Do you know I heard something like it was an accident and they photocopied it too many times and it was supposed to be exactly like ABITNS and UAFM. Good thing they did its so iconic
Probably, the most influential band of the original Inner Circle, probably because of his Death Metal past, influenced Fenriz the most and you can tell. And Nocturno its likely the most influencial dude of the Norwegian scene, at the level of Varg probably. I love them, and following Bathory style not touring its always weird but cool
Favorite BM band with bathory. Favorite albums are a blaze, funeral moon, panzerfaust, foad, underground resistance and arctic thunder...fenriz is awesome vocalist
I love listening to Darkthrone albums with the commentary tracks, most are done by Fenriz but Nocturnal Culto does a couple too, but i've learn a lot about the behind the scenes on these records which not too many bands take the time to do that, the story behind Rawness Obsolete is funny, Fenriz was either at or DJ'ing at a festival show in Norway, which is what he does for a living besides working at a postal warehouse, doing podcasts and backup city councilman now not less when he's not doing Darkthrone, anyway he looked at some of the people in the crowd and was like "what a bunch of phony, fake poser motherfuckers here!" that's the general idea behind that song😂
Excited for the new album "Eternal Hails...", my opinion is that cult is alive to old star albums are just as good as soulside journey to panzerfaust. Fenriz blend of styles on food to underground resistance sound great to me and are stellar black heavy metal. Also love his vocals! Always become mid-life crisis black heavy metal!
this video is a goldmine of terrible pronunciations. It's not bothering me though. I like this guy. Makes me laugh. Especially when he Introduced Gylve and said GALF
The winds they called the dungeon shaker has possibly the greatest tremolo riff ever. Also, witch ghetto is the shit. You obviously weren't raised on rock.
To me every single album has its own story to tell up to this day, Darkthrone is a very unique band. You should continue this Retrospective with the later albums, 2019 - Old Star, 2021 - Eternal Hails and the 2022 - Astral Fortress
A blaze in the northern sky is what I consider my first black metal CD (I bought Bathory Blood Fire Death at the same time) and it will always be my favorite black metal album
I love that you mention skald of Satan's sun I own most of these boys albums but always listen to them as albums.. That song hits me every time (I'll be wondering around at night looking at stars, headphones in.. then I'll go "ah I fucking love this" whenever that starts) So cheers (Transylvanian hunger will always be my favourite though)
Glad im far from the only one who hates dimmu, but back to darkthrone i actually really like all darkthrone records PERIOD, some albums are weaker then others but what ever my mood im in i can just check my darkthrone archive and pick one of them, and enjoy it and im really glad i have that connection with this band, hands down one of my favorit bands to walk among us.
For me Soulside Journey cover is the best ever made along w From the Pagan Vastlands of Behemoth. Also Under a Funeral Moon is one of my absolute favourite BM album.
I'm glad you pointed out the beautiful melodies and the classical music underneath the whole crusty punk thing on top. That's exactly what I love about black metal.
I Love Gravejard Slut! XD It was always a Dancefloor-crusher in Metal-Clubs Like the Helvete in Oberhausen/Germany. My best friend and i rocked so hard to this song every visit, and the dancefloor was always ouers cause most metalheads dont like it.
Been a fan for over 25 years of Darkthrone, but Plaguewielder is easily one of their best and most underrated. The melodies at the end of "Wreak" alone are better than any single melody from their Black Trilogy.
I feel like many people don't understand their later stuff, it's very riff heavy and really drum heavy, seems like many people judge this bands music because of their lyrics, i play drums and guitar myself so i just single out the lyrics if im not into it that much, if their are nice instrumentals i just focus on that pretty much. I don't have any problems with their lyrics btw, like at all. I think it fits their stuff :)
You've made over 1600 black metal fans listen to Evanesance, That is some fine troll work right there. You have a future in this game. now that bastard song is stuck in my head like a wet fart who's smell lingers way longer than it should...and I'm not even annoyed...if it was unintentional then you are talented and you don't even see.
Transylvanian Hunger, Panzerfaust, Total Death, Ravishing Grimness, Hate Them, and Sardonic Wrath are my top 6. ABITNS, UAFM, Plaguewielder, and TCIA are next group of favs. The crust thrash punk era sucks.....started getting better again on Arctic Thunder and the new one Old Star.
Everytime a completely humourless black metal fan hears Evanescance they drop all their Kvlt and Trve like when Sonic gets hit by am enemy and drops the fuckin rings......People who worship Gaahl live in a different reality. they live under a stone on top of a mountain. but their consciousness is locked in a side scrolling platformer where corpsepaint is just your face and accidentally hearing a Taylor Swift song can drain all your Kvlt, lose it all no matter how far you've progressed you restart the whole game back at the Hipster's Hut where he weaves your Burzum T-Shirt out of Euronymous pubes....
I've always found Darkthrone to be complicated to really appreciate. I feel like thats because bands like Mayhem and Emperor always hit me with complex and fast instrumentation, whereas these guys just went with a "simple is best" approach.
I think Transylvanian Hunger has just become a mascott for BM to the point you cant even disagree with its status. It's just not that good. it's long, and monotonous, and really just sounds like something anyone, literally anyone could make in their living room. And it's actually the case considering how many copycats have tried, anddd, succeeded! There is no barrier to entry to create that album. Many times it's not even correctly in time with the drumming. I dont think it's the worst, but it's just not memorable aside from the opening track. The only Darkthrone albums I genuinely enjoy to an extent is Blaze and Panzerfaust.
I haven’t listened to other music able to recreate A blaze in the northern sky’s unique aesthetic, even darkthrone’s posterior music is way different, if someone could suggest me something that’s basically the same as ABINS I’d be thankful
We know we are black metal nerds when we enjoy listening to people talking about the bands.... good job mate.
It is NORWEGIAN!! NOT "NORWEGIC", you ignoramus!!
@@mCblue79 wooosshh
@@mCblue79 i like norwegic
I love the Transylvanian Hunger cover, unmatched.
Loved it in 1994 and love it now
Inspired by Dead on Mayhem's live in Leipzig
Do you know I heard something like it was an accident and they photocopied it too many times and it was supposed to be exactly like ABITNS and UAFM. Good thing they did its so iconic
so simple so fucking badass
The best thing about "Under a funeral moon" is Fenriz's floor tom.
It is the floor Tom? I thought they were fucking thunder samples
@@hectorvegasduque2234I thought so at first but then I listened carefully

Finally someone who also appreciates the post-Panzerfaust BM albums! 😎 Very good retrospective
A GLAZE ON THE NORTHERN PIES!

That recap of their formation and Soulside got my subscription. Good Shit!
I hated crust punk darkthrone in my early years, but i've grown to love it as well as the NWOBHM homage
lmlFIREHAMMERlml
Yeah I love some blackened thrash. Skeletonwitch is badass but they got a new singer, not sure about him.
ChaosTrident If you like blackened-trash if you haven’t defiantly check out witchaven or the skaden.
Veteran Legionary
Destroyer 666 and gospel of the horns: are we a joke to you?
I agree, Total Death is a killer album!!
The Unholy Trilogy can’t be beaten when it comes to Darkthrone.

Would love a Dissection retrospective! Keep up the good work man!
FUCK YEAH!!!!!!! 😈🤘🔥
Dissection is much better than most of Black Metal bands mentioned here!
Easicom dissection is a stupid melodic black metal band they suck shit out of Christ’s ass
oliver philippe I’m Christian, and their members are about as satanic as you can get
Wesley Scott you don’t know what your talking about they were very racist assholes back in the day and Jon kills a man because he is ethnic and gay

True Norwese Black Metal
Norger
norvegan!
norweaygi?
DarkThrone are like a rocking punk band unlike most corny black metal nonsense .
Panzerfaust is my favorite Album
Same
I would say panzerfaust too.
Yes, black metal is at it's best when it's focusing on paganism and nature and not "satanism" (which is still within the christian universe)

this video is a goldmine of terrible pronunciations. It's not bothering me though. I like this guy. Makes me laugh. Especially when he Introduced Gylve and said GALF
Great video even if I disagree with some of it. Personally I love all of Darkthrone's catalog. I'll definitely be checking out more of your videos.
The winds they called the dungeon shaker has possibly the greatest tremolo riff ever.

My personal favourite album is panzerfaust I really love the vocals

Transylvanian hunger is one of the best black metal albums of all time.So pure....so cold....

Darkthrone never made a bad album, also their crust/NWOBHM stuff is awesome
Hate Them is an underrated album.
I Agree!
Arctic Thunder was my gateway album into black metal. I remember being very iffy about the genre, but that album launched me into a spiral
Great discography review
A blaze in the norther sky and under a funeral moon my 2 fav albums

David actually found a lot of humour in Darkthrone lyrics
Under a funeral moon, sardonic wrath and total death are my top three favourite DT albums

please do a dimmu borgir retrospective hahah that shud be hilarious :D
Under a Funeral Moon was my first Darkthrone/BM album and still my favorite. For some reason ABITNS never hit me as much as this one
I actually like the crust punk Dark Throne era, however I really do enjoy your reviews so keep It Up.
Salvatore La Grasta Fenriz respects the roots of black metal. Hardcore, thrash etc.
Darkthrone invented the coolest punk sound yet. You just don't like it. Because you weren't raised on rock.
2019 Old Star anyone?
Music on that album is ok but i can’t stand fenriz on vocals
Top 10 album of that year.
@@DjProfiK Fenriz does not sing on Old Star.
Transylvanian Hunger is their masterpiece....but they had other ones. All releases up until The Cult is Alive were brilliant.
Matt Blackwood I really enjoyed The Cult is Alive personally
those "crust punk" albums had the best artwork though!
Great review, huge fan of Darkthrone! You should review Enthroned, One of the most underrated BM band in my opinion!
Panzerfaust and f.o.a.d are always in my rotation
I am the single minority. I listen to "Hate Them" album the most of all their disog..
Join the fucking DEEEEEEAAAAAAD!!
Hate them sucks shit you moron listen to the first three black metal releases
Varg from Burtzoom played bass parts on Transylvanian hunger
Glad you're the RAWR joke.
A fellow man of culture.
The crust punk trilogy is the best thing they ever did. I listen to them all the time.
The song you considered the worst on Under a Funeral Moon Is actually, according to fenriz, the best black metal track they ever made.
This video is why I know Dummy Burger exists and I don’t think I can ever forgive you.
Can you make Venom retrospective
one of your best video ! it would be funny if you would review dimmu borgir
lol thank you
kinda funny when you say like dimmu borgir you put on an evanescence's picture !
Old Dimmu
Is good
Plug em straight in that yellow jackets nest",,hahaaa hilarious, great analogy
Que continue .... Old Star 🌟
I wouldn't say Transilvanian hunger is the worst bm album they've made, but it's the most overrated one, or hyped up one
bathroy is all and all is bathory
Lol, that dimmu borgir troll was so funny ;D
The intro of the video is awesome
How great would it be to remaster the instrumental work on transilvaninan hunger to sound like ABITNS...
Soulside journey was so fuckin good,,,,but the following black albums were also so fuckin good
Great video man
Transylvanian Hunger, Panzerfaust, Total Death, Ravishing Grimness, Hate Them, and Sardonic Wrath are my top 6. ABITNS, UAFM, Plaguewielder, and TCIA are next group of favs. The crust thrash punk era sucks.....started getting better again on Arctic Thunder and the new one Old Star.

Will you ever do a Drudkh retro? It would be interesting to hear your review. Very diverse catalog!!
That Dimmu Borgir meme was frankly an insult to Evanescence

They always were the hardcore-punks of the BM scene...
"Skald av Satans sol" ("Bard of Satan's Sun")
