The fact that you understood Damon's laugh at funeral blew my mind, I didn't see a single reactor to understand that at first sight. Really glad that you understand both side
Yas!!! Ive only seen I think a couple other people catch it but I literally watch dozens so the ratios lol. Unfortunately that is a really big social/emotional cue that mostly everyone misunderstood. I knew it would be too, the moment it happened, it took me out of the viewing experience for a second because I knew the majority of people wouldn't pick up on it. Lol sigh.
Same that really surprised me since basically no one gets that part… except her now. :)
Yep. So frustrating seeing so many people so damn lacking in understanding little (important) social ques. He laughed not only because it was ridiculous how the guy literally used his niece's funeral to throw shade at Rhaenyra, but also to kind of take attention off her. It was so frustrating seeing everyone just thinking he's a psycho or something for laughing at a funeral.
Same. Pisses me off sometimes as to how little attention is being paid while watching
Yessss same here!!!
Sophie, my god. You're the only person out of so many people who've reacted to this show, that always picks up on subtle things and big things, seeing both sides. You're the best🔥
I think this is my favorite episode of the season. The raw violence demonstrated by this children with oneanother, mostly because of the inherited conflicts, was so shocking and interesting to see. Viserys fighting and yelling, using all his strength to convey what he believes be the best path for everyone is so tragic and beautifully acted. Alicent speech... fuck sake it is so great, you can see why she is so resentful, anyone would be, and Rhaenyra seeing right through her, calling it out... jesus that sequence is just perfect.
Waiting eagerly for your next reaction!
It's episodes like these that make me confused in what team i am😂😂😂
@@divinelangene6813 “It was all the choosing sides that made things so bad”, or somewhere along those lines whent Princess Shireen's answer to Stannis asking her which side she'd have been on back in Game of Thrones. 😉
Which is why, although I do have favourites, I'm always reluctant to label myself as team Black or team Green.

"You will have a dragon one day." -Alicent
"He'll have to close an eye." Helaena
What’s crazy is if Jace, Luke and Joff had gotten Rhaenyra’s Valyrian hair color? No one would’ve questioned it because they are literally 3/4 white but the seed is Strong😭
The fact that none from the HOTD cast was nominated for Emmys is unbelievable. Snubbed!
Agreed
Your reactions are fire! Astute, insightful, emotionally on point.
I appreciate that❤
IKR that “where’s duty where’s sacrifice” GETS ME EVERY TIME
Alicent and Rhaenyra as the axis of the series was a great decision by the writers. Seeing everyone’s actions as a lens of their friendship falling out.
True, it's such a change from the book , but it adds so much more emotion
This is the episode where HotD really gets going
Agreed. Ep 7 elevated the show to the next level.
All thanks to Aemond
Yep! From this episode on it just gets exponentially better. The beginning of the show is still great too but damn ❤️
@@DanLanningPRTeam for being a cu nt the level of his mom. But yes. 🤣🤣
Lol it never gets going. Like watching paint dry
Remember his sister saying that he will have to lose an eye, when Alicent reassured him that he would have a dragon one day.😊
yes. Helaena kinda have a vision. poor her :(
you must have missed it sofie, but you said alicent's daughter doesn't just say things for no reason, in last episode after the pig with dragons incident, aemond told alicent he doesnt have a dragon, alicent said one day you'll have one, and the daughter said "but you'll have to close an eye"
"you will gain a dragon Aemond" - Alicent
"He will have to close an eye" - Haelena
Lesson: never underestimate Haelena.
She also predicted something else in this episode.
I honestly loveeeeee the way Emma D'Arcy speaks High Valyrian here. It sounds so exotic and mellifluous!
Vhagar was always destined to be Aemond's. The fact that Aemon was able to claim her at age 10, and even though it was cut out of the show, their bond was already so deep that when Aemond's eye was cut, Vhagar felt the pain and roared loudly.
I feel that this story is about Rhaenyra and Alicent, best friends turn enemies and their dynamic is so intriguing and interesting!!!!!! Both Emma and Olivia nailed their roles ❤❤❤.
I’m forever trying to understand Alicent’s psychology. I feel like there’s a gap between the ethics and mentality of Alicent before and after the time jump that doesn’t quite make sense to me. She’s a bit cuckoo as an adult and I wish I’d seen some traces of that in her youth.
@@bsixtwelve9799 It's not explicitly stated in the show but here's my take: after marrying Viserys, Alicent was left completely alone because she lost Rhaenyra. All she had left was her father, not a good man, but her father nonetheless. Viserys' desire to keep Rhaenyra's "tryst" with Daemon a secret caused him to send Otto away, thus Alicent lost the last person she had. Then she finds out Rhaenyra lied about the situation so she lost her father for nothing. Resentment begins.
Fast forward a couple of years, Alicent is still trapped in a marriage with an old man who's rotting away, taking care of him and producing his heirs. The whole reason she put in this situation in the first place was to produce heirs for Viserys. Viserys refusing to name Aegon his heir means she went through the whole thing for nothing. While she endures this, Rhaenyra births three bastards and passes them off as trueborn heirs, with Viserys' support. This means that while happily making Alicent perform her duties to him, he allows Rhaenyra to shirk her duties to the realm, and in the process of that, makes her children and therefore her whole ordeal meaningless. Resentment grows.
Finally, Aemond's eye is taken out by Lucerys, and rather than do something about it, Viserys takes the opportunity to threaten Alicent and her kids for daring to question the legitimacy of Rhaenyra's sons, while letting Lucerys off the hook completely. This moment confirms to Alicent what her father said to her years before: that when push comes to shove her and her kids will be the ones getting shoved. Resentment reaches breaking point.
omg i just realised I typed a whole essay into your notifs, sorry both - got carried away!

JUST FINISHED WATCHING YOUR review ..After the reaction..everything you said I was like NO one literally no one was this unbiased as you are ...According to me you are on point..about Rhenyra , Alicent , Viserys....couldn't agree more ...🔥....
"We are made of Fire. We were always meant to burn together."🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 😍😍😍😍😍😍
I love how you pick up everything and are not biased. Everyone is good and bad. I LOVE that about you
Really like how much empathy you have for (and how well you understand!) all the characters. 😊
Omg finally someone understood Daemon laughing. It was so annoying when other reactors didn't get it
Vhagar is literally a Godzilla with Wings lol... She is 175 yrs Old at this point and has seen more War than any other Being on this planet lol. More so that she has seen more battle in her 1 wing than all the rest of the Dragons in the Dance combined lol...
Also she has 3 riders before Aemond.
1. Badass Visenya - She used Vhagar to her full potential especially against the Dornish...
2. Baelon the Brave - Viserys and Daemon's Father, he too used her for many battles.
3. Laena Velaryon - Daemon's wife...
4. Now Aemond...
Just know this, Daemon's dragon Caraxes's previous owner is Baelon's Brother Aemon, who is also Rhaenys's Father. So Caraxes and Vhagar are kinda friends and are flying together side by side for literally over half a century lol..
So this will be a huge blowback for Daemon especially, if Vhagar was ever been forced to use against them. As she is literally the Oldest, Largest, Strongest, most Battle Hardened and Powerful Dragon of this time...
Sofie is such a great reactor. She understands all sides and really vocal about it
Aemond didn't steal anything. A dragon is not a slave or property. It does not pass down from father to son.Ceraxes for example was the mount of Rhaenys's father. Vhegar chose Aemond as his rider.
Can’t steal. But flat out shameful to not only claim night of funeral but to then talk shit about it. And insult ALL the kids AND fight them. He should died for that shit. F him and his hypocrite mom.
He stole his chance. She had not yet claimed Vhegar because she had just lost her mother. But good for him, he saw an opportunity and took it, it was a smart move
@@emiliebrooklyn3963 besides, vaghar might've not chosen her
Nice one Sophie: you're picking up so well on the ambiguities and implications which so many other reactors seem to miss.
One point about Viserys 'causing' Aemma's death: when the birth problem happened, saving her wasn't an option. The choice was between letting nature take it's course, in which case both mother and son would almost certainly have died, or going for the ceaserian, which stood a chance of saving the son at least. In that moment then, Viserys didn't 'cause' Aemma's death with his decision: she was doomed either way. On the other hand though, if you look at it in a wider view, you could say that his obsession with getting a son lead to him pressuring his clearly weak wife into having pregnancy after pregnancy, and in that sense, he _did_ cause her death.
Viserys favors Rhaenyra not only because of his love for Aemma but for the sake of Aegon's prophecy, Rhaenyra is prepared for sitting on iron throne as well as for the prophecy. She has to sit the throne at any cost. That's y he favors her a lot, plus he loves her so much
It's actually really amazing how you pick up complex scenes so easily! Even remembering a lot of details from the previous episodes like when you mentioned the "Queer customs" of house Targaryen and Alicent still betrothing her children to one another. 😂
You are a person I would want on my council!. LOL. But you are a very level headed person just genuinely putting that out there.
Keep up the perfect work 🤩
Welcome to one of my favorite episodes! So much went down this ep. Highlights for me: Daemyra in love and finally getting to be together, that epic showdown with everyone (still one of the best scenes of the season in my opinion, everyone nailed it!) Aemond now rides Vhagar, Daemyra proposal and wedding with their kids, Laenor gets to be happy, such good stuff! Glad you caught the little details here and there like Daemon laughing to distract Vaemond from putting all the attention on Rhaenyra and her boys instead of just being insensitive like so many viewers wrongfully interpreted in that scene.
It's funny how everyone is delighted that laennor warn't actually killed, but noone givve a shit about his guards killed in the process
IKR? Like, wouldn't that guy be missed? But it's only one of many flaws in that whole plan. So much could have gone wrong with faking Laenor's death this way, it boggles the mind anyone would come up with such a plan. "There must be witnesses, that's crucial. But those witnesses must also leave the scene, that's also crucial." What if that kid hadn't run off to get the guards? What if they had come back before Laenor and Qarl could put Laenor's clothes on a dead body and stuck it in the fire to burn it to such a crisp that the top half became unrecognizable (i.e. all of this takes a long time)? What if Laenor comes back at some point? Really, really dumb plan.
@@autje1970toe bê honest in any show any character we're not attached to , when they die we don't really care
@@divinelangene6813 It's not that I care (though I'm not Team Green or Team Black, but Team Smallfolk), I think it's just dumb to have such a hole in the plan. We won't miss that guy, but the staff at Driftmark sure would. It would raise suspicions.
@@autje1970 If you're team smallfolk, you are inevitably team green, team black was the smallfolk's worst enemy.
I agree. Emma has the best Valyrian out of all the GOT and HOTD actors/actresses.
I mean have you seen Emilia Clark talking Valyrian!
nah milly and matt had amazing full scenes that felt so natural
@@amirhossein8559Emilia's Valyrian wasn't high Valyrian. It was derived from free cities while the one Targaryens speak in HOTD is true Valyrian or old Valyria.
Aemond and Vhagar served!!! 🤌
20:36 Interesting point you make about Rhaenyra's Valyrian sounding so convincing. The high Valyrian in the show was made to sound more correct and 'pure' to differentiate it from Daenerys' Tyroshi accented version from her time in exile in Essos. Similarly you may have noticed the deliberate use of archaic 'Elizabethan' expressions - "on the morrow" and "mine own daughter" among others - to show that this era predates "Game of Thrones" by over a century. Love your very perceptive reactions.
now THIS episode was my favorite of the season. incredible acting, incredible buildup. Just amazing. You’re so smart and pick up things so easily.
7:00 - it was filmed in the day, but they over-used day for night exposure to make it look dark. Why? Because they panicked at all the continuity errors between shots resulting from the tide coming in and out really fast, so they darkened the screen to try to cover it up....not realizing this only traded one problem for an even worse, much more obvious problem.
I just realized. Alicent was going to let her son [Aegon] suffer the consequences of her own doings...
Also can we talk about how cute little Lucerys is at 19:06 with the tissues in his nose? So precious.
IM WAITING THIS REACTION ALL DAY😭💓✨🔥
What also gave me goosebumps is that in the scene of Aemond's first flight on Vhagar we hear a variant of the theme song played when Dany first rode Drogon. I think it's called Dance with Dragons and it's so beautiful!
So... why so dark... remember "The long Night" (GoT s08e03) director? Yes, Miguel Sapochnik. That's why.
This was my favorite scene of Season 1
OMG, that reaction to the end is awesome. One can really see how bad you wanted to rip two Targaryen throats until you saw Laenor in the boat 😅
Aegon may be a weirdo and a drunk at this point, but for his grandfather to just kick him in the ribs and drag him off... And people wonder how he ended up how he did.
Aemond claiming vhagar was epic
In my opinion one of the biggest mistakes of the blacks was to let Vhagar go to the side of the greens, but the Aemond is also fire and blood equal to Visenya and Baelon and Laena so he made his plan himself and got a powerful weapon in this war.
I mean they didn't nessaserely let him take so much as he just took it behind there backs
well they could do nothing because it is dragon who choose rider not other why around
There's nothing they could do about it except then letting Rhaena go for Vhagar fast but I don't think she was brave enough to go for it yet. Aemond deserved it, I'm pretty sure Vhagar allowed him to mount her is because he reminded her of Visenya.
@@tbakhalid4781 they were still mourning there mom I'm pretty sure when your mom dies your first thought isn't to claim her car as fast as possible so another relative doesn't instead, they had no reason to assume rhena couldn't do it later on after the funeral aemond just took that chance himself because he's selfish, he's nothing like Visenya.
@@thatoneblackdude3333 I'm not talking about the show dear, I'm talking about the books. In the books, Aemond mounted Vhagar in Laenor's funeral not Laena. Rhaena had enough time to mourn and mount Vhagar. I don't blame show Rhaena cause there's no way that would be the first concern of a child who just lost a parent.
Sofie where is the reaction for 8th episode?
I’m glad you didn’t go off about Aemond claiming Vhaegar like most reactors. Everyone I have watched agreed with the black’s that she was to pass to Laena’s daughter when that’s not how dragons work at all. They bond with who they want, and Aemond had the courage to claim Vhaegar. That’s just how it goes.
You might be the only reactor who haven’t immediately jumped to Rhaenyra’s side during the eye situation, but considered both sides and I appreciate that a lot! People often make fun of Alicent for her breakdown there, but her son just got maimed and his own father was more concerned about rumors that are clearly true, not to mention the culprit got away without any punishment. This would make most mothers lose it, I imagine. Also, it is not very clear in the show, but when Rhaenyra requested to have Aemond “sharply questioned”, she was referencing torture. That’s why Alicent said “Over an insult?” right after.
Umm.. I really don't think she was referencing torture. She simply meant that they should question the child seriously about the "vile" rumours.
@@tarukaja8 It is canon in the world of ASoIaF, “sharply question” always means torture. Rhaenyra might have not seriously meant it but it is what she was implying at the end of the day.
@@tarukaja8 in the books people lost their lives over being sharply questioned, i think it’s safe to say it means torture 😭
@@speedracer3805 By Rhaenyra ? And by using the "sharply questioned" sentence specifically ?
Plus.. Rhaenyra wouldn't do that, especially not on kids, and at this stage of the story.
People are so biased towards Rhenyra and Daemon. Like anything they do is acceptable. And for Viserys he was just terrible father. Dude got married again to have male heirs and then did not even pay attention to them.
As much as I loved the Valyrian wedding, Daemon and Rhaenyra's kids have gone through so much shit wihtin like 48 hours. They literally just met their cousin/grand-uncle(?) at a funeral for the girls' mom...and now they're new dad/mom! It's...a bit much. Also the boys think their father just freaking DIED.
aemonds sister says "he''ll have to close an eye" in the last episode, she can predict shit, targaryen dreams
Yes!!! I’ve been waiting for this episode. 😊
when will u upload the 8th episode reaction?😭😭👆🏻👆🏻
You’re one of the only reactors I’ve seen that picked up on why Daemon was really laughing. Just like last episode you were the only person that picked up on the reason why Laenor looked back after leaving Alicent’s chamber. It wasn’t to look at the blood trail. It was to look back at Ser Criston, who killed his love Joffrey.
Aemond OneEye has entered the Ring!
Laenor chose to accept that knowing what his parents would think so that’s on him. It’s tough but corlys still has grandkids with titles he cares about them and titles.
I cannot wait for you to react to episode 8 . Best episode of the season. You always kill it and give insightful reactions .
finally someone who can clearly see both sides and not just team green/red. Each side has a part to play in being wrong but ultimately they are both captive to the political games amd machinations of the "behind the scenes players."
Red😂😂😂😂
they're called team black, not red lmao. read the book and realize how wrong you are. the greens are usurpers and started the war
omg it never clicked til just now that we knew the word for serve from the original series til just now 😵
That romantic music during the wedding really had it's work cut out for it, because I was just screaming internally for Laenor the whole time before we got that reveal.
Aemond is the coolest of them all!!!!
I think it’s important to know that in the book Rhaenys has black and silver hair because she’s part Baratheon. The show, for whatever reason, gave her completely silver hair and that makes Rhaenyra’s kids having black hair much more obvious that they aren’t Laenor’s. Because Rhaenys would be their “grandmother” them having black hair is odd, but not impossible. The show I assume just wanted it to be very obvious that they aren’t Laenor’s children.
The kids were so close to being friends. If it weren’t for the shit show their parents created and in an effort to protect their children and keep up lies it just ends up passing on the same hatred and strife to their children. If that ain’t the realest family drama, way too relatable.
Daemon and Rhaenyra are the ancestors of Daenerys so you know haha.
I love how complex your reactions are, thanks so much for not taking a color side automatically! yes, we're absolutely meant to see arguments for both, it's not black and white and who is 'right' is highly dependent on context, specific incident, and POV
Great analysis!
“Why are they just staring at each other I want a scene between these two”. … well strap in…… 😉

I get Alicent's frustration BUT, Rhaenyra is just as much a CONDUIT as Alicent. 🤷♀Rhaenyra tried to perform her "DUTIES" & conceive with Laenor BUT, HE COULDN'T. 😬I'm not mad at Rhaenyra. She's trying to deal with the "LEMONS" she's been dealt & trying to make "LEMONADE" out of it. 😬She was selfless to let Laenor live his best life while, SHE CONTINUES TO SUFFER in this crazy world she was born into. Alicent is taking her FRUSTRATIONS out on the WRONG PERSON. Alicent needs to be mad at her WICKED FATHER, BITTER SIR CRISTON that are USING HER FOR THEIR OWN SELFISH, BITTER AGENDA'S.

If you notice Daemon likes his women to be more submissive in bed. Once that happens he becomes tender and protective. The moment she said she wanted him (and he’s always wanted to be truly wanted, esp by Rhae & Viserys) Daemon immediately surrendered himself. Once you trust in him, especially Rhae as a lover and protector, he in turn does the same. He loves and protects. At least, that’s been my take on it.
Except for his previous wife, of course. If you don't trust in him (and why would you?), you usually get a rock to the face...
Also, not very loving or nurturing to his bereaved brother who had just lose his wife and newborn son, was he?

The point here is that no one is a saint, and Alicent had two options: serve the crown and we know that to do that you must sacrifice your pleasures or Second, she could give herself to pleasures or live according to her feelings... but she preferred to serve the crown, she is right, she has been correctly carrying out the functions that correspond to her, because that is how things work is order, you cannot expect to have a life of disordered actions and then expect everything to turn out well for you, in my opinion Alicent is a complex character and so far the only one who has served the crown to the best of her ability.

Was Dani hanging on for dear life? lol it's pretty descriptive, but I can't find the book lines about it anywhere.
In the book Rhaenys Laenor's mother has black hair because she is half Baratheon and Targaryen, if Rhaenyra's children have brown hair then that would explain why they have their hair like this, they inherited their grandmother's hair.
Soo... where 8? ☹
3:37 that scene.
Helaena is not saying random stuff. She’s prophetic.
If Rhaenyra's kids were legitimate but didn't have silver hair, the exact same thing would be happening. She'd still have an affair because her husband is gay and everyone that doesn't want her on the throne would claim that her kids are bastards.
22:30
That's dragon glass
Rhaeneys has black hair in books. She is half breatheon. That's why black hair is not a dead giveaway.
Rhaenyra had silver hair in the books. I believe it was her mother who had dark hair and Rhaenys (with streaks of white). I suppose they changed it in the show to make it clearer that the Strong boys were...well, Strong boys

Laenor surviving actually creates a big plot problem for the next season.
Seasmoke his dragon is supposed to be claimed by someone else in the near future and since that bond is for life idk how they’ll handle it.
At first I thought they’d have Laenor come back as that character but that character has been cast by a different actor.
Hopefully they will mention that Laenor died off screen(life of the sellsword is not a safe one). However I fear they can just ignore it, majority of viewers will not even ask a question.
