Thanks for that excellent comparison. I recently agonised about which saw to buy, but in the end it was an easy choice. Trying to keep cast iron from rusting in my "shop" is pretty much futile, so I went for the the smaller DeWalt.
I'd prefer cast iron as a table, and I really like the geared blade angle adjuster. It took me a while to get my 90 and 45 degree stops set but, fingers crossed, they've not shifted.
So far I'm delighted. The wet November would've meant a cast iron table would be rusted up, despite my best efforts.

Nice comparison between the two of them. It would be nice if we were able to get some of those Axminster tools here in the US because they made some good stuff. I like the form factor and you get an iron top with a similar footprint of the jobsite saw.
You actually can get much better saws in US. Look up for sawstop brand.
Nice video. Really helpful .i have the dewalt saw. But is far to loud to use in my loft.

I’d be interested to know how accurate the top of your Axminster is. I’ve just got one and it isn’t very flat. If I place a wide fence on the length of the table I get a gap of around 1.5mm or more. Across the table it is at least .4mm with a narrow precision edge and 0.7mm on length (slight diagonal). I also have a hump to left middle of saw blade. Love the table you’ve built about the table and would like to have seen a video on how you built the blade inserts & how/why you built the addition to the fence face.

I've been looking at the Axminster AW254TS for over a year.
In the mean time i got a Bosch GTS10J & also got a BOSCH PTA 2000 (somehow this stand doesn't get the saw surface level... so i got slightly bigger wheels for it 175 vs the 150 stock.. better)
Can you please take a few hundred pics a few minute video focusing on the interior lift/tilt mechanism? the motor drive, pullies etc. does it use a v belt of a poly-v belt?
Any way to get a better view of that?
I am thinking of building my own saw, from metal, mainly for the ability to use a quiet induction motor, dovetail lift mechanism, with a similar raise/lower screw to the DeWalt.. but i do have a ACME screw/ gear. I've already made some trunnions from steel for the saw
I'd be able to make my own T-square fence from steel.
The only thing is i'd probably try to use the steel plates i already have ~5mm .... it's bit rusty, and bent but i do own a few differed sizes of hammers :); but it would be steel, not cast iron.
it would probably cost me another ~ 200 euros to get the parts.. and a lot of work ... i would like the challenge, and in the end i could continue improving on it until i'd be satisfied.

Rockler needs to really step up their game and start manufacturing tools like Axminster does. That saw is a nice saw for the price. And more compact than a contractor saw or cabinet saw.

Thanks for this excellent video. I am considering swapping my dwe7492qs with the aw254ts however i have some questions which i hope you can clarify.
1. you grinded a little of the arbor shaft. Was this so you could use some dado blades ?
2. Would it be possible to grind down the 30mm ridge on the arbor flange inorder to use 5/8 blades and still making it possible to use 30mm bore blades using the dewalts 5/8 to 30mm outer flange and thereby slso obtaining some extra arbor space for dados or would this be too risky/tricky ?
Your view on this will be highly appreciated.

Each saw has its place dependent of your needs, as i have the same saw (previous model) it will be very interesting to see any modification done to the fence system.
how would you compare the noise level while cutting? is there a difference?

Looks like a great saw. I *almost* bought one in Axminster's Black Friday sale after I saw your post about it the other day, but I haven't really got a place to put it yet (i.e. one of your mobile workbenches!). I'll wait until they're next on sale!

I missed that! I have an old Draper CTS200 which just died (rise and fall only falls) which I think it a Kitty knock off but it only cost me £200 as the line was EOL. By the time I saw the Axy 254 one was on a Black Friday deal they'd all gone and backordered but no date. Kicking myself.

Is the Axminster AW254TS available in Europe ? (the UK shop does not ship to Europe it seems)
My only disappointment with you getting a new table saw on the bench is that now I won’t be able to cheat off you for a much better fence for the DeWalt like you previously mentioned you wanted to do in the future. I really love the clean commentary though and now I feel like I need to get an induction table saw too.

You must be located in the UK. Doesn't seem the Axminster table saw is available in the US
I have the Axminster and used to own the DeWalt. The reason to buy the Axminster was mostly that the DeWalt was very loud. Also, I like the cast iron top on the Axminster, but I must say that there is where my appreciation ends. The saw is underpowered, the ripfence is flawed, and removing the rivet knife is a nightmare, just to name a few things. If you can stand the noise the DW is absolutely more value for money. Both saws have poor dustcollection but that seems to be common in this price range, I have never come across a low range saw with good dustcollection.

Good comparison! It's funny...I have that same DeWalt saw and just got a Harvey cabinet saw. I was going to sell the DeWalt but have decided to keep it for off-site work. Do you laminate your own wood for the custom tops and jigs or is that commercial product?

in the US you can find good cast-iron top contractor saw for $150-$300 every day....
As op said - unfortunately Axminster do not ship to the US. It runs on 240v and I believe the hertz rate is different from the US to the UK so not sure if it would work if you got it over here.
I run my dewalt with a thicker kerf blade - FS Tools glue line rip, and have had no issues running many feet of mahogany and maple. The blade was about two-one thousands of an inch out of parallel out of the box.
For the money the you really can’t beat the dewalt.

I use both a job-site saw (DeWalt) and a cast iron table, 3hp induction motor table saw with cast iron sliding mitre table ( Charnwood W650). The latter should be better- it is not. Although quieter, it is not as accurate, needs constant adjustment, is a pain to change blades or riving knife, and has much poorer dust extraction. It cost twice as much. Move up market, and I am sure they get better- but paying four times as much for a quieter saw is not a good deal for a hobbyist. And they take way more space.
That is incredibly interesting. I've been looking at the dewalt and struggling to see the value that the cast iron "more professional" saws bring.
@@tomdysonwoodworking I agree. It is interesting that many woodworkers use a track-saw on an MDF table these days, and claim superior accuracy. So, thin aluminium on a wood table with alloy and plastic tools performs better? Not saying that is true, but it seems to work for them. Is cast iron essential? Would like to see a reasoned explanation. Quality of design seems the most important IMHO.
FWIW 5:52 Dewalt makes a Dado blade set for this saw as well
Looks like a solid bench saw, but the deal breaker for me would be that it doesn't have a long enough arbor to fully support wide dado stacks.
Dado stacks illegal in Europe so Axminister would consider that option.
For a stationary machine I would rather use the cast iron saw, but all models went out of production in my country, so now you have the jobsite saws or those huge panel saws, no in-between

Can I ask where you purchased the riving knife for your Axminster saw? I am in the UK, and have the 216 model, but when I tried to get a smaller riving knife (to pass the material completely over the top to make dado-like cuts) they said they could not sell these due to EU laws on machine safety. I am curious if you got from a place online that I could get too.
that riving knife is the one for the Dewalt saw, I'm going to buy another one to use with the Axminster saw
You can simply cut one with a grinder.

Are you satisfied with Axminster table saw accuracy? I saw few videos and see, that saw is not well accurate. Blade vs table is not 90 degree when you pull up or down the blade. Which benchtop saw would you buy with budget 4000 EUR? I know I could buy hybrid saw eg Lguna Fusion 3, but I love your workbench. I have small workshop thus mobility is number one for me. Mobility and accuracy. Thanks for reply.
it's not bad for its price, but as you say it has some flaws. The Laguna Fusion 3 is a good saw, you will not have problems. Pour l'instant je pense que je resterai sur la scie Dewalt.Je suis très content des plans que m'avait envoyé,et pour ma part j'ai rajouté une pompe à vide.J'aimerai maintenant lui ajouter un système d'aspiration mobile part dessus qui serait indépendant de de la scie et de la défonceuse sous table ,ce qui me permettrai d'utiliser les deux machines, sans avoir de manutention intermédiaire.Il y aurait qu'à faire pivoter le bras d'aspiration.je n'ai pas encore trouvé la solution, mais si tu en as une je suis preneur.merci encore continue tes vidéos elles sont top . cordialement

02:15 постараюсь объяснить разницу между двигателями. Коллекторный имеет большие потери на охлаждение и трение щеток, поэтому его эффективность (КПД) около 60%.
Асинхронный более совершенный - его КПД примерно 90%.
Результат для ваших пил:
2000* 0.6= 1200 против 1500*0.9=1350!
Однако есть недостатки и у асинхронного- например он быстрее теряет обороты при большой нагрузке( работе с толстым материалом или твёрдые породы дерева).

Dear Paoson, since I only have ten fingers, and I need them also for climbing and playing the piano, among ordinary life, the most important feature I'd like to have is the so called "saw stop" emergency when the blade detects a finger to be cut. The rest is nice to know, but it doesn't matter how much you pay if it doesn't have that safety feature it will cut your fingers. Being in Italy I don't find any. Therefore I stay with my current one Jobsite self modified table saw. Any comments on this? Thanks 🙏🏻🌞
You shouldn't rely on saw stop features to keep your fingers. Use push sticks and crown guards and your fingers wont get cut off.

Well if you put your fingers next to a saw blade anything can happen. Keep your hands away and you'll never have a problem it's not like the blade is going to jump up and bite you.

Adding another $800 job site saw that weighs 90kg to your setup… now I understand your choice for the large and expensive mobile workbench even less… and you still have the shortcomings to the fence that you had to address and create modifications for. Can you explain the logic behind choosing these types of saws instead of a larger cabinet saw to begin with?

The fence in axminster saw has a lot of play at the back, that’s a big disadvantage you didn’t mention! Your cut will never be even close to precise if your fence is moving during the cut

Your cast iron saw is pretty much at level of dewalt saw with extra cast iron top. Quality of cuts should be pretty much the same. The real difference should come when you get proper large iron cast saw with much longer fence, stronger motor, and sliding accessories for cutting 8x4 sheets. You can't.t really cut 8x4 sheets with small contractor saw. Well, you can, but results won't be great.
