This is the biggest event in the history of competitive surfing. For the first time ever, the World Title will be decided in a one-day, winner-take-all event. The top five men and top five women enter, and after 12 must-see heats, one male and female surfer will rise from the proving ground at Lower Trestles as this year’s undisputed World Champions.

having Slater AND Fanning announce the final is legendary. I actually want to hear what they say about the surfing because they have BOTH won multiple world titles. I'm not knocking the regular wsl announcers, they do a great job, but hearing top shelf surfers commentate on top shelf surfing is the ideal situation. Those guys really know what they are watching, and the insight is fascinating

I am 51 years old, and I have been watching surfing since 80/90/00/10/20, and I can tell you bro, I never complained to be watching Americans, Hawaiians, Australians, South Africans and others, that has dominated this sport for so long, even though I always appreciated it, because of the magic of the sport…despite who was riding the waves 🌊 or the Nationally of the surfer that has been Champion!!!
Any sport around the globe 🌎 it isn’t about the Nationality, or continent that you are coming from, or colour of the skinny, or how much money you have got, or anything like that…Sport it’s about who is the best!!!
So specially surfing…it’s about who is the best in what are you doing, and show in real life time, like Live, and Gabriel Medina does that…among others pro surfers, so please enjoy the journey!!!

My whole life I have learned surfing, with those countries, the nations mentioned above ⬆️ because they were the dominant surf nations, and I am very appreciative for that, honours for them!

Medina is a fricking beast! He has been the best since 2014! The only problem is the judges… they judge him separately, on his own standards. Like.. was that air that good for his standard? If not they lower the score. Because no one I mean NO ONE is surfing like him for years. If kelly or JJF throw a backflip like that, oh gosh the word will stop. Medina is the best, and he has has to be always on his toes surfing 1000 times better to win. RESPECT! Legend.
what a stupid comment. medina is a great surfer but, in this heat,toledo was better, more fun to watch,with a lot of variety in his surf. when surf is just about air,medina win, but surf is not about air ,it's not trampoline. jo, air, aritiuficial waves,surf is on the badway
You are just a hater that cannot accept the facts. Medina was in 5 out of 7 finals this year. I said 5! Medina surfs Pipe better than most Hawaiians. I’m from Hawai’i! I see it with my own eyes! Medina surfs Tahiti better than anyone. Medina surfs all types of waves, to beat him you have to show something extremely special. Seriously man, stop the the territorial racist crap, let’s accept that the dude is a freak. Toledo is good, he’s fast. But not on the same level.. to be a world champion you have to be complete and unfortunately he’s not. Still can work hard on his waves of consequence game.. but many others are ahead of him. My hat is off for Gabriel Medina.

I was stuck at work trying to watch this today, and believe it or not, I had an uncontrollable urge to tune in right as Medina was about to hit the Gorkin flip and knew I missed something huge somehow, but my boss was right on top of me doing me from taking a bathroom break, them boom, something in the air or whatever you call it told me I missed something perfect. 10 mins later I snuck away to watch the last 6 mins and be able to watch him win the title and congratulate him live, but damn if this isn't the second time I felt the same urge to tune in seconds before he hit his last Gorkin flip, back in France two years ago I think. There's something magic about this guy.

Medina won the mental game. Felipe pushing after Medina got a couple of scores. He needed to relax and let his surfing do the talking! But hats off to Medina, ultimate competitor. And the goat commentating was the cherry on the cake.

Toledo is great. I'm not sure there's a single guy who could beat Medina twice in a row, tho. Two mindblowing guys in the end of the day. Toledo is gonna get his one soon or late.

When Medina finishes the tour in second or third a few times and is still champion in Final 5, then they will go back to the old format. 100% sure of that.

Great format, WSL! Very interesting to watch, all the tension and emotion in one single day. The Brazilian Storm is dominating the sport right now! My favorite is Yago Dora, but he needs to be a bit more competitive.
