I'm an electrician, and the only clothes I wear are bib overalls for all the reasons you mentioned above. I was recognized as an electrician just wearing bibs and as a kid I wore bibs to dress as a construction worker.

Haha, they are super handy.. I literally am wearing the same T-Shirt from highschool (12 years later), that was heavy work t-shirt, but was protected because of my Carhartt coveralls 😁
Thanks for the comment.. good to read that!

I like to wear both... it always depends on the use. If it's really just for a viewing or a clean job.
I like to wear classic coveralls with a matching shirt and a bow tie.
Or just a pair of dungarees with a tight shirt bow tie.
In winter, thick dungarees with a tight sweater.

i love wearing my overall bibs so many things you can keep in the pockets so many tools you’d need for a job without wearing a pouch i’m only 16 and wear them on the job almost everyday highly recommend if you work in any trade if you don’t have any i’ll tell you investing in some carhartts will make your life so much easier and they’ll last you a very long time definitely will get your moneys worth!

    • @BecomingAnElectrician

Yeah I enjoyed them.. they also kept my clothes lasting way longer, too.. The only downside to them is the straps over the shoulders, sometimes those are annoying..

counterpoint: if you use a belt, you just put it on when you start work and take it off when you stop for any reason. you can even set up multiple options. I even work out of a safety vest frequently. hammer, and a couple hand tools in my pants pockets, staples and other small things in the vest pockets, and I always keep my phone, writing tools, and sniffer in my shirt pocket.
the key is to find a system that works for YOU and the work YOU are doing. if I'm doing something tool and part intensive, I wear a full belt with suspenders. and if it's not part intensive, I can just put the belt somewhere handy.

@@kenbrown2808 You are certainly correct, there are other ways to increase your tool carrying capacity, so that should not be your main reason for opting for bib overalls. The main benefit of overalls in a work environment is that the bib offer some protection of your torso from splashes, sparks and dust (think of it like a combination of a shop apron and pants), while being more comfortable and less restrictive to wear than an apron or a full boiler suit. Plus, they look fantastic. I'm with B.A.E. on this one, I don't set foot in my mixed wood/metal shop unless properly bibbed up in my dickies :)

Can you do a video on boots that you wear? Would be good to see the overalls being worn over top of some rubber boots too, as that's how I would wear mine. The overalls should fit over some rubber boots no problem right? Would be good to see that in the next video.
