Hard as it is to believe, the plant where these Lincolns were manufactured, has been fully razed. That was in Wixom, MI, where I once worked, and it was the most profitable plant in the world, at one time. It would generate $1B/year profits! But it now totally gone!
I used to drive a 1990 Lincoln town Car for a Airport Transportation company! It Drove very smooth, nice roomy interior and a very huge trunk to carry plenty of luggage!...God Bless!

I have a "rule" for car durability: See what the police departments and taxi companies use. Get a car based on that platform. For decades the cops used Crown Vics .Some are STILL in service Police service - I saw a pre 1997 one IN SERVICE (It had the 92-96 "nose" and "greenhouse".) on a video at the Nashville Christmas incident! Buy a civilian owned "Panther" like A Mercury or a Lincoln, and it MIGHT out live YOU, and I'm a GM fan saying that! 👍😊👍

I LOVE bench seats. Had it in a few of my cars. Had a 11' Caddy DTS Livery that had it. Got totalled and replaced with another 11' DTS but Premium. Every option but came with floor shift+5 seats standard. Sold to my dad and bought a 14' ESV. Still missed the bench seat and I just added a 97' LTC Cartier ❤. Got my bench seat back and it makes it easy for naughty adult activity too lol.
Hate bench seats. I’m 6’1” and when I would ride with a 5’2” person they had the seat so far up to reach the pedals my knees were in the glove box. Split bench or buckets......
Toasters are uncomplicated appliances with heating elements, a thermostat, switches, and plugs and cords. Most of the time when they malfunction, they just haven’t been cleaned thoroughly enough. What to do when your toast won’t stay down The latch that locks the carriage in place may be blocked by crumbs. To clean them out, you need a screwdriver, canned air or a handheld pump, and lubricant, which you can get at an appliance service center. Now follow these steps: Unplug the toaster. Remove the carriage lever and unscrew the front cover. When the cover is off, blow any crumbs from the latch assembly. Test the latch to make sure it moves up and down easily. If it still sticks, apply a little lubricant. Look at the heating coils too to see whether all the crumbs have been removed. If not, blow them out with the forced air. After cleaning and lubricating the toaster, put the cover back, plug it in, and fix yourself some toast. If the toast still won’t go up or down, buy yourself a new toaster. I drove my 91 Colony Park (also a Panther) from Oklahoma City to Northern Indian in one day and arrived remarkably fresh. An excellent long distance machine.
The 1990-1997 Town Car is the most sought after version; you knew what this car was coming down the road, and the 2003-2010 model was nice as well. Lincoln is a far better car than Cadillac, especially for reliability, and the Town Car is no exception, but Lincoln needs a large rear drive sedan and coupe for it's market...
98-2002 were good cars, but butt ugly. It was a horrible disappointment after the 95-97 Town Cars, which were some of the best looking Lincolns since the early 70s.
@@joshuajordan8574 1998-2002 Town Car was 6 inches shorter than the Ford Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis, and the reason was that there was 6 inches of space that was removed on the Town Car to cater to younger buyers. Lincoln also removed the hood ornament, and a Town Car is SUPPOSED TO HAVE A HOOD ORNAMENT. IN 2003, body was squared back up, along with putting back the hood ornament. I've owned 2 Town Cars, and they were wonderful. They were better cars than any Cadillac I've ever had to drive, and Lincoln made a car that was reliable and comfortable, unlike Cadillac.

I think it is a situation where you either love everything about it or you don't. I for one love the ride the styling the seats the dash the smoothness, everything! Its all about the attitude with this car.
It is common to see these town cars with 350,000 to 500,000 miles or more.. Great cars for sure.. Just look at them on Craigslist for sale.. Not that I would want one with that many miles on it...

I can tell you from an experience I had today with my mint 1994 Town Car. A herd of deer jumped in front me, I slammed the brakes and mine did the same thing. Sent groceries flying all over the car but it was easy to keep in a straight line and stopped quickly.
I love the way this body looks. And for the time, it performed surprisingly well in crash tests. It would be great to take one of these and rebuild it with better breaks, suspension, and a big lazy V8. Keeping the comfort, but improving the handling.
Just imagine this same car with a Coyote DOHC 5.0 and a 10-Speed (and a AWD version for ppl that cant drive RWD in the snow) and all the tech from the dearly departed Continental.
It was initially standard with dual airbags, but when the facility that produced the passenger airbag propellant caught fire, the passenger airbag became a delete option with a credit for the missing airbag on the window sticker. Owners of those Town Cars had the option to add the missing airbag at the price of the credit issued once supplies became available. Starting in early 1992, all Town Cars had dual airbags from the factory. I think this also applied to the Continental from these days

Oh how standards have changed. I have a 03 grand marquis and honestly it's not that floaty. You can definitely feel the frame though, it rides somewhere between a suburban and a camry of the same year imo
My grandfather, up until last year, drove a 1994 Town Car, and it was a great car. Now he has a 2004 Town Car, and it's just as luxurious as his 1994 was, but even more! (:
My uncle back in the 80’s used to replace with a brand new town cars every 3 or 4 years and each new generation was improved so much more from the previous generations! So smooth and best highway cruiser in the world!
I bought one of these with a cracked exhaust manifold at an auction for $300 years ago. Fixed it and took it for a spin a couple times. It was the comfiest ride on highways. Eventually sold it but always regretted doing so.
Every so often I see one of these on the road, and usually it's condition is average... just another car. "Hey, a town car." Doesn't sink in until later that the thing is almost thirty years old and still just running around like it's nothing special. Caught in a time bubble... happens to the first gen Taurus too, you spot a nice one and it's not significant enough in the mind from a mid-90's car to make that contact that it's a mid EIGHTIES car and all it's competition looked like bricks. That shiny 1'st gen Taurus you spot could be THIRTY THREE YEARS OLD. Do you remember 2000, fellow old farts? A thirty year old car in 2000 would have been from 1970. Tell me the state of the automobile never improved....
My friends uncle had a 91' model, minus the clear coat fading it was a great car, and got decent gas mileage on it, he had it up until the brakes went out on it 4 years ago and totaled it, even though it was 21 years old I was told both airbags still worked flawlessly

The 90 Town Car was a great improvement in all the right areas. Remember this was 26 years ago and the engineers were designing the new 90 in 1987-90. The 91 4.6 brought even more improvements and better mpg and acceleration. This car should be compared to a 90 Cadillac Brougham or even a 93 Brougham.
+Freddy Hollingsworth Thats a good comparison-90 Brougham vs Town Car. Brougham had standard digital instrumentation and standard abs brakes. Brougham also used a more modern electronic climate control and the optional EFI 5.7L engine was more powerful than Fords 5.0. 90 Town Car was a fresh modern design and offered the trip computer as an option and had dual airbags. Both cars have aged well IMO but I didn't care for the Broughams standard carbureted engine.
I wouldn't say it was designed in 1987-90. This generation of Town Car was pretty finalised by mid-1986 (clip at 1:56 above is from 1986) and received engineering sign-off in December 1988, ahead of production start-up in the second half of 1989. The only thing new in late 1990 was the 4.6L V8. There is a deep backstory on development of this from 1985 to 1988.

Recently aquired a 97 Town Car Signature in Pearl Metallic... beautiful car and the addition on Bilstein shocks has tamed the whale and now have a genuine road car.
I'm SOOO fortunate to have found a '96 Signature Touring Edition with the Ride Control Package back in 2003. What's that? Believe it or not, a Town Car with the Police Interceptor frame, power train and suspension. 178,000 miles and no end in sight. Passengers have asked if I have 100 lbs. of pressure in the tires (the ride's a bit stiff for a TC, but I LOVE the firm steering and near-total lack of body roll), but they always look forward to a ride in the "mafia staff car." Did I mention it's black over silver with black leather interior? I think I'm going to be buried in it... 😉
Saw a burgundy ‘90 town car signature series on Craigslist last July. I wanted a car to drive to work, as my 1994 Cadillac Deville is way too nice to take on gravels and side roads. The ad for the town car was for 850 dollars. Met the old farmer who had it, handed him 500 dollars, shook hands, and drove it an hour home. Bought it with 203,XXX miles and have since put 10,000 on. Nothing done to it but changed the oil and filter. She stands up to a lot of abuse, and I must say the steering and ride is superb (the back suspension is crown Vic springs though). I’ve had it up to 130 on the highway, SO SMOOTH. Yes, the speedometer only goes to 85 but I passed a friend who was going 120 and I passed him with ease. 5.0 V8 Power Baby 😂. Yes you can accuse me of abuse but at the same time my car was bought as a farm car, and will be continued to be used like one. Although I wouldn’t mind finding a nice one to compliment my caddy, because if my “beater Lincoln” can survive high speeds on the highway, jumps, ruts, and mud holes on gravel, as well as trailer towing, I feel it would make a great show/road trip car for daily use. “Pass everything but a gas station!”
I always loved the 1991-94 and 1995-1997 Town Car. Beautiful, elegant, full-size, traditional American luxury. I miss American luxury cars like this that died off with the trend of everything being sporty and European inspired.
I drove one from this model generation. I booked a compact car back in 96, but Budget had none on their lot, so they upgraded me to a Town Car for free. 😁 I'd never buy a car like this, but it definitely made a leisurely ride that weekend.
I had a 1990 town car. The Michelins were gone at 34,000 miles. The motor, tranny and ride were excellent. Two fingers steering at highway speeds. For such a heavy car, the 4.7 liter V8 had good pickup.I had 6-way heated leather seats.Good car, great comfort, good gas mileage. Car had a Mafia-style 10 body trunk.
It only had 150 horses under the hood , but at 270 ft lb torque you would not know it .Those cars could burn rubber and take off like a bullet from hell . you could place dead bodies in the trunk and the air suspension would relevel the car so that it would not drag at the back in any way .They only got maybe 12 to 15 miles to the gallon on a good day , and thats only if you weighed 130 lbs with the spare tire removed from the trunk . I miss those cars and all the screwing around with my girls in the back seats of my lincoln back in the day (yesiiiir hepieyiya).
There was definitely something wrong with your car I have had several Lincoln’s from 76 to 05 and the only one that was that hard on gas was the few I had with the big 460 cid 4 bbl my 81 tc average about 20 mpg and my 05 was the best it would get 34 mpg highway I reluctantly parted with it at 460k on the odometer because my nephew needed a car to get to work and I am still kicking myself in the butt for parting with it but I will get another one the newer ones just don’t drive or ride the same I would never dream of traveling across the country in one of the new uncomfortable cars they build now

I Drive a 97 the last year of this body style it's a sweet car it took me forever to find one worth buying but I finally got it not sure which body style I like best I've drove the real big onewith the 460 I think maybe the 80s version might be the best if you were talking brand new take your pick it's still hard though to pick a winner not really a fan of the 98 and newer model but maybe as time passes if I found a really nice one I could change my mind
I just bought my third one a couple weeks ago, a nice '97. It's in fantastic condition, it has 212k miles on it but it still runs and drives perfectly and surprisingly every single thing still works! An awesome deal too for only $800.

Just bought a 1990 Towncar signature series from an estate of a man whom passed away. It has 112k miles. Can't wait to tint her up and take a road trip even though it only gets 13 mpg.

This body style of the Lincoln Town Car is beautiful and sharp. These cars were highway cruisers and were reliable; fuel mileage was respectable for their size. I’d take a Lincoln Town Car over a Cadillac any day of the week…

david, your comment is ridiculous. That's all that you guys argue about. Torque. It makes 150bhp, it's slow as shit and weighs 2 tonnes. That's 75bhp per tonne. Try a mid 1980s BMW 533i, it had a 3.2L straight six engine, 194bhp with 210ft-lbs of torque. It would have destroyed a town car, especially with a manual transmission which was much faster than the stupid, sluggish 4 speed AOD found in the Town Car. You're American, I'm European, we have different opinions. However, you cannot argue that a great big stupid inefficient 5.0V8 is any good. The modular 4.6L V8 was alright, that was a basic engine with 240+bhp but that was later on.
David Topchiev 270 torque. The panther platform cars were dogs with the 5.0. Keep in mind my friends 1988 Toyota V6 pickup had 150 hp/180 ftp. The was no reason for Ford to de-tune the Town car's 5.0. Hard to believe just 4 years latter my 1994 Trans am had 285/325 stock. Different segment for sure but this car was a total dog to drive brand new in 1990. No way around it.
I hope someday we go back to this American luxury leading the way these were such great cars, and although people associate them as old peoples car, if Ford spent money, Lincoln could’ve been the leading brand of the world

After cleaning and lubricating the toaster, put the cover back, plug it in, and fix yourself some toast.
If the toast still won’t go up or down, buy yourself a new toaster.
What to do when the toast won’t pop up
Your toaster’s thermostat may be set incorrectly. To reset it, follow these steps:
Unplug the toaster.
Take off the carriage lever and front cover and look for a knob, screw, or nut located near the toast light-to-dark control on the outside of most toasters.
Turn the knob, screw, or switch to the left, as on the lighter-control position.
Replace the cover, plug in the toaster, and test it by toasting a piece of bread.
If the toast still burns, then the thermostat has to be reset. This is controlled either by a dial or lever usually on the front of the toaster. You can reset the thermostat. Here’s how.
If you turn a dial to make the toast light-to-dark, take the dial knob off.
Readjust the screw behind it, turning it toward “lighter” on the toaster - or darker if the bread won’t toast.
You’ll probably have to turn the screw only slightly, not a full turn.
Put the knob back on and test the toaster with a slice of bread.
If the toast is still dark, then adjust the screw a little again.
If your toaster has a lever controlling light and dark, bend it slightly up or down. For instance if you want your toast lighter, and the display for lighter is at the top of the lever channel, then you will bend the lever up.
What if your toast won’t stay down and the toaster buzzes?
This usually happens because the toaster hasn’t cooled off. You can correct this problem by setting the control to dark or just depressing the lever again. If waiting or resetting the control doesn’t work, then the solenoid switch needs to be replaced, a moderately difficult repair. Call for a service estimate and if it’s too high, buy a new toaster

I drove my 91 Colony Park (also a Panther) from Oklahoma City to Northern Indian in one day and arrived remarkably fresh. An excellent long distance machine.
This was my favorite Towncar body too.
The 1990-1997 Town Car is the most sought after version; you knew what this car was coming down the road, and the 2003-2010 model was nice as well. Lincoln is a far better car than Cadillac, especially for reliability, and the Town Car is no exception, but Lincoln needs a large rear drive sedan and coupe for it's market...

98-2002 were good cars, but butt ugly. It was a horrible disappointment after the 95-97 Town Cars, which were some of the best looking Lincolns since the early 70s.
@@joshuajordan8574 1998-2002 Town Car was 6 inches shorter than the Ford Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis, and the reason was that there was 6 inches of space that was removed on the Town Car to cater to younger buyers. Lincoln also removed the hood ornament, and a Town Car is SUPPOSED TO HAVE A HOOD ORNAMENT. IN 2003, body was squared back up, along with putting back the hood ornament. I've owned 2 Town Cars, and they were wonderful. They were better cars than any Cadillac I've ever had to drive, and Lincoln made a car that was reliable and comfortable, unlike Cadillac.

Cadillac(GM) is not in touch with passenger-car customers wants and needs. On the new CT6....it basically a stretched Commodore sedan. GM went for the $1.00 door handle/latch assemblies;even though customers in focus-group studies preferred the rather ornate $3.50 cent units.
Almost $100,000 for a loaded CT6, and the company that makes it went cheap. Few people will buy it.Wonder why? Auto Journalists have notes, it's interior is put together with less-than materials. Same attitude at Ford/Fiat-Chrysler.....screw the customer and skimp on important details.

I can tell you from an experience I had today with my mint 1994 Town Car. A herd of deer jumped in front me, I slammed the brakes and mine did the same thing. Sent groceries flying all over the car but it was easy to keep in a straight line and stopped quickly.

I love the way this body looks. And for the time, it performed surprisingly well in crash tests. It would be great to take one of these and rebuild it with better breaks, suspension, and a big lazy V8. Keeping the comfort, but improving the handling.
Just imagine this same car with a Coyote DOHC 5.0 and a 10-Speed (and a AWD version for ppl that cant drive RWD in the snow) and all the tech from the dearly departed Continental.

It was initially standard with dual airbags, but when the facility that produced the passenger airbag propellant caught fire, the passenger airbag became a delete option with a credit for the missing airbag on the window sticker. Owners of those Town Cars had the option to add the missing airbag at the price of the credit issued once supplies became available. Starting in early 1992, all Town Cars had dual airbags from the factory. I think this also applied to the Continental from these days

I bought one of these with a cracked exhaust manifold at an auction for $300 years ago. Fixed it and took it for a spin a couple times. It was the comfiest ride on highways. Eventually sold it but always regretted doing so.

Every so often I see one of these on the road, and usually it's condition is average... just another car. "Hey, a town car." Doesn't sink in until later that the thing is almost thirty years old and still just running around like it's nothing special. Caught in a time bubble... happens to the first gen Taurus too, you spot a nice one and it's not significant enough in the mind from a mid-90's car to make that contact that it's a mid EIGHTIES car and all it's competition looked like bricks. My friends uncle had a 91' model, minus the clear coat fading it was a great car, and got decent gas mileage on it, he had it up until the brakes went out on it 4 years ago and totaled it, even though it was 21 years old I was told both airbags still worked flawlessly

The 90 Town Car was a great improvement in all the right areas. Remember this was 26 years ago and the engineers were designing the new 90 in 1987-90. The 91 4.6 brought even more improvements and better mpg and acceleration. This car should be compared to a 90 Cadillac Brougham or even a 93 Brougham.
+Freddy Hollingsworth Thats a good comparison-90 Brougham vs Town Car. Brougham had standard digital instrumentation and standard abs brakes. Brougham also used a more modern electronic climate control and the optional EFI 5.7L engine was more powerful than Fords 5.0. 90 Town Car was a fresh modern design and offered the trip computer as an option and had dual airbags. Both cars have aged well IMO but I didn't care for the Broughams standard carbureted engine.
I wouldn't say it was designed in 1987-90. This generation of Town Car was pretty finalised by mid-1986 (clip at 1:56 above is from 1986) and received engineering sign-off in December 1988, ahead of production start-up in the second half of 1989. The only thing new in late 1990 was the 4.6L V8. There is a deep backstory on development of this from 1985 to 1988.

I'm SOOO fortunate to have found a '96 Signature Touring Edition with the Ride Control Package back in 2003. What's that? Believe it or not, a Town Car with the Police Interceptor frame, power train and suspension. 178,000 miles and no end in sight. Passengers have asked if I have 100 lbs. of pressure in the tires (the ride's a bit stiff for a TC, but I LOVE the firm steering and near-total lack of body roll), but they always look forward to a ride in the "mafia staff car." Did I mention it's black over silver with black leather interior? I think I'm going to be buried in it... 😉

Saw a burgundy ‘90 town car signature series on Craigslist last July. I wanted a car to drive to work, as my 1994 Cadillac Deville is way too nice to take on gravels and side roads. The ad for the town car was for 850 dollars. Met the old farmer who had it, handed him 500 dollars, shook hands, and drove it an hour home. Bought it with 203,XXX miles and have since put 10,000 on. Nothing done to it but changed the oil and filter. She stands up to a lot of abuse, and I must say the steering and ride is superb (the back suspension is crown Vic springs though). I’ve had it up to 130 on the highway, SO SMOOTH. Yes, the speedometer only goes to 85 but I passed a friend who was going 120 and I passed him with ease. 5.0 V8 Power Baby 😂. Yes you can accuse me of abuse but at the same time my car was bought as a farm car, and will be continued to be used like one. Although I wouldn’t mind finding a nice one to compliment my caddy, because if my “beater Lincoln” can survive high speeds on the highway, jumps, ruts, and mud holes on gravel, as well as trailer towing, I feel it would make a great show/road trip car for daily use. “Pass everything but a gas station!”

I always loved the 1991-94 and 1995-1997 Town Car. Beautiful, elegant, full-size, traditional American luxury. I miss American luxury cars like this that died off with the trend of everything being sporty and European inspired.
I drove one from this model generation. I booked a compact car back in 96, but Budget had none on their lot, so they upgraded me to a Town Car for free. 😁 I'd never buy a car like this, but it definitely made a leisurely ride that weekend.
I had a 1990 town car. The Michelins were gone at 34,000 miles. The motor, tranny and ride were excellent. Two fingers steering at highway speeds. For such a heavy car, the 4.7 liter V8 had good pickup.I had 6-way heated leather seats.Good car, great comfort, good gas mileage. Car had a Mafia-style 10 body trunk.

It only had 150 horses under the hood , but at 270 ft lb torque you would not know it .Those cars could burn rubber and take off like a bullet from hell . you could place dead bodies in the trunk and the air suspension would relevel the car so that it would not drag at the back in any way .They only got maybe 12 to 15 miles to the gallon on a good day , and thats only if you weighed 130 lbs with the spare tire removed from the trunk . I miss those cars and all the screwing around with my girls in the back seats of my lincoln back in the day (yesiiiir hepieyiya).

There was definitely something wrong with your car I have had several Lincoln’s from 76 to 05 and the only one that was that hard on gas was the few I had with the big 460 cid 4 bbl my 81 tc average about 20 mpg and my 05 was the best it would get 34 mpg highway I reluctantly parted with it at 460k on the odometer because my nephew needed a car to get to work and I am still kicking myself in the butt for parting with it but I will get another one the newer ones just don’t drive or ride the same I would never dream of traveling across the country in one of the new uncomfortable cars they build now

I Drive a 97 the last year of this body style it's a sweet car it took me forever to find one worth buying but I finally got it not sure which body style I like best I've drove the real big onewith the 460 I think maybe the 80s version might be the best if you were talking brand new take your pick it's still hard though to pick a winner not really a fan of the 98 and newer model but maybe as time passes if I found a really nice one I could change my mind

Just bought a 1990 Towncar signature series from an estate of a man whom passed away. It has 112k miles. Can't wait to tint her up and take a road trip even though it only gets 13 mpg.

This body style of the Lincoln Town Car is beautiful and sharp. These cars were highway cruisers and were reliable; fuel mileage was respectable for their size. I’d take a Lincoln Town Car over a Cadillac any day of the week…

david, your comment is ridiculous. That's all that you guys argue about. Torque. It makes 150bhp, it's slow as shit and weighs 2 tonnes. That's 75bhp per tonne. Try a mid 1980s BMW 533i, it had a 3.2L straight six engine, 194bhp with 210ft-lbs of torque. It would have destroyed a town car, especially with a manual transmission which was much faster than the stupid, sluggish 4 speed AOD found in the Town Car. You're American, I'm European, we have different opinions. However, you cannot argue that a great big stupid inefficient 5.0V8 is any good. The modular 4.6L V8 was alright, that was a basic engine with 240+bhp but that was later on.
David Topchiev 270 torque. The panther platform cars were dogs with the 5.0. Keep in mind my friends 1988 Toyota V6 pickup had 150 hp/180 ftp. The was no reason for Ford to de-tune the Town car's 5.0. Hard to believe just 4 years latter my 1994 Trans am had 285/325 stock. Different segment for sure but this car was a total dog to drive brand new in 1990. No way around it.
