    I own a 1991 Olds Regency Elite. It is by far the best car i have ever owned. People have stopped me on the street and commented how great it looks. She rides just beautifully. I purchased it in 2002 from the 1st owner and she now has 178,000 miles.

      williamabeck46 I wondered how long they made the Regency Elite. I wasn't sure if they were available in the '90s. I remember them being a gorgous car.

      kirk kopak I am not sure either, you can Google to find out for sure. The last year for the '98 was either 1995 or 1996. The 1991 was the 50th anniversary edition of the Olds '98.

      YOUGOTIT210 They made the 88 Royale until 1998. I think the 98 was discontinued earlier. The Park Ave was made until 2005.

    when I was a teen (in the "90's) I wanted, I wanted a slightly used one of these soooo bad. thought they were so beautiful.

      yes i wanted one so bad too. I also wanted the Tornado Trofeo coupe with the VIC in it.

      Same here. I thought these new GM models had much better styling than before. I even watched Motorweek regularly at the time.

    God I miss cars like this Oldsmobile. It was sharp looking, the 3800 V6 was an awesome, reliable engine and that big old car could haul ass prettty good!

    absolutely wonderful cars, I owned a regency elite and loved it so much, (when I totaled it, it saved my life) I replaced it with a incredible Regency Touring Sedan, that was Super Charged!!! That car was just wonderful, quick, safe, luxurious.

      The Touring Sedan, was priced higher than the Park Ave Ultra because it offered so much more. The T.S. is now very collectible. Thumbs up!!!

      @@tomcomiskey6350 mine was a really sharp dark blue Met. with navy leather, every single option, I traded it in on a Old's Aurora, (what a mistake) typical NorthStar blown headgaskest at less then 60,0000 miles. never trusted it after that, so I just stored covered in the garage for like 10yrs. ended up selling it to believe it or not, a Cadillac dealer who put it on the showroom floor, it sat there for a couple of yrs, they were asking an insane price for it. Don't know if they ever sold it

    these cars rode great and got good mileage with the amazing 3.8 which was one of GMs best engines.

    Perhaps the nicest bucket seat and console combination GM ever made. The FE3 suspension package made a huge difference in handling and appearance also.

    You know I always am quick to wince at the memory of GM's extraordinarily generic vehicles between the mid-80's and the mid 2000's. This looks like a very nice ride for its time based on this video review. I have a penchant for driving German cars primarilly, but since the mid-2000s, GM has made vast and surprising improvements.

    I agree. I have driven a number of full size FWD GMs and the 98 Touring Sedan basically takes all the interesting characteristics of the Oldsmobile, Buick, and Pontiac versions and puts it in to one car.

    I am an owner of a 93 Touring Sedan (final year for the Touring Sedan - little over 1800 built)
    It's a fine car and drives very nicely.. and with the L67 3800 motor, it moves pretty swiftly for a large size sedan... very comfortable seats and I love driving it any chance I get!
    Most people prefer the Buick Ultra, but I'm personally partial to the look of the Oldsmobile.. as always, I'm in the acute minority

    This was as good as it got for GM large front drivers of the time. The excellent Buick made 3.8 and 440T4E trans was the best power combo GM ever made until the Northstar came out. Rear air suspension struts and other electronic problems plagued these cars, but it was a fine hiway cruiser.

      I got a comment about the NorthStar engine, then it was gone.. I'm not too sure on what that poster was saying, but that mill would last a long long time, provided the owners could keep them sealed up. It was a very good engine, very powerful, and returned good mileage as well. GM had some early teething problems with them at 1st, but after that, they run a very long time. I have 3 customers with them in their Caddys, each 1 with over 200k on them. To my knowledge, they have never been apart.

      I had one and if you watch your coolant levels and make sure the oil levels are fine , they ran really good. I had a 96 Deville,

    Our neighbors had the 94 version of this, with slightly nicer taillights, and I always thought it looked similar to the 1990 Lincoln Town Car from the rear.

    i have a 94' olds 88 royale it is a absolute beautiful car ive owned many cars alot of cadillac and buick and this olds 88 can hang with any of them...ill be upoading a video soon

    @daved1974 Agreed! I used to be a staunch Pontiac fan, but my last Pontiac experience (1997 Grand Am) left me cold. I'm on my second Olds now: a 1989 Delta 88 Royale Brougham. A wonderful highway machine. I bought it with 255000 km on it a little over a year ago and has never let me down. It needed pretty much a complete front end, as previous owners obviously did none. My only complaint is a sagging headliner.

    So GM had V6 FWD big cars. That's why GM fans think the Mercury Grand Marquis is a V6 FWD car.

    wonder why the Ford taurus as some size car stands as one of the best in the market to date , though it’s not the best looking car in compare with ( buick’s / oldsmobile ) .
    I think GM should kept the 4.3 rear wheel D engine as optional and gives the 98s/88s nicer front grill/ light .

    This may be a good year for that 3.8. The next year it was a "Series II" but had the same power. Teves brakes can be a pain; might as well buy a Lincoln Mark VII with the same brakes. And nope.. no 100th anniversary for Olds!

    Why was this more expensive than the Buick Park Avenue? GM had a real identity crisis with all of its different brands, but especially between Olds and Buick. I never really understood how they were supposed to differ. It kind of seemed like Buick was second only to Cadillac in luxury, and then Oldsmobile. But that doesn't make sense for these two cars. No wonder Olds died off.

      You're right...by the time of it's demise, Olds was almost interchangeable with Buick, and although Buick was one step higher in the GM "ladder of success", the Olds 98 always cost more than the Electra/Park Avenue and the Toronado always cost more than the Riviera. But most people thought the Buicks were better looking and more prestigious.

      Dash Riprock Yeah, count me as one of those who think Buicks are better looking than Oldsmobiles. This Olds is particularly fugly, imho. The Olds Aurora from the 90s was a pretty good-looking car, though. I also liked the look of the Alero, but by then Olds was already on its deathbed. Too many brands for today. Made sense back when the entire market was pretty much GM/Ford/Chrysler.

      belongs in the Buick line as a GS.
      Chevy already has the camaro the SS should have been the "fast with class" car. As far as the Buick and Olds thing,
      olds was supposed to be the "sportier" top tier luxury brand while buick was the "doctor's cadillac"
      funny how its powered by a BUICK engine though

    Such a disappointing replacement for the beautiful 1985 to 1990 regency 98. The front looks like a clown & the back is a mockery of previous regency 98

    They were decent soft feeling cars, my mother was a fan of that type. I can't believe they got $29K for that. Think of that as a 60K car in today's terms. There just isn't enough there to justify that.

      MrTheMiguelox I remember those days. Back then you still had to pay for fm radio in most cars. Let alone stuff like ps, pdl, pw. Girlfriend back then had a car with no overdrive an no passenger side mirror.

      I happen to like these cars, think they're beautiful without being overstated and seem plush, comfortable and powerful. In my opinion, it looks more formal and better than the Park Avenue. It's too bad they were priced so high, helping to lead to its demise and that of the entire line.

    Luxury car nose dive haha, check out all the BMW retro reviews, the nose doesn't dive at all, in fact the whole car just squats a little on all four corners when hurried to a stop

    I bought an 89 Trofeo to replace my totally awesome 85 Toro Brougham and it was a dreadful car. GM bought it back under lemon law and put me in a 90 98 Regency Brogham. I didn't really want it but it turned out to be a REALLY great car! Red with red leather! Sure wish the cars today came with some choices... (like red leather!!). When the 91 98's came out, I wnated one REAL BAD but there wasn't the need for it so i waited and got an incredible Cadillac Concourse in a dark cherry color. KILL-ER! I think those were the last good ones. Everything from there on out has been FUGLY and always getting worse. Switched to Lincolns years ago and LOVE EM!!

      Very cool! So you purchased the Trofeo new and subsequently bought a new 98? It's always neat to hear from people who actually purchased these cars new, and experienced them new and just being a cool person to do so at the time. Very nice. My parents purchased a new 1992 Buick Riviera with sunroof and pinstripe for ~$32k in 1992, it blew my mind and they were ontop of the world with a big American luxury.

      Olds made it to their 100th Anniversary. 1997. Olds died in 2004.

    these just didn't look as good as the Buick Park Ave. I was looking for a Used Park Ave in 1996, and we were at the Cadillac dealer, where my friend worked and there were several Park Ave's and one Olds 98 sitting next to each other and it just looked a bit too boxy. Sadly I didn't get one, they were all 91 models and they all had high miles on them,
    I wound up with a Loaded 92 Mercury Sable, off the same lot. My need for a new car was the back seat had to hold 3 cars seats, as all 3 of my girls were still in a car seat, and that Sable took care of that need

      all the used Park Avenues then ( a favorite with people in Sales and traveling) had 100K miles on them. I did replace the Sable with a Late 90's Deville so I did roll in 90s Luxury , just a bit later

      i think the Oldsmobile was slightly less susceptible to the GM quality control issues of the day though.
      Remember that these were still the benchmark until Lexus came along......
      they werent total crap.

      Cars today are so boring and plain. The interiors look almost alike too with no colors other than stupid gray and black. Yuck!
