    First reactor to spot Diana in the tavern - well done! 👍
    Don't know if you've seen any of the documentaries or interviews, but the two actresses who play Alicent and Rhaenyra (Olivia Cooke and Emma D'Arcy) have become best buddies in real life and do a LOT of the show promo together. The chemistry is real and a joy to watch.

      Just like his father... Viserys was sitting on the throne unnecessarily just to talk to his brother, and what's more, he was holding the conqueror's sword. The number of times he grabbed the hilt of his dagger while having it attached to his belt while talking to others, as if to reassure himself, is too numerous to count.

    I love your reactions, thank you💚
    Now I'll give a little detail on behalf of the Greens, if you don't mind.
    1. Everyone says Aegon surrounds himself with idiots, but that's a dubious claim. Yes, Otto is definitely the best politician of his time, you can't argue with that. But he openly put himself above the king. You can't do that.
    2. Everyone forgets that Сriston Cole is the only person with actual combat experience. Rhaenyra chose him to be a guardsman for that reason. There hasn't been a war in Westeros for 70 years, so Criston’s experience is somewhat unique. Recall that he was knighted for taking three towers in difficult mountainous terrain in one day. That's quite an accomplishment, not to mention that Cole is probably the best swordsman of his time. He's also a low-born Dornishmen, meaning he's discriminated against on two levels at once: socially and racially. He's poorly educated and inept at scheming, but you can't say he doesn't know his stuff well. And even the plan with Arryk would have succeeded if it weren't for Myssaria.
    3. Yes, Ser Gwaine was at the tournament in season 1.
    4. Yes, Rhaenyra still doesn't have the hand and the rest of the council positions.
    5. Aegon is still the most active leader shown in this show. Maybe not all of his ideas are good, but it's a great contrast to his father and sister.
    6. Aegon's friends are nobles and have been learning how to handle a sword since they were children. He trusts them. Perhaps he could pick better candidates if he had time, but there is no time.
    7. Aegon's friends are nobles from the houses that first supported the Greens. One is named Martin Reyne (yes, the Reynes of Castamere), the other is Leo Estermont (the second most important house in the Stormlands). Finally, the dark-skinned one's name is Ned Waters, meaning he's a bastard. Whose bastard exactly? We don't know, but there is a theory that Vaemond Velarion's bastard.

    35:17 Yes Alicent really believes it until that point. Remember the talk she had with King Viserys at the bonfire, where he was contemplating if naming Rhaenyra really was the right move and how he talked about his dream of having a male heir? She knew right there that he wanted Aegon to become King, but held fast to Rhaenyra because he didn't want to go back on his word an dbetray his daughter's trust. For Alicent it made perfectly sense that he could have changed his mind, while talking about a dream and his eldest son's name. She just connected the dots wrongly, because she didn't know about the Song of Ice and Fire.

    You're one of a few reactors and viewers who did not misinterpret that last scene. If Alicent could stop the war, she would definitely do it. But it was punctuated, especially at the council we saw earlier that episode, that she is powerless now. There's no stopping Aegon. There's no stopping Cole and the army. And after being shamed by Aegon and always being that second son, there's definitely no stopping Aemond. Especially after Otto was removed. There was never any stopping it anyways. On the flip side, Rhaenyra can't stop Daemon either. The war is inevitable... it always was. There's too much corruption and greed in man to ever prevent them from happening.

    A lot of people are quick to call Rhaneyra's plan to speak to Alicent stupid. Where I see their point (I clearly do!), I offer this rebuttal: What is the worst that happens? If Rhaneyra was caught and killed, Jaecerys and Daemon are still alive. The Blacks would still have leadership, and they would be more emboldened than ever to fight on in her name. See, this moment shows that Rhaneyra is gladly willing to die if it somehow means one last chance at peace. It is a testament to Rhaneyra's character and morality. She does not care about her own life. It's truly of no consequence to her when weighed against the slight possibility for peace in the realm. The end result, if it does not work, is war anyway. If only we had leaders who were willing to give up their lives, even on a foolish mission or quest to try to save the lives of hundreds of thousands (maybe even millions) in return. Was it far-fetched and foolish? Sure. Was it worth it? Yes. And at least now she can proceed without the weight of guilt on her shoulders. She knows she was never cast aside by her father, she is the rightful heir, and that the war is inevitable now. She can push forward now with nothing lying heavily upon her conscience. A clearer head makes for a better leader.

    • @IslandpferdeHaukagil
      @IslandpferdeHaukagil 3 месяца назад +2

      If she is so selfless and great, doesn't care about her life and would do literally everything to avoid war, why doesn't she declare Aegon king then? The easiest way to make use no one has to die 😉

    • @CoryGasaway
      @CoryGasaway 3 месяца назад +4

      @@IslandpferdeHaukagil Because that was not her father's wish. And she believes in honoring her father's wishes. For a second in that meeting with Alicent, when she started to believe that maybe Alicent was actually telling the truth about Viserys changing his mind, I think she genuinely began to waiver on her own claim for a bit. You can see it in her face. But then, when Alicent clarified for her the confusion, and she now knows her father does believe that she is the one who is meant to be Queen and to safeguard the secret of the Prince Who Was Promised, as well as her realizing the war can't be stopped anyways, she now understands she has to fight this war and win it. I'm certain, before Rhaneyra dies, after Jace and Joffrey die too, she will tell her Aegon (Aegon III) the story so he has it as he eventually ascends the Throne. Or maybe the secret dies with her.

    • @queenxx1690
      @queenxx1690 3 месяца назад +2

      but they swore to Rhaenyra not Daemon or Jace if she died war would be over not a lot of people like Daemon and this scene made also look like sneaking into KL is very easy.She went to talk with person who have no power anymore Aegon does and he would not stop because his son got killed the only way it could stopped at the moment if Rhaenyra give up nothing else, but Rhaenyra is too greedy for that herself.This scene did nothing but just killed the tension that could be build more between Alicent and Rhaenyra.

    • @CoryGasaway
      @CoryGasaway 3 месяца назад

      @@queenxx1690 Jace is Rhaenyra's heir. If she dies, he succeeds her. Plus, Daemon gives their side weight and leverage. There is no way the war stops if she dies. Not a chance. Jace and Daemon both would continue to fight on. They would be weakened greatly, yes. But there is zero chance they ever bend the knee. They would be put to death. Jace got the backing of The Vale and North. Daemon is building his own following. It definitely would continue.

    • @CoryGasaway
      @CoryGasaway 3 месяца назад +1

      That's kind of point of the scene. Alicent knows there is no stopping her side now. Nothing she can do. And Rhaenyra--along with being validated that she is the rightful monarch--knows that her side cannot be stopped either. The entire Black Council would be happy to follow Jace and Daemon. They want war and action as much as Jace and Daemon both do.

  • @blackeyedlily
    @blackeyedlily 3 месяца назад +1

    I think the only way forward toward a peace might have been through a marriage pact between Joffrey and Jaehara at this point, with some sort of ruling council made up of members of both sides. I always saw the dance between Jacerys and Helaena at that dinner as a reminder of what could have been.

And it is incredible, the composer deserves all the awards that exist, in Game of Thrones it is the only thing that never lowered its level. To this day I think I could tell each scene just from the music. Don't work so hard, the dance of dragons is coming. Ranira in episode 10 of the first season would have renounced the throne, he said that his duty to the kingdom is to maintain peace. Her father was a man of peace, passive perhaps but he did not want war, the previous king was the conciliator who knew that successions bring problems... now Ranira has confirmation that she is the chosen one and she is not going to give up anything because Besides, the terms cannot be those of season one. the beginning of the end.

    On first glance S2 is more fun to watch than S1. But then you start analysing the plot more deeply and find so many things that don't make much sense. This episode is a prime example.
    The scene of Rhaenyra sneeking into KL is the stupidest thing anybody has ever done in this whole show and nothing at all is gained from it.
    First of all: there is no way they would let the dowager queen go completely alone into a building where anybody can walk in at any time without being noticed, right after they were attacked in their own bed chambers
    Second: there is no way that if a guard is standing somewhere far away, that a Sept sitting right next to her and even talking to her doesn't raise suspicion.
    Third: Rhaenyra has to know that at this point, there is no turning back. What was she thinking, Alicent be like: oh yeah, nice talk, we'll give you the throne now?!
    Fourth: Nothing, absolutely nothing, has changed for the overall plot of the show in the end. Cut this scene out - nothing changes. That is bad storytelling. The whole scene was just for fan service, people wanting to see "the two former friends reunite".

      Whatever, but it was one of the most satisfying scenes in this episode. Their reuniting one more time before hell breaks out raises the stakes for the war.

      Rhaenyra may not have told anybody on Dragonstone that she was going, and yes, it is a pointless risk, but then real people often do do dumb things for dumb reasons in history. Winston Churchill nearly got killed by German artillery because he insisted on getting too close to the front line late in WWII. As for the chance of being spotted, it's worth remembering the dialogue from the last episode where the point was made that most people don't know what the nobles really look like anyway. There's no TV, newspapers or even photography, so on the rare occasion that ordinary people see them at all, it's mostly a distant figure in fancy clothes in a context that screams "I'm the king". Dress the same noble in rags and a commoner 10 rows back on his coronation day will walk right past him.

      I disagree with the point that nothing's changed
      Rhaenyra kept dragging her feet not wanting to do war and holding tightly to the chance of preventing it. But now it's finally obvious to her that nothing CAN be done so we can do the dance at last
      She should have realized it earlier but no one's perfect and imo it makes her more real

      @@MrHws5mp I find it very convincing that none of the commoners recognized her, they don't care and most of them have probably never seen her face and never will. But the literal kingsguard! That is on high alert and that has known her since she was born?!

      @@Iamsome61 See, I didn't find it satisfying at all, I found it weird and out of place.
