  • Snowy winter day on the mountain sourcing wood and axing out spoon blanks for my spoons. Older video recorded on this day a year ago. Working higher up on the mountain in freezing weather sure is challenging but also very beautiful and rewording.

Thanks. It becomes an extension of your hand when you use it a lot 🙂

I have to say to cold for me! I’m a fair weather carver for sure.

It sure is beautiful to be out on a day like that though 🙂 It can be a bit hard to work but some discomfort is a good thing. Everything feels much better afterwards, a hot meal, heated home 🙂

So just wondering? Is that your property where you get your wood or do you have to ask for permission?

I'm in Europe. Sometimes I gather parts of storm fallen timber on public land which is OK here, sometimes people let me use a tree or parts of trees from their property.

Do you have a sled to pull your worked pieces back or do you have a pack that you backpack with?9

I use a backpack. Axed out blanks are quite light so you can carry many. That's why I axe out blanks on the spot. Easier to carry than bigger pieces of wood. You can see my backpack for a moment hanging on a branch in this video 🙂
