fall foliage as well. The other tree I thought of is a ginkgo. They can be quite formal looking, and they tend to drop their leaves all at once. The other tree I would highly recommend is the nyssa sylvatica (tupelo.) Beautiful, BEAUTIFUL tree. AMAZING Autumn colour!
I’m so jealous that your parents garden center is so incredibly beautiful, and full of rare and unique product all the time.... i’m on the East Coast, NJ and it’s virtually impossible to find a garden center in a 100 mile radius that carries a fifth of what your parents do. It’s 😔
Lezlee Vitarelli check the videos for How’s It Growing. Her name is Laura also and lives in Paulsboro, NJ. Don’t know how far it is from you but she goes to a beautiful garden center. Check her playlist. Her small city garden is beautiful.
Jane Woodhouse That’s funny you say that, I actually took my Master Gardener certification class with her. But then the coronavirus messed it all up for us so we haven’t seen each other since March.... anyway I’ll reach out to her and see if she knows any garden centers around here but I Think I pretty much hit them all over the last 40 years.... they just lack unique varieties and cultivars...,. But thank you.... Btw , for anyone who does live in this area, there is a garden center named Primex out in Philadelphia that is fabulous.... it’s just a bit far
Might that be a business opportunity for you or a group of like minded gardeners? Open a garden center and carry all the things you haven't been able to find.
The sunflower with the growth in the middle is called vivpari. Due to hormone abscisic acid which is responible for dormancy of seed, is too low the seed starts to germinate on the plant. Happens in other plants too like strawberries and tomatoes
From a different mail time video I saw you were sent a beautiful Nativity Set. I can just see it on your beautiful mantel at Christmas time. The reason for the Season. Never seen one quite like it. Very unique just like you. My Nativity is my only decoration I put up as it’s just me and my husband and our grandkids are a huge distance away.
Yes I noticed that too with Rediculous coleus. It replaced the variety “ Big Judy” which I’d been growing for several years and always stayed pretty stable. Oh well 🙄
I had three successful compost bins for years, but we got very tired of watering them by hand and finally gave it up altogether. They were deep and really needed a lot of water. I think having the compost on drip is a great idea.
I really appreciate your guidance and wisdom! Thank you for all you guys do! This may be a difficult request, but would it be possible to include the recap video that coordinates with the original videos? There have been several times where I have searched your youtube channel for information, watched the video, and then try and find follow-up information about the video I just watched from the recap video.
I think with the Rediculous coleus it would be AMAZING if they could increase the green outline and have it serve as a sort of Christmas Coleus to have indoors during Christmas! Red and Green
I love watching your videos. We built a new house and I'm unsure how to design flower bed or areas. Do you know of any sites that you can upload a picture of your house and they design the landscaping? We would like to plant the shrubs and flowers ourselves. Thanks!
Check out Laura La Boutillier's RUclips buddy "The Impatient Gardener". She is SO much fun to watch and she posted a video about designing a garden when you are not a garden designer.
My Rediculous Coleus is doing the same thing. I've been nipping blooms since before I planted them. My green rimmed leaves are for the most part getting more shade. Still my favorite m💙🐝💙
Watermelon is my favorite thing to grow. Our late summer and autumn evenings are spent outside eating watermelon slices. Our favorite varieties are Jubilee and Georgia Rattlesnake.
I just love Russell. He is such a great "helper/supervisor"- never alone when Russell is around. My 19 year old kitty passed away one month ago and I so miss him. Please give Russell a hug and kiss for me.
So sorry for your loss of your beloved....
@@didisinclair3605 Thank you.
So sorry for your loss. I feel your pain. 😔 just lost my 17 year old. Cats are precious 💖 big hug
So sorry for your loss. I lost my Lilly almost 2 years ago 😢
I am so sorry. That's always very rough. Kitty rest in peace. 🙏
An hour and a half video coming this week?! Yippee!
I know, can’t wait. It’s almost movie length 🥳🎵🎶🎵💃
I actually squeaked out loud when Laura said that!!!! Can't wait!
I am more than happy!!!
Yippee! I love her long videos. So much information comes with those. YESSSS! LOL LOL!
YES!!!! So excited!
I like waking up and seeing a Garden Answer video notification, but I LOVE the random later night uploads before bed!!!
Same
BEST TIME OF THE WEEK!!! Love me some Garden Answer!😂😂
Hi Laura, what your sunflower has is called Fasication or cresting. Look it up as it is a lot to type out. You will need to get rid of the plant and not save any of those seeds. :) love your videos. Happy gardening
Fun video. Russell is so cute. Tell Aaron we really want to see the compost are from start to finish...please? God bless. 👏🏻💕👏🏻
Amen! Aaron works so hard behind the scene.....so appreciate him! (LoVE his humor!)
What a gorgeous background for your video! Those Sprinter boxwoods look like a full hedge! 🤗
In all seriousness, eh em, I think the kitties have a “sense” that they are celebrities! LOL Yay for the comic relief and fun of Cheddar and Russell! Garden Answer with Russell and Cheddar.....and Laura! 😁😁😁
Love how Russell stars in every video!
MY mom used 1/2 c vinegar 1/2 c water with a 1 Tbs.of sugar it works well
Penny Pearson That seems pretty easy!
Different flowers require a different mix. Not all flowers thrive in the same ph or chemical environment. There is no one stop answer
One of the things I love most about growing as a gardener is watching how my tastes have changed... I used to dislike yellow foliage.. now I love it. I actually didn't like zinnias for ages... now I love 'em. It's so fun to watch the evolution! Thanks as always for your wonderful videos.
I refuse to buy yellow shrubs. They look dead to me 😃.
The Cereopsis is every where in my garden, there is one spot that it blooms all summer, I like it there so I keep deadheading at that spot, and just left the others to withered away
1.5 hour seed video? Yayyyyyyy
Laura, The next time you are at the garden center would it be possible for you to show us some of the measurements of the seeds? I was looking at the website and it says that I can purchase 1/8 of an ounce of tomato seeds. I'm just curious to see how many seeds that is.
Love, love the recap videos! So glad Russell made an appearance ❤️
Just learned something new! Didn't know the videos were organized chronologically on playlist! Too fun to go back and see videos by year. Great call Aaron!!!!
Taking a break from Hurricane Laura coverage to enjoy some Garden Answer Laura down here in Louisiana. Love all your videos!
Good luck to u guys there! Hope everything will be ok for all of u! Blessings!
Oh, my, so sorry for you guys. I've lived through so many hurricanes down here in SF. That's awful 😞. Good luck and blessings 🙏
Please stay safe down there
I hope you are safe and well down there. Sending love from Connecticut.❤️❤️❤️
Ive been following for years, i just wanted to say thankyou. I find after my day of being a stay at home mum in quarantine, I look forward to each of my nights to unwind to your videos. It has really helped me lately. I dream of a garden one day, but for now yours seems to heal my soul. Many thanks from Australia. x
Excited to watch this. Hi Aaron (I think you monitor the comments)!
Mmmmm.... Noticing the Versailles quarters in the background. Got to say, I do like the pink and purple together x
Totally agree, it's a small world!! Two-ish years ago when I moved to Oregon, I drove cross country and happened to stop in randomly Ontario, OR as a brief pit stop. Fast forward several months, I'm watching one of your videos and realize that it's your town!!
YOU CAN STILL SAVE THE SEEDS, THEY DONT ALWAYS CROSS! YOU MAY NOT GET THE SAME THING, BUT YOU MIGHT END UP WITH A COOL NEW VARIETY!
Garden Answer is my morning tea moment, I could get depressed without hearing you Laura!❤
I agree, except these videos are my dinner prep companion. I love how wholesome the videos are. It’s a nice reprieve and sets up for a nice relaxing dinner.
Hey Laura, I was just watching an old video from Gardening Australia and they spoke briefly about Vivipary...this is what your sunflower is doing 😊
Is it just me, or does Russell sit on your lap more when you're pregnant? It's like he's comfort kitty!
I love your videos! I’m a newbie at gardening but after watching your videos I sound like I’ve been gardening for years LOL!!!!
Same !!!!
Purple and green, my favorite colors! Your yard looks so pretty in the background of this video!
After a stressful day it’s time to relax and enjoy this video. Thank you
Our experience with watermelon taste:
Seedless ones (we think) do not have as intense a favor as seed full ones.
As a former produce manager, I completely agree.
Totally agree!
I agree. Sadly the seedless is all some stores offer. Flavor beats ease in my opinion.
Hi last year you planted a miniature peach tree. I would love to see an update. Have you been able to harvest any peaches this year?
I LOVE the playlist by year. I think it’s genius!
It seems to me in a previous video you mentioned your dad thought the dirt in the new area was going to be better than you thought. Looks like he is right
I love how your sidekick russell is always with you , do you think he will be jealous when the new baby come ..🧡🧡🧡
moon garden looks like snow. I love it.
Yes yes yes on the playlists!! I am going through the years!
Russell in the video was so adorable!!!! Love your cats.
Hi Laura - You are right about your sunflowers! It must be a mutation because they look identical to a variety of sunflowers that I grew in my garden this season. They are called "Strawberry Blonde" ordered from Johnny's.
Always great info. Thanks for these videos. You guys are amazing. 🦋♥️🌱
I love these recap videos. It’s so fun to hear you talk about the process and respond to questions.
Garden Answer before going to sleep! 😍 good night! Thanks for the tips! Hugs🤗🤗🤗💞💜💜💜
I love Russell too ...he’s so chill .. Mom talking to much ,I’m out ..he leaves ..lol

O my! It really is a small world! Years ago, you could be a little bit more anonymous, but with technology today everybody has a connection to someone!
I see you every day, from Portugal. You are the most fabulous gardening chanel,. Love all the videos.
Yes please 🙌 on the seed video. Thank you dearly, cannot wait 🌷🌻🌷🌻
Russell & cheddar aren’t fighting unless you start to hear them howling & yowling at each other. 😂 When kitties play fight, they don’t make a sound, just a lot of rolling & biting, fun stuff like that. 🤣 I have 2 kitties that do this all the time.
Love the setting of this video. You seated in the center with that beautiful background 👍
Laura I love alot of the videos...so informative. Russell & Cheddar just want to be with you...loove seeing them!
Yay! Anyone else get excited about an hour and a half long video coming up???
I love your long videos. You always give us such a lot of information in them. Yippee! Hubby's laughing at me! Because when you said that I just went "YESSSS!" like I just scored. So thank you all for letting us tag along & sharing your families & your kitty's. 🥰😍🤗🤗🤗🤗🤭🤭❤❤💙💜💙
I love the background in this video. The purple and pink together among the green is so pretty.
Years ago I read that the stuff in the packets is ascorbic acid and sugar and they said lemon/lime soda would do the same thing.
Gramma's World you can use an aspirin also.
I love your kitties...Russell loves you Laura!
Have you ever thought about Mountain Ashe trees? I have one in my yard and I love the rounded shape it has as well as the red berries for winter interest. They are super easy to clean up because the clumps fall off all together or I just clip them off.
I know how you feel about the cool weather Laura. our temperatures dropped in the morning to the mid 50s about 3 weeks ago. Love it!
Your kitties are the best!!! ♥

Awesome bedtime treat👀Thanks I can dream💫🌿🌹🌷💮🌺Tonight!😊
Vermiculite is GREAT for cut flowers!!!!Makes them last longer too and some of them will actually reroot and you can replant them. Plus the Vermiculite gives them a Unique look in a vase!!!
I have noticed similar issues as the Rediculous Coleus. Such as the 9 Black Cherry Supertunias in a bed this year. Weirdly, one bloomed with faint stripes - but only for 3 weeks when the hot weather started.
Yes! My Black Cherry Supertunia has a small section of blooms with faint stripes also. It showed up about two months after planting!
Oh my word, hire the cows!!! 😆🐮😆 That’s one of the best ideas I’ve heard. They’ll get a tasty treat and you’ll get some rich 💩
I love the new playlists! It's super easy to search a subject but hard to watch things in order. Thank you for the update.
Goats. You need goats to help clean it out. They will eat everything. And there are people that rent them out for cleaning up property.
Hi Laura and Aaron! As usual, really enjoyed the recap video! There are some great questions that you answer. Thank you for sharing! BTW, I agree with others that Aaron needs a mic, too. He could turn it off when not needed.
I NEED to see your trees when they're all in Autumn colour!!
I really enjoy these weekly recaps. Love your channel.
I start my week by watching the recap videos and watch the video that best interest me. Thank you for taking the time to do these videos and helping us. I cant believe you forgot about the cats though🤣
pregnancy brain! It's a thing. : )
Ha! I knew it! I had just cleaned up the bottom of my Tangerine from suckers. Looking forward to the sucker video!
In my area (northern California) you can hire goats! They are good weed eaters. They come with fences. :)
I envy your upcoming weather! Glad you get to sit outside and enjoy the weather. For me, it will still be a few more weeks to enjoy the weather. Enjoying your videos emmensly!
With all of the agriculture that surrounds you, soil mustn’t be that bad! I’m glad everything has grown so well!!
Manchurian pear is a nice round tree, but not sure how well it would do in your area. Mine is a MASS of blossoms right now, and LOOKS stunning. (stinks but LOOKS amazing! The other tree I would highly recommend is the nyssa sylvatica (tupelo.) Beautiful, BEAUTIFUL tree. AMAZING Autumn colour!
another great week!! wow, almost the end of august - time flies when you're watching Laura videos!! :)

Yes I noticed that too with Rediculous coleus. It replaced the variety “ Big Judy” which I’d been growing for several years and always stayed pretty stable. Oh well 🙄
WOW 73 I'd sure like to see temperatures like that here in Kentucky.
Cows are an excellent idea... it would fertilize as well

Yay a 1 1/2 hour video on seeds 🤗🤗🤗 Bless Russel 🐱🐈...so cute ...he doesn't feel the heat ...maybe he loves being close to your baby bump too 🤰😻
I wait patiently for these videos
My Rediculous Coleus is doing the same thing. I've been nipping blooms since before I planted them. My green rimmed leaves are for the most part getting more shade. Still my favorite m💙🐝💙
Thank you for the confirmation of number of days for harvest.
Laura I just got my kangaroo popup bag LOVE IT, can't wait to use it, my daughter was visiting when it came and I think she'll be getting one also
I use a old bed sheet to put leaves and debris on. It is easy to pull around and easy to fold up and put away
Watermelon is my favorite thing to grow. Our late summer and autumn evenings are spent outside eating watermelon slices. Our favorite varieties are Jubilee and Georgia Rattlesnake.
SO looking forward to the seed video!! I love watching your videos while eating breakfast 😊 hello from Minnesota
I love Russel. He wants attention when he wants it 😊
