I live in Maryland. The water is so bad here I invested in a distiller & I use the optional filter. Well worth the $100 for the distiller. Not one drop of build up. The distiller on the other hand, ideally I should be cleaning it after each and every use because the water is so bad.
I feel your pain. I've lived with water like that. Right now, we're under a "only use water for flushing" order, so I've been using bottled water in the Opal, and the ice tastes pretty good, so I might continue to use it for a while.
Thanks for the update! I just got one of these. Question - After you scoop some ice out and it starts making ice again, does yours pour a stream of water over the back of the ice bin?
I've never seen that happen, but it might. As I pointed out in the video, there was a bit of discoloration at the back of the bin which I assumed was from the ice piling up there, but it might be what you're talking about, too. If it makes ice OK, I wouldn't worry, as any water will just run out the plug at the bottom of the bin and back into the cycle.
The first unit's water pump went quit. GE replaced it. The second unit, I guess, chatting with the tech support, the motherboard was faulty, and the third unit is stuck on DEFROST..... It was purchased at BEST BUY, they do NOT take appliances back.... GE would NOT take it back, hence I dropped it off at the service desk at BEST BUY, and with the purchase made through American Express within 70 days, A.M. withheld, or took the payment back from Best Buy.... I recorded the drop off at Best Buy as a fail safe.... My Experience, this counter top Ice Maker is, at best, JUNK.... Save yourself a lot of time and aggravation and avoid at all CostS..... Heavy on the CostS..... JUNK!!!!!
That's terrible! Mine OTOH has been making ice nonstop for almost two years. That's some serious variation in quality. (And American Express to the rescue!)
